- Ukraine seeks to export military equipment to Mexico
(Xinhua) 20:21, June 19, 2013
KIEV, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine is seeking to supply tanks and armored vehicles to Mexico, the Ukroboronprom state defense company said on Wednesday.
Ukroboronprom is ready to offer Mexico armored personnel carriers APC-3E1 and APC-4, "Oplot" and "Bulat" tanks, precision-guided weapons, and other products, said Ukroboronprom Director General Sergey Gromov.
As Mexico still uses Soviet-made aviation equipment, Ukroboronprom is ready to take part in renovation and modernization of such machinery, said Gromov.
He also said that Ukraine and Mexico have great potential in technical cooperation in the military filed, particularly in joint production of precision-guided weapons.
According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Ukraine exported arms worth 1.334 billion U.S. dollars last year, making it the world's fourth largest arms supplier.

- Mexican army captures Zetas head
One of Mexico's most wanted drug lords has been captured: Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, also known as "Z-40."
Trevino Morales, leader of the brutal Los Zetas cartel, was caught Sunday by Mexico Marines in his hometown of Nuevo Laredo, just over the U.S. border, CBS News has learned.
The U.S. State Department had offered a $5 million reward for Trevino Morales.
The Zetas cartel is among Mexico's most violent drug organizations, notorious for civilian killings and beheadings. Is leaders ordered the killing of 72 undocumented immigrants in 2010 in what is known as the San Fernando massacre. More recently in May, the Mexican army said their leaders ordered underlings to leave 49 mutilated bodies in a northern Mexico town square
Trevino Morales' brother, Jose, was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison in Texas for using a racetrack to hide illegal drug profits for his brothers.
Las Zetas is one of eight major, rival drug cartels involved in an ongoing conflict for regional control.
Another horse ranch in Oklahoma was raided in June under suspicions it also hosted a money-laundering operation for Miguel Angel Trevino Morales.

- EADS North America to Provide Support and Service to Four CN235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft for Mexican Navy
HERNDON, VA--(Marketwired - Sep 26, 2013) - EADS North America will deliver contractor logistics support and service (CLSS) to four CN235-300 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) for Mexican Navy. The CLSS contract consists of one base year with four one-year options. The contract includes a field service representative to provide on-site technical support, management of parts and depot maintenance.
EADS North America delivered the four Airbus Military CN235-300 MPAs to the Mexican Navy in 2011 and 2012 under a U.S. Coast Guard managed foreign military sales agreement. The CN235-300 MPAs enhance Mexico's ability to support the Mérida Initiative, a cooperative security arrangement between the U.S., Mexico and Central American countries. The aircraft's missions include homeland security, search and rescue, military readiness, cargo and personnel transport, drug interdiction and maritime environmental protection.
"This aircraft is playing a vital role serving American security interests, and we're proud to continue to support this key foreign military sales initiative for the U.S. government," said Sean O'Keefe, EADS North America Chairman and CEO.
The MPA configuration of the CN235-300 incorporates the latest technology developed for surveillance over the sea. The combination of a forward-looking infrared system and search radar allows the aircraft to locate and track ships to conduct thorough patrols of a coastline. The Automatic Identification System and the Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS) help make this aircraft the ideal tool to carry out military surveillance missions for the Mexican Navy. The FITS was developed by Airbus Military and ensures that the extensive data gathered by the aircraft's onboard sensors can easily be used by the crew to execute their mission.
The U.S Coast Guard employs the CN235-300 in the HC-144A Ocean Sentry variant. http://www.marketwired.com

CAE has been awarded a contract for delivery of a T-6C ground-based training system (GBTS) to the Mexican Air Force (FAM). Awarded by Beechcraft, the contract is part of a series of contracts, having a combined value of more than C$110m ($101.8m) to supply a range of training systems and services to multiple defence customers. Under the contract, the company will develop and deliver a comprehensive T-6C GBTS to FAM's Zopapan Air Base near Guadalajara, Mexico. CAE Defence and Security Group president Gene Colabatistto said the company has a skilled and experienced training systems integrator with the proven capability to deliver comprehensive, integrated training solutions.
''We are encouraged by the pipeline of global opportunities we have in front of us in both the traditional defence market as well as adjacencies such as public safety and security," Colabatistto said. Featuring a T-6C operational flight trainer (OFT), computer-based classroom training systems and courseware, the GBTS forms part of an overall training solution Beechcraft is supplying to FAM that includes 12 T-6C+ military trainer aircraft. The T-6C OFT will feature a high-fidelity replica of the T-6C cockpit, with a fully-enclosed 270° by 70° field-of-view display system driven by the CAE Medallion-6000 image generator. Equipped with the CAE-developed common database (CDB), the T-6C OFT will support night-vision goggle (NGV) training, and is designed with the latest technologies to support training that progresses to fourth and fifth generation lead-in trainer and fighter platforms. Delivery is scheduled to take place in 2015. An upgraded variant of the Hawker T-6 military trainer aircraft used by the US Air Force (USAF) and Navy, the T-6C+ is designed to carry external stores and deliver practice weapons for training purposes. The contracts also include a new programme to provide Beechcraft T-44C aircrew training for the US Navy and a foreign military sale (FMS) order for the supply of an MH-60R Seahawk helicopter simulator to the Royal Danish Navy.

- Mexico signs for unmanned Dominators
Aeronautics has signed a contract to supply two Dominator XP unmanned air systems to the armed forces of Mexico.
Based on Diamond Aircraft's twin-engined DA42, the Dominator XP has a flight endurance of 28h and is capable of carrying a 300kg (660lb) payload. The modified aircraft can be flown to an altitude of up to 30,000ft (9,150m) and has a top speed of 190kt (351km/h).
A first export sale of the type was made in mid-2011, shortly after Aeronautics had secured clearance from Israel's defence ministry. One Dominator XP is currently operated by CAE in Alma, Quebec, and is being used to support Project "Miskam", which is aimed at evaluating the use of UAS in civil airspace.
The reported new sale to Mexico follows a recent marketing effort to offer the converted aircraft with a variety of payloads. Aeronautics declines to comment on the matter.
As recently reported by Flightglobal, Aeronautics is currently evaluating the conversion of additional manned aircraft types for unmanned operations. http://www.flightglobal.com

The Mexican armed forces already operate a substantial Airbus fleet. The Mexican Air Force (FAM) operates six C295M transports with another four on order, while the navy operates six C295M, six CN235MP Persuader maritime patrol aircraft, and has another four Persuaders on order.
