Raytheon Awarded Radar Contract for P-8I Maritime Surveillance Aircraft
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 18, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has received a contract from Boeing to develop an international version of the APY-10 surveillance radar.
The long-range, multimission, maritime and overland surveillance radars will be installed on the P-8I aircraft Boeing is building for the Indian Navy. This is the first international contract award for Raytheon's APY-10 program, extending the company's considerable presence in the international maritime surveillance market.

The APY-10 radar delivers accurate and actionable information in all weather, day and night, for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare and for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission support.
A member of the industry team that Boeing leads for the U.S. Navy's P-8A program, Raytheon is also under contract with Boeing to provide six APY-10 systems and spares for the P-8A, of which the P-8I is a variant. Four of the six have been delivered, and Raytheon remains on or ahead of the production schedule.

Although the larger A400M 'Grizzly' has grabbed most of the headlines this week, another of Airbus Military's products - the C-295 anti-submarine warfare aircraft - has also attracted significant interest during its UK show debut.
"We are receiving plenty of visits by delegations, and already have some potential customers," says Jeronimo Amador, the company's marketing director for light and medium transports.
"It's a tremendous opportunity being here as an integrated Airbus, along with the A380 and the A400M," he adds.
The aircraft on show is the first of two C-295s to have been adapted to the ASW role for the Chilean navy. The remaining example is about to leave the final assembly line at Airbus Military's San Pablo site near Seville.
Changes made from the baseline C-295 transport design include the installation of the company's fully integrated tactical system mission suite, or FITS, configured with four onboard operator stations, sonobuoy dispenser equipment and a magnetic anomaly detector boom.
Chile's configuration also includes a FLIR Systems electro-optical/infrared camera, a datalink and a torpedo launch function.
Chile also received one C-295 maritime patrol aircraft in March, and is "starting to see the advantages of this aircraft, in terms of its availability rates and cost-effectiveness," Amador says.
Airbus Military has now received orders for more than 80 C-295s and special mission derivatives, and delivered around 60. Finland also recently contracted Lockheed Martin to adapt one of its transports for signals intelligence applications.

Telephonics to supply the Mexican Navy with its APS-143C(V)3 radar for the CN-235 aircraft

The Boeing P-8A programme has received approval to begin ramping up production shortly before the anti-submarine warfare aircraft enters the last two years of development and flight test.
The Defense Acquisition Board (DAB), which oversees all major acquisitions, verbally approved the P-8A to enter the first year of low rate initial production (LRIP), according to Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). "We expect the official written memo to be signed by [the office of secretary of defense] within three to four weeks," NAVAIR says.
The memo will clarify how many aircraft will be built during the LRIP phase, NAVAIR adds.
Clearing the LRIP approval hurdle marks the third of four major milestones for any US military acquisition. The next step for the P-8A will be entering full-rate production.
NAVAIR plans to buy a total of 117 P-8A Poseidons through Fiscal 2018 as one-half of the plan to replace about 225 Lockheed Martin P-3C Orions. The navy also plans to buy the Northrop Grumman RQ-4N broad area maritime surveillance (BAMS), an unmanned system that will serve as an adjunct to the P-8A.
The P-8A is a military version of Boeing's 737-800 airliner. Changes include the wings from the -900ER model and the addition of a weapons bay as well as sensors and launchers for sonobuoys.
Boeing has delivered the first two flight test prototypes for the P-8A programme to NAS Patuxent River in Maryland. The third flight test aircraft will arrive "shortly". Meanwhile, the fourth flight test aircraft is "moving through the factory" in Renton, Washington, Boeing says.

P-3 simulator connects virtually with SH-60 trainer
For the first time, a P-3 Orion simulator connected virtually to an SH-60B Seahawk trainer during a “peer to peer connectivity” trial July 1 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), Kaneohe Bay.
Using its own simulation mode, the P-3’s Tactical Operational Readiness Trainer, also known as TORT, successfully linked with an SH-60B Tactical Operational Flight Trainer, or TOFT, in a synthetic environment. Referred to as “peer-to-peer connectivity,” this virtual linkage eliminates the need for a third party to facilitate the connection or act as a conduit.
“This landmark event comes at a time when technological innovations are advancing aviation training and readiness,” said Capt. John Feeney, Naval Aviation Training Systems (PMA-205), program manager. “Now that they have established an initial connection, these platforms can build the relationship into daily training requirements.”
During test and evaluation, P-3 aircrews communicated via the TORT with SH-60B aviators operating their TOFT. Through the TORT, the P-3 crew observed the SH-60B pilots maneuver the helicopter, as well as deploy buoys and launch multiple missiles in the synthetic environment. The P-3 operators were also able to check acoustic and radar signals during the training session, Feeney added.
“Both the P-3 and the SH-60B aircraft are designed for maritime patrol and reconnaissance missions, specifically anti-submarine warfare (ASW),” said Lt. Richard Holt, Commander Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing 2, Weapon Tactics Unit, training facilities officer in charge. “Since the two platforms continuously work together when deployed, it was only logical to integrate them now for coordinated ASW synthetic training.”
Several PMA-205 program office members were on hand to assist in the preparation leading up to the event. PMA-205 is responsible for the development and life-cycle management of both simulators, as well as the creation of the synthetic environment in which the trainers participated.
Since both platforms have squadrons at MCBH, Kaneohe Bay, aviators can walk across the hangar to discuss, plan and execute virtual missions at their home base with their actual on-station counterparts stated Holt.
“Continuous interoperable training events allow crews to exercise the capabilities and understand the limitations of the fellow platform, resulting in a more synchronized ASW force,” said Lt. Holt.
Within the next six months, the TORT and TOFT will participate in a simulated training event with a single Navy ship. Once both systems have successfully completed training with one ship, they will participate in a full-scale Fleet Synthetic Training (FST) event involving multiple ships, submarines and aircraft FST events provide real world mission rehearsal in a synthetic environment.
A new contender for the lucrative maritime patrol and border surveillance aircraft market is shining at the show, with its Austrian manufacturer anticipating strong local demand.
Diamond Airborne Sensing has flown an enhanced version of its DA42 MPP Guardian to Dubai in a military-inspired grey colour scheme, after recently integrating key new equipment. It now has a Telephonics RDR-1700B maritime search radar and a Scotty satellite communications suite installed, in addition to an electro-optical/infrared sensor mounted beneath its nose.
"These were the only parts that were missing," said Markus Fischer, the company's marketing and sales director. "With this capability we can do the same as the big, fixed-wing aircraft, but on a totally different budget."
Diamond quotes a per-hour operating cost of just €120 ($167) to use its Austro AE300-engined DA42, which offers a mission endurance of up to 12h. For the maritime patrol application, its two-person crew would typically be expected to stay airborne for 6-8h.
The company views this combination of affordability and mission performance as a key selling point for the Guardian. "We expect many orders in the future in this region," said Fischer. To support its promotion of the aircraft, Diamond is conducting a demonstration at 1pm each day in its chalet (A6), showing live footage relayed via satellite from an aircraft in flight in Austria.
Diamond has meanwhile launched programmes to find 65kg (143lb) in weight savings from the DA42's structure and to also increase its maximum take-off weight to just under 2 tonnes.

si systeme ajoutable roll/on roll off comme Harvest Hawk et Tanker oui ca sera un plus,mais si seulement plateforme faite entierement pour,ca sera pas interessant.

En tous cas, c’est ce que semble penser les responsables de l’avionneur européen, depuis qu’ils se sont lancés dans deux programmes ambitieux, ayant pour buts de contrecarrer la domination quasi hégémonique des USA sur ce domaine.
Le premier, et pas des moindre, le Casa C-295MPA consiste à transformer l’avion de transport tactique conçu en Espagne en patrouilleur maritime et océanique capable non seulement de surveiller les eaux mais aussi le cas échéant de porter l’estocade à des embarcations légères, voire de s’attaquer carrément à des submersibles. C’est dans ce sens qu’en avril 2010 le prototype de l’avion a tiré sa première torpille, validant ainsi sa capacité offensive. Fort de ce succès, et d’une habile campagne de communication l’avion est d’ores et déjà en production, avec notamment un premier contrat en provenance du Chili pour la fourniture de trois appareils destinés à remplacer, à l’horizon 2014/2015, les plus anciens des Lockheed P-3A Orion qui volent dans ce pays.

Alors sans quasiment de concurrents fiables, l’ATR-42MP de Finmecanicca est au point mort avec des commandes de service publique mais rien de réellement offensif et les possibilités de transformation des biturbopropulseurs Antonov semblant bel et bien abandonnées, on ne peut que se réjouir pour l’avenir de celui qu’Airbus Military a baptisé Persuader. Avec le renforcement des règles environnementales dans le monde entier, et une crainte désormais quotidienne pour les pollutions côtières et hauturières, les avions de patrouille et de surveillance maritime ont de beaux jours devant eux. D’autant que tous le monde n’a pas les moyens de se doter de jets d’affaires transformés pour cela, comme la France par exemple. dans cette optique les avions à turbopropulsion semblent les plus en vue.
Dans un tout autre registre les ingénieurs et designers d’EADS ont bien compris que les actuelles machines de patrouille maritime comme la famille du Br.1150 Atlantic , ou le British Aerospace Nimrod vivent actuellement leur dernière décennie opérationnelle, ces avions datant de cellule remontant aux années de la Guerre Froide. Et ils savent que des pays comme l’Allemagne, l’Espagne, la France, l’Italie, ou encore le Royaume-Uni rechercheront des machines plus complexes et plus polyvalentes (et donc plus onéreuses) que le C295MPA ou l’ATR-42MP. Il fallait donc réfléchir à une nouvelle plateforme de ce genre, répondant aux attentes du moment.

Cela semble être désormais chose faite avec le programme A319MPA qui consiste en la transformation d’un biréacteur de ligne monocouloir en véritable patrouilleur des océans, capables de réaliser les mêmes missions que ses prédécesseurs mais en usant des dernières technologies tant en matière de guerre électronique que de respect de l’environnement, et donc en usant de réacteurs franco-américains CFM International. Toutefois à la différence de ses « ancêtres » il n’emportera aucun armement en soute, les torpilles, charge de profondeurs, et missiles antinavires prendront place sous voilure accrochés à des pylônes d’emport. Si l’A319MPA n’existe encore que sur la planche à dessins, pardon dans l’ordinateur, de ses designers il faut voir qu’EADS table très sérieusement sur une mise en service opérationnelle des premiers appareils d’ici 2020. En fait l’avion européen sera la réponse d’EADS au P-8 Poseidon américain acquis par l’US Navy et l’Inde… et qui vole déjà.

S’appuyant sur les vingt ans de succès de Casa dans le domaine de la patrouille maritime, la branche défense d’Airbus Industries semble bel et bien se tourner vers une diversification de ses activités, après avoir essayé de toucher aux missions de guerre électronique mais sans y réussir, et après avoir fait une entrée fracassante dans le domaine du ravitaillement en vol, véritable pré carré des Américains, elle se tourne désormais e du futur Airbus Military A319MPAvers des missions plus offensives. Définitivement l’avionneur européen est le poil à gratter dans le cou de Boeing.

Les deux nouveaux Falcon de la marine transformés chez Dassault

L'usine de Dassault Aviation à Mérignac travaille actuellement sur l'adaptation de deux Falcon 50 aux besoins de surveillance maritime de l'aéronautique navale. Ces appareils, qui étaient auparavant affectés à l'ETEC (Escadron de transport, d'entraînement et de calibration) sont cédés à la Marine nationale du fait de leur remplacement au sein de l'armée de l'Air par de nouveaux Falcon 2000. Ils s'ajouteront aux quatre Falcon 50M déjà en service au sein de la flottille 24F et permettront de renforcer les capacités de surveillance maritime de la marine, qui avaient été amputées en mars 2009 par le retrait du service de dix Nord 262 de la 28F.
Pour compenser ce retrait et en attendant le lancement du futur programme AVSIMAR (Avions de surveillance et d'intervention maritime), il avait alors été décidé de profiter du remplacement des Falcon « gouvernementaux », servant notamment au transport des hautes personnalités de l'Etat, pour verser à la marine ces appareils, disposant encore d'un bon potentiel. Le transfert nécessite toutefois un important chantier de structure. Il faut, ainsi, équiper les avions d'une boule FLIR rétractable en position ventrale. Ce système de détection électro-optique est installé au niveau de la soute à bagages. Dans le même temps, le radar classique situé à l'avant est remplacé par un Ocean Master 100, optimisé pour le milieu maritime. L'opération demeure complexe car il faut, notamment, installer les équipements en tenant compte du re-routage de certains circuits.
Les équipes de Mérignac ont également débuté le second chantier, qui porte sur la modification de la carlingue afin d'installer deux grands hublots pour l'observation. A l'issue de ces travaux, des différents essais au sol et des essais de réglage et de réception en vol, Dassault Aviation espère livrer à la marine le premier des deux Falcon en cours de transformation au printemps 2013. Au total, quatre Falcon de l'ETEC doivent, ainsi, être transformés en avions de surveillance maritime, ce qui permettra de doubler le parc de la 24F.
