Aug 12, 2016169

The success of a modern combat depends on skills of each particular member of a unit. Thus, the soldiers of Belarus Air and Air Defense Force hold permanent pieces of training and drills.

Air defense units of Belarus Air and Air Defense Force undergo operational coordination at a military range. The exercises are held with the participation of «Buk» and «Tor-M2K» short-range surface-to-air missile systems.

«Tor-M2K»- antiaircraft missile system with fighting machine on a wheeled chassis. Chassis developed by the Belarusian enterprise «MZKT». In the composition includes the fighting machine 9А331МК and antiaircraft missile module 9М334 with four anti-aircraft guided missiles 9М9331.

The Air Force and Air Defence (AFAD) is a service of the Belarusian Armed Forces, designed to defend critical facilities and military forces from air attacks, destroy enemy military-industrial installations and troops and support the Belarusian Army.

Belarus receives first 59N6E early warning radar
Nicholas de Larrinaga, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
17 August 2016
Belarus has begun operating a 59N6E Protivnik-GE early warning surveillance radar, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 16 August.

"[The new radar] will significantly increase the combat capabilities of the radio engineering troops," said the MoD in a statement. "It will be possible to detect and track ballistic targets, increase the range of detection of air targets, increase mobility … [and] through the use of modern technology reduce the cost of operating the radar."

The mobile 59N6E Protivnik-GE, in Russian service since 1999, is built and designed by Russia's Nizhniy Novogrod Research Institute of Radio Engineering (NNIIRT).

The solid-state electronically scanned array L-band radar has a maximum range of around 400 km and is designed to track ballistic missiles, aircraft, cruise missiles, and other small (1.5 m²) air breathing threats (even if travelling at low speed).

BTR-70MB1

The Belarus Armed Forces will receive the first upgraded BTR-70MB1 wheeled armoured personnel carriers on January 2017.

That was reported by 42.tut.by.

A first batch of upgraded BTR-70MB1 wheeled armoured personnel carriers is set to be delivered to the Belarus Ministry of Defence by the early in the year.

The BTR-70MB1 is an upgraded variant of the Soviet BTR-70, developed by OAO 140th Repair Plant. The BTR-70MB1 upgrade programme was launched due to the company’s own funds.

The upgrade package is essentially repowering of the vehicles with up-to-date diesel engines (8-cylinder diesel engine KAMAZ-7403.10 turbocharged 260 hp) and corresponding adaptation of transmission elements and auxiliary systems. The BTR-70MB1 weighed nearly 13 tons (basic version 11,5 tons).

The BTR-70MB1 wheeled amphibious armored personnel carriers are designated to transport infantry units providing them with direct fire support and fire-from-the-vehicle capability.

with Belarusian armed forces. Source: Nikolai Novichkov

The Kaiman (Cayman) armoured reconnaissance vehicle has entered service with Belarusian armed forces, a source in the company told Jane's at the MILEX 2017 defence show, held in Minsk from 20-22 May.

"The Kaiman is a new vehicle. It has successfully passed state trials and the military has brought it into service," the source said.

Developed by the Belarusian 140 Repair Plant, the Kaiman is a light 4x4 armoured reconnaissance vehicle fitted with independent torsion bar suspension and two waterjets for amphibious operation. The vehicle can accommodate a crew of six and features a fully loaded weight of up to 7,000 kg.

The Kaiman's monocoque hull has a length of 6 m, a width of 2.82 m, a height of 2.07 m, and a ground clearance of 490 mm when fully loaded. The hull has two side doors and three roof hatches. The front of the vehicle protects against 7.62 mm bullets fired from a Dragunov SVD sniper rifle (Level 2 STANAG 4569), while the sides ensure protection against 5.45 mm and 7.62 mm bullets fired from Kalashnikov AK-74 and AKM assault rifles (Level 1 STANAG 4569). The armour is reinforced with detachable spall liner.

The Kaiman is powered by a D-245.30E2 engine coupled to a mechanical transmission and a five-speed gearbox. It has a road speed of up to 110 km/h, a swimming speed of up to 8 km/h and a cruising range of 1,000 km. The vehicle is also fitted with a centralised tire inflation system.

The basic variant of the Kaiman features a pintle mount for a weapon along with an armoured shield that provides the gunner with all-round protection against splinters and small-calibre bullets. The vehicle can be armed with a 7.62 mm Kalashnikov PKMB medium machine gun (MG) (with an ammunition load of 2,000 cartridges), a 12.7 mm NSV Utyos heavy MG (with an ammunition load of 300 cartridges), or a 30 mm AGS-17 Plamya automatic grenade launcher (with an ammunition load of 174 cartridges).

Belarus to develop new long-range MRL

Nikolai Novichkov, Minsk - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly

24 May 2017

to fire the 750 mm M20 guided missile (shown in the foreground). Source: N Novichkov

The Belarusian defence industry is developing a multiple rocket launcher (MRL) with a range of up to 300 km, an official spokesperson for the State Military Industry Committee (GKVP) told Jane's at MILEX 2017, which took place in Minsk from 20-22 May.

"In accordance with an order by GKVP, the Precision Electro-Mechanics Plant [ZTEM] has started the development of an MRL with a firing range of up to 300 km within the framework of the established co-operation. The localisation of its manufacturing is supposed to reach 85%," the spokesperson said. He added that the first live-firing trials of the new system are scheduled for October.

The official pointed out that deliveries to the Belarusian armed forces of the B-200 Polonez MRL, which has a 200 km range, had been among the pivotal achievements of the country's defence industry in 2016. The system was produced in Belarus with assistance from China and is based on the Chinese A200 MRL.

The upgraded 300-km-range variant will be designated the B-300. Offered for export by state-owned foreign trading enterprise Belspetsvneshtekhnika, the system might also be tested and certified for the Belarusian military.

The Polonez system, which was unveiled at MILEX 2017, incorporates the B-200BM combat vehicle, the B-200TZM transporter-loader vehicle, and the B-200BMU mobile command-and-control (C2) post vehicle. The system is designed to engage mechanised units, infrastructure, signal hubs and other weapon systems. The B-200 has a firing range of 50-200 km and a combat readiness time of 10 minutes. A division of Polonez MRLs has an ammunition load of 144 rockets.

The B-200BM combat vehicle is armed with eight ready-to-launch 301 mm missiles in two containerised pods. The missiles are mounted on an MZKT-7930-300 8x8 heavy truck produced by Minsk Wheeled Tractor, which has a fully laden weight of about 46 tonnes, a crew of three and a maximum road speed of 70 km/h.
