U.S. Service members arrive in Morocco for African Lion

AGADIR, Morocco- Approximately 650 U.S. military personnel have arrived in various regions of the Kingdom of Morocco to take part in Exercise AFRICAN LION 2009. This is an annually-scheduled, combined U.S.-Moroccan exercise designed to improve interoperability and mutual understanding of each nation’s tactics, techniques and procedures.

AFRICAN LION, a U.S. Africa Command-sponsored exercise, will include various types of military training including command post, live-fire training, peacekeeping operations, aerial refueling / low level flight training as well as a medical, dental, and veterinarian assistance projects to run concurrent with the training.

Marines from 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division will conduct a command post exercise, and various service members from the 23rd Marine Regiment will conduct bi-lateral training at the unit level, weapons qualification training and peacekeeping operations training with units from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces. Marines and aircraft from the Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 234, Marine Aircraft Group 41, will conduct aerial refueling and low-level flight training with their counterparts in the Royal Moroccan Air Force.

Concurrent with the exercise, U.S. military professionals from the Utah Army National Guard and the 4th Medical Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group, will provide medical, dental and veterinarian humanitarian assistance to local residents in and around the community of Taroudant.

The exercise is scheduled to end on or about June 4, 2009. All U.S. forces will return to their home bases in the United States and Germany at the conclusion of the exercise. The last AFRICA LION exercise occurred in May 2008 and involved about 1,000 Moroccan and U.S. military personnel.

Juba, I have a pair of the Far boots, and my feet are not complaining as far as I know (and I have soft girlish feet...) . Concerning the digital camo , it seems to be more a trend than a real revolution in camo...

Héhé, sa se voit qu'il n'y encore que Ezrouata à casa....
En fait le mec se fait tirer dessus avec un Tazer, pistolet qui lâche une décharge électrique, les autres se marrent parcke la cible est en train d'hurler comme pas possible....

Sinon y a une photo précédente où on voit un ricain et un rocain remonter un fusil (je crois que c'est des FN-FAL), il semblerait que ce soit le soldat marocain qui soit en avance d'où le rictus de ces confréres....en tout cas le soldat US a pas l'air content.

C'est un exercice qui n'existe pas chez nous (donc c'est marrant de voir un type se faire electrocuter pour eux.. ), tout comme l'exercice de la chambre a gaz (lacrymogene) americain.

Pour ce qu'il remonte, c'est une M 249 (a la crosse et au chargement), pas un minimi dont elle est issue.

La M249 c est version americaine du MAG

C'est plutôt la version américaine du FN Minimi, la version US de la MAG est la M240.

TIFNIT, Morocco — About 36 military policemen from Military Police Company, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division, participated in non-lethal weapons training and weapons familiarization fires May 5-6 with about 30 members of the Moroccan 8th, 10th and 11th Battalion Brigade Infantry Mobile of the Royal Moroccan Army here as part of Exercise AFRICAN LION 2009, which began April 28 and is scheduled to conclude June 4.

The non-lethal weapons training and weapons familiarization fires are a part of the peacekeeping operations training package that is being conducted during AFRICAN LION. The training package also includes mounted and dismounted patrols, vehicle and personnel searches, establishing control points, and hand-to-hand combat training, which is scheduled later in the week.

“We are building better relations with the Moroccan forces,” said Staff Sgt. Daniel P. Botty, 1st platoon commander, MP Detachment, MP Company, HQBN, 4th MarDiv. “We are learning how to work with a foreign country. If we were ever ordered to a peacekeeping mission somewhere (worldwide), we need to know how to join forces and work together.”

The peacekeeping operations training between U.S. forces and the Moroccan military is an excellent opportunity for the MP Marines to train and work with foreign militaries, according to Botty. The exercise provides the U.S. an opportunity to share tactics, techniques, and procedures and, in turn, promotes interoperability between U.S. and Moroccan forces.

“It’s good to know that we can go into another country and trust the gun on our left and our right because we’ve worked with them before,” said Botty, a native of Cammeron, Wis. “We did our riot control training with them last year and they worked just as hard as we did. So we know if we had to go into a mob situation (with them), we’d be able to trust those in our right flanks or our left flanks.”

During the non-lethal weapons training, U.S. and Moroccan forces experienced a TASER (Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle) orientation and demonstration. Afterward, these service members were given the opportunity to feel a 5-second blast of about 50,000 volts—some for the first time—from the TASER probe that was manually attached to their boot.

On the next day, all service members were given the opportunity to shoot the Moroccans’ AK-47 service rifle, and the Marine Corps’ M240G machine gun and the M2 .50 caliber machine gun. The U.S. and Moroccan forces fired more than 5,200 rounds of ammunition by the end of the day.

Botty, on his second consecutive AFRICA LION, has not only noticed a progression in the interoperability between the two nations but he has also noted an increase in camaraderie.

“This year, the Moroccans were much more willing to do the TASER with the Marines,” said Botty. Last year, the U.S. and Moroccan experienced the TASER separately.

“This year, it was the Moroccans intertwined with the Marines…we’ve had some camaraderie so far this year,” said Botty. “Some people were coming up to each other and saying, you and I; we’ll do it (TASER) together.”

Along with the difficulties of operating in a combined U.S.-Moroccan exercise is the differences in culture and language. However, these Marines have found the right ingredients to create a partner in peace.

“The best way to break the barriers is to make friends. Interact with them. Find out which ones can help you,” said Cpl. Anthony S. Kiehl, an MP with MP Company, HQBN, 4th MarDiv. “Some of them speak a little English…some of us speak a little Arabic and French. You make friends, and by making friends you get comfortable.”

Although, Kiehl admitted it wasn’t easy at first. “When we first got here they were kind of quiet, kind of distant, but as soon as we did our first drill together, they realized we’re the same people they are, just different countries,” said Kiehl.

Kiehl has learned that the Moroccans are not much different than the Americans.

“You don’t have to fear the other just because of who they are, who they look like, what they speak,” said Kiehl. “The best way (to make friends) is to get in with them and interact.”

Attention, les " spectra " français sont qd même meilleur que le modele US qui couvre moins bien la nuque...

LES AMERICAINS d'ailleurs songent à son remplacement...

EN CE QUI ME CONCERNE, je trouve que c'est une bonne chose d'avoir choisi ce modele...

PAR AILLEURS , la couleur du couvre chef n'est pas importante...CES HOMMES APPARTIENNENT au 6 è RIM
cette unité de 3000 H COMBAT EN MOUVEMENT sur des engins motorisés et mécanisés...ALORS, on s'en fou du couvre chef camouflé ou pas...
LES TREILLIS bariolés c'est plus un effet de mode qu'autre chose !!

Là c'est que pour le fun...Et côté frime..les us sont imbattables...

MOI, je note le physique de l'infanterie marocaine....et j'ai vu pire...

notez le visage endurci du caporal chef qui approvisionne la 50 avec l'americain,( notez à l'occasion: une traçante tout les 5 COUPS )
Moi ça me vas bien tout ça, sauf l'autre kimbo qui porte son casque à l'envers..mais là encore, il doit y avoir une raison...SI LE CASQUE EST TROP GRAND , peut être qd le mettant à l'envers, il tient mieux ( le gallet n'est pas rond mais oval pour ceux qui l'ont déjà porté )

pareil pour la casquette dessous..le gallet vient sur la nuque et s'il il est trop grand..ça fait un peut mal...

APPROVISIONNER 3000 casques DANS UNE UNITE de cette taille, c'est sûr que certains vont souffrir de taille...


Je suis déçu de revoir des nouvelles kalash roumaines ( poignée de garde sous canon )

j'aurai bien aimer ou revoir les FAL EN 5,56 version FN FNC ou berretta AR 70 ou OU

mais pas de KALASH !!!! même si c'est l'arme la plus rustique du moment et donc la plus fiable...

a ce propo......pas de bandoulieres..sur les armes... ,,,????? pour éviter d'accrocher en ejection de vehicules ?

SUR LE FORUM MILIATIRE ALGERIEN, ils commentent et argumentent pour equiper les FA de visées additionnelles etc etc

Les chocs dans les VAB, la manipulation de l'arme en condition operationnlle..va pas faire long feu ta visée additionnelle..

Le fantassin marocain a l'air d'avoir le srtict necessaire qu'il faut pour combattre en zone desertique...MËME LE CASQUE n'est pas pertinent à cause de la chaleur et de son poids..
C'est comme un kevlar....INSUPOTABLE PAR DES TEMPERATURES SUP à 40/45°

oui mais l'ancien : 1 casque lourd + 1 LEGER

avec le lourd , tu peux porter l'eau, faire ta toilette, faire ta cuisinne et faire ton trou individuel avec....

Mais bon, c'est une autre époque...

Ça me rappelle aussi des souvenirs, Atlas, une autre époque comme tu le dis.
