| c'est un peu trop cher ca | Citation: | Denmark – MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopters WASHINGTON, November 30, 2010 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress November 29 of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Denmark of 12 MH-60R SEAHAWK Multi-Mission Helicopters and associated parts, equipment and logistical support for an estimated cost of $2.0 billion. The Government of Denmark has requested a possible sale of 12 MH-60R SEAHAWK Multi-Mission Helicopters, 27 T-700 GE 401C Engines (24 installed and 3 spares), communication equipment, support equipment, spare and repair parts, tools and test equipment, technical data and publications, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $2.0 billion. This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO ally which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political and economic stability in Europe. The proposed sale of the MH-60R SEAHAWK helicopters will improve Denmark's anti-submarine and surface warfare capability and provide an improved search and rescue and anti-ship surveillance capability and to carry out international commitments for transport, surveillance, and search and rescue operations with the United States and other allies. . Denmark will also use these aircraft to strengthen its homeland defense and protect critical infrastructure. Denmark, which currently operates Augusta Westland Lynx helicopters, will have no difficulty absorbing these additional helicopters into its armed forces. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractors will be Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation in Stratford, Connecticut, Lockheed Martin in Owego, New York, General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts, and the Raytheon Corporation in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale. Implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of ten contractor representatives to Denmark on an intermittent basis over the life of the case to support delivery of the MH-60R helicopters and provide support and equipment familiarization. There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

| | Citation: | Danish Air Force takes control of navy Lynx fleet
January 11, 2011 Control of the Danish Navy's Helicopter Service has been transferred from the navy to the Danish Air Force. The Danish government's Defence Settlement 2010-2014 decided that from 3 January all helicopters under the charge of the Danish Ministry of Defence would be handed to the air force. This means that the eight Lynx helicopters previously used by the Navy Helicopter Corps (Søværnets Helicopter Tjeneste) have now formed a new air force unit, Esk 723. Esk 723 will be based at Karup, the main operating base of the Danish helicopter squadrons, including Esk 722, which flies the EH101 Merlin, and Esk 724, which flies the Fennec. A Danish officer said that apart from the handover to the air force, little would change. The Lynx will still be embarked on ships and the crews will continue to serve alongside the navy ships in waters as diverse as those off Greenland to the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden where the Danish Navy contributes to NATO’s Operation Ocean Shield anti-piracy actions. Esk 723 is also likely to be the operating unit for the Lynx replacement when it is announced later this year. In December 2010 Rotorhub.com reported that Denmark was considering the MH-60R Seahawk to meet the needs of its Maritime Helicopter Programme (MHP). Other types being considered include the AW159 Wildcat, the NH90, the H-92 Cyclone and the AW101. By Tony Osborne, London |

| | Citation: | Exercise “Winter Hide”: Italian 4° Stormo Eurofighter jets hosted the Royal Danish Air Force
Eurofighter Typhoon jets from the 4° Stormo in Grosseto, Italy hosted 11 F-16 jets from the Royal Danish Air Force Base in Skrydstrup in a joint exercise at Grosseto, home of the Italian Typhoons.

The joint exercise known as “Winter Hide 2011” saw the Royal Danish Air Force emerge out of hibernation with a team of eight operational fighters, three reserve planes, maintenance equipment, aircraft engineers, technicians of all kinds, pilots and forward air controllers, totalling some 100 people, to spend four weeks in Italy to enjoy better weather and exchange knowledge and experiences with their Italian colleagues.
The Danish F-16s operated in three slot missions a day to train in close air support (CAS) and air-to-air scenarios. With exercises taking place both day and night, the aircraft involved totalled in excess of 600 flying hours. In addition, the US Air Force F-15E jets of 494 FS deployed to Decimomannu, in Sardinia also joined the exercise.
The Royal Danish Air Force benefited from the stable weather conditions of Tuscany as well as from Grosseto’s location close to the sea and mountains, which provided the opportunity to train CAS and dogfight scenarios with the Italian Typhoons in different environments.
Major Hans Peter Bagger, Danish Air Force leader of the first of two operational detachments pointed out: “We all need to maintain our capabilities to constantly meet the demands NATO asks of us. Training in Italy allows us to do just that, and by replacing almost all people mid-term, the valuable training is distributed across as many people as possible.
Colonel Michele Morelli, commander of 4° Stormo, said: “this exercise has been a fantastic chance to check and consolidate the standard operational procedures that we have adopted for years in the NATO fighter environment, but also very useful to validate the Eurofighter operational tactics”.
For the Danish Air Force and for Italian Aeronautica Militare, the exercise is also valuable for technicians and for the mission planners who are able to exchange experiences and procedures.
The Danes were excited about the opportunity to fly against the Eurofighter Typhoon, which they acknowledge has superior performance and engine power when compared to their updated F-16.

| | Citation: | Danish F-16s readied to enforce a Libyan no-fly zone March 16, 2011 (by Lieven Dewitte) - The RDAF is preparing four F-16 fighter jets to take part in an internationally-backed no-fly zone over Libya, should Nato high command decide to act.
Danish Foreign minister Lene Espersen promised four F-16s and 90 crew for the Libyan no-fly zone.
The government is trying to build support in parliament and internationally for a United Nations-backed no-fly zone over Libya to block Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi from making further advances against rebel forces and attacking Libyan civilians.
In Cairo, the Arab League asked the U.N. Security Council to impose a no-fly zone to protect the rebels, increasing pressure on the U.S. and other Western powers to take action that most have expressed deep reservations about.
"The Arab world has made it very clear that the U.N. Security Council must make the decision. That's why we all need to work right now to ensure that the Council has the backing it needs to make that decision," Espersen said.
It appears to be critical that the Council reaches a decision before Qaddafi succeeds in crushing rebels in Benghazi and Tobruk in Libya's east.
The UN Security Council was scheduled to meet again on Wednesday morning to discuss the feasibility of a no-fly zone.
U.S. officials say the number of planes and bases needed for a no-fly zone would depend on its scope. If a no-fly zone is imposed, the U.S. and its allies would, as a likely first step, destroy at least some of Libya's air defenses, composed mainly of Russian-built SA-6 surface-to-air missile sites, and radar installations.
Military officials said the missiles can be potent weapons when used against conventional aircraft, including F-15 and F-16 jets. But the officials said the SA-6s, which are effective to about 35,000 to 40,000 feet, would be little threat to the stealth F-22, which can fly faster and at a higher altitude to evade Libyan systems.
"You could put a squadron of F-22s in southern Italy and it could operate inside Gadhafi's airspace with impunity," said a former top Pentagon official who has planned similar operations in the past. |

| | Citation: | APAR multifunction radar passes F.A.T. with flying colours
The first APAR Multi Function Radar for the Royal Danish Navy was subjected to the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at the Thales premises in Hengelo, the Netherlands. The test, witnessed by DALO (Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization) representatives was a resounding success: also after its technology refresh, APAR has proven to comply with all customer requirements.
The APAR Multi Function Radar is being installed, in accordance with the schedule agreed upon, on the Peter Willemoes, the second of the Iver Huitfeldt class frigates that are currently being built for the Royal Danish Navy. The first ship, the Iver Huitfeldt, is already sailing, but without APAR. The FAT for the second APAR system is scheduled to take place in August of this year and the third early 2012. The APAR on board of the Iver Huitfeldt class frigates is a part of Thales’s well-proven Anti Air Warfare suite (AAW) that consists of the APAR Multi-Function Radar, the SMART-L Volume Search Radar and the Fire Control Cluster. Similar AAW suites have been installed on the four “De Zeven Provinciën” class vessels of the Royal Netherlands Navy and the three “Sachsen” class vessels of the German Navy and have repeatedly demonstrated their effectiveness, also during multi-target attack scenarios. However, the FAT was not a simple repetition of the Dutch and German FATs. The development of APAR has continued and state-of-the-art technology has been introduced to the antenna and processing units. The DALO delegation that attended the APAR Factory Acceptance Test at the Thales premises, was impressed by APAR’s performance. The entire test cycle was executed without any flaw and DALO is confident that APAR will be a valuable and reliable asset on the Iver Huitfeldt class frigates. Following the success of Thales’ SMART-S Mk2 surveillance radar on the Absalon class ships and the absolutely trouble-free FATs of the three SMART-L Volume Search Radars last year, DALO has come to know Thales as a reliable supplier of high-quality products. The three SMART-L radar FATs were performed in 2010 and these systems have been delivered to the shipyard. | thalesgroup_________________ Le Prophéte (saw) a dit: Les Hommes Les meilleurs sont ceux qui sont les plus utiles aux autres |

Terma radar systems for the Danish Navys new frigates
| | The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization has signed a contract with Terma for the delivery of radar systems for the Danish Navys three new frigates of the IVER HUITFELDT class, which are expected to enteroperational service in 2013. |
The radar is intended for surveillance and rescue assignments and helicopter guidance. The first system will be installed in May this year, and the two additional systems in December 2011 and February 2012. Termas SCANTER 6000 naval surveillance radar is already installed on the U.S. Navys Stiletto vessel and will be installed as part of the French Offshore Patrol Vessel program Hermes later this year. Furthermore, the Spanish Coast Guard, Guardia Civil, has purchased a number of systems for the coastal surveillance along two coastlines in northern Spain. The radar is particularly suited to detect small targets such as a helicopter under demanding weather conditions at a distance of up to 15 nautical miles and guide the helicopter to a safe landing on board the vessel. The SCANTER 6000 is specifically developed for surveillance assignments at sea, and consequently it is well-suited for search and rescue assignments and to combat so-called asymmetric threats (terror and pirate attacks). Previously, Terma has delivered radar systems for a number of the Danish Navy vessels. The radars supplied comprise both the SCANTER 2001 as well as the SCANTER 4100 which has been installed on the ocean patrol vessels in the "KNUD RASMUSSEN" class. With the three new frigates, the Danish Navy obtains a considerable capacity to solve both national and international assignments. The frigates are 140 meters long and 20 meters wide and consist of seven decks, including helicopter landing deck and hangar. The crew comprises 101 persons. The vessels were built at the Odense Steel Ship Yard. Terma has already supplied the advanced C-Flex command and control system for the frigates. C-Flex integrates a number of the frigates defense systems, including the advanced AAW (Anti Air Warfare) air defense system and the decoy self-protection system SKWS (Soft Kill Weapon System), also supplied by Terma. The SCANTER radar systems come in different versions which are tailor-made for specific applications. At present, well over 1500 systems are in operation worldwide for the surveillance of coastlines and ports, naval surveillance and airport ground surveillance at large international airports. Due to their unique ability to detect small targets at large distances under severe weather conditions, Terma radars are in high demand in the fight against smugglers, illegal immigrants, pirates, terrorists and other illegalactivities. |

The Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) is to receive bombs for F-16 fighter aircraft from the Netherlands to attack ground targets in Libya. The Radio Netherlands Worldwide quoted deputy armed forces commander Vice-Admiral Wim Nagtegaal as saying the Netherlands was selling dozens of bombs to Denmark. The commander, however, could not specify the amount involved in the delivery, which is expected to execute in one or two weeks. The delivery forms part of the Netherlands' plans to enforce the UN arms embargo against Libya.
