Danish Defense Chooses Sectra’s New Tiger Secure Mobile Phone

LINKÖPING, Sweden | Sectra has signed a contract with the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization concerning deliveries of the new secure mobile phone Tiger 7401.

Tiger 7401 (www,communications.sectra.com/security-solutions/tiger-7401) is based on Sectra’s Tiger XS (www.communications.sectra.com/security-solutions/tiger-xs), the de facto standard for secure mobile communications within the EU. The Tiger system is used for voice communication, SMS and data at the SECRET security level. It communicates on 2G and 3G as well as satellite communication and IP networks to ensure the highest possible availability for the user.

"We look forward to introducing the Tiger 7401 for our users in the Danish Defense Forces. We are confident that it will meet their needs for secure mobile communications, while providing them with a familiar user experience," says Mogens P. Svendsen, Project Manager at Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization.

“Tiger 7401 meets our users’ high demands on flexibility and mobility. In a single device, it provides secure communication and transparent interoperability between, for example, national and EU domains,” says Michael Bertilsson, President of Sectra Communications AB. (www.communications.sectra.com/)

Sectra’s close cooperation with customers and national security agencies has resulted in the company’s solutions for secure communications being used in a majority of European countries, as well as in the EU and NATO. Users are decision-makers and officials in governments, defense authorities and critical functions of society, such as municipalities, police, customs and rescue services. All of these customers have a shared need to communicate securely everywhere at any time.

DSE Airport Solutions Selects Cambridge Pixel Radar Modules for Danish Air Force ATM Project

CAMBRIDGE, England | Cambridge Pixel, a developer of sensor processing and display solutions, is supplying its primary radar acquisition and network distribution solutions to Danish company DSE Airport Solutions (www.dseair.dk) as part of an air traffic management (ATM) project for the Royal Danish Air Force.

DSE’s solution is being deployed at three Danish military airports to provide an integrated air traffic management solution for radar control and flight plan management. As part of the upgrade, engineers needed a flexible solution for radar capture, compression and distribution which would easily integrate with their Windows-based application software, in particular DSE’s RADIS radar display client.

Under the contract, Cambridge Pixel will supply its HPx-200 PCI-based primary radar acquisition cards, which will receive standard (LOG) and moving target (MTI) video channels from the radar. Video data is then compressed and distributed using Cambridge Pixel’s SPx Server software running on dual redundant server PCs. On the client side, radar is received from the network, decompressed and made available to the application software for display.

Kim Foged, head of ATM Systems at DSE Airport Solutions, commented: “We chose Cambridge Pixel’s products because they demonstrated an understanding of our radar interfacing needs and were able to offer the precise modules of software that we needed for client-server distribution. The product performed exactly as expected and provided us with a cost-effective solution. Furthermore, during the development phase we found Cambridge Pixel to be very professional, answering and helping with all issues integrating the software library into our existing framework.”

David Johnson, managing director, Cambridge Pixel, said: “We are delighted to be working with DSE on this military ATC contract for the Danish Air Force. Our ability to provide just the modules required by DSE for radar acquisition, compression and distribution – rather than a complete radar display solution – is not something that many suppliers offer and is one of the reasons why we were successful. The modular approach that we offer is made possible by the investment we have made in our SPx software and this means that the customer is always firmly in control.”

Cambridge Pixel’s HPx-200 card is part of a family of radar acquisition and processing components that provide system integrators with a powerful toolkit to build server and client display systems. Cambridge Pixel’s world-leading SPx suite of software libraries and applications provide highly flexible, ready-to-run software products or ‘modules-of-expertise’ for radar visualisation, radar video distribution, plot extraction and target tracking.

Cambridge Pixel’s engineering team has decades of experience of developing complex radar processing and display systems for naval, air traffic control, vessel traffic, security and airborne radar applications.

RDAF becomes VSI’s first international NVCD-ANVIS customer

September 27, 2012 (by Christina Babbitt) - Vision Systems International (VSI), has been awarded a contract from the Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) to provide its Night Vision Cueing and Display-Aviator's Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVCD-ANVIS) technology, the night module for the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS).

"We are extremely proud of this award from the Royal Danish Air Force, which is a continuation of the 12-year-long strategic relationship and look forward to the successful implementation of this new operational capability," said VSI President Phil King. The RDAF will use VSI's NVCD-ANVIS to enhance its F-16 night-attack capability, for both air-to-air and air-to-ground operations. The RDAF is VSI's first international customer for the NVCD-ANVIS technology.

VSI’s NVCD-ANVIS technology, which enables night-time target acquisition capabilities through the display of JHMCS targeting cues and aircraft performance parameters directly on the Night Vision Goggles image, allows the pilot to accurately cue onboard weapons and sensors against enemy aircraft and ground targets without the need to aggressively turn the aircraft or place the target in a Head-Up Display (HUD) field-of-view for designation. The use of the NVCD-ANVIS necessitates no changes to the JHMCS, or to the aircraft's hardware or software.

The capabilities were successfully proven in four flight demonstration sessions, one of them in Denmark. "RDAF F-16 pilots demonstrated the efficient integration of NVGs with JHMCS during 300 hours of flight operations over Libya during their participation in Unified Protector 2011," said a RDAF spokesperson at the time, "The tactical information and situational awareness was outstanding."

"NVCD-ANVIS answers an urgent operational requirement for international JHMCS users. Its ease of operation and straight-forward installation makes it a natural extension for current JHMCS users, " said King.

Danish Army's M113 APC replacement programme moves ahead
15 November 2012
The Danish Ministry of Defence (MoD) has received proposals from eight European companies for a contract to replace the Royal Danish Army's ageing M113 armoured personnel carriers (APC) fleet.

A request for information (RFI) was floated by the MoD in May 2011 to manufacturers for the procurement of approximately 360 vehicles in six different configurations under a track versus wheel vehicles competition.

The configurations included an infantry, command and control, ambulance, mortar, as well as engineering and mechanical variants.

Companies bidding for the contract include BAE Systems Hagglunds, which proposed Armadillo variant of its CV90 tracked vehicle, FFG Flensburger, Rheinmetall Landsysteme and the Santa Barbara subsidiary of General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS), according to a statement by the procurement arm of the MoD.

The statement added that ARTEC, Nexter, Patria and the Mowag subsidiary of GDELS have proposed wheeled vehicles and provided no additional information on the type of vehicles.

The MoD is expected to down-select a number of contenders in the next few months, prior to the scheduled starting of vehicle trials in Denmark in March 2013.

Undisclosed Danish industry officials were cited by Defense News as saying that they expected the winning manufacturer to be under contract by the end of next year.

Manufactured by BAE Systems, the M113 is a fully-tracked APC capable of conducting amphibious operation, extended cross-country travel over rough terrain and high-speed operation on improved roads and highways.

The Danish Army operates 632 heavily-armoured M113s in different configurations, such as APC, command vehicles, repair vehicles, fitters vehicle, TOW carrier, ambulance, and combat engineers vehicle, as well as tactical air control party carrier and fire-fighting vehicle.
