- Bolivian Armed Forces demonstrate new tactics in joint exercise
Jonathan Olguin, Guadalajara, Mexico - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 04 August 2016
A long-awaited military exercise was conducted by the Bolivian Armed Forces in central Bolivia, 129 km from the city of Cochabamba, and displayed a new training concept implemented last year.
Operation 'Estamos Juntos /Khuska Kasanca 2016' ran 1-4 August and emphasised service interoperability in conventional and unconventional operations.
As part of the exercise a capabilities demonstration - attended by political authorities, the joint chiefs, and media - included deployment of 750 military personnel from the three services, of which about 200 were air force aircrews and support personnel and 95 belonged to the navy.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Gary Bleichner, an army spokesman, the scenario involved a "hypothetical response to an extra-national force that had invaded and occupied an area of the national territory, with the goal of taking control of our strategic [natural] resources, and was able to previously neutralise the command, control, and communications capabilities of our forces.
