The small Uruguayan Naval Aviation (ANU) service has received three Cessna O-2A Skymaster light utility/observation aircraft donated by the Chilean Naval Aviation service.
The aircraft left the Chilean base at Viña del Mar on 13 August and, with stops at Concón, Carriel Sur, Neuquén (Argentina), and Comandante Espora Naval Aviation Base (Argentina), they arrived at Uruguay’s Capitán Curbelo Naval Aviation Base on 17 August.
The aircraft, which held the serial numbers 335, 336, and 338 in Chilean service, received the Uruguayan serials ANU 761, ANU762, and ANU763. The first aircraft, however, will be used for spares.
The Skymasters will be used for coastal patrol and search and rescue, increasing ANU’s small air fleet, which currently includes two Beech Super King Air twin turboprops and two T-34C-1 Turbo Mentor single-turboprop trainers, as well as one Helibrás (Eurocopter) HB 355 Esquilo utility helicopter and two Eurocopter (MBB) BO 105P light helicopters.

US seeks used 212 helo for Uruguay
Gareth Jennings, London - Jane's Defence Weekly
08 February 2019
One of two Uruguayan Bell 212 helicopters currently deployed to the DRC in support of the UN MONUSCO mission. The US is looking for a used 212 to give to Uruguay, although it is unclear if this will add to the UN mission or replace one of the two helicopters already there. Source: Uruguayan Air Force
The United States is seeking a used Bell 212 utility helicopter to transfer to Uruguay, the Multi-National Aviation Special Project Office (MASPO) Program Executive Office (PEO), Aviation, announced on 5 February.
The helicopter, which is to be delivered in a flight-worthy condition four months after contract signature, is to be equipped with a night-vision goggle (NVG)-compatible cockpit, weather radar, flotation system, as well as specific communications and navigation equipment set out by the MASPO PEO.
The solicitation comes two months after the US Army said it was looking for a vendor to supply Bell 212 parts to sustain Uruguay’s two helicopters flying in support of the United Nation’s (UN) mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These two helicopters, procured by the Uruguayan Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya: FAU) in 1981, have been in the DRC since 2010 (a third helicopter arrived in 2012, but later in 2015 the force was downsized back to two). It is unclear if the FAU is now looking to restore a third helicopter to the mission, or if this surplus helicopter is being acquired to replace one of the two currently flying.

Navy of Uruguay takes delivery of three US Protector-Class patrol vessels
According to information published by the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay, On December 15, 2021, Admiral Jorge Wilson, Commander of the Uruguayan Navy, signed a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) finalizing the government-to-government agreement between the United States and Uruguay, allowing Uruguay to accept three Protector-Class patrol vessels as part of a grant from the United States Coast Guard as part of the Uruguayan Navy’s Fleet Modernization plan.

The three vessels, USCG Cutters Albacore (WPB-87309), Cochito (WPD-87329), and Gannet (WPB-87334), were all commissioned between 1999 and 2009. The original cost of the vessels was US$14,361,000 and the current estimated value is US$ 8,685,000.
Uruguay will receive the vessels themselves as a no-cost grant but, in accordance with U.S. law, will be responsible for paying US$ 4,986,296 for the vessels’ refurbishment, and for training for Uruguayan Navy personnel to employ the ships.
The 87-foot (27 m) Protector Class vessels have a 900 NM (1,700 KM) range, a top speed of 25 knots, and served in the United States on missions including homeland security, combating drug smuggling, immigration enforcement, marine fisheries enforcement and search and rescue support. The ships are designed to accommodate crews of mixed gender with five separate small berthing spaces and maximum berthing for 12. Each ship will include a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) that can be launched from the stern of the larger vessel via an innovative launch and recovery system. This capability allows for crews to quickly intercept, inspect and/or board other vessels while on patrol without stopping. The three specific vessels that Uruguay will receive, now decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard, were homeported in Connecticut, Virginia, and Florida.

Spanish shipyard wins contract to build 2 OPVs for Uruguay Navy
Naval News July 2023 Navy Forces Maritime Defense Industry
POSTED ON THURSDAY, 20 JULY 2023 15:46
According to information published by Uruguay on July 20, 2023, Uruguay's Minister of National Defense, Javier García, announced that the Uruguayan government has procured two Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) for the National Navy.

The vessels will be acquired from the Spanish shipyard, Cardama, for a price of €82.2 million. The decision was grounded on three main factors: technical advisements from the National Navy, cost considerations, and delivery timeframes.
The two vessels will significantly enhance the Navy's capability to safeguard national sovereignty at sea, protect natural resources, combat illegal activities and regain control over maritime space. This acquisition is a pivotal step towards rejuvenating the Navy's aging fleet and realizing a goal that has been held for over 15 years.
The procurement process was based on three essential pillars: technical compatibility, delivery timeframes, and cost. The ships met all the necessary conditions stipulated by the National Navy and were the most cost-effective offer received.
Moreover, they will be delivered within a promising timeframe, with the first vessel expected to arrive in early 2025 and the second one towards the end of the same year.
The purchase will be funded by reserves held by the National Corporation for Development, with additional support from the General Revenues. The OPVs, being new and modern, are expected to incur lower maintenance costs, further reducing the operational expenses. A package of spare parts for 10,000 hours of navigation is also included in the purchase, covering maintenance costs for a significant period.
Uruguayan Navy personnel are fully trained to operate these new vessels, and officers will participate throughout the construction process to verify and oversee all procedures. An external classification society is also included in the acquisition to ensure contract stipulations are fulfilled.
These two vessels will join three Protector-class vessels acquired last year and a donated vessel from the Korean government. The procurement represents the largest renovation of the National Navy's vessel capabilities in a long time, enabling the Navy to fully carry out its missions and functions.
Technical data
Each vessel has a displacement of 1700 tons, an overall length of 86.75 meters, a beam (width) of 12.20 meters, and a draft (depth) of 3.60 meters. The OPVs are designed with a platform and a hangar to accommodate a helicopter, expanding their operational range and capabilities. In terms of armament, each vessel comes equipped with a primary 30 mm gun and secondary armament of 12.7 mm guns.

Tecnam P2012 for Uruguayan Air Force
The Fuerza Aérea Uruguaya (FAU, Uruguayan Air Force) has teamed up with the Ministry of of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries to buy three Tecnam P2012 aircraft.
As can be expected, the USD 9 million purchase will help in combating various diseases affecting livestock and crops. This is done by dispersing sterile worms that then mate with the infectuous ones and reduce the amount of offspring.
Meanhwile, these aircraft can be used as light utility and transport aircraft by the Air Force to compensate for the C-95 (EMB110 Bandeirante) fleet that is no longer active after the last one ran into a wall on 28 October 2022.

Uruguay gets second Brasilia
The Fuerza Aérea Uruguayana (FAU, Uruguay Air Force) has acquired a second C-120 (EMB120RT) for around US$ 1.4 million. It will receive serial number 551 and join sister-ship 550 later his year.
After withdrawing the C-95 (EMB110) the need for more mid-size transport aircraft became pressing. The airframe was acquired from InterCaribbean Airways.
Most likely candidate is VQ-TDG (120275) that was last reported at Campo Grande. That is notable, because the local company ATM does EMB120 Brasilia rework and happens to be involved in this deal as well.

United States donates T-1A Jayhawk to Uruguay
Uruguay has been offered four disused T-1A Jayhawks, the military training variant of the Beech 400. This donation falls under the realm of the Excess Defense Articles (EDA) programme where superfluous material is given or sold at low cost to allies.
The Fuerza Aérea Uruguayana (FAU, Uruguay Air Force) does not operate twin engine business jets anymore. After the debacle with the impounded Hawker 700A that is for sale, no VIP or jet transport was acquired.
So, we can only speculate as to the task of these four aircraft. They will be donated "as is" so any conversion to search and rescue, transport or VIP-aircraft will have to be paid by Uruguay, as well as the transfer and maintenance costs.
Obtaining a couple more Brasilias or even a singel maritime patrol Beech 200/300 series aircraft would be far more logical, albeit even more costly probably...
