Drones in modern warfare, a case study for an anticipated conflict in the Sahara

It has been proved that in modern warfare, the party that has control of the skies wins the war, such control is very costly with traditional, conventional means; reconnaissance and ground strike planes require constant maintenance in a war configuration, as well as frequent refueling, crew rotation, and rearmament, all of which result in downtime and subsequently taking much needed firepower out of the the front line, time is a crucial part in a hostile environment and each second counts, a traditional aerial firepower in the form of reconnaissance planes and ground attack planes cannot be maintained around the clock, in addition to the time consuming process between the reconnaissance, the analysis of the data, the decision making and the scrambling of the attack planes. This is where a fleet of long endurance, high altitude drones excels, the ability to conduct reconnaissance delivering firepower on the same platform proved to be the most effective way to manage a battlefield.

In the very likely case that another conflict erupts in the Sahara, drones would be a key turning point in quickly and effectively detect, locate and eliminate any enemy movement, outpost or supply chain, this preventive strike strategy will deplete the enemy's resources quickly and effectively, along with the psychological impact that drones bring to the battlefield in a way that it creates a constant fear in the enemy's infantry and armor personnel.

A large theater such as the Sahara has proved to be hard to manage using manned airplanes, the conflict was mostly fought on the ground at a great disadvantage against a highly mobile enemy that strikes and retreats back across the border before planes even reach the runway, which often resulted in huge losses in personnel and equipment when troops were left to defend outposts against surprising attacks, the enemy carries out these attacks from the host nation and its operations involve travelling long distances in small formations of all terrain utility vehicles, these losses would be avoided with preventives strikes the very moment the enemy crosses the border, this strategy is attainable by an around the clock reconnaissance and ability to strike, the powerful electro-optic sensors, and ground radar would survey the land deep into the host nation and detect any potential movement towards the borders, the data would be processed and a decision would be made, by the time the enemy leaves the host nation's territories it will be taken out by a series of airstrikes from the readily firepower, all of this from the comfort of a command station in a ground base away from the front line.

The challenges rely in the acquisition of such drones as the club of strike drones is very limited, traditionally the United States refrained from selling its drones to other countries, although it helped its traditionally close allies mainly Israel and the UK in developing their own domestically designed and manufactured counterparts, other nations followed suits and joined the club, China, France, Russia and impressively Turkey all have an established attack drone manufacturing base.

Non pour avoir une industrie (défense ou pas) il faut avoir des client et donc des part de marché , ça n'existe pas une industrie que pour des besoin local quand on est un si petit marché

Je savais que quelqu'un allait me dire ça , je sais qu'une industrie doit rapporter de l'argent pour compenser l'effort de travail fourni ( logique capitaliste ) . Mais à mon avis il faut trouver des solutions pour éviter ce circuit .

pas que pour l'argent une fois que tu as construit par exemple 50 drones en 5 ans , même si l'industrie est subventionné les employé ils vont faire quoi après ?

les machines doivent tourné et les employé doivent avoir du travail pour pas perdre les compétences

Toi tue st parti a l'extrème , tu parle du model loockeed martin mais on est a des années lumière de ça même si on se lance demain

C'est simple les employés seront recrutés parmi les FAR . ( Bih Fih ) . Donc il n y aura pas ce problème de chômage après l'arrêt de la production .

Il y a l'Afrique ... Les marchés du continent devraient être maîtrisés par les nôtres, beaucoup mieux que ce qui est fait actuellement ....

Et puis une production de drone n'est pas uniquement militaire, en plus de la sécurité (drone de police, de gendarmerie et des douaniers) il y a le vaste marché du drone civile (agriculture.. tourisme.......)

si un jour on va être capable de vendre des drones a des pays africains par exemple il faut s'attendre à avoir plus de soutien de leur part pour notre cause nationale.
vendre les armes c'est aussi acheter des alliances, vous pensez que si on avait une industrie militaire très pointue notre adhésion à la CEDAO serais bloquée comme maintenant. il aurait suffit quelques 6x6 ou 8x8 par ici et quelques drones par la et le tour serait joué.

d'ailleurs c'est ce que la Chine est entrain de faire en Afrique.

Des DRONES !!!!! nous n'avons ni industrie électronique pour les capteur ni les missiles pour les armée on doit tout importé.........ça s'appelle du montage pas une industrie digne de ce nom.
commençant d'abord par les armes de mêlée, munitions de tout genre .............la route est encore très longue. Espérons qu'on commence dans les plus brefs délais par ce que là on est vraiment a la traîne.

Absolument !

Les notres n'ont que trop tarder. Il est inutile de vouloir chercher à être auto suffisant ( vision long term) mais sur le court terme, on peut devenir intégrateur sur la chaine de valeur et assembler at home.

Vu nos coup de production, il y a moyen de pouvoir casser les prix ....
