Cette formation sur le Majestic Eagle est le plus grand exercice planifié jamais connu », avait affirmé précédemment le sergent en chef des US Marines, Chad Mc Meen.Pour cet exercice de 2015, 15 pays d’Europe et d’Afrique participeront en tant qu’observateurs et pourraient devenir eux-mêmes des participants lors des futures éditions. Pour faciliter la communication entre les différents participants, l’agence américaine Federal Business Opportunities (FBO), a lancé un appel à candidature pour engager des interprètes notamment d’arabe, d’amazigh, de français et d’anglais.A noter que African Lion 2015 intervient dans un contexte géopolitique en Afrique et au Proche-Orient très inquiétant. Les membres de l’État islamique et d’Al Qaïda en Libye ont à plusieurs fois menacé les pays arabes. Des menaces qui ont été pris en compte par les pays arabes. A ce titre, le Conseil de Coopération du Golfe a demandé à plusieurs États de la région, dont le Maroc, de construire un front militaire uni pour lutter contre ces groupuscules. African Lion est une opération militaire américaine organisée chaque année au royaume, en coopération avec l’armée marocaine.

3,000 U.S., allied troops launch crisis response drills in Morocco

Fighter aircraft and live-fire exercises are just the tip of the spear at this year's African Lion exercise.

More than 3,000 U.S. and partner-nation troops have gathered in Morocco for the annual joint force exercise, the largest on the continent. Set to end Friday, it aims to reinforce training engagements from previous African Lion exercises and create a foundation for future military-to-military cooperation.

The lead component for the exercise is U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa, said Sgt. Tatum Vayavananda, a spokesman for the command, who added that the executing unit comes from 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

Along with command and control, "war-game"-type exercises, hundreds of Marines are conducting tactical field engagements such as live-fire ranges for small-arms weapons, nonlethal weapons systems and basic patrolling skills. They are operating mostly in the south in Agadir and Tifnit, as well as in Tan Tan.

"There are a bunch of units here from every service, from Marine combat logistics regiments and law enforcement battalions to an Army law enforcement unit and a public affairs detachment," Vayavananda told Military Times. "The logistics Marines also support the maritime offload in coordination with U.S. Military Sealift Command and U.S. Transportation Command to get the gear here from ship to shore."


To the north at Ben Guerir Air Base, the Air Force is conducting air training with Moroccan F-16 counterparts, said U.S. Air Forces Europe Air National Guard adviser Col. Pierre Oury, director for the air training component of the exercise.

"The Moroccans have brand new F-16s they purchased in 2011, and they are already flying combat operations with them, which is extraordinary," Oury told Military Times.

"They have one of the most capable air forces on the African continent, and we are very interested in working with their capabilities, and accomplishing objectives such as sharing our experiences and building stronger relationships."

Six F-16 fighters from the 52nd Fighter Wing based at Spangdahlem Air Force Base, Germany, members from USAFE headquarters in Ramstein, Germany, reservists from the 55th Combat Communications Squadron, and troops from the Utah National Guard who are aiding in humanitarian efforts amount to over 200 Air Force personnel in the area, Oury said.

KC-135s from the 100th Refueling Wing also have flown back and forth from RAF Mildenhall, England, to aid in refueling efforts.

"We also have some joint terminal attack controllers embedded with Marines down south to help provide [assistance] for some close-air support," Oury said.

Flying in Morocco gives both air forces a chance to test their maneuverability skills, particularly since the skies over that country are usually clear, Oury said.

The exercise is a good opportunity to test how well the partner nations can work together if they find themselves joining forces in a future coalition, Oury said.

However, the exercise is not related to "any specific threat," said Tech. Sgt. Alex Griffin, spokesman for USAFE-AFAFRICA.

The Air Force component to the exercise is fairly new, Griffin said. A few years ago, the Air Force separately conducted exercise Majestic Eagle around the same time frame; the exercises have been brought together to reinforce more training on a number of fronts.

"Every other year, the scale of the exercise alternates," Oury said, explaining that African Lion is intentionally planned to go from a large-scale exercise one year to a smaller version — mostly ground exercises — the following year.

In 2013, about 1,400 Marines, soldiers and sailors had to pack up and redeploy out of Morocco days after arriving for African Lion. The Marines, led by 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division, a Marine Corps Forces Reserve artillery unit out of Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, but with subordinate units spread across 13 states, had been training for the event for about six months.

"It was a political situation that was beyond our control," Oury said.

The surprising decision was a result of the Obama administration's support for the placement of United Nations human rights monitors in disputed Western Sahara territory.

The Air Force got in only one day of training, Oury said.

"That had no impact on the relations on the military side; the militaries were in complete understanding," Oury said. "The good news is that it has reinforced the good will to work with each other in the future, and to finish the job we started in 2013."

That same year, the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group stood up detachments at U.S. diplomatic posts in Juba, South Sudan; Casablanca, Morocco; and Freetown, Sierra Leone — the first of 50 locations that State Department officials identified as places where they would like to add detachments of Marines.

With this exercise and beyond, Marines and the remaining services "get to ... figure out what we can do to operate on the same song sheet and improve our capabilities on all fronts," Vayavananda said. "This is important, not only because Morocco is one of our closest and oldest allies in the region, but because we'll be able to work with them in the future with familiarity and history together as militaries."

Senegal, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Tunisia are also participating in African Lion.

N TAN, Morocco - Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Marines assigned to India Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment came together just outside Tan Tan, Morocco, to conduct several days of combined artillery training as a part of Exercise African Lion 15, May 15-18, 2015.

The purpose of the exercise was to increase artillery skills and teamwork between 90 Royal Moroccan Armed Forces artillerymen and 90 U.S. Marines through the implementation of realistic training. 

The training consisted of firing artillery rounds at old abandoned tanks set several miles away from the artillery placement, including a night illumination fire. The Moroccans and Americans called coordinates to each other from an observation position and took turns completing live fire missions and assisting each other in destroying their targets with artillery rounds from howitzers.

Capt. Justin T. Kratzer, a Lititz, Pennsylvania, native and commander of India Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, said he was impressed with the abilities the Moroccans showcased and said their capabilities had grown vastly since his last participation in African Lion four years ago.

“Their skill set is very refined for the equipment they use,” said Kratzer. “The digital gear that they are using allows them to check where rounds hit for more accuracy. They are very proficient, they have been putting accurate rounds on target, they just do it a little bit different than we do.”

Not only did the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and Marines spend time training together, they also spent time building friendships while eating, joking, hanging out and talking about life outside of their daily duties.

“This is my first time working with the Americans, and so far I like the way they operate,” said Hafid, an adjutant with the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces and 25 year veteran who did not wish to give his last name. “The Moroccans and Americans have developed a strong friendship throughout the years. We both love what we do and we work together quite well. All the training is great, but what’s important is the fraternal bond we have formed over the last few days."

Although the artillery training had positive results, it is only a small piece of the overarching Exercise African Lion 15 in which U.S. and Moroccan armed forces and a variety of representatives from eight African and European countries are taking part in throughout mid-May 2015. The exercise involves various types of training in several areas of Morocco, including a combined joint task force command post exercise linked with an intelligence capacity building workshop, a field training exercise, an aviation training exercise, stability operations exercise, and a humanitarian/civic assistance event. 

This exercise was conducted in accordance with UN-mandated peace operations with humanitarian assistance themes and emphasizes the strong military bond between U.S. and Moroccan Armed Forces. It reinforces training engagements conducted in previous African Lion exercises and creates a foundation for inter-military cooperation in the future. AL15 also improves interoperability between nations and builds relationships with key strategic partners within the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility.

Au niveau du Burkina Faso... la Forme obsolète, gilets pare-balles les mêmes.. AK-47... J'ai envie de pleurer...

Ils ont quoi nos AK ?? C'est un excellent FA adapté a notre armée et d'ailleurs on a des M-16 je pense que les FAR préfère le AK si il aurait voulu donner des m-16 a nos soldats il aurait pu.
Moi je trouve que l'équipement est convenable par rapport au budget de notre armée et ses moyens, gilet par balle convenable, casque également. Il faut tjr critiquer en fonction des moyens dont on dispose, on est pas l'us army

Regardez l armée irakienne équipée de a à Z comme les USA et regardez comment 150 da3ech ont fait fuir 5000 irakiens, C est pas cela qui fait un bon soldat un soldat marocain est un homme tout terrain. Souvenez vous les musulmans de Khaled Ibn Walid face aux perses sassanides et aux byzantins  l'armée perse était full équipée. J aimerai avoir du bon équipement pour nos soldats oui mais pas dire avoir honte le kalash dans le désert est l arme la plus fiable. Avoir honte c est de fuir devant  l'ennemi ou de pleurer l aviation pour faire déloger quelques cons
