The depot and General Dynamics Land Systems will partner throughout the next two years to produce 200 M1A1 Situational Awareness tanks for Morocco.

According to Amy Weichel, chief of the Morocco Program Office for Main Battle Tank Systems, the first 50 tanks will be overhauled completely at ANAD utilizing M1 tanks currently in storage at the installation.

"This initial quantity will provide the country of Morocco with a sufficient quantity of Abrams training tanks until the remaining tanks can be delivered," Weichel said.

The additional 150 tanks will be rebuilt using the Abrams Integrated Management Process.

Tanks produced using AIM are disassembled down to the bare hull and sandblasted at ANAD then sent to Lima Tank Plant in Ohio where assembly of the tanks will take place at a GDLS facility.

Production is slated to begin later this year with the last tanks schedule for delivery in mid-2018.

"This will assist Anniston in maintaining core skills for the Abrams tank at a time when domestic production has been paused awaiting the System Enhancement Program Version three," said Tommy Morgan, the logistics lead for the depot's Logistics and Business Development Office.

In addition to assistance with disassembly and overhaul of the tanks and some M1 components, the depot will also provide assistance in Morocco with deprocessing at ports of entry and field service repair, according to Weichel.

In June 2012, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress today of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for enhancement and refurbishment of 200 M1A1 Abrams tanks and associated parts, equipment, logistical support and training for an estimated cost of $1.015 billion.

In September 2015, the U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command has announced a $358 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract for General Dynamics Land Systems to refurbish and upgrade 150 M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks to the M1A1 SA (situational awareness) configuration for sale to the Kingdom of Morocco.

Under the M1A1 SA program, the main battle tanks were completely disassembled and overhauled to a like-new, zero-mile condition. The M1A1s for Morocco are configured with armor upgrades and additional mission-critical technologies to bolster crew situational awareness.

This package of M1A1 tank enhancements will contribute to the modernization of Morocco’s tank fleet, enhancing its ability to meet current and future threats. These tanks will contribute to Morocco’s goal of updating its military capability while further enhancing interoperability with the U.S. and other allies.

With these new tanks, the Kingdom of Morocco modernize its military fleet and has received M1A1 Abram main battle tanks from the U.S. Army as part of a foreign military sales case coordinated by the Army Security Assistance Command. The case includes associated spare parts, equipment, logistical support and training.

The Abrams Tank Upgrade includes two powerful variants, the M1A1 SA (Situational Awareness) and the M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Program) version 2. The M1A1 SA is an upgrade version of the basic M1A1 model with the goal to produce older units to zero hour conditions.

The M1A1 SA uses the same main armament as the standard version of M1A1 main battle tank. The M1A1 SA is armed with the 120 mm M256 smoothbore gun. The main 120 mm smoothbore M256 armament is equipped with a muzzle reference system to measure the bend of the gun tube. Mounted coaxially to the right of the main armament is a 7.62 mm M240 machine gun, and a similar weapon skate-mounted on the left side of the turret for the loader can be elevated from -30 to +65º, total traverse being 265º. A total of 11,400 rounds of 7.62 mm machine gun ammunition is carried.

A first batch of 22 M1A SA Abrams main, battle tanks have already been delivered to the Moroccan armed forces.

Même sans impact, les déchets de l'uranium naturel (DU) est radioactif, mais dangereux pour la santé seulement dans un long terme.

Et j'ai entendu que l'US à offert le DU à l'Australie, mais ils ont refusé.

L'Egypte fait face au lobby israélien pour tout équipement stratégique.
Enfin, pour l'AS, Koweit et l'Irak, Les USA ne voudront jamais risquer qu'un jour une technologie aussi avancée tombe aux mains des terroristes comme en IraK ou Russes/chinois via les iraniens.

Twenty-two M1A1 (situational awareness configuration) Abrams tanks were officially handed over to the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces during a ceremony in Nouaceur, Morocco, July 26.

An additional 200 vehicles will be delivered to the Moroccan Army through the United States' foreign military sales program and will include radios, training ammunition, spare parts, tools and test equipment, personnel training, training aids and simulators.

The refurbished materiel will modernize the Kingdom of Morocco's military and the ability to meet current and future needs.

According to Amy Weichel, chief of the Morocco Program Office for Main Battle Tank Systems at the Program Executive Office for Ground Combat Systems, the initial 22 vehicles underwent a complete overhaul and rebuild at Anniston Army Depot, with the exportable turret armor being installed by General Dynamics Land Systems at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio. Another 50 vehicles will be produced utilizing this production process.

"In addition, 150 tanks will follow the Abrams Integrated Management Process, a partnership between ANAD and GDLS, where a complete tear down and overhaul/rebuild is performed, resulting in a 'zero hours, zero miles' vehicle," Weichel added.

The refurbished vehicles are being provided through the FMS process known as Excess Defense Articles. EDA allows for our country's allies to receive materiel that the U.S. government no longer uses. Equipment designated under the program can save the U.S. money by eliminating potential storage or disposal costs of materiel and make room for other items to be stored as they are returned from theater. The EDA program provides the potential for the industrial base to support parts, refurbishment and sustainment of the vehicles.

"This tank production supports the U.S. industrial base, providing work to the depots and contractors, and can result in mutual cost savings with economies of scale," Weichel said. "It also adds to the longstanding relationship between the U.S. government and the Kingdom of Morocco, allowing Morocco to modernize its forces."

TACOM's Main Battle Tank Systems New Equipment Training Team, who trains U.S. Soldiers on tank operation and maintenance, will begin training for the Moroccan Army in September.

The Army's security assistance enterprise has worked together on this FMS case since congressional notification in 2012 to provide the equipment to the partner nation, ensuring regional stability and building partner capacity.

"This is a win-win situation for everyone," Scott Huther, U.S. Army Security Assistance Command's division chief for AFRICOM regional operations, said. "We are providing our partner not just with equipment, but a capability, which is what building partner capacity is about."

USASAC's Commander Maj. Gen. Stephen Farmen, along with Brig. Gen. David Bassett, program executive officer for GCS, attended the delivery ceremony. The event marked Farmen's first senior leader engagement with a foreign partner since taking command in June.

"When it comes to the security assistance enterprise working in unison to deliver FMS effectively, this event is a perfect example of trust and teamwork equaling 'Strength in Cooperation,' the USASAC motto," Farmen said.

Bassett welcomed the Kingdom of Morocco into the Abrams family by stressing what it means to have the platform in their arsenal.

"Now that you are part of the Abrams family you have a powerful capability," Bassett said. "That capability is the option of sending a powerful message. If that message is to our enemies the Abrams sends a message of strength. If that message is to our allies, the Abrams sends a message of support."

Non au total il y aura 222 char on a recu 22 il y aura une suite de 50 char assemblés à l'usine de lima. la dernière livraison est de 150 char sera fait avec un processus d'assemblage différent ( site et contracteur ) mais il reste que les 222 sont des mise à zéro comme neuf mais à prix inferieur au prix du neuf parce que ça reste un contrat dans le cadre de l'EDA ( qui n'est pas conventionnel puisqu'il y a overhul et des spécificités commandés par notre EM comme spécial armor, situtionnel awarness....... ).
