The WELP Group will showcase its new VPAM 6 helmet for the special forces at the Eurosatory 2018 exhibition in Paris.
The WELP Group said in a statement that the VPAM 6 combat helmet offers unprecedented bullet resistance according to VPAM HVN 2009 protection class 6. This is equivalent to ballistic protection against calibre 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition. This exceptionally high ballistic protection is provided throughout the helmet’s entire surface area of 1.335 cm2.
According to the company, in contrast to the common frequently used protective helmets, the H6 PRO offers unrestrictedly high 360 degree protection. Thus, the helmet wearer is completely protected even in the edge areas. Conventional helmet manufacturers often use different materials or deliberately abandon protection of the edge areas.
The H6 PRO combat helmet has an adjustable belt system, which secures it reliably against accidental slipping. Thanks to the padded inserts, the H6 PRO also offers a high degree of wearing comfort, which can be adjusted to different head circumferences from 51 to 65 cm by using the built-in flexible belt system. The belt system is also very easy to use and constructed for one-handed adjustments, enabling its wearer to make quick adjustments to the helmet in action.
Via a flexible rail system on the outside of the helmet, all established accessories can be attached – without screw holes through the outer shell.
The special construction of the H6 PRO offers the helmet wearer the best possible vision and the possibility of using common night vision devices. Despite its full edge protection, the hearing ability of the helmet wearer is only restricted minimally.
Eurosatory 2018: Carmor to unveil Mantis armored personnel carrier

The Carmor Integrated Vehicle Solutions (previously known as Hatehof) is expected to unveil its new armored personnel carrier, called the Mantis, at the Eurosatory 2018 exhibition in Paris.
According to the ynetnews.com, Manufacturer of the new Mantis armored personnel carrier, which boasts an extraordinary appearance and state-of-the-art specifications, promises excellent navigability, high-end road performance and uncompromising shielding; Mantis to be unveiled at Eurosatory defense and security international exhibition in Paris next month.
In today’s fighting environments, the teams need vision, access to information, ability to act quickly, speed and comfort, Carmor’s engineer teams have ensured all of the above and more in the newly developed Monocoque APC, the Mantis Family of Vehicles.
The vehicle’s driver is seated in the center with the engine located to the back, a configuration that is highly advantageous in many respects. The driver, for one, is afforded outstanding visibility in all directions thanks to the absence of a long engine cover—a familiar Achilles’ heel in armored vehicles.
The prototypical vehicle outfitted with a Cummins turbo-diesel engine with six cylinders and a 6.8 liter capacity, along with a 360 horsepower output.
The engine hooked up to an automatic six-gear box by Ellison Electronics. The separate suspension arms to the front and back of the vehicle were manufactured by the Czech ATS company, which specializes in armored vehicles’ propulsion systems.
The first Mantis model to be showcased at the Eurosatory trade show will resemble a pickup truck with a bed and a passenger cabin capable of housing five soldiers.

General Robotics – a company specializing in developing, manufacturing and marketing advanced robotic systems for Defense and Homeland Security – showcases the Pitbull, an ultralight remote weapon station with Anti-Drone capabilities at the EUROSATORY 2018.
The Pitbull provides an ideal solution for detecting and tracking all types of drones during flight, enabling their neutralization and downing.
According to Shahar Gal, CEO, “We are pleased to present Pitbull AD (Anti-Drone) Ultralight Remote Weapon Station at Eurosatory, in response to the growing global threat posed by drones. Pitbull can intercept drones, even while in flight, thereby assisting with border protection and HLS. Interest in these solutions has already been expressed by various organizations around the world.”
Pitbull AD, which weighs only 70 kg., is easily installed on all manned and unmanned ground, air, and maritime platforms including ultralight vehicles such as ATVs, as well as on fixed stations. The system, which can integrate with any existing sensors, detects and tracks all types of drones in flight, can neutralize them via RF, intercept them, and if needed, bring them down by either soft- or hard-kill.
In addition to Pitbull, the company will also present DOGO – Anti-Terror Robot at the exhibition. Weighing only 10 kilos, DOGO is being used by Special Forces, SWAT teams, and infantry around the world. Standard pistols can be quickly attached to DOGO and easily operated via Point & Shoot technology. DOGO can also integrate with non-lethal modules. The robot includes eight video cameras that provide 360° live video and boresight views and can communicate in hostage situations. The DOGO is being sent into Fatal Funnels to provide Situational Awareness and remote engagement capabilities to increase the survivability of the fighting forces.
EUROSATORY 2018: Gaia to present two families of armored vehicles

Gaia Automotive Industries – developer of state-of-the-art automotive defense products for complex applications – will present its ‘THUNDER’ and ‘AMIR’ armored vehicles at EUROSATORY 2018.
THUNDER is a multi-purpose 4×4 armored vehicle that can carry up to 12 people and a payload of up to 1.8 tons. It is built on commercial Chassis such as F-550 Ford and its crew compartment offers Level II/III, stanag 4569 protection.
Optional add-ons include: fire-fighting systems in the engine and crew compartment; a night vision system; NBC filtration system, Remote Control Weapon Station (RCWS), gunner turret etc. As a personnel carrier, the various applications for THUNDER vehicles include police; logistics; peacekeeping; ambulances and more.
AMIR is a multi-purpose 4×4 or 6×6 mine-protected vehicle, that can carry up to 12 people and a payload of up to 3 tons. It has independent suspension for tactical mobility. Optional add-ons include: manual one-man turret 12.7/20/25/40mmcaliber remote control weapon station; 81/120mm mortar carrier; missile launcher/ anti-tank missile launcher/anti-aircraft turret and more. Applications for AMIR include: reconnaissance; rapid intervention; personnel carrier for peacekeeping, ambulances, logistics and more.
The AMIR can be bullet protected up to Stanag 4569 level 4 and up to 10 Kg TNT mine.

“As we celebrate CONTROP’s 30th anniversary, we are proud to launch the SIGHT-HD at EUROSATORY, following an intensive development process,” says Hagay Azani, CONTROP’s new CEO. “The SIGHT-HD was created especially for Remote Weapon Stations, to maintain bore-sight in conditions of shocks and vibrations. It incorporates digital and mechanical compensatory mechanisms that we have developed to significantly contribute to shooting precision.”
The SIGHT-HD is a gyro-stabilized payload that was especially developed to withstand extreme environmental conditions, facilitating mid-to-long range target acquisition, day and night, for mobile and stationary applications. When installed on AFVs, it is ideal for a wide range of applications, such as border surveillance, perimeter protection of sensitive installations, force protection, route clearance and more. At just 13kg, the low-weight payload is easily installed on any type of vehicle or weapon station.
The SIGHT-HD includes a high-performance Thermal Imaging (TI) camera using a 3-5µ Cooled IR detector with a continuous zoom lens; High Definition (HD) Color Day camera with a continuous zoom lens; and an Eyesafe Laser Range Finder (ELRF), all integrated into an all-in-one Line Replacement Unit (LRU). The advanced image processing features include local AGC on the TI and Day cameras; Video Enhancement; Automatic Video Tracker and Picture-in-Picture (PIP). A Laser Pointer, Control Unit (CU) and Digital Video Recorder (DVR) are also available as optional add-ons.
“The SIGHT-HD is the first in a family of dedicated SIGHT payloads that we are currently developing for mobile land applications, to meet our clients’ requirements.” says Azani. “The SIGHT-HD system is currently in the process of being evaluated by several important customers before an expected procurement.”
EUROSATORY 2018: IWI will present its latest generation of small arms

Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), SK Group member – a leader in the production of combat-proven small arms for law enforcement agencies, governments, and armies around the world – will present the company’s latest additions, the MASADA line of Striker-based pistols, and the TAVOR 7, the newest member of the TAVOR Bullpup rifle family, at Eurosatory 2018.
The MASADA Striker-based line of pistols has several advanced safety mechanisms including a firing pin block safety, a clean and crisp trigger reset with a built-in trigger safety, and a fast, easy and safe takedown – with no need to pull the trigger. The pistol can be provided with or without manual safety. It has an easy racked slide with improved front and rear cocking serrations, enhanced ergonomics with the IWI grip angle, and a low barrel axis for reduced recoil. The body has a glass-reinforced polymer frame as well as a polygonal cold hammer forged barrel with a 1:10RH twist rate.
The first model – the Full Size 9X19mm MASADA pistol – will be on display at Eurosatory.
Additional features include fully ambidextrous operating controls and fixed 3-dot tritium illuminated Meprolight night sights. It offers 100% interchangeability with a compatible trigger mechanism housing, reducing maintenance and life cycle costs. The pistol has an overall length of 6.6″ (186.4mm) with a barrel length of 4.1″ (104mm), a trigger pull weighing 5.5-7.0 lbs. (2.5-3.175 kg), and a weight without the magazine of 22.9 ounces (650 g). The MASADA will be available in four colors: Sniper Gray, OD Green, Black, and Flat Dark Earth.
The TAVOR 7, a 7.62X51mm Caliber AR, is a fully ambidextrous platform on which the ejection side and the charging handle can be switched quickly and easily from side to side by the user. Additional ambidextrous features include: safety lever, magazine release, and bolt catch similar to the X95. The IWI TAVOR 7 also includes an M-LOK fore-end (2 M-LOK slots at 3 and 9 o’clock) as well as MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail at the 6 o’clock position, to allow the use of multiple devices and accessories. The rifle’s body is built from high-strength, impact-modified polymer, and has a hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating barrel for enhanced accuracy and life cycle.
Additional features include a short stroke gas piston with a 4–position variable gas regulator, (including an OFF position – a unique feature designed for special operation needs), a rotating bolt system that ensures maximum safety for the user, and a pistol grip that can be changed or modified. The IWI TAVOR 7 enables 100% interchangeability, reducing maintenance costs. It is available in four colors: Sniper Gray, OD Green, Black, and Flat Dark Earth, with replaceable barrels available in two lengths – 17″ (432 mm) and 20″ (508 mm) – for various uses. The rifle has an overall length of 28.4″ (723 mm) and a weight without a magazine of 9lbs (4.1 Kg).

Eurosatory 2018, un salon en croissance régulière
Eurosatory, le plus grand salon international de défense et de sécurité terrestre et aéroterrestre en termes d’exposants, ouvrira ses portes du 11 au 15 juin prochain au Parc des expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte. Dans un contexte économique très favorable, le salon reste la plateforme mondiale N°1 de ce marché et promet de bonnes affaires.
Le marché de Défense et de Sécurité
Le marché mondial Défense et Sécurité connaît depuis quelques années une forte croissance (+9% estimée entre 2018 et 2019 pour le secteur de la Sécurité). Avec 18 milliards de chiffres d’affaires et 165000 emplois dont 20000 hautement qualifiés, la filière Défense est le 3ème secteur industriel et un acteur économique central pour la France. La filière Sécurité n’en est pas moins puisqu’elle représente 1,3% du PIB français et compte 300000 emplois marchands avec une vision pour 2020 de créer 52000 nouveaux emplois marchands. Plus de la moitié de sa production va vers l’export. Avec ce constat, la tenue d’Eurosatory permettra de mettre en avant les dernières innovations technologiques de cette filière et joue le rôle de fédérateur entres les différents acteurs économiques. De ce fait, on y retrouve un nombre important d’exposants en augmentation régulière.
Des exposants en croissance continue
Organisé par le GICAT à travers sa filiale le COGES, Eurosatory 2018 est le salon leader de son marché enregistrant une croissance continue en termes d’exposants depuis sa création. De 2002 à 2018, son nombre d’exposants a évolué de manière constante, passant de 827 à 1750. Entre 2016 et 2018, l’accroissement est de 11% (1750 exposants en 2018 contre 1571 en 2016). Pour l’édition de 2016, 66% des sociétés participantes étaient internationales, originaires de 57 pays et réparties dans 36 pavillons nationaux sur une surface totale de 167217 m². Pour 2018 la croissance des exposants internationaux est de 14%. Toute la filière Défense et Sécurité sera présente sur le salon Eurosatory. On note la participation des sociétés françaises et internationales opérant dans les activités d’ingénierie, de recherche, de fabrication, de distribution, de formation, de service (logistique, maintenance, conseil, études)…
Les pays les plus représentés pour cette nouvelle édition d’Eurosatory sont : la France (590 exposants), Les Etats-Unis (150), l’Allemagne (115) et Israël (71). On constate également une percée croissante des exposants venant de la Turquie (60), de l’Australie (45) et de la Corée du Sud (32). De nouveaux pays seront présents en 2018 tels que : le Cap Vert, la Géorgie, le Kazakhstan, le Nigeria et l’Oman. En termes de visitorat, Eurosatory prévoit 58000 visiteurs professionnels, en accroissement par rapport à l’édition précédente: elle avait accueilli 57 024 visiteurs professionnels dont 46% internationaux. 230 délégations officielles en Armées, Forces Spéciales, Forces de Sécurité et du secteur civil, sont attendus pour 2018 contre 212 en 2016. Quant aux VIP, 200 VIP Experts et 1500 visiteurs VIP sont invités (contre 179 et 1522 respectivement pour 2016). En outre, cette nouvelle édition sera marquée par plusieurs nouveautés majeures.

Les grands groupes français font un grand effort et présentent aux visiteurs plus de 500 nouveaux produits étalés sur une surface totale brute d’exposition de 132000 m². La totalité de la chaine de production des véhicules sera complètement présentée. La sécurité privée connaîtra un développement important. L’anti-aérien reste également un point fort renforcé par la lutte anti drones et l’anti artillerie.

EUROSATORY 2018: Arquus to showcase Areg special forces vehicle

French Arquus (ensemble of Renault Trucks Defense and armoured vehicle subsidiary of Volvo Group) took the opportunity at the Eurosatory conference in Paris to showcase the special force’s vehicle called the Areg.
The vehicle is designed for Special Forces penetration missions beyond front lines, the Areg is the perfect match between all-terrain mobility, sturdiness and firepower.
According to the company, its 4×4 chassis is adapted to all military operations, in the most extreme conditions, which allow for quick interventions on the most hostile terrains. Stealthy and extremely mobile, the Areg can carry a large range of firepower, thanks to its circular machine gun and its articulated arm for the crew chief.
The vehicle could be fitted with a 12.71 heavy machine gun mounted in the rollcage ring-mount or 7.62 mm light machine gun (secondary armament on articulated arm for the on-board commander). Also, up to four 5.56 or 7.62 mm light machine guns can also be fitted to four individual crew member mounts.
The gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 4,200 kg. The vehicle can seat four crew in individual blast-attenuating seats.
The Areg optimized to meet complex mission sets as a surveillance, reconnaissance, and long range patrol-type roles.
EUROSATORY 2018: Steadicopter to unveil final configuration of its Black Eagle 50 compact RUAV

The Black Eagle 50 is a VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) robotic observation system. It is an ideal solution for tactical maritime and land Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions.
The system has a steady hovering endurance of up to 3 hours and flight endurance of up to 4 hours. At only 30kg, the Black Eagle 50 is extremely lightweight and compact, with a maximum take-off weight of 35Kg, and payload capacity of 3Kg. It has a communication range of up to 100km, depending on the client’s requirements, and a service ceiling of up to 9,000ft. Its total length is just 2540mm, while its maximum air speed is 70knots (126Km/h) and cruising speed of 47 Knots (85 Km/h).
“Currently, the Black Eagle 50 is in demo mode with a number of customers around the world ahead of expected orders in the coming months,” says Noam.

At the EUROSATORY 2018 exhibition, the BlueBird Aero Systems company will display the ThunderB, a small, long range, long endurance, tactical UAS with the releasable cargo capsules under its wings, as well as the SpyLite Mini-UAS, and the recently-revealed configuration of the MicroB Micro-UAS.

ThunderB is a small, innovative, long endurance tactical UAS (~30Kg, 4m wing-span) that creates a new niche in the tactical UAS arena providing capabilities previously found only in much larger UAV’s usually with weight of above 150Kg.
The ThunderB UAV has the ability to carry small cargo units under each wing, and release the cargo automatically or by a GCS command. The cargo is carried and released by an integrated, electro-mechanical release mechanism. The released cargo is housed in an aerodynamic enclosure (capsule) to reduce the drag to the minimum.
Upon automatic release of the capsule, it will reach the target with high accuracy following a ballistic trajectory. The cargo capsules can also be dropped with the aid of a small parachute to prevent damage to fragile items.
The ThunderB cargo release ability can be used in numerous missions and scenarios such as: ◾Lifesaving search and rescue (S&R) missions where after finding the objective, it is important, as a first response, to provide rescue measures i.e communication device (phone, portable radio, etc), a bottle of water, floating device, etc. ◾Dropping of essential material such as drugs in an epidemic situation ◾Scattering small ground intelligence sensors to achieve wide ground coverage
The ThunderB supports a wide range of optional payloads including a triple sensor, three-gimbal gyro-stabilized payload, with a Cooled thermal imager, HD day color camera and Laser Pointer and BlueBird’s RGB, NIR and Radiometric photogrammetric payloads. The ThunderB can also be integrated with other payloads such as non-imaging payloads, small SAR and others.
With its long endurance capability (up to 24 hours), its extended control range (150Km), and its variety of optional payloads, the ThunderB is an ideal solution for long, covert, low signatures ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) and/or tactical mapping on demand (TMOD) missions.
EUROSATORY 2018: Rafael to unveil revolutionary air defence system

Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense systems Ltd., has devised a new concept of a revolutionary air defence system that will combine enablement the modern technologies to deal with the ever-changing combat challenges on the modern battlefield.
Rafael to unveil during at EUROSATORY 2018 exhibition its Integrated all-in-one air defense based on the operational and combat-proven Iron Dome system, which has achieved more than 1700 combat interceptions at a success rate of over 90%.
According to the company’s statement, Very Short Range (VSHORAD) integrated air defense and counter rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) System, integrated on a single vehicle. It provides protection of motorized or mechanized troops, as well as point air defense of military/industrial/administrative installations.
A single battery can protect a medium-size city. The new advanced system provides robust, yet selective defense. The complex uses a unique interceptor with a special warhead that detonates the targets in the air. Its ability to discriminate between threats headed towards a populated area and those that will fall into the sea or open fields reduces costs and limits unnecessary interceptor launches.
The system is effective in all weather conditions, including low clouds, rain, dust storms or fog. The system can engage multiple threats simultaneously and efficiently.

According to the company announce, Rheinmetall also is set to unveil it Oerlikon Skyranger Boxer mobile air defence system at the Eurosatory 2018.
“A highly effective wheeled armoured air defence system based on the battle-tested 8×8 Boxer, it is equipped with a 35mm revolver cannon as well as its own suite of search and target-tracking sensors,” – said in announce.
The Skyranger anti-aircraft gun system based on Boxer 8×8 chassis is a short-range air defense system, designed to protect mobile units and stationary installations.
The unmanned turret is equipped with a 35-mm revolver gun, which is based on successful 35/1000 revolver gun. It has a lot of commonality with the previous Oerlikon Contraves 35-mm air defense artillery systems. It has an dual feeding system, which gives the operator choice of two types of ammunition.
The Skyranger unmanned turret has an electro-optical tracking sensor, which automatically tracks the targets, assigned either by the control center, external radars, or targets acquired by its own sensors. The passive sensor system consists of an infrared camera, TV camera, laser rangefinder. It is an all-weather system, which operates in day or night conditions.

MBDA présente un mini module de commandement et de contrôle. Le système Licorne rapidement déployable peut être utilisé notamment pour la lutte anti drone.
MBDA développe et commercialise des missiles mais l'industriel européen est aussi un spécialiste des systèmes de contrôle et de commandement (C2). A l'occasion du salon Eurosatory 2018, MBDA présente un petit module C2 pouvant être rapidement déployé en opération afin de diriger un réseau de défense aérienne courte portée.
Le système est baptisé Licorne. Il assure les fonctions de surveillance de détection et d'identification de cibles aériennes. Selon MBDA, il peut être associé "à des capteurs de veille infrarouge panoramique, des radars légers, des capteurs d’écoute du spectre ou des capteurs acoustiques". Le système peut être relié à des systèmes de missiles sol-air courte portée et d'artillerie. Licorne a été conçu pour être rapidement déployé dans le cadre d'une opération amphibie ou aéroportée afin de fournir un premier échelon de défense aérienne à une force projetée.
MBDA annonce également que Licorne peut être couplé avec des systèmes de défense contre les drones. L'industriel européen explique avoir adapté à un usage militaire des détecteurs et des brouilleurs issus de gammes civiles.
L'entreprise australienne Silvertone a profité du salon Eurosatory pour présenter son drone à voilure fixe Flamingo MK3.
Sur le pavillon australien, Silvertone compte bien démontrer son savoir-faire. L'entreprise présente ainsi son drone Flamingo MK3, une aile fixe dont la masse maximale au décollage atteint les 25 kilos. Cet aéronef VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) de 4,1 mètres d'envergure, dispose d'une autonomie de 15 heures et peut emporter une charge utile allant jusqu'à 10 kilos (6 kilos et 2 kilos sous chaque aile).
Très modulaire, ce drone peut emporter un large spectre de charges utiles. Il a été imaginé afin d'être personnalisable et ainsi faire face à des besoins extrêmement variés. Ce drone répond donc à de multiples besoins en terme de surveillance et d'observation. Il peut être employé dans le domaine civil, comme c'est déjà le cas au Brésil dans le secteur énergétique, et de la sécurité publique, afin de réaliser des missions de maintien de l'ordre.

The new version features hard points wired for carriage of sensors and cameras. The configuration has already been tested across the flight envelope using a 50kg ultra-high-definition camera.
The TBM 910, launched in April 2017, is equipped with Garmin’s G1000 NXi all-glass avionics suite controlled by a physical keypad, while the TBM 930, introduced in 2016, features Garmin’s G3000 touchscreen-controlled glass flight deck.
Nicolas Chabbert, Senior Vice President of Daher's Airplane business unit, says the ISR version offers operators a fast, all-weather surveillance capability at a highly competitive cost-performance ratio compared with existing solutions. Chabbert sees the new version as a complement to MALE remotely piloted platforms or heavier manned aircraft, offering a reduced logistics footprint and ease of deployment.
The ISR variants can also carry a multi-sensor optronics turret, SAR/GMTI radar, signals intelligence system and secure transmission systems. A console can be installed behind the pilot for a systems operator to monitor the tactical situation.
The aircraft can be rapidly reconfigured for conventional missions, such as VIP transport, cargo or medical evacuation.

Rheinmetall Canada has unveiled a newly named Mission Master Cargo unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), which is a new version of the Multi-Mission UGV that was first revealed at IDEX in February 2017. The platform is designed for direct support of dismounted troops and is available in a cargo and casualty evacuation version, and a surveillance and reconnaissance version. The new UGV was revealed during Eurosatory 2018 in Paris, and Rheinmetall Canada spoke to Jane’s prior to the event.
Modules can be swapped in and out as required, so the UGV can fulfil mission sets including logistics support; weaponised; chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear and explosives (CBRNE); and communications relay. “The end user can buy either a surveillance module, CBRN module or fire suppression module and clip it onto the vehicle itself with no modification required. The software can integrate and interact with any of those mission modules that are already embedded into every single UGV,” Alain Tremblay, vice-president of business development for Rheinmetall Canada, told Jane’s .
In the weaponised role, the platform is fitted with a remote weapon station featuring a 12.7 mm machine gun. Live fire testing was done at the end of 2017 on a military base in Canada to trial how the UGV could lock onto a target, the target then be confirmed by operators, and the platform fire by itself up to a range of 800 m.
Tremblay noted that any type of remote weapon station, regardless of the manufacturer, can be fitted to the platform. “The open architecture of the software allows anything to be mounted, even a Russian type missile which has a different architecture system to the western world,” he said. “Early next year we are going to be starting to work on a medium calibre 20 mm remote weapon station for the same platform which is actually not that difficult to do.

Pour le moment, la succession du Véhicule blindé léger (VBL) n’est pas encore officiellement ouverte. La Loi de programmation militaire (LPM) 2019-25 prévoit la « régénération » de 730 exemplaires d’ici 2025. Cette opération va consister à améliorer leur moteur, leur boîte de vitesse, leur suspension et leur système de freinage, afin de prendre en compte leur masse devenue plus importante au fil du temps, avec l’intégration de nouvelles protections et autres systèmes divers.
Cependant, lors de cette période, l’armée de Terre espère pouvoir lancer le projet VBAE [Véhicule blindé d’aide à l’engagement] appelé à prendre le relai des VBL dans le cadre de la seconde phase du programme SCORPION [Synergie du contact renforcée par la polyvalence et l’infovalorisation].
Ces derniers temps, il a été beaucoup fait de cas du Hawkei de Thales, c’est à dire un 4×4 léger blindé déjà choisi par les forces terrestres australiennes. Ce véhicule passe en effet pour être un candidat sérieux pour le programme VBAE, comme l’a récemment souligné le site Forces Opérations Blog.
Mais il ne sera pas le seul. À l’occasion du salon de l’armement terrestre Eurosatory, ARQUUS (ex-Renault Trucks Defense/ACMAT/Panhard) a dévoilé un nouveau véhicule blindé léger : le Scarabee.
« Successeur du VBL et héritier des véhicules blindés Panhard, il s’agit d’un concept offrant des innovations d’avant-garde et une performance inégalée », fait valoir ARQUUS dans son communiqué. Cela étant, l’industriel est plutôt chiche au niveau des précisions sur ce Scarabee.
« Offrant une ergonomie collaborative et un confort maximal », on comprend que le Scarabee sera sobre en énergie grâce à une « gestion innovante ». Pouvant emporter une « charge utile exceptionnelle », souligne ARQUUS, il sera « doté d’une puissance de feu puissante et moderne. » Enfin, souligne-t-il, il sera « un acteur essentiel du combat collaboratif » et sa maintenance simplifiée « le rendra optimal pour les opérations à l’étranger » [c’est à dire qu’il aura une faible « empreinte logistique, ndlr].
« Nous engageons un processus nouveau pour des systèmes assez complexes, comme le VBAE ou le futur Engin principal du génie, pour lesquels le besoin n’est pas encore complètement défini », a récemment expliqué le général Charles Beaudouin, chargé des plans et des programmes au sein de son état-major [EMAT], lors d’une récente audition à l’Assemblée nationale. Et d’ajouter : « Au lieu de définir un besoin, de réfléchir aux spécifications et d’appeler ensuite l’industriel, nous voulons discuter d’emblée avec la DGA et l’industriel. » Visiblement, Thales et ARQUUS sont impatients d’ouvrir le dialogue.

Finland’s Patria is continuing the testing of its NEMO Container solution, with sea trials expected to take place in September.
A company official confirmed that the test firings of the NEMO Container system from a ship are expected to take place in Sweden in September, as part of a testing programme that began last year.
Previous tests have seen the 120 mm mortar fired at maximum charge from both the demounted and stationary truck-mounted positions. The company will also conduct an internal test for firing the system from the truck while on the move in August.
Patria is aiming for the ship-mounted tests to be the last for the NEMO Container system, which will then potentially lead on to a final contract and delivery in early 2019. The NEMO Container has been developed in association with the UAE Navy, with Patria also hoping that the system will be of interest to potential customers in Scandinavia.
The NEMO Container features a single-barrel 120 mm mortar in a turret that is then mounted on a standard-sized 20 ft ISO container, which allows for increased flexibility in the transportation and mounting of the system on maritime platforms.
The system weighs 10 tonnes when empty and has the capacity to carry 100 mortar bombs. It is crewed by three – two loaders and a gunner, with the latter doubling as the commander. The mortar elevates from –3° to +85° and can engage targets up to 10 km away. The system has a rate of fire of up to 10 rds/min, and has the capability to undertake direct and indirect fire missions as well as to perform multiple-round simultaneous-impact fires.

Lockheed Martin is expecting to receive a Request for Proposals (RFP) from the German government in the next week for the Tactical Air Defence System (Taktische Luftverteidigungssystem: TLVS) requirement for the German armed forces.
Speaking to Jane’s at Eurosatory, Lockheed Martin’s Executive Vice President for Missiles and Fire Control, Frank St John, said that the company’s joint venture with MBDA Deutschland will take the lead in responding to the RFP.
“The threat environment has changed since the MEADS programme first came to Germany,” St John said. “We have been working closely with the German government over the past year, helping them to shape the TLVS requirement.”
“The German government went through a very extensive process of determining [the requirement] based on the MEADS development, the investments the Germans had made in MEADS, as well as the primary goal that MBDA Germany had played in the programme, that it would be a sole-source programme,” St John added.
The company is aiming to respond to the proposal by the end of 2018, and hopes to secure a contract in early 2019.
St John noted that the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) forms the technical foundation for the TLVS bid, with Diehl’s IRIS-T SL medium-range interceptor acting as the effector for the system.
Despite this, there are some pieces of the system that the US government has to authorise for export that remain under Lockheed Martin’s control, but the German government has started that engagement in parallel with the RFP process to ensure that the system can be delivered according to the broader programme schedules.
MEADS is designed to provide a 360-degree field of fire, as well as the ability to meet a range of targets that include cruise and tactical ballistic missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and aircraft. MEADS also has an open architecture system that allows for simpler integration and lower-cost modification by operators.

Finland’s Patria has completed initial trials of its latest wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC), which is currently known as the Patria 6x6.
The new APC, which was unveiled at Eurosatory 2018, has a gross vehicle weight of 24,000 kg, of which 8,500 kg is the maximum payload including the armour package, weapon, crew, and fuel.
According to Patria it can be fitted with a range of weapons including the company’s AMOS 120 mm turreted mortar system, which is in service with the Finnish Defence Forces on its larger 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV).
The first example of the Patria 6x6 is fitted with a protected weapon station armed with a .50 M2 HB machine gun (MG), and a 5.56 mm or 7.62 mm MG can be pintle mounted on the roof of the rear troop compartment.
The vehicle is powered by a five-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine developing 294 kW, coupled to an automatic transmission with seven forward and two reverse gears, which gives a maximum road speed of 100 km/h and an operating range on roads of up to 700 km.
The vehicle is being marketed with two types of suspension system: one being the independent type with double wishbone on each axle; and the second a conventional spring suspension with optional hydropneumatic hydrostrut.
The brakes are compressed air hydraulic disc brakes with an anti-skid braking system as standard.
Steering is power assisted on the front four wheels with optional rear wheel steering, which is useful for operation in confined spaces.
The hull is all-welded steel armour with an appliqué modular armour package that can provide a maximum protection level up to STANAG 4569 Level 4 with a high level of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices.

Turkey’s FNSS Savunma Sistemleri armoured vehicle manufacturer unveiled one of the two prototypes of the new PARS 4×4 Anti-Tank Vehicle developed for ATV Project at Eurosatory 2018 in Paris.
Developed by FNSS to meet the needs of Turkish Land Forces Command, the PARS 4×4 Anti-Tank Vehicle (ATV) makes its first world appearance at Eurosatory 2018, where is being displayed at the FNSS stand, giving visitors to the event the opportunity to inspect up close a fully mission-equipped vehicle. The two prototypes, produced as part of the ATV project, will spend the coming months undergoing qualification tests once the manufacturer’s verification tests have been completed.
The Turkish ATV programme will see the delivery of 76 wheeled PARS ATV 4×4 platform. First deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2019, with all deliveries completed by 2021. However, the new anti-tank missile system already attracted plenty of interest from experts and a number of potential customers.
The PARS 4×4 ATV has been devised as a vehicle that offers both speed and high manoeuvrability under all terrain conditions, with sufficient firepower to destroy enemy tanks and other armoured units from a distance, and with the ability to engage second targets following a rapid change of position. Drawing upon its vast experience and innovative approach, FNSS has come up with a very special amphibious vehicle that is capable of meeting these challenging requirements simultaneously.
Most noteworthy among the PARS 4×4 ATV’s features is the positioning of its power pack at the rear of the vehicle. With the placement of cooling grate and exhaust on the upper body, this positioning allows the vehicle to go amphibious without prior preparation, thus granting it the best amphibious capabilities in its class and further allows the PARS 4×4 to manoeuvre at higher speeds. All these features, which can only be expected from a vehicle with a rear-positioned power pack, grants the PARS 4×4 with critical capabilities in moving away rapidly after launching an attack.
The outstanding capabilities of the PARS 4×4 ATV can be listed as follows: ◾Mobility: The PARS 4×4 features an axle and steering system that is designed to give the vehicle a small turning radius, while the long suspension movement range enhances the vehicle’s performance over rough terrain. Although the PARS 4×4 is an amphibious vehicle, no concessions have been made in the vehicle’s ballistic or mine protection levels. ◾Situational Awareness: The rear positioning of the power pack gives the driver a wide field of vision, while the integrated camera system provides the driver with full forward and rear situational awareness. ◾Survivability: The PARS 4×4 has been designed with superior ballistic and mine protection, and uses special armour material that ensure weight optimisation. The rear positioning of the power pack also helps reduce the vehicle’s thermal signature. ◾Weapon System: The PARS 4×4 is armed with an unmanned, remote-controlled anti-tank turret, also of FNSS design. In addition to ballistic protection, the turret also has two anti-tank missiles and a 7.62 mm machine gun. The turret recently performed its first firing test with the anti-tank missile, during which it successfully hit its target at maximum range.
Nail Kurt, General Manager and CEO of FNSS, said that the PARS 4×4 marks the beginning of a new era in anti-tank vehicles: “FNSS closely follows both developments and user requirements around the world, and as a result of these efforts, we came up with the PARS 4×4 concept that we presented for the first time at IDEF 2017. Following the signing of our contract with the user, we readied this concept, along with its turret, for qualification tests, completely from scratch. This has allowed us to roll out a vehicle that is peerless in the world. The PARS 4×4 stands as yet further evidence of FNSS’ engineering strength and tailored capabilities. With the introduction of the PARS 4×4 into the inventory, we are certain that it will become a force multiplier that changes all the equations, first for Turkish Land Forces Command, and later, for friendly and allied nations.”
Launched by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) and conducted with FNSS as the prime contractor, the Anti-Tank Vehicles (ATV) project covers the development, qualification and delivery of a total of 260 vehicles that include the tracked KAPLAN-ATV and wheeled PARS 4×4 ATV platforms.
The project contract was signed on June 27, 2016, and entered into effect on October 14, 2016.
As envisaged in the project plan, the detailed design of the vehicles was examined and approved by the SSM and Land Forces Command on the 15th month of the project schedule. In the classical project methodology, this milestone also corresponds to the start of production activities. In addition to the detailed design, FNSS also manufactured the first KAPLAN-ATV prototype, and presented the Remote Controlled Anti-Tank Turret (RCAT), which is at the heart of the vehicle’s primary striking power, to users in order to obtain feedback prior to commencing factory tests. The 15-month development period for the prototype is impressive in terms of its shortness when compared to recent similar projects, and could in fact be considered unprecedented.

AM General has unveiled the latest version of its 4×4 light tactical vehicle at Eurosatory 2018 exhibition, in Parish.
AM General took the opportunity at the Eurosatory to showcase its next-generation light tactical vehicle, called the NXT 360.
“Eurosatory is a great venue that will allow our global customers to get a first look at this versatile truck that can enhance their light tactical wheeled fleet in a timely and cost-efficient manner,” said Andy Hove, AM General President and CEO.
The company said the tactical vehicle will have increased survivability, off-road mobility and payload capacity. The vehicle includes increased kinetic energy threat protection and blast protection for the wheels, said Regis Luther, company vice president for engineering. AM General also added blast seats and blast mats and boosted the transparent armor to a B7 ballistic protection level.

Much like many of the unique product variants that are offered by AM General, the NXT 360 can be delivered as complete new vehicle that can be incorporated into new missions, or as an upgrade kit that can be integrated into existing vehicle fleets to gain the same advanced capabilities.
According to the company, the new vehicle is powered by a P400 turbocharged engine, with 250 horsepower, multi-fuel capability and 6-speed transmission, he said. Those improvements have helped to increase the vehicle’s fuel economy and raise the top speed, offering a smoother gear transition and reducing the interior noise level, he noted.
GDELS unveiled new variants of the ASCOD family of tracked vehicles at Eurosatory 2018

The new combat vehicles are being presented by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) at Eurosatory 2018, being held in Paris on 11-15 June.
GDELS presented new variants of the ASCOD family of tracked vehicles, including ASCOD Medium Main Battle Tank (MMBT) and ASCOD Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) at Eurosatory 2018. According to the company, both ASCOD vehicles have been developed using General Dynamics European Land Systems’ new “Common Base Platform Design” (CBP) with modular capability and open vehicle architecture with three power-pack solutions between 530, 600 and 800kW, either steel tracks or rubber bands and multiple configurations up to the crew of three plus 8 dismounts.
The Medium Main Battle Tank (MMBT) is based on a modified chassis of the ASCOD multi-purpose vehicle platform. With a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 42 tons, it is fitted with a modern Leonardo’s 120mm HITFACT system ( which includes gunner self-stabilised day and night IR thermal cameras ), armed with a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun.
The 120mm smoothbore gun fires standard NATO ammunition and is coupled to a computerised fire control system giving the commander and gunner stabilised day/thermal sights incorporating a laser rangefinder.
The Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) also is based on a modified chassis of the ASCOD multi-purpose vehicle platform but is fitted with an Elbit Systems’ UT30MK2 unmanned turret including a 30mm dual feed cannon, 7.62mm co-axial MG, a pod of two anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), a Hard Kill Active Defence System and an advanced 360 degree sight system for increased situational awareness.
The gross vehicle weight of 35 tons and vehicle has increased volume for the rear troop compartment.
