RJAF acquires Bell 505
On 1 November 2022, al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Malakiya al-Urduniya (RJAF, Royal Jordanian Air Force) Commander Brigadier General Mohammad F. Hiyasat signed an agreement for acquiring ten Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopters for the RJAF.
Next to the delivery of the helicopters, the contract includes the delivery of a flight training device and a computer-based training package to enable basic and advanced rotorcraft flight training at the King Hussein Air College (KHAC) in Mafraq, Jordan.
The Jet Ranger Xs will replace the existing fleet of eleven Robinson R44-II Raven helicopters which the RJAF procured in three batches between late 2014 (4), early 2015 (4) and late 2015/early 2016 (3).
The Raven II is powered by a Lycoming’s IO-540 fuel-injected 245 hp (183 kW) engine and this was one of the reasons the RJAF had been seeking a replacement: it was deemed underpowered in the hot Jordanian climate. The Robinson R44s did not prepare the pilots well for the transition to the AS332M1 Super Puma, EC635T1, MD530FF, AH-1F Super Cobra, UH-60A/L/M Black Hawk and Mil Mi-26T2.
The Bell 505, powered by 1× Safran Arrius 2R turboshaft, 505 shp (377 kW), will be operated by the Flight Instructor School and 5 Squadron, both part of the King Hussein Air College.

Royal Jordanian Air Force receives first of 10 Bell 505 helicopters
The Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) has taken delivery of the initial batch of Bell 505 helicopters from Bell Textron, with a total of 10 helicopters set to be delivered. The purchase agreement, inked in July 2022, encompasses not only the aircraft but also includes a flight training device and an extensive computer-based training package. These resources will be instrumental in supporting both basic and advanced rotorcraft flight training at the King Hussein Air College in Mafraq, Jordan.

First RJAF Bell 505 pictures
On 17 November 2023, Scramble Magazine first reported on the delivery of five Bell 505 Jet Ranger X light helicopters to the al-Quwwat al-Jawwiya al-Malakiya al-Urduniya (RJAF, Royal Jordanian Air Force)
Now, the first visual confirmation of this delivery have surfaced and we want to share that with you, of course because they look stunning! The RJAF signed a purchase agreement for ten Bell 505 helicopters on 6 July 2022.
The new addition to the RJAF sports a beautiful deep red with black/white/green striping over the fuselage, representing the colours of the Jordanian flag and RJAF roundel.
The following Bell 505s, including their Canadian test registrations, are confirmed as delivered in November: 540 (c/n 65519, ex C-GHFI), 541 (c/n 65529, ex C-GSOZ), 542 (c/n 65531, ex C-FCUZ), 543 (c/n 65533, ex C-GLZA) and 544 (c/n 65535, ex C-FZGZ).
The new training helicopters are operated by 5 Squadron, part of the King Hussein Air College at Mafraq where they will replace the Robinson R44-II Raven.

Jordan places new F-16s under contract
by Gareth Jennings
With older F-16s (pictured) already in service, Jordan is now to receive the latest Block 70 aircraft. (Janes/Patrick Allen)
Jordan has signed for new F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft, with Lockheed Martin telling Janes that the previous letter of acceptance (LOA) has now been firmed up into a contract.
With Jordan signing its LOA for eight Block 70/72 aircraft in June 2022, Lockheed Martin said on 11 January that this had now become a contract for 12 Block 70 aircraft (the Block 70 is powered by the General Electric F100-GE-129D engine rather than the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW229EEP engine of the Block 72).
While the original February 2022 US State Department approval was for 12 single-seat F-16Cs and four twin-seat F-16Ds, Lockheed Martin did not break down the split of the 12 contracted F-16C/D aircraft.
The F-16 is the core of Jordan's combat aviation capabilities, having received its first second-hand aircraft from the United States in 1997. As noted by Janes World Air Forces , the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) fields 43 F-16A and 18 F-16B Fighting Falcons.
Over recent years, the RJAF has been upgrading its aircraft with the addition of the Link 16 datalink, Lockheed Martin AN/AAQ‐33 Sniper Advanced Targeting Pods, and DB‐110 reconnaissance pods. In February 2021 the US government approved the founding of an F-16 Air Combat Training Center (ACTC) in Jordan.
