| les IFF des F 16 Turcs ne sont plus jew friendly - Citation :
- Report: Israel no longer ‘friend' for Turkey's F-16s, warships
Turkey's Military Electronics Industry (ASELSAN) has produced a new identification friend or foe (IFF) system for Turkish jet fighters, warships and submarines and the new software, contrary to the older, US-made version, does not automatically identify Israeli planes and ships as friends, a news report said on Tuesday.
The new IFF has already been installed in Turkish F-16s and is expected to be installed in all Navy ships and submarines, the report, published in Turkish daily Star, said. It will be fully operational when it is installed in all military planes, warships and submarines.
The F-16 jet fighters, purchased from the US, came with pre-installed IFF software that automatically identifies Israeli fighters and warships as friends, disabling Turkish F-16s from targeting Israeli planes or ships. ASELSAN-made IFF will allow Turkish military commanders to identify friends and foes on the basis of national considerations.
Turkey was unable to make modifications to the friend or foe identification codes in US-made F-16s, while Israel was given a different version of the software allowing Israeli authorities to make modifications. Israel was also authorized to view the version given to Turkey, according to Star.
The report comes amid a severe crisis in ties with former ally Israel. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan set the stage for a possible naval confrontation with Israel in the Eastern Mediterranean, saying last week that Turkish military ships will escort civilian ships carrying aid to Gaza, under an Israeli blockade since 2007.
A news report on Monday said three frigates were to be sent to the Eastern Mediterranean to protect aid ships from a possible interception by Israeli warships. The frigates, according to the report, will get as close as 100 meter to any Israeli military ship if those ships are outside of Israeli territorial waters.
Star also suggested that the new IFF system could be linked to a series of suspicious suicides in ASELSAN. Three ASELSAN engineers committed suicide in 2006 and 2007, but the media speculated that the engineers might have been murdered given the families' testimonies that the suicides seem to come out of the blue with no warning signs. The report added that all three engineers had worked on the new IFF system to be used for F-16 fighters.

- Controversy
In mid-2006, three young Turkish aviation engineers working for Aselsan company managed to reverse engineer the IFF (identification friend or foe) system for the F-16 fighter plane. The United States has previously refused to hand over these top secret codes to Turkey, leaving the Turkish Air Force unable to discern between Greek and Turkish F-16 fighter planes, which frequently meet and sometimes skirmish over disputed Aegean Sea areas. As a side effect of the successful hacking of IFF codes, the Turkish air defence is now also able to identify Israeli F-16 planes, which have violated Turkish airspace while attacking targets in northern Syria (e.g. Operation Orchard).
Of the three engineers Huseyin Basbilen died violently in August 2006, Ali Insem Unal and Evrim Yangecen also died violently in January 2007. Officially their deaths were ruled suicide, but in November 2007 Turkish journalist elder and Milliyet editor-in-chief Guneri Civaoglu disclosed in the Hurriyet daily paper that all three of them were in fact assassinated and publicly revealed their leading roles in the F-16 IFF reverse engineering project. http://everything.explained.at/Aselsan/ _________________ Kadhafi a quitté la Libye, sans dire au revoir. Lockheed Martin says two nations are close to ordering F-16s
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is close to landing a pair of orders for new F-16 fighter jets that would extend the life of the Fort Worth production line beyond 2013.
Ralph Heath, president of the aeronautics division, said Wednesday that the company is "on the cusp" of finalizing deals for new F-16s.
"We could be building F-16s for another five years," Heath said in his presentation at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce's Leaders in Business luncheon at the Fort Worth Club.
After the meeting, Health told reporters that Lockheed is "hopeful Iraq and Oman will be done petty soon." The two Middle Eastern nations have been considered the most likely candidates to order F-16s.
A senior U.S. military officer, speaking to reporters in Washington, said Wednesday that Iraq is "very close" to signing a letter of intent to buy F-16s. "We are hearing encouraging words," said Maj. Gen. Russ Handy, the Air Force's top general in Iraq. Handy said Iraq would buy 18 aircraft with the potential to order 18 more.
Lockheed officials have been saying for months that they need to lock in new F-16 orders soon. The current backlog of fewer than 60 jets will be built by the end of 2013, and Lockheed officials have said they and F-16 suppliers will have to begin shutting down production lines by the end of this year without additional orders. About 2,000 Lockheed workers in Fort Worth are involved with the F-16 program.
Handy said the U.S. is awaiting signature of a formal "letter of offer and acceptance" from the Iraqi government, agreeing to buy a specified number of aircraft, the cost and payment schedule.
As important as additional F-16 orders are, Lockheed and Fort Worth's future economic prosperity are tied to the F-35 joint strike fighter in development, Heath said.
"In the next year, we'll build more F-35s than F-16s," Heath said.
The F-35 program has become the target of many defense spending critics because it is far behind its original development schedule and has been plagued with soaring costs. The Pentagon has said it needs $1.1 billion to pay for cost overruns on the first 31 planes.
But rapid progress is now being made, Heath said. By the end of next year, he added, all of the critical technical issues will have been tested and any new problems resolved.
"We're progressing well. We're ahead of the flight test plan for this year," Heath said. The best way for the government to bring costs down, he said, is to begin ordering and building more airplanes.
But Lockheed's desire for the government to increase F-35 production rates may be hindered by experience, which shows that problems can crop up well into the flight test program.
Flight testing continues to go well, the Pentagon's Joint Program Office confirmed, despite having been suspended three times this year because of newly discovered technical problems, which is the purpose of the testing.
As of this week, 620 of the 645 test flights planned for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30 have been completed, bringing the total to about 1,200. That means about 80 percent of planned test flights remain to be performed, and full testing isn't due to be completed until 2016.
"There is much testing ahead. There is a long road ahead," said Joe DellaVedova, spokesman for the program office in Washington. "We're pleased with the progress. It leads to a belief in the soundness of the basic design." Meanwhile, the budget crunch in Washington could further crimp the program. The Senate Defense Appropriations subcommittee voted Tuesday to cut $695 million from the Pentagon's 2012 F-35 funding request.

- DUBAI: Lockheed sees F-16 demand beyond 2015
By: Stephen Trimble Dubai 1 hours ago Source:flightglobal
Lockheed Martin has a new forecast predicting demand for more than 100 F-16s beyond 2015, when the last aircraft is scheduled for delivery, said Ana Wugofski, vice-president of international business development. The F-16 is being reviewed by Oman in the Middle East, and Lockheed's radar supplier - Northrop Grumman - expects the UAE to sign a follow-on order for F-16 Block 60s. Meanwhile, Lockheed is also upgrading its new and old F-16s with new weapons, sensors and communications systems, which will likely continue. "I don't see an end to that in my career," Wugofski said. _________________ | |
