Paveway

Paveway est un type de bombe d'origine américaine guidée par laser. Elle constitue une grande partie de l’armement Air-Sol des forces aériennes des États-Unis et a été largement exportée.

Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale il fallait 9000 bombes pour toucher une cible de la taille d'un abri pour avion. Au Vietnam, 300. Aujourd'hui nous pouvons le faire avec une munition guidée par laser tirée depuis un F-117. (USAF, Reaching Globally, Reaching Powerfully: The United States Air Force in the Gulf War.

Histoire et Principe
Au début de la guerre du Viêt Nam, de nombreux raids d'avions équipés de bombes lisses classiques tentèrent de détruire un pont. Vu d'avion, un pont est une petite cible souvent bien défendue et très solide. Après des pertes, et des dizaines de bombes larguées, on adapta une tête de guidage laser et des ailettes de contrôle à l'avant de la bombe, et un empennage permettant à celle-ci de planer afin de ne pas trop exposer l'avion tireur. Les résultats des premiers essais étaient si bons qu'en 1968, la Paveway entrait en service. L'avion tireur (à l'époque un F-4 Phantom II) emporte également un POD d'illumination laser avec lequel il désigne la cible à la bombe. Celle-ci suit alors la trajectoire pour toucher l'objectif.

Cette version spéciale est appelée « bunker buster ». Développée en hâte (en 28 jours seulement !) lors de la Guerre du Golfe, son corps est dérivé d’un fût de canon d'artillerie. C’est donc avant tout une grosse masse métallique qui, avec son énergie cinétique, est capable de pénétrer jusqu’à 30 m sous terre avant d’exploser.

La charge de la bombe comprend 286 kg (630 lb) d’un explosif puissant ; la nature du reste de la charge est classifiée, mais est soupçonnée d’être principalement constituée d’uranium appauvri. Elle est muni d'un pénétrateur BLU-113

Lockheed Martin’s Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb Successful in Series of Flight Tests

ARCHBALD, PA, March 24th, 2010 -- Lockheed Martin’s [NYSE: LMT] Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb successfully completed a series of six flight tests March 3 at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. The Paveway II Plus LGB uses an enhanced laser guidance package, significantly improving precision when compared to existing Paveway II LGBs.

The Paveway II Plus systems were launched from altitudes ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 feet against a 24’ x 24’ billboard target angled at 45 degrees. Two GBU-10s and four GBU-12s equipped with MAU-209C/B computer control groups were released from a pair of F-16D Viper aircraft from Eglin’s 40th Flight Test Squadron. Each successfully initiated laser acquisition at the expected time and guided to the intended target.

“These tests demonstrated both the precision performance and consistency of the Paveway II Plus system,” said Joe Serra, senior manager for Precision Guided Systems at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “Our team took on the challenge presented by these tests and the system performed flawlessly. The new computer control group performed exactly as designed and guided the weapons to their targets with pinpoint accuracy.”

Lockheed Martin is a qualified provider of the Paveway II LGB, of all three variants of the Paveway II MK-80 series LGBs, and is the sole provider of the Paveway II Enhanced Laser Guided Training Round and Dual Mode Laser Guided Bomb.

Paveway II LGB guidance kits improve weapon accuracy and reduce risk to U.S. and allied ground forces by converting gravity weapons into precision-guided munitions. Each kit consists of a computer control group, which is the front-end guidance system, plus an air foil group which adds stability fins on the back of each weapon.

Lockheed Martin’s LGB kits can be carried on U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and most international aircraft platforms currently authorized to carry and release LGBs. Kits are fully compatible and interoperable with existing Paveway II LGB logistics infrastructure, equipment, procedures and aircrew operations.

Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 55,000 LGB kits to the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and international customers. Laser-guided bombs have been used successfully in Operation Iraqi Freedom and current overseas contingency operations.

le pak avec la catastrophe,je comprend bien qu´ils veuillent cacher les contrats au moment ou les telethon rassemblent l´argent pour eux.

The GBU-50 provides the 2,000-pound MK-84 or the BLU-109 penetrator with all-weather GPS navigation combined with precision terminal laser guidance. A full range of selectable terminal impact angles combined with a mature combat-proven, height-of-burst maximizes the capabilities of both the MK-84 and BLU-109.

"As we begin our second production run of the GBU-50, we have substantial interest from the international community."

Each Enhanced Paveway™ II guidance and control section is compatible with warheads ranging from the 250-pound MK-81 to the 2,000-pound MK-84 along with the BLU-109. There is no need for the warfighter to acquire a different guidance and control section for different warhead use.
