"Cette année, nous projetons de livrer 17 bâtiments de guerre aux forces navales russes et aux clients étrangers, y compris des SNLE et des bâtiments de surface", a-t-il déclaré lors du Salon international de la défense maritime (IMDS-2011) qui se déroule du 29 juin au 2 juillet à Saint-Pétersbourg.

M. Trotsenko a précisé que la Marine russe recevrait deux sous-marins nucléaires, mais a refusé de citer leurs noms.

Une source bien informée au sein du complexe militaro-industriel a confié à RIA Novosti qu'il s'agissait du sous-marin stratégique Iouri Dolgorouki (utilisé mardi pour un test du missile balistique intercontinental Boulava) et du sous-marin nucléaire à fonctions multiples Severodvinsk.

Selon M. Trotsenko, l'OSK construit actuellement 54 navires, dont 40 pour les forces navales russes et 14 pour des pays étrangers.

Russian Helicopters has received 5 billion rubles ($160 mln) from the federal budget for the development of three types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).

After charging that smaller domestic developers wasted public funds - and pointedly purchasing Israeli drones for military trials - the Defense Ministry has switched to a big holding with sufficient capacity to develop and produce indigenous UAVs.

According to the Gazeta.ru portal, the company has been contracted by the Russian Defense Ministry to develop light-, medium-, and heavy-weight rotary UAVs for reconnaissance, strike and transportation purposes.

A prototype of a short-range drone, Ka-135, with carrying capacity of up to 100 kg, must be developed by 2015.

A heavy-weight UAV, dubbed Albatros, is expected to be developed by 2017. It can be used as a strike or transport drone.

The most recent contract envisions the development of a medium-weight UAV with operational range of up to 300 km.

If successful, Russian Helicopters may receive additional funding in the future to develop two more types of UAVs to be delivered to the military and police.

Aviastar SP, one of Russia's largest aircraft-building enterprises, is to build 10 super-heavy Antonov An-124 and dozens of Ilyushin Il-476 cargo aircraft by 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Friday at a meeting of the United Aircraft Corporation on military aviation.

"There is a large fleet of Ruslan (An-124) aircraft which will be modernized and refitted by 2020 and also ten new aircraft will be built," said Rogozin, who has responsibility for defense matters and the military-industrial complex.

The Aviastar plant will also produce "dozens" of Il-476 transports, he said.

The Il-476 is an extensively modified variant of the Il-76 freighter, with new engines, reinforced wing, modernized cockpit, and heavier payload. The aircraft will be built for the Russian armed forces and Emergencies Ministry, Aviastar told RIA Novosti last August at the MAKS airshow in Moscow.

No contract has yet been signed by the Air Force with Aviastar, Aviation Week reported in December.

The first Il-476 prototype is due to be rolled out at Aviastar in February and fly soon after.

More than 30 MiG-31 Foxhound supersonic interceptor aircraft are on round-the-clock high-alert duty every day protecting the Russian airspace from airborne threats, Air Force spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said.

“They [the MiG-31s] scramble every time they receive warnings of a potential violation of the Russian airspace, including the appearance of foreign weather balloons in the stratosphere,”Drik said on Saturday .

The official said the MiG-31s are usually accompanied by highly-maneuverable Su-27 Flanker fighter jets, which provide protection for heavy interceptors.

MiG-31 interceptors are an integral part of a comprehensive aerospace defense network being created in Russia to thwart any potential airborne threats, including ballistic and cruise missiles.

According to various sources, about 500 MiG-31s have been produced since serial production began in 1978, approximately 370 of which remain in service with the Russian Air Force.

Russia plans to upgrade more than 60 MiG-31 interceptors to the MiG-31BM version by 2020.

The modernized version is fitted with upgraded avionics and digital data links, a new multimode radar, color multi-function cockpit displays, and a more powerful weapons-control system. It can detect airborne targets at the range of 320 kilometers (200 miles) and simultaneously track up to 10 targets.

The Russian Air Force will receive over 30 Vityaz and 100 Pantsir-S air defense systems by 2020, spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said on Monday.

“We are planning to acquire by 2020 more than 100 short-range Pantsir-S and over 30 mid-range Vityaz systems to rearm air defense units,” Drik said.

Pantsir-S is a short-to-medium range combined surface-to-air missile and antiaircraft artillery system designed to protect point and area targets.

It carries up to 12 two-stage solid-fuel surface-to-air missiles in sealed ready-to-launch containers and has two dual 30 mm automatic cannons that can engage targets at a range of up to 4 km.

The Vityaz is expected to replace the outdated S-300PS systems, whose service life is coming to an end in the next two years.

The Vityaz will complement the Morfey, the S-400 and the S-500 air defense systems in the future aerospace defense network to engage targets at ranges from five to 400 kilometers, and at altitudes from five meters to near space.

Citation :: Russian Army Buys Cutting-Edge Mine Detectors

The Russian Defense Ministry has begun buying a new mine-detection device able to spot inactivated mines, hidden underground or inside buildings, Southern Military District spokesman Colonel Igor Gorbul said on Monday.

The Korshun (Hawk) mobile mine detector, which only weighs 5 kg, is capable of detecting mines containing radio-electronic components and explosives at a distance, and can operate in temperatures down to minus 50 degrees Celsius (minus 58 degrees Fahrenheit), the ministry official said.

The ministry has already bought over 100 Korshun locators for infantry units in Russia's southern Stavropol and Volgograd regions and military bases in Armenia, Ukraine, South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Gorbul said.

Russia’s volatile North Caucasus republics are one of the most heavily mined Russian regions.

In October 2011 Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov said over 2, 000 people, including 150 children, had been killed by mines in Chechnya, but did not say since when.

Véhicules blindés Iveco

La Russie et l'Italie ont signé en décembre dernier un contrat prévoyant la construction conjointe de 60 véhicules blindés Iveco à Voronej (450 km au sud de Moscou), a annoncé mardi aux journalistes le premier vice-ministre russe de la Défense, Alexandre Soukhoroukov.

Selon le vice-ministre, l'entreprise de Voronej n'assemblera que les coques des véhicules, sans les doter d'armements.

La décision d'équiper les forces armées russes de blindés italiens date d'il y a plus d'un an. En août 2010, le conglomérat public russe Rostekhnologuii a engagé des négociations avec le groupe Iveco sur la mise en place d'une production de véhicules blindés de cette marque en Russie. Début décembre de la même année, Moscou et Rome ont convenu que la Russie achèterait dix véhicules polyvalents Lince (Lynx).

Citation :: Russian Air Force Tests New Air-to-Air Missile

The Russian Air Force is testing and will soon deploy an advanced tactical air-to-air missile that will greatly enhance its operational effectiveness, the service's commander Col Gen Alexander Zelin said on Tuesday.

The missile will be carried by MiG-31BM Foxhound supersonic interceptors/fighters and will subsequently be used by other warplanes, he said.

The weapon is “currently in trial at an Air Force test site,” Zelin said.

Zelin did not identify the missile but experts believe it could be the K-37M, also known as RVV-BD, or AA-X-13 Arrow as it is known to NATO.

The K-37M is a long-range air-to-air missile developed specifically for the MiG-31BM interceptor.

“A likely candidate is the Vympel (now part of TRV) K-37M long-range air-to-air missile. This is a successor to the R-33 (Nato codename AA-9 Amos) which was developed originally for the MiG-31 during the early 1970s,” said Douglas Barrie, an air warfare expert at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Work on the K-37 program began during the 1980s, but funding problems delayed its completion, he added. The design has also been further developed since its original conception.

The K-prefix denotes a weapon in development while the M indicates a modification. An export variant of the weapon, known as RVV-BD, was shown at MAKS 2011. The BD suffix may stand for the Russian words bolshoi dalnost, or long range.

“The K-37M - it will likely be known as the R-37M when it enters service - will be the primary air-to-air armament of the MiG-31BM, providing the Russian air force with an extended range interception capability against combat aircraft and cruise missiles,” Barrie said.

According to KTRV, the Kh-35UE tactical anti-ship missile has a maximum range of 260 kilometers; the supersonic Kh-31PD anti-radiation missile for use against air defense systems, can fly up to 250 kilometers; the Kh-58UShKE missile, designed to destroy pulse radars, can hit targets within 245 kilometers, and the short-range RVV-MD air-to-air missile has a maximum range of 40 kilometers.

The T-50, developed under the PAK FA (Future Aviation System for Tactical Air Force) program by the Sukhoi OKB, is Russia's first new major warplane designed since the fall of the Soviet Union. The jet made its maiden flight in January 2011 and two prototypes have since been undergoing flight tests.

About 30 Tu-22M3 strategic bombers from Russia's Long Range Aviation fleet will be modernized by 2020, Russian Air Force spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said on Tuesday.

"We plan to upgrade about 30 strategic bombers to the M3M standard,” Drik said.

Tu-22M3 (NATO reporting name Backfire-C) is a supersonic, swing-wing, long-range strategic bomber that Russia uses mainly to patrol the skies over its southern borders, Central Asia and the Black Sea region.

The Tu-22M3 has a flight range of 6,800 km (4,300 miles) and can carry a 24,000 kg (52,910 lb) payload, including nuclear bombs and cruise missiles fitted with nuclear or conventional warheads. Aircraft of the M3M standard can be equipped with a wider range of weapons.

As of 2008, the Russian Air Force had at least 141 Tu-22M3 bombers in service.

Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev, commander of Long Range Aviation, earlier said that Russia's strategic aviation fleet will undergo extensive modernization while Russia’s next generation strategic bomber, the PAK DA, is being developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau.

He said the modernized aircraft will be equipped with new equipment, communications systems, cockpits and avionics.

Les deux premiers bâtiments de projection et de commandement (BPC) Mistral construits pour la Russie seront baptisés "Vladivostok" et "Sébastopol", a annoncé mercredi à Saint-Pétersbourg le commandant en chef de la Marine russe Vladimir Vyssotski.
"Le 1er février, le premier navire de type Mistral a été mis en cale sèche aux chantiers navals de Saint-Nazaire, en France. Les Français appellent cet événement 'découpe de la première tôle du navire'", a indiqué l'amiral Vyssotski.

Le navire sera remis à la Marine russe dans 36 mois, a noté l'amiral sans toutefois préciser quelle flotte russe serait équipée du premier BPC de fabrication française.

Le ministre russe de la Défense Alexandre Serdioukov avait antérieurement annoncé que le premier BPC Mistral serait remis à la flotte du Pacifique.

Le commandant en chef de la Marine a qualifié d'erronées les informations selon lesquelles le Mistral serait un porte-hélicoptères ou un navire-hôpital. "C'est un bâtiment de projection et de commandement", a souligné l'amiral.

D'une longueur de 199 mètres, d'un déplacement de 22.000 tonnes et d'une vitesse supérieure à 18 nœuds, le BPC Mistral est capable de porter six hélicoptères, quatre vedettes de débarquement ou deux navires sur coussin d'air de faible tonnage. La Russie envisage d'y déployer huit hélicoptères Ka-52K et huit Ka-29. Le navire peut embarquer, outre ses 160 membres d'équipage, un commando de 450 hommes.

Les deux premiers navires de cette classe destinés à la Marine russe seront construits en France pour 1,2 milliard d'euros. Aux termes d'un contrat signé en juin 2011 avec le groupe français DCNS, le premier navire sera livré en 2014 et le deuxième et 2015. Les coques des troisième et quatrième navires de type Mistral achetés par Moscou seront construits par l'usine russe Sevmach de Severodvinsk, dans le nord de la Russie.

La Russie sera capable de produire six sous-marins et un croiseur porte-avions par an dès 2013 , a annoncé jeudi à Severodvinsk (nord) le vice-premier ministre russe Dmitri Rogozine.

"Nos usines seront capables de produire six sous-marins (nucléaires ou diesel-électriques) et un croiseur porte-aéronefs par an", a indiqué M.Rogozine devant les journalistes.

Le potentiel de l'industrie de défense russe dépassera ainsi celui de l'industrie soviétique qui fabriquait cinq sous-marins par an, a conclu le vice-premier ministre.
