Après la Tunisie et l'Irak, des Gazelle françaises vont s'envoler pour le Niger. Il s'agit a priori de SA341F, des Gazelle canon qui vivent leurs dernières heures de vol dans l'ALAT conventionnelle.
C'est Aerotec, qui a déjà modernisé des Gazelle pour les deux précédents pays évoqués plus haut, ainsi qu'un appareil pour la Chine, qui a gagné ce contrat avec le Niger.

Le Niger a reçu des Masstech pour son bataillon spécial d'intervention de Dosso



Le Niger a reçu ce mercredi des mitrailleuses lourdes et des véhicules tout-terrain offerts par la France qui soutient ce pays sahélien régulièrement ciblé par des attaques jihadistes à combattre les groupes terroristes. L'annonce a été faite par le ministère nigérien de la Défense.

Vingt-huit pick-up militaires légers de type "Masstech" fabriqué par l'entreprise Technamm et 71 mitrailleuses lourdes de 12,7mm ont été reçus; ils sont sont destinés au bataillon spécial d'intervention situé à Dosso, dans le sud-ouest du Niger.

D'autres véhicules complèteront la dotation de cette unité; il s'agit de "Masstech" de commandement et d'appui logistique et d'ambulances.

MERSIN, Turkey — Niger has become the first foreign customer of the Hurkus trainer aircraft, produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries.


Turkey’s Directorate of Communications said Nov. 19 on its website that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke with his counterpart in Niger, Mohamed Bazoum, by phone about bilateral relations. “President Erdoğan stated that the TB2 drones, Hurkus aircraft, and armored vehicles that Niger would procure from Turkey would strengthen its military and security forces,” according to the directorate’s statement.

Temel Kotil, the head of TAI, first made mention of the Hurkus export during a TV interview on CNN Türk on Nov. 11, but he did not name the customer. Kotil said at the time that the company signed a contract for export, with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in six months.


Officials have not disclosed the quantity and exact variant associated with the order. However, Kotil said in an April interview that the company was very close to exporting 12 Hurkus-C aircraft.


“The sale of Hurkus marks Turkey’s first military aircraft export that was designed and manufactured entirely with domestic resources,” Mr Kotil said during the Nov. 11 interview.


Mehmet Cem Demirci, a Turkish political and security analyst, told Defense News that the export deal is important for Turkey because it shows the country can develop military aircraft that meet both national needs and foreign standards.


“Turkey has been in the foreground in armed drone exports in the recent years, but now we’re witnessing the sale of a manned aircraft. Furthermore, it is a competitive aircraft that was designed and engineered in Turkey,” Demirci said. “The Erdoğan administration seems to have prioritized African countries in its search for alternate markets. This is the second deal revealed following Erdoğan’s October visits to African states. Turkish Dearsan Shipyard has recently signed a contract with Nigeria to build two offshore patrol vessels.”


The analyst expects the Turkish government or local defense companies will announce more deals with African states in the following months.


The Hurkus is a tandem two-seat, low-wing, single-engine turboprop aircraft that was designed as a new-generation trainer as well as a platform for performing light-attack and armed reconnaissance combat missions.


The Hurkus-C is an armed variant that can be used for close-air support missions. It is fitted with a forward-looking infrared sensor and has a maximum weapons load of 3,300 pounds.
It’s able to take off and land on unprepared runways. The main advantage of the Hurkus-C is that it reduces the cost of air power, particularly in low-intensity conflict theaters where anti-air warfare threats are negligible.

According to information published by RFI on May 25, 2022, Niger receives six Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2, delivered to Niamey airport. This is the first part of an arms contract signed in November.

The Bayraktar is a medium altitude long endurance (MALE) unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) developed, designed, and manufactured by the Turkish Company Baykar.

The Bayraktar TB2 is capable of conducting Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and armed attack missions. The design of the Bayraktar consists of a monocoque fuselage integrating an inverse v-tail structure. The engine is positioned between the tail booms and fuel is stored in bladder tanks.

Made of carbon fiber, Kevlar, and hybrid composites, the Bayraktar TB2 has a length of 6.5m, a wingspan of 12m, and a maximum take-off weight of 630kg. It is powered by a sole 100hp Rotax 912 Internal Combustion Engine.

It has a range of more than 150 km and a top speed of 130 km/h. The Bayraktar TB2 can fire a wide range of weapons, such as the 22.5 kg Roketsan MAM-L Smart Munition or even the long-range anti-tank missile UMTAS.

Niger received two AB412 helicopters from Italy


As was announced on 18 October 2022, Italy has transferred two AgustaBell AB412HP helicopters to the Armée de l 'Air du Niger (FAN, Niger Air Force).

The FAN said a reception ceremony was held for the two helicopters at Air Base 101 in Niamey and that another two AB412s would follow.

The helicopters will be used by the air force for transporting troops and logistics, as well as medical evacuation. Photographs showed the two helicopters painted in the colours of Italy's Guardia di Finanza (GdiF) and fitted with fairings above their cabins for the radars used to detect maritime smugglers.

The Italian Ministry of Defence (MoD) released a statement saying the two helicopters that have been reconditioned by its Defence Industries Agency (AID) have been sold to Niger to increase its capacity to counter illegal trafficking and security threats.

The Italian Minister of Defence, Lorenzo Guerini, attended the handover ceremony and also visited Italian military personnel deployed as part of the Bilateral Support Mission in the Republic of Niger (MISIN), which began in 2018 and also covers support for Benin, Mauritania, and Nigeria.
