Development The Renault TRM 9000 (6 × 6) truck (formerly known as the Berliet GBD) uses many components, such as the cab, gearbox, transfer case and steering, of the earlier TRM 6000 (4 × 4) 6,000 kg truck.Production was undertaken at Vénissieux. First production vehicles were completed in 1975. The largest orders came from Algeria (500) and Morocco (1,500). Production is now complete.Further development of the TRM 9000 resulted in the TRM 10 000 (6 × 6) truck adopted by the French Army. Description The two-door forward control cab has a removable canvas roof, removable side screens and a windscreen that can be folded forward against the bonnet if required. The rear cargo area is fitted with drop sides and a drop tailgate, removable bows and a canvas cover. If required, seats can be fitted in the rear. Optional equipment included: a four-door, six- or seven-seat cab; fully enclosed two- or four-door cab; a winch with a capacity of 3,500/4,500 kg and 60 m of cable; different tyres; dual wheels on the rear axles; an additional 200 litre fuel tank; and an exhaust brake.Variants include: an artillery tractor able to tow 155 mm artillery weapons as well as carrying a gun crew and ammunition; a command/radio vehicle fitted with a container on the rear which could be fitted with communications equipment; a 6,000 litre water or fuel tanker; and a tipper with a two-man cab. The chassis has been used to mount Exocet or Otomat (for Egypt) anti-shipping missiles, as an RPV launching vehicle, and for supporting the Shahine anti-aircraft system supplied to Saudi Arabia; 38 vehicles were supplied to Saudi Arabia for this role. A recovery version known as the TRM 9000 CLD is fitted with a four-door cab. A tractor variant can tow a semi-trailer weighing a maximum of 27,000 kg; unladen weight is 15,000 kg.
