Air Force officials have confirmed a Shaw AFB F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot was killed April 3, after his aircraft crashed in Afghanistan returning to base from a close air support mission.
The pilot, Capt. James Steel, 29, from the 77th Fighter Squadron here, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2006, completed pilot training and arrived at Shaw in June 2010. He was the chief of mobility for the 77th FS.
The plane was on its final approach to land at Bagram Air Field after a routine air support mission around 11 p.m. when it lost contact with its wingman and the control tower, Air Force Central Command spokesperson Capt. Natassia Cherne said. It crashed 10 miles south of the runway.
"While the cause of the crash is under investigation, initial reporting indicates there was no insurgent activity in the area at the time of the crash," the news release says.

Peut être un problême au siège éjectable ! mais aussi toutes les éjections ne sont pas forcément réussies ! il seuffit que l'avion se renverse pour que tu ne sois plus capaable de le faire au risque de te diriger directement vers le sol ! |

- Northrop Grumman's SABR Brings Fifth Generation Fighter Radar Capabilities to F-16 Aircraft
2013-05-15T11:00:00-0700
BALTIMORE – May 15, 2013 – Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) designed for the F-16 fighter aircraft recently demonstrated its autonomous, all-environment precision targeting capability, which will enhance the aircraft's mission capabilities.
The capability, known as Auto Target Cueing (ATC), uses high-definition synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images to locate and prioritize targets of interest and display them to the pilot. The active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar architecture allows it to carry out this function while performing other tasks at the same time.
"With SABR, we have built on our F-35 radar investment to bring fifth generation fighter radar capabilities such as ATC to the F-16," said Joseph Ensor, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Targeting Systems Division. "Features like ATC, along with the F-35 modes that we have ported to SABR, will enable greater mission effectiveness, reduce pilot workload and provide a better level of situational awareness than F-16 pilots have ever had."
SABR is an affordable, multifunction AESA radar designed specifically for F-16 retrofit. SABR provides longer detection and tracking ranges, high-resolution SAR maps for all-environment precision targeting, interleaved mode operations for greater situational awareness and greater reliability.
Northrop Grumman has nearly four decades of F-16 radar development and integration experience, and has delivered more than 6,000 fire control radars to U.S. and international air forces. The company also supplies the AESA fire control radars for the F-16 Block 60, F-22 and F-35 aircraft.
Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in unmanned systems, cybersecurity, C4ISR, and logistics and modernization to government and commercial customers worldwide. Please visit www.northropgrumman.com for more information.

Mais je pense que le coût de l'appareil ça doit être < 20 millions. _________________ Site perso : http://defense-turque-infos.com/
