MANAMA, Bahrain - Bahrain has finalized an agreement for nine Black Hawk-M helicopters, according to the commander of the Bahraini air force, Gen. Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah al-Khalifa.
"Today we have completed all the arrangements with [U.S. manufacturer] Sikorsky, and we will receive nine aircraft next May," Sheikh Hamad said Jan. 21.Related Topics
"We had previous negotiations with the company, and were supposed to receive the aircraft last November," he said. The sheikh added that "this model [of helicopter] is equipped with advanced systems for search and rescue operations and for carrying troops, and also has extra fuel tanks to allow it to fly farther." The sheikh did not disclose the value of the deal, saying only that "we have completed the transaction, for a competitive and appropriate price." This was the first agreement for the purchase of military aircraft announced at the Bahrain International Airshow, which opened Jan. 21. Kingdom of Bahrain Selects Rockwell Collins' Transportable Black Hawk Simulator
Iowa | The Kingdom of Bahrain has selected the Rockwell Collins Transportable Blackhawk Operations Simulator (T-BOS) to train their UH-60M Blackhawk helicopter pilots. The T-BOS will be delivered to the government of Bahrain under a Foreign Military Sale contract administered by the U.S. Army's Utility Helicopter Project Office (UHPO). The Bahrain T-BOS is the second foreign sale of the Rockwell Collins developed T-BOS system. The first foreign T-BOS will be delivered to United Arab Emirates in early 2010. "T-BOS is the U.S. Army's standard deployable training device for the Blackhawk helicopter and now that capability is expanding to international markets," said Ken Schreder, vice president and general manager of Simulation & Training Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "The beauty of this trainer is that its mobile nature makes it possible to take training to pilots in the field, saving precious time and resources." T-BOS is a high-fidelity flight simulator capable of being deployed to forward operating bases. It is air, land and sea transportable and can be ready for training within eight hours of arrival due to its own organic power and environmental control unit. Currently in operation at Fort Rucker, Ala., Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Riley, Kan. and Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa., additional T-BOS devices are scheduled to be delivered to Fort Rucker and Fort Bragg, N. Car. later this year.

Bahrain – Army Tactical Missile Systems T2K Unitary
WASHINGTON, November 4, 2010 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress November 3 of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Bahrain of 30 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) T2K Unitary Missiles and associated parts, equipment, training and logistical support for a complete package worth approximately $70 million.
The Government of Bahrain has requested a possible sale of 30 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) T2K Unitary Missiles, Missile Common Test Device software, ATACMS Quality Assurance Team support, publications and technical documentation, training, U.S. government and contractor technical and engineering support, and other related elements of program support. The estimated cost is $70 million.
This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.
Bahrain intends to use these defense articles and services to modernize its armed forces. The Bahrain Defense Forces intends to expand its existing army architecture to counter major regional threats. This will contribute to the Bahrain military's goal of modernizing its capability while further enhancing interoperability with the U.S. and other allies.
The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.
The prime contractor will be Lockheed Martin Industries in Camden, Arkansas. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.
Implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of approximately three government or contractor representatives to travel to Bahrain for a period of two weeks for equipment de-processing/fielding, system checkout and training.

DATE:02/12/10 SOURCE:Flight International PICTURE: Bahrain works up new Black Hawk fleet By Anno Gravemaker
The Royal Bahraini Air Force is working towards achieving full operational capability with its new Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters, eight of which were delivered in early September.
Formed at Riffa air base, the air force's 12 Sqn will operate the Black Hawks as replacements for the service's 11 Agusta/Bell AB212s. One of the type's main uses will be search and rescue operations at sea. The aircraft will be fitted with hoists with a lift capacity of 272kg (600lb), plus forward-looking infrared cameras with auto-tracker function.
A "mark on top" capability is also included, which will enable a pilot to keep position above a survivor by using the autopilot. Mission endurance can be extended to 6h by the addition of two external fuel tanks. Other tasks are likely to include supporting army units and special forces personnel and providing an airborne command and control capability.
Bahrain's ninth and last UH-60M is still in the USA, where it will be configured for VIP transport before entering use.
