UAE military orders Platt ring mount weapon stations 24 January 2013 W&E Platt has secured a contract for production and delivery of its manually operated protected ring mounts weapon stations to the UAE Armed Forces.
Signed through International Golden Group (IGG), the undisclosed contract covers supply of a large quantity of ring-mounts, along with operator and maintainer training, a spares package, as well as technical documentation to the military.
Based on the company's combat-proven MR550 Bi-Metal Ring-Mount series, the items being delivered under the contract are scheduled to be installed onboard the military's new Agrab Mk2 120mm mobile mortar system (MMS). Representing the first export to a Middle Eastern customer, the award follows a $1.7m contract secured by the company for delivery of 39 additional MR550 bi-metal ring mount protected weapon stations for installation on the Finnish Army's RG-32M armoured patrol vehicles fleet in August 2012.
Based on the Platt MR550 Protected Ring-Mount series, the MR550 bi-metal has been designed for integration in wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles with a gross weight of up to 10t, or heavier platforms that are sensitive to variations in centre-of-gravity.
Weighing just below 400kg and operated manually by using a gearbox, the ring mount offers Stanag Level 3 protection, and can traverse through 360°, with maximum elevation and depression of +65° and -35° respectively.
The armament options for the ring mount include either a heavy machine gun, 40mm automatic grenade launcher or a 7.62mm/5.56mm calibre machine gun.
Manufactured by IGG, the Agrab Mk 2 MMS has been designed to provide long-range accurate and lethal firepower to troops in the battlefield.
Initial deliveries under the contract are scheduled to start in early 2013.
