Force publique de défense panaméenne

Il n’y a pas de forces armées au Panama, il existe seulement une force de défense publique. En févier 1990, le gouvernement a aboli l’armée du Panama et a reformé les capacités de défense par la création d’une force publique de défense. En 1994, l’assemblée parlementaire du Panama a approuvé l’interdiction d’une force militaire, mais a autorisé temporairement la création d’une force spéciale de police en cas d’agression extérieur. Celle-ci comporte les unités de la Police Nationale, des unités aériennes et des unités maritimes. Suite à des altercations entre la Force Publique et les rebelles FARC à la frontière avec la Colombie, une décision a été annoncée en 2008 de réorganiser les forces en en Service National des frontières et un service national Air-Mer. L’ensemble des forces se compose d’un total de plus ou moins 11.700 personnels

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce the signing of a contract by the Government of Panama for six AW139 medium twin engine helicopters. The contract also includes pilot and maintainer conversion to type training. Four aircraft will be equipped to perform a wide range of national and public security roles, one will be used for utility missions and the last aircraft will be used to transport senior government officials and other VIPs.
Emilio Dalmasso, Senior VP Commercial Business Unit, AgustaWestland said after the signing of the contract “We are delighted that the AW139 has been selected by the Government of Panama for this important requirement. This latest endorsement by the Government of Panama is further recognition that the AW139 continues to be the outright leader in its class.” The two powerful PT6C-67C turboshaft engines, each producing 1,252 kW (1,679 shp) give the AW139 class leading performance with a maximum cruise speed of 167 knots (310 km/h). The aircraft has a range of over 1000 km or an endurance of over 5 hours with auxiliary fuel, making it ideal for long range transport and for border patrol missions. The cockpit features the latest technology including a Honeywell Primus Epic® fully integrated avionics system, a 4-axis digital Automatic Flight Control System and large flat panel colour displays - reducing pilot workload and allowing the crew to concentrate on the mission.

Citation :: SELEX Sistemi Integrati wins a contract for the Panama Coasts Surveillance

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, signed a contract with the Ministerio delle Seguridad Publica of Panama to provide a maritime surveillance system for the Panama coasts.
The coastal control and monitoring system, which will be available for the Aero naval National Service of Panama (SENAN), will be delivered within 33 months from the contract subscription.
Through the contract the company will supply a national control centre made of 16 consoles, which will receive data from the 18 Lyra 50 radars, also provided together with eight regional centres, each one made of six controller working positions.
In addition the contract includes the realization of the necessary civil works which will be made by local enterprises.
The supply will be completed by a communication system which will interconnect the radar sites, the local centres and the national centre, and allow information exchange among naval units and the control centres.
These kind of systems designed and developed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati are the ideal answer both for the Panama coastal protection from the vessels operating illegal traffics and for the cooperation with institutions and other governmental forces for search and rescue maritime operations.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati acquired the contract thanks to its consolidated experience in the manufacturing of Vessel Traffic Management systems (VTMS). The VTMS is today’s most technologically advanced maritime surveillance system for coastal and borders security.

The Italian company Finmeccanica has delivered to the Government of Panama last two oceanic patrol Saettia Mark IV , based on the class Dicotti the Italian shipyard Fincantieri , for a total of six boats as a donation and as part of the millionaire contract worth 250 million dollars for the purchase of six helicopters, 19 radar and a digital map.
The head of the National Air Service (Senan) of Panama, Belsio Gonzalez , said the two patrolmen will be used to scan jobs vessels carrying drugs. He also stressed that the boats will measure 52 meters long and can reach 30 knots with a range of 1,000 miles.
"After arriving from Italy, will have to do a training process and training to our staff, supported by the Italian government," the deputy director general of Senan, Luis Ruiz .
Senan director also said that "for the first time will have a boat of similar depth, length and width" boats that have been in service in NATO. Citation :: Panama evaluates Colombian LCU

The BDA-class ARC Golfo de Tribugá amphibious landing vessel on 28 April concluded a three-day visit to Panama, where the country's Servicio Aeronaval (SENAN) evaluated the class for possible procurement.
COTECMAR and the Colombian Navy intend to market the 625-tonne vessel to Caribbean, Central and South American states.
The Landing Craft Utility- (LCU-) type vessel was designed and built at the state-run COTECMAR shipyards in Cartagena and entered navy service in February.
Golfo de Tribugá is equipped with an 80 m marine crane and can accommodate different loads on its deck, including 12 20 ft containers, 250 marines, five ECF-class boats, two LPR-40-class armoured fast patrol boats, up to four EE-11 Urutu armoured personnel carriers, or 14,300 gallons of liquid.
