Chevron Signs Petroleum Deals in Offshore Morocco
By Saabira Chaudhuri
Chevron Corp. (CVX) has signed petroleum agreements related to three offshore areas in Morocco, a push to expand its footprint in frontier basins.
The oil and gas company has signed the agreements with Morocco's Office National Des Hydrocarbures Et Des Mines which, once awarded, will allow Chevron to acquire seismic data and conduct studies in deepwater areas known as Cap Rhir Deep, Cap Cantin Deep and Cap Walidia Deep located between 60 miles and 120 miles west and northwest of Agadir, Morocco. The areas encompass about 11,300 square miles with average water depths ranging from between 330 feet to 14,700 feet.
"This is an opportunity for Chevron to expand its already strong presence in the region and allows us to acquire further knowledge about promising geology in an emerging area," said Ali Moshiri, president of Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production Co.
Chevron has a 75% working interest in the three areas, with the Office National Des Hydrocarbures Et Des Mines holding the remaining 25%.
Chevron and other large oil and gas producers have been suffering the impact of a shaky global economy on oil and gas prices. In November, Chevron reported its third-quarter earnings fell 33%, missing expectations as its oil and gas production was disrupted by maintenance, legal issues and storms, and a refinery fire in California caused a sharp drop in fuel sales.
Earlier this month, the second-largest U.S. oil company by market value said it expects its fourth-quarter profit to rise compared with the previous quarter, benefiting from gains on assets and increased U.S. and international production.
Last month, Chevron said its Australian unit made two more natural-gas discoveries in the Exmouth Plateau area of the Carnarvon Basin, a hydrocarbon basin offshore western Australia.
Shares edged down by 55 cents to $114.69 in recent trading. The stock has risen 7.3% in the past 12 months.

| Des précisions de Circle Oil sur sa récente découverte de gaz dans le Gharb : - Citation :
- Morocco Sebou Permit - Discovery Exploration Well KSR-12
The well is located within the central area of the Sebou Permit, about 1.2 kilometres to the south-west of the KSR gas gathering station. Circle Oil Plc (AIM: COP), the Middle East and North Africa focused oil and gas exploration, development and production company, is pleased to announce a significant gas discovery following the preliminary results of drilling of the well KSR-12 in the Sebou Permit, onshore Morocco.
The well is located within the central area of the Sebou Permit, about 1.2 kilometres to the south-west of the KSR gas gathering station. The well was drilled to a TD of 1,980 metres MD. Gas shows, which were confirmed by wireline logging, were encountered at two different levels within the objective Hoot sands.
The net gas pay encountered in the well from wireline log analysis is 19.5 metres in the main target Intra Hoot sands and 1 metre in the Upper Hoot. This is greater than pre-drill sand thickness expectation. Pressure testing showed that the Upper and Intra Hoot sands are not connected to the Hoot sands in the other nearby KSR wells. The seven inch liner was run and cemented and the first test over the primary target Main Hoot sands flowed at a sustained rate of 8.09MMscf/d on a 20/64" choke over 8 hours with no decrease in well head pressure. The second test over the Upper Hoot sands produced at a stabilised rate of 2.32MMscf/d on a 9/64"choke over 10 hours. The well will be completed for future production in the Main Hoot sands and the Upper Hoot will be completed for production once the Main Hoot gas sands have been depleted.
A new rig has been transported to Morocco but due to recent heavy rains affecting access roads into the drill site area in Lalla Mimouna, where drilling platforms have been prepared, it cannot currently be delivered there. In order to avoid delay, the drilling sequence is being modified and the rig will now be transported to the KAB-1 bis location in the Sebou permit, where access is presently possible. KAB-1 bis is a re-drill of the KAB-1 well, drilled in 2011 located downthrown tothe NW-SE trending N'zala Fault in the north-western area of the Sebou 3D survey. The original KAB-1 well encountered swelling clays that compromised the integrity of the borehole and the well had to be abandoned prior to wireline logging and testing. However, the well encountered good gas shows at the target level, a Miocene top Guebbas sand in a structurally downthrown location to the Kabarta Nose, north-east of the KSR-3, -6, -7 and -9 wells. KAB-1 bis has the same target with an adapted mud system to minimise drilling problems in a slightly more updip location. The primary target Guebbas sands are prognosed at a depth of 1,272 metres MD and the TD of the well at 1,360 metres MD.
Whilst further modifications to the drilling sequence may be required due to weather and ground conditions, the rig is scheduled to move to drill Circle's first wells on the Lalla Mimouna permit. The first well of this campaign, LAM-1, is located in the central part of Lalla Mimouna Nord on the East-West trending Anasba Ridge, within the existing 3D seismic area. The target of the LAM-1 well is for Miocene gas-bearing sands, similar to the Sebou discoveries made previously by Circle. The primary target sands are prognosed at a depth of 1,130 metres MD and the TD of the well at 1,431 metres MD. Further wells in the Lalla Mimouna and Sebou permits will follow to complete the current programme. Updates on these wells will be provided in due course.
Commenting on the results of the KSR-12 well Prof. Chris Green, CEO, said:
"We are delighted with the results of the KSR-12 well, which has found the thickest gas sand interval to date of our Sebou wells. We believe that this well will add significant volumes to our reserves for potential gas production and at rates not subject to oil price fluctuation. This is the third well of a six well programme to be drilled with our partner ONHYM in the Sebou permit and is coupled with another six well programme in the Lalla Mimouna permit."

DRC-1 well encounters gas bearing reservoir of excellent quality representing second consecutive successful gas exploration well on Rharb Centre Permit
Operations on DRC-1 well to be completed within 10 days after which rig will move to next drilling location ("DOB-1")
Gulfsands Petroleum plc ("Gulfsands", the "Group" or the "Company" - AIM: GPX), the oil and gas production, exploration and development company with activities in Syria, Morocco, Tunisia and Colombia, is pleased to provide the following update on drilling activities in Morocco.
Morocco:
Rharb Drilling Operations
Drilling operations on the Dardara Southeast 1 well ("DRC-1"), located within the Rharb Centre Permit in Northern Morocco have now been concluded. Drilling operations were completed approximately two days ahead of plan.
The DRC-1 well was drilled to a Total Depth ("TD") of 1,153 metres Measured Depth ("MD") and encountered the primary reservoir target interval on prognosis at a depth of 875 metres MD. Significantly elevated gas readings obtained while drilling, as well as interpretation of geological samples and wireline logs, indicate the presence of a gas bearing sandstone reservoir section of excellent quality.
Detailed petrophysical evaluation of DRC-1 wireline logs yield an initial interpretation indicating a 53 metres gross thickness of excellent quality reservoir sand between 875-928 metres MD, with a net gas bearing sand thickness of 16 metres, evaluated average gas saturation of 68% and average porosity of 34%. A gas-water contact has been observed in the well at approximately 895 metres MD as evidenced by wireline log and formation pressure data.
Forward Rharb Drilling Operations
In addition to encountering a potentially highly productive net gas bearing interval of 16 metres, the DRC-1 well result indicates substantial additional gas exploration potential to exist in an adjacent and up dip fault block and this will be targeted in drilling during 2015.
Due to the presence of over-pressured shales in the lower section of the well-bore, and in order to ensure that the well-bore integrity was maintained for wire-line logging operations, the well was not deepened further to the original planned TD of 1,280 metres MD. The DRC-1 well will now be cased and cemented, and then perforated, completed and, subject to a clean-up flow period, suspended as a future gas production well.
Operations on the DRC-1 well are expected to be completed within 10 days. A further operational update on this well will be provided in due course.
The DRC-1 well is the second well to be drilled based on the interpretation of 3D seismic survey data shot by Gulfsands on the Rharb Centre Permit in 2013. The first well to be drilled based on these data, earlier this year, resulted in the discovery of gas in well LTU-1.
Upon completion of drilling operations at DRC-1, the Company plans to move the rig to the Douar Ouled Balkhair drilling location ("DOB-1").
The Douar Ouled Balkhair gas prospect is mapped on Gulfsands' 3D seismic survey as a fault and dip closed structural trap, and is characterised by bright seismic amplitudes and low seismic acoustic impedance signals in the same manner as was displayed by mapping on seismic of the gas reservoirs encountered in Gulfsands previous two successful gas exploration wells LTU-1 and DRC-1. The primary target sand interval lies between 808 metres MD and 870 metres MD and a secondary target interval is recognised between 973 metres MD and 1052 metres MD. The planned total depth of the DOB-1 well is 1130m MD.
Extraordinary General Meeting
Shareholders are reminded that this meeting is to be held at 10.00am on Tuesday 13th January 2015 and that Proxy Forms completed by registered shareholders must be returned to the share registrar, Capita Registrars, not later than 10.00am on Friday 9th January, 2015.
Mahdi Sajjad, the Company's CEO commented:
"We are delighted with the results of the drilling operations and petrophysical evaluation of the DRC-1 well which point to it being the best exploration success that the Company has achieved in Morocco to date. We look forward to completing the well and observing the production performance during well clean-up operations. The results have given us a firmer understanding of the local geology and the indication of further gas exploration potential to exist up dip in the Dardara South East structure is particularly pleasing."
This release has been approved by Ian Conway, Gulfsands Executive Director Technical and Operations, who has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Physics and has 28 years' of experience in petroleum exploration and management. Mr. Conway has consented to the inclusion of the technical information in this release in the form and context in which it appears.
Petrophysical evaluation results quoted in this News Release have been provided by Roger Jenner. Mr Jenner is an independent industry consultant petrophysicist who has more than 30 years of experience in performing petrophysical evaluations of wireline log data. Prior to working as an independent consultant Mr Jenner worked for operating and service companies involved with petrophysical data acquisition and analysis. He has performed numerous petrophysical evaluations on log data from Moroccan onshore biogenic gas wells on behalf of different operating companies. Mr Jenner has consented to the inclusion of the results of his petrophysical evaluation of well DRC-1 in this News Release.

- Gulfsands sees gas flow at Morocco onshore drill
on 12th January 2015
Gulfsands Petroleum has completed well perforating, completion and clean-up operations on the Dardara Southeast 1 well (DRC-1) located within the Rharb Centre Permit in Northern Morocco Gulfsands Petroleum has completed well perforating, completion and clean-up operations on the Dardara Southeast 1 well (DRC-1) located within the Rharb Centre Permit in Northern Morocco The well is to be suspended as a future gas production well and the COFOR drilling rig will move to the Douar Ouled Balkhair (DOB-1) drilling location, where gas exploration well DOB-1 will be spudded later this month
Following an initial three-hour well clean-up flow period, the well was fully unloaded of completion fluids to a 100 per cent gas stream.
"We are very pleased with the flow result from well DRC-1, the performance of which is consistent with the apparent excellent quality of the reservoir observed from drilling and wire line log information,” said Mahdi Sajjad, Gulfsands CEO.
“We look forward to receiving the results from our next exploration well in the Rharb Centre Permit over the next few weeks.”
During a subsequent six-hour flow period the well flowed at an average gas rate of 7.1 million standard cubic feet per day on a 32/64th" choke with a stable well head pressure of 1,230 pounds per square inch, and with no associated formation water production or sand production.
The well is to be suspended as a future gas production well and the COFOR drilling rig will move to the Douar Ouled Balkhair (DOB-1) drilling location, where gas exploration well DOB-1 will be spudded later this month.
Operations on the DOB-1 well are expected to take 28 days in total.
Subject to finalisation of arrangements with ONHYM, the company anticipates that the DRC-1 well can be connected to existing local infrastructure so that production of gas for sale can commence in the coming months.
