The depot and General Dynamics Land Systems will partner throughout the next two years to produce 200 M1A1 Situational Awareness tanks for Morocco.

An additional agreement for 22 tanks is awaiting congressional approval.

According to Amy Weichel, chief of the Morocco Program Office for Main Battle Tank Systems, the first 50 tanks will be overhauled completely at ANAD utilizing M1 tanks currently in storage at the installation.

"This initial quantity will provide the country of Morocco with a sufficient quantity of Abrams training tanks until the remaining tanks can be delivered," Weichel said.

The additional 150 tanks will be rebuilt using the Abrams Integrated Management Process.

Tanks produced using AIM are disassembled down to the bare hull and sandblasted at ANAD then sent to Lima Tank Plant in Ohio where assembly of the tanks will take place at a GDLS facility.

Production is slated to begin later this year with the last tanks schedule for delivery in mid-2018.

"This will assist Anniston in maintaining core skills for the Abrams tank at a time when domestic production has been paused awaiting the System Enhancement Program Version three," said Tommy Morgan, the logistics lead for the depot's Logistics and Business Development Office.

In addition to assistance with disassembly and overhaul of the tanks and some M1 components, the depot will also provide assistance in Morocco with deprocessing at ports of entry and field service repair, according to Weichel.

Le camouflage est similaire à l'australie. Mais le plus important c'est de bien former les équipages, ce qu'ils ont de l'expérience dans la gestion de la bête. Sur le champ de bataille décide de la qualité et non la quantité. Je tiens à rappeler à nos "voisins", lors d'une tempête dans le désert, a été un combat dans lequel sur 1 abrams a dû 5-6 chars russes.. Résultat, nous le savons..

Pourquoi le Maroc a acheté des chars du stock de l'armée américaine et pas des chars neufs  ??

Ils ont changé le moteur, réservoir, électronique, remise à neuf de la carrosserie et une tour neuve.

Tu penses qu'ils ont gardé quoi  

C'est pour ça qu'elles ne ressemblent pas aux Abrams neuves égyptiennes, irakiennes ou saoudiennes (version export)

ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- The first 22 M1 Abrams tanks repaired for the Morocco Forces Armee Royal were handed off in a delivery ceremony July 26 in Nouaceur, Morocco.

The vehicles were completed at Anniston Army Depot in May and were shipped quickly, thanks to coordination between the installation and the Defense Logistics Agency, which had rail cars allocated and standing by for receipt of the vehicles, according to Jonathan Hathaway, ANAD program manager for M1A1 Abrams foreign military sales to Morocco.

The hand-off isn't the end of ANAD's involvement.

A depot fielding support team, consisting of 15 employees are in Morocco to off-load the vehicles and begin deprocessing and maintenance support for the vehicles.

Deprocessing includes ensuring all tanks are clean and free of debris and stains, have the correct level of fuel as determined by the Morocco Forces Armee Royal, ensuring each weapons card reflects the correct serial number information by tank serial number and following Moroccan requirements for requisitioning parts and returning unserviceable parts to the Forces Armee.

"The Deprocessing Team will also compile a Tank Configuration Report for each vehicle that will be uploaded into a repository. This will be used to establish the Moroccan's configuration matrix for the entire fleet," said Hathaway.

The ANAD employees are also tasked to train the Moroccans on the vehicles.

"Two field service representatives will remain in Morocco for one year, with an option to extend two additional years, if needed, to provide vehicle maintenance and training support," said Mike Osborne, maintenance management specialist for fielding operations in the Directorate of Production Management.

While in Morocco, the representatives will provide advanced maintenance and troubleshooting services to the ANAD fielding team and the Moroccan M1 Abrams tank units, according to Osborne.

In November, to prepare for fielding the vehicles, which are the first of 222 M1 Abrams tanks to be repaired through a partnership between ANAD and General Dynamics Land Systems, depot representatives and TACOM Life Cycle Management Command officials visited Morocco.

"Last November, a joint effort site assessment was performed by TACOM, ANAD and the New Equipment Training Team," said Hathaway. "The information gathered during this visit allowed us to outline mission requirements and establish a plan of execution."

The team also provided recommendations to Morocco for site improvements which would accommodate effective training, range exercises and maintenance operations.

"The Morocco Tank Program is a perfect example of USASAC's mission and the importance of security assistance," said Scott Hunter, division chief of AFRICOM Regional Operations for the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command. "We are providing our partner, Morocco, not just with equipment, but a capability -- which is what building partner capacity is about. By providing these tanks, we have enhancing Morocco's military capability and provided work for our industrial base."

Morocco receives tanks from the US as part of the general contract for 222 tanks , worth $ 1.015 billion, which was approved by the US Congress in 2011 and signed in 2013. Earlier, in 2013, it was already informed about the contract for 50 tanks , delivery of which should be completed by November 30 2016. Under the $358m foreign military sales (FMS) contract, the General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) company will upgrade a total of 150 M1A1 Abrams tanks for sale to the Kingdom of Morocco.

The advanced M1A1 SA tank features gunners primary sight, new Block I 2nd generation forward-looking infrared technology, and a blue force tracking system for enhanced effectiveness in the battlefield. According to the company, the refurbished tanks also incur lower operational and support costs and report higher operational readiness rates.
