The U.S. State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Bahrain for new tactical missiles.
The approval, which was announced by the U.S. Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 28 September, includes Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) Unitary Rocket Pods and Army Tactical Missiles System (ATACMS) Unitary missiles for an estimated cost of $300 million.
According to the DSCA, the State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Bahrain of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Unitary Rocket Pods and Army Tactical Missiles System (ATACMS) Unitary missiles for an estimated cost of $300 million.
The Kingdom of Bahrain has requested to buy 120 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) M31 Unitary Rocket Pods ( 6 rockets per pod for a total of 720; and 110 Army Tactical Missiles System (ATACMS) M57 T2K Unitary missiles. Also included are publications, personnel training and training equipment, software development, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support.
The proposed sale of the M31 GMLRS Unitary Rocket Pods and ATACMS T2K Unitary Missile will improve Bahrain’s capability to meet current and future threats and provide greater security for its critical oil and natural gas infrastructure, and significant national events. Bahrain will use the enhanced capabilities to strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats.
The M31 GMLRS is a low-cost guided rocket for use on the M270 multiple launch rocket artillery systems. It is precision munition that utilizes global positioning system (GPS) technology for accuracy which reduces the risk of collateral damage.
The ATACMS T2K is a all-weather, long-range unitary surface-to-surface missile (SSM). The ATACMS T2K missiles have a range of up to about 300 km.

- DoD awards Bahraini AH-1Z contract
Gareth Jennings, London - Jane's Defence Weekly
08 February 2019
Bahrain will receive 12 Bell AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters by the end of August 2022, under a contract announced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 7 February.
Bahrain is to receive 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters by the end of August 2022. (IHS Markit/Patrick Allen)
The USD240.3 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) deal, which was first reported at the Bahrain Airshow in November 2018, will see the helicopters built under the US military’s Lot 16 production run.
As noted by the US Defense Security and Cooperation Agency (DSCA) when the procurement was first approved in April 2018, in addition to the 12 AH-1Z helicopters Bahrain is to acquire Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and BAE Systems Advance Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II guided rockets, as well as Thales’ TopOwl helmet-mounted display system.
The total value of the deal, including spares, support, and ancillary equipment, was estimated by the DSCA to be USD911.4 million, with further contracts set to follow this initial award.
The AH-1Z buy is part of a wider revamp of Bahrain’s rotary-winged capabilities occurring in two phases.

It has also approved a similar sale to the UAE of four hundred fifty-two (452) Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Missiles Segment Enhanced (MSE) and related equipment for an estimated $2.728 billion.
The combined value of both deals is $6.206 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale Friday.
The Government of Bahrain has requested to buy sixty (60) Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles, thirty-six (36) Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM-T) missiles with canisters, nine (9) M903 Launching Stations (LS), five (5) Antenna Mast Groups (AMG), three (3) Electrical Power Plants (EPP) III, two (2) AN/MPQ-65 Radar Sets (RS), and two (2) AN/MSQ-132 Engagement Control Stations (ECS). The estimated cost is $2.478 billion.
The Government of the United Arab Emirates has requested to buy up to four hundred fifty-two (452) Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) Missiles Segment Enhanced (MSE). Also included are tools and test equipment, support equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, spare and repair parts, facility design, U.S. Government and contractor technical, engineering, and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics, sustainment and program support.
The estimated cost is $2.728 billion.
The prime contractor for the PAC-3 Missile is Lockheed-Martin in Dallas, Texas. The prime contractor for the GEM-T missile is Raytheon Company in Andover, Massachusetts. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with these potential sale.
The proposed sale will enhance Bahrain’s and UAE's capability to meet current and future aircraft and missile threats. The UAE will use the capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense.

_________________

Lockheed Martin has begun production of 16 F-16V Block 70/72 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft for Bahrain, the company announced on 17 December.
The event was marked by a visit to the production facility at Greenville, South Carolina, by Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashed Al Khalifa, ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States.
In June 2018, Bahrain became the launch customer for the F-16V when it signed a USD1.12-billion contract for 16 new aircraft. The Royal Bahraini Air Force (RBAF) will also upgrade its 20 Block 40 F-16C/D aircraft to this latest standard to make a total fleet of 36 F-16V aircraft.
As the most up-to-date version of the Fighting Falcon, the F-16V features the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-83 active electronically scanned array radar (derived from the F-16E/F Block 60 AN/APG-80 and also known as the Scalable Agile Beam Radar), a new Raytheon mission computer, the Link 16 datalink, modern cockpit displays, an enhanced electronic warfare system, and a ground-collision avoidance system.
