- The Moroccan Government mat plan to buy additional F-16 Fighting Falcons. The Government would like to purchase twelve new-build single seat F-16V Vipers. The Adwas Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF) currently has fifteen F-16C Block 52s and eight F-16D Block 52s in service. One F-16C crashed on 10 May 2015 during combat operations while participating in Operation Decisive Storm of the Arabic Coaltion over Yemen. The 24 RMAF F-16C/Ds were delivered in 2011 and 2012 and are based at 6 Air Base Benguérir with Escadre de Chasse "Falcon", "Spark" and " Viper".
It is known that Morocco is a loyal ally to America in North Africa. Most types of aircraft and helicopters in use with the RMAF are built in the United States. The neighbouring country, Algeria, receives most hardware from Russia.
The F-16V was introduced to the public during the Singapore Air Show in 2012. The first flight took place on 16 October 2015. Existing older versions can be retrofitted to the Viper standard. Taiwan and Greece are starting to upgrade their fleet to F-16V. Morroco, like Bahrain wants to purchase new-builds. | |
