The Revolver 860 is a VTOL combat drone designed with four arms and eight rotors. Its weapons bay (a barillet, hence its name of ''revolver'') can carry up to eight 60mm mortar shells. (Picture source: DronesVision)
On August 17, Oryx reported that Revolver 860 combat VTOL UAVs had been sold to Poland and subsequently transferred to Ukraine. Last June, CM Media cited a social media post by a military enthusiast showing that the Revolver 860 was being used by the Ukrainian military to drop mortar shells on Russian troops.
The Revolver 860 is a VTOL combat drone designed with four arms and eight rotors. Its weapons bay (a barillet, hence its name of ''revolver'') can carry up to eight 60mm mortar shells. Customization for other calibers (81 or 120mm) can be discussed. The drone can stay airborne for 20 to 40 minutes, depending on weight and wind conditions. The drone can be operated within a 20km range. Its maximum takeoff weight is 42kg.
When asked on Thursday (Aug. 18) to comment on claims that 800 of its Revolver 860 UAVs had been sent to the Ukrainian army, a representative for DronesVision told Taiwan News that the company only ships to customers in Poland, and it cannot comment on where those firms may later send the drones as it has signed non-discloser agreements with its clients. The representative said that purchases of the drones picked up in Poland in March, shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, and have steadily increased since.

The Ukrainian armed forces develop locale-made weapon systems to deal with the lack of military equipment and more specifically mobile artillery systems.
On June 29, 2022, the Army Recognition editorial team reported that Ukraine has already developed indigenous rocket launcher systems using 122mm rocket launcher tubes mounted on a Unimog light truck and an S-8 rocket launcher pod from a Ka-52 helicopter mounted on a Mitsubishi pickup used to fight Russian troops.
The MT-LB is a multipurpose tracked armored vehicle that was designed at the Kharkov Tractor Plant in Ukraine under the direction of Anatoliy Belousov in the early 1960s. It was one the most popular multirole tracked armored vehicle used in the world. It was also developed in many variants to perform a wide range of missions.
The design of the MTLB is based on a low-profile armored hull mounted on a tracked armored chassis. The hull of the MT-LB is all-welded steel armor with the crew compartment at the front, the engine immediately behind the crew compartment on the left side and the troop compartment at the rear of the hull.
For its self-protection, the vehicle is equipped with a one-man turret mounted at the front right side of the hull which is armed with one 7.62 mm PKT machine gun.
The MTLB is powered by a V-8 cylinder diesel engine developing 240 hp at 2,100 rpm coupled to a manual transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gears. It can run at a maximum road speed 61 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 500 km. The vehicle is fully amphibious being propelled in the water by its tracks at a maximum speed of 4,5 km/h.
The MT-12 is a 100mm anti-tank that was developed in Russia and entered into service with the Russian armed forces in 1961. The gun is operated by a six-man crew consisting of a detachment commander, driver of the towing vehicle, gun layer on the left, loader on the right, and two ammunition numbers.
The MT-12 is able to fire three types of ammunition including the APFSDS (Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot) with a range of 3,000 m, HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) with a range of 6,000 m, and HE (High Explosive) with a range of 8,200 m.

Germany clears sale of 155m Vulcano precision-guided artillery shells, COBRA radars and IRIS-T missiles to Ukraine
Defense News August 2022 Global Security army industry
POSTED ON MONDAY, 22 AUGUST 2022 16:27
According to Anwesha Majumdar in RepublicWorld.com, the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, on Sunday, August 21, announced the shipment of COBRA counter-battery radar and IRIS-T missiles to Ukraine.
VULCANO is a family of unguided (BER) and guided (GLR) ammunition for the 76mm, 127mm naval guns and 155mm land artillery systems. (Picture source: Leonardo)
German newspaper Die Welt's website on May 4, 2022, already announced that Germany planned to supply Cobra counter-artillery radars to Ukraine. This announcement came after the announcement of Germany to provide PzH 2000 155mm self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
Germany has now authorized the sale of 255 high-precision 155mm Vulcan-guided artillery shells to Ukraine. According to the German publication Welt am Sonntag, no precise delivery date has been set yet. Defense companies of Germany (Diehl Defence) and Italy (Leonardo) have jointly produced Vulcano shells.
In addition to this, the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz on Sunday announced the shipment of the COBRA counterbattery radar and the IRIS-T air defence system to Ukraine. Referring to the weapons, Scholz said that they "will soon be" in Kyiv. According to Nexta, he also said that Germany will keep giving Ukraine "what it needs for defense."
Vulcano 155mm artillery shells
Vulcano 155mm is a family of subcalibre ammunition for 155mm Land artillery systems composed by an unguided projectile called BER (Ballistic Extended Range) and a guided one called GLR (Guided Long Range). They represent the most advanced technology currently available for precise land artillery firings.
The Vulcano projectile is specifically conceived and realized to improve the performance of other ammunition of the same calibre, both in range and accuracy while maintaining compatibility with the in-service propelling charges and 155mm barrels. The outline of the ammunition is almost identical to that of conventional rounds, which enables it to be handled without any additional logistical burden.
The main application of the Vulcano 155 GLR is for long-range, high-accuracy fire support against stationary and moving point targets with an extremely reduced likelihood of collateral damage.
The outstanding aerodynamics, coupled with the GPS guidance and trajectory shaping capabilities, enable the Vulcano 155 GLR to reach a max range of 70km while keeping an extreme accuracy of fewer than 5m within all operational ranges.
The shell is filled with IM explosive and it is made up of specific patented pre-formed tungsten rings, enabling extremely high effectiveness against soft and lightly protected targets; the detonation trigger is generated by a Radio Frequency programmable fuse capable of various functionalities, such as altimetric, instantaneous and delayed impact. When the RF fuse is replaced with the dedicated Semi-Active Laser (SAL) sensor, the ammunition can also effectively engage laser-designated targets (forward observer required), stationary and moving, with further improved precision with respect to pure GPS guidance.
Moreover, the possibility of programming the final attack angle of the projectile to up to 90° (that is, vertical fall) against the target enables the maximization of both warhead effectiveness and guidance accuracy, as well as minimizing the likelihood of detection of the projectile in flight by the enemy’s defence systems.
The Vulcano 155 ammunition, both BER and GLR, have been qualified according to the relevant STANAGs under joint Italian and German MoD supervision.

COBRA
The COBRA, which stands for COunter Battery RAdar, was jointly developed by Thales, Airbus Defence and Space and Lockheed Martin for the German, French and British armed forces. The radar entered into service in 2005.
The COBRA is considered the world's most advanced land-based weapon locating system, comprising a high-performance radar, advanced processing, and integrated, flexible command, control, and communication system. The design includes state-of-the-art digital processing and advanced active, solid-state phased array antenna comprising several thousand transmit/receive modules.
The COBRA mission is to locate mortars, rocket launchers and artillery batteries and to provide information for countering their effectiveness. With a detection range up to 100 km, COBRA is capable of locating and classifying up to 40 batteries in two minutes. It will also be able to monitor breaches of cease-fire when deployed in a peace-keeping role.

EUTM Ukraine?

Australia to offer 300 DefendTex D40 kamikaze drones to Ukrainian army
Defense News August 2022 Global Security army industry
POSTED ON THURSDAY, 25 AUGUST 2022 17:01
According to Maksim Panasovskyi in gagadget.com, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will soon receive a new type of kamikaze drone (the DefendTex 40) from Australia, in addition to Warmate, Switchblade 300 and Phoenix Ghost.
Australia will soon hand over 300 DefendTex D40 kamikaze drones to Ukraine, Maksim Panasovskyi writes. Test units have already been delivered to Poland, where they will be tested. After the tests, Australia will send the entire batch of drones to Ukraine.
As Joseph Trevithick wrote in The Drive, the Drone40, which DefendTex unveiled publicly in 2019, was among various new systems that British Army troops from the Light Dragoons and Royal Anglian Regiment were seen training with during a Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRX) in October 2020. The Drone40 can be fired from launchers designed to fire standard 40mm low-velocity grenades. Its overall length is variable depending on the type of payload installed, but DefendTex says the length of the core body is close to five inches. As such, a launcher designed to fire over-sized 40mm cartridges, such as variants of the Heckler & Koch AG36 under-barrel grenade launcher, which are in service with U.K. and U.S. forces, among others, is necessary to employ them. Some older launchers, most notably the very popular American-made M203, can only accommodate relatively short 40mm rounds.
Combined with a camera-equipped type, the Drone40s could act as loitering munitions, hovering over a certain area, waiting for targets to emerge, and then being directed to engage them when they do. The feed from Drone40s equipped with the cameras is transmitted back to the operator via a line-of-sight link and is on a hand-held tablet-like device. This is also how the drone's movements are controlled after launch, via a GPS-enabled navigation system.

United Kingdom gives six underwater drones to Ukraine to hunt mines
Naval News August 2022 Navy Forces Maritime Defense Industry
POSTED ON MONDAY, 29 AUGUST 2022 16:45
According to information published by the UK MoD on August 29, 2022, dozens of Ukrainian personnel are being trained by the Royal Navy to use hi-tech crewless vehicles to help them hunt mines.
Side-by-side with sailors from the US Navy, experts from the Diving & Threat Exploitation Group are teaching Ukrainians how to operate the devices, which search large areas of seabed for mines and unexploded ordnance without putting the operators in harm’s way.
The UK is giving six of the underwater drones to Ukraine and training its personnel here in Britain to use them so they can clear their coastline of mines when they return to their homeland.
The lightweight autonomous vehicle is designed for use in shallow coastal environments, operating effectively at depths of up to 100 meters to detect, locate and identify mines using an array of sensors, so the Ukrainian Navy can destroy them.
Dozens of Ukrainian Navy personnel will be taught to use the drones over the coming months, with the first tranche having already begun their training. The Diving & Threat Exploitation Group is delivering three-week training courses, alongside the US Navy Sixth Fleet.
The Royal Navy has considerable experience using small tube-shaped sonar-equipped devices. The training involves launching and recovering the devices at sea, as well as interpretation of the data sent back to identify mock mines.
The Royal Navy is also training Ukrainian sailors to operate Sandown-class minehunters.
A small number of ships carrying grain have left Ukraine since the UN brokered a deal in July to allow food exports, but efforts to get food out of the country continue to be hampered by sea mines left by Russian forces along Ukraine’s coast.
About the Sandown class
The Sandown class is a class of fifteen minehunters built primarily for the Royal Navy by Vosper Thornycroft. The first vessel was commissioned into Royal Navy service on 9 June 1989 and all the British ships are named after coastal towns and cities.
The Sandown Class is equipped with two underwater PAP 104 mk5 remote-controlled mine-disposal vehicles, supplied by Societe ECA. The vehicle is controlled via a 2,000 m fiber-optic cable.
A lighting system, low light level black and white camera and a color camera are fitted. The vehicle is also fitted with high-resolution sonar. The sensor data is transmitted back to the operations control centre on the ship.
The main payload is a 100 kg mine disposal charge which can be replaced by a manipulator. Wire cutters are used to release moored mines from the column of water above the sea bed. The mine disposal vehicles can be deployed to a depth of 300 m.
Citation :
"Raytheon Co., Tewksbury, Massachusetts, was awarded a $182,295,333 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, with an estimated completion date of Aug. 23, 2024. Fiscal 2022 Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds in the amount of $182,295,333 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity (W31P4Q-22-C-0068)."
US Army (photo ci-dessus US Army).

However the howitzer model is not specified, the picture published by Ukrinform, if related to the Lithuanian delivery, shows a U.S.-made M101A1 (previously designated M2A1) model. It was the standard U.S. light field howitzer in World War II and saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters and during the Korean War. Entering production in 1941, it quickly gained a reputation for accuracy and a powerful punch. The M101A1 fires 105 mm high explosive (HE) semi-fixed ammunition and has a range of 12,330 yards (11,270 m), making it suitable for supporting infantry.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, at the end of August, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvidas Anusauskas stated that Lithuania's military aid to Ukraine amounts to more than EUR 120 million, with the total amount of support soon to exceed half a billion euros.

The donation was announced by Norwegian Minister of Defence Bjørn Arild Gram when he met Defence Ministers from 40 or so countries in Germany today. Western countries are in Ramstein to coordinate further donations and military support to Ukraine, to secure that the country can withstand the Russian invasion.
‘’The Hellfire missiles were originally acquired for the Coastal Ranger Commando. This is a weapon that Ukraine has asked for, and it will prove useful in their fight against Russian invasion forces. The missile is easy to operate, and can be used against both land- and sea targets’’, said Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
The Norwegian Armed Forces tested and verified the status of the missiles prior to their shipment. They have now been shipped from Norway. Ukrainian operators have been trained in the use of Hellfire by Norwegian instructors. The Hellfire system is nearing the end of its service life was scheduled to be phased out the Norwegian Armed Forces.
Norway has also donated night-vision equipment to Ukraine. This includes both night vision goggles and binoculars. This is equipment that has been replaced by newer equipment in the Norwegian Armed Forces.
In the future, donations will to a lesser extent come from the Armed Forces’ own inventory. ‘’So far, we and our allies have donated military systems and equipment from our own stocks. In the future we will need to cooperate closely with the defence industry in order to maintain necessary deliveries of military equipment to Ukraine. This will also ensure that Ukraine receives more modern and efficient equipment’’, said Minister of Defence Bjørn Arild Gram.

As reported by Laurent Lagneau on opex360.com, the main activity of the French company S2M-Equipment, established in Montlouis-sur-Loire, is to restore, even modernize, equipment that has previously been used by the French forces in order to put them on the second-hand market. Its catalog offers VAB armored vehicles and ERC-90 Sagaie combat vehicles having found a second youth, as well as Peugeot P4s, ACMAT VLRAs and 155 mm TRF1 towed guns,

Alex C. Sauceda)
S2M Equipment should provide the Ukrainian army with former French Army TRF1 howitzers. This is indeed what Jean-Dominique Merchet, of the daily L'Opinion, revealed and tweeted. “These guns are no longer in service with the Army, except for a handful of them in a regiment stationed in Djibouti. Destocked, they were acquired by a broker – the company S2M-Equipment […]. It was from her that the Ukrainians bought the TRF1s, the Ministry of the Armed Forces having “accompanied their certification”, ”said Mr. Merchet.
Such a sale must first be authorized by the Interministerial Commission for the Study of War Material Exports [CIEEMG], Laurent Lagneau writes. And so it had no objection. As on July 1, 2021, the French army still had at least 12 TRF1s, the latter being used by the 5th Overseas Interarms Regiment [RIAOM] based in Djibouti.
The TRF1 was showcased in 1979 at the Eurosatory defense exhibition, as a replacement for the aging BF-50. Giat produced it from 1984 to 1993. The TRF1, it is a gun with a maximum range of 30 km. Able to be quickly put into action [less than five minutes] and requiring 8 gunners, it has a rate of fire of 3 shots in 15 seconds in rapid mode, or 6 shots in one minute in “classic” mode. Its tube must be changed every 3,000 shots.

Defense News September 2022 Global Security army industry
POSTED ON SUNDAY, 18 SEPTEMBER 2022 11:20
According to information published by the German newspaper website "Welt" on September 17, 2022, after several weeks of talks, Germany agrees on the delivery to Ukraine of 18 RCH-155, 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzers manufactured by the German company Kraus-Maffei Wegmann (KMW).
Citing information from the "Welt" newspaper website, Ukraine wants to order 18 RCH-155 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzers for an amount of €216 million. On Friday, September 16, 2022, the Ukrainian ambassador in Germany, Andriy Melnyk said that Germany approved the export of these howitzers to Ukraine.
In terms of artillery systems, Germany has already delivered to Ukraine 10 155mm PzH 2000s tracked self-propelled howitzers that arrived in Ukraine in June and July 2022. Germany has also supplied Ukraine with three M270 MARS II MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket Systems).
On September 16, 2022, the Army Recognition editorial team reported that Germany would supply two additional MARS II MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) to Ukraine.
The RCH-155 is a new generation of mobile self-propelled howitzer designed and manufactured by the German company KMW (Krauss-Maffei Wegman). The howitzer is based on the wheeled chassis of the Boxer 8x8 multi-role armored vehicle.
The rear of the RCH-155 is fitted with a remotely operated turret armed with a 155mm 52-caliber gun which is also used on the tracked armored self-propelled howitzer PZH 2000. The vehicle can carry a total of 30 pieces of ammunition and is able to fire all standard 155mm NATO rounds.

France will deliver to Ukraine 8 CAESAR howitzers in 8x8 configuration which were planned for Denmark
Defense News October 2022 Global Security army industry
POSTED ON SUNDAY, 02 OCTOBER 2022 12:01
According to information published by the French Newspaper "Le Monde" website on October 1, 2022, French is ready to deliver to Ukraine six new CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers in 8x8 configuration that were planned to be delivered to Denmark following an order signed in 2017.

Citing information from the French Newspaper website "Le Monde", the technical discussions are being finalized, the three countries including France, Denmark, and Ukraine are in the final stage to accept the delivery of six CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers in 8x8 configuration. This delivery of new howitzers to Ukraine has been discussed in recent weeks between the President, Emmanuel Macron, his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, and the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen.
On April 22, 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron announced military aid to Ukraine including French-made CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers and tens of thousands of shells. On June 16, during a visit to Kyiv, President Macron announced France would provide another 6 CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers in addition to the 12 that had already been delivered.
Alerted by his armed forces staff, Emmanuel Macron no longer wanted to deliver more CAESAR howitzers from the French army's military inventory. In fact, the 18 CAESAR 6x6 self-propelled howitzers already delivered to Ukraine came from the operational military inventory of the French army. According to our sources, before the war in Ukraine the French army had 76 CAESAR howitzers, with the donation to Ukraine, the French army gave up a quarter of its artillery capacity.
The 8x8 variant of the CAESAR is the second generation of 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer in the CAESAR family. Denmark signed a contract with the French company Nexter on 22 May 2017 for the delivery of 15 CAESAR howitzers in 8x8 configuration, which were planned to be delivered in mid-2020 to the Danish armed forces. On October 2019, Denmark signed a new contract with Nexter to acquire 4 additional 8x8 CAESAR howitzers.
If we compare the 8x8 version of the CAESAR, and 6x6 configurations which are already used by the Ukrainian army to fight the Russian army, this latest version offers more mobility, protection, and firepower. In terms of mobility, the Danish CAESAR is based on an 8x8 military truck chassis offering more mobility in all-terrain conditions. The 8x8 howitzer has a combat weight of around 32 tons and can carry up to 36 shells instead of 18 for the CAESAR in a 6x6 configuration.
The 8x8 self-propelled howitzer CAESAR is armed with one 155mm/L52 52 caliber howitzer which is similar to the cannon mounted on the 6x6 version and is fitted with a fully automatic loading system offering a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per minute.
The 8x8 CAESAR will be also able to fire the next generation of ammunition as the KATANA, new guided artillery ammunition developed by Nexter. With a maximum range between 30 km for the first generation and 60 km for the next, KATANA will strike targets with pinpoint precision. The gun can reach targets up to 42 km with ERFB (Extended Range Full Bore) ammunition and 55 km with VLAP. In addition to firing the standard French Army LU 122 high-explosive base bleed (BB) and Hollow Base (HB) projectile, the CAESAR can also fire the Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Velocity enhanced Long-range Artillery Projectile (VLAP) which achieved a maximum range of 58 km.

Lithuania's Minister of Defense Arvydas Anusauskas earlier tweeted that Lithuania would supply Ukraine's Armed Forces with winter clothes and equipment, allocate additional funds for next year's material support, and provide 120 mm mortars on platform 113, armored cars, thermal imagers, drones, etc. According to him, after the delivery of this batch of aid, Lithuania's total military aid to Ukraine will reach EUR 230 million.
Germany and The Netherlands have delivered several PzH2000 self-propelled howitzers to the Ukrainian army: last July, the German government approved the sale of 100 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine worth 1.7 billion euros ($1.72 billion). German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck reportedly approved Ukraine’s request for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers on July 13 after receiving it in April. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) had already begun manufacturing the howitzers, which have a range of 30-60 kilometers (18.5-37 miles) depending upon the ammunition type selected. Full delivery of these artillery systems is expected to take several years.
A tweet posted on September 16 by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense already stated that Ukrainian self-propelled howitzers with battlefield damages were on their way to Lithuania, where they would be repaired.

Hensoldt’s TRML-4D multifunction radar ensures the rapid detection and tracking of some 1,500 targets in a radius of up to 250 km (Picture source: Hensoldt)
Thomas Müller, CEO of Hensoldt, said: "The situation in Ukraine requires quick and decisive action. Due to a serial production line and the commitment of our employees, we are able to deliver such systems to protect the population in the shortest possible time."
TRML-4D uses the latest Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar technology with multiple digitally shaped beams. It is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying various types of aerial targets, with a focus on small, fast and low-flying and/or manoeuvring cruise missiles and aircraft, as well as hovering helicopters. It ensures the rapid detection and tracking of some 1,500 targets in a radius of up to 250 km.
In addition to the TRML-4D multifunction radar, Hensoldt's portfolio also includes the Twinvis passive radar, the Spexer product family and radars for securing ship and air traffic. Hensoldt supplies radars for the new frigates and corvettes of the German Navy, for airspace surveillance and for approach control at airfields of the German Armed Forces, among others.
As purely German systems, Hensoldt's solutions are not dependent on foreign technology and therefore offer the highest degree of approvability and certifiability for operation in Germany, as well as the highest possible security of supply. At the same time, they are fully compatible with NATO's integrated air defence architecture.
