178 FW deploys for Exercise Load Diffuser 2010

April 29, 2010 (by SSgt. Tina Maddock) - Approximately 100 members of the 178th Fighter Wing from Springfield, Ohio deployed in support of the Load Diffuser Exercise 2010, April 22 - 27 to Kecskemet, Hungary.

The LD2010 is a joint exercise with the Hungarian Joint Force Command. The exercise aims to sharpen the combat capabilities of the participating forces.

United States Air Force pilots and Hungarian Air Force pilots will have the opportunity to engage in different air-to-air combat scenarios. The aircraft involved are the USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon, Hungarian Air Force JAS-39 Gripen, MiG-29 Fulcrum and the Mi-24 Hind.

"It is one of the few training opportunities they (the Hungarian Air Force) have to fly against a larger formation," said Lt. Col. Nathan Thomas, the LD2010 project officer. "It is to help improve their skills and a way to improve ours," said Colonel Thomas.

The USAF and Hungarian Air Force pilots will be working with the Hungarian joint terminal air controllers to direct aircraft against simulated ground targets, said Colonel Thomas. The Hungarian JTACs were trained in the United States.

Colonel Thomas said the Hungarian Mi-24 helicopters will be working with the USAF and Hungarian Air Force to conduct ground base air defense exercises.

In addition to practicing air combat maneuvers against the F-16, Hungarian Air Force servicemembers will be trained to work with the F-16. Airmen from the 178FW will educate aircraft maintainers and fire fighters from the Hungarian Air Force on operating an F-16.

The Hungarian Air Force welcomed the 178FW with an opening ceremony April 26. The ceremony was attended by both USAF and Hungarian Air Force servicemembers which kicked off the Load Diffuser Exercise 2010.

The exercise is scheduled to last two weeks.

According to Russia’s Arms Trade Analysis Centre, Hungary is interested in purchasing 30 Russian helicopters.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Hungary plans to buy about 30 Russian helicopters with the value of the contract expected to reach $490 million, a spokesperson for Russia’s Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) said Friday.

“In February, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban plans to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which they will discuss the delivery of up to 30 Russian helicopters to the Hungarian Air Force,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that the value of the potential contract has been estimated at 142 billion Hungarian forints (some $490 million).

The Hungarian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has launched a tender relating to the overhaul of the country's Mi-17 utility helicopters and AN-26 transport aircraft, a requirement that raises the issue of the timing and status of long-running plans to replace the platforms.

The request for proposals (RfP) calls for the overhaul of five Mi-17 units and one AN-26 transporter. The overhaul of the five Mi-17s has a deadline of 1 December 2017 and the overhaul of the An-26 a deadline of five months from contract signature.

IHS Jane's estimates that Hungary currently has five An-26 units, although as few as two may be operational.

Le 4 mars 2016, la Hongrie a organisé une cérémonie pour célébrer les 10 ans de sa flotte de chasseurs Saab Gripen. Budapest opère 14 Gripen C/D (12 Monoplaces et deux Biplaces) depuis 2006 dans le cadre d'un contrat de leasing.

Avec ces appareils, la force aérienne hongroise est entrée dans une nouvelle ère. Contrairement aux chasseurs d'origine soviétiques opérés auparavant, le Gripen est conçu pour être intégré dans les opérations aériennes de l'OTAN. La Hongrie a ainsi pu participer à la mission Baltic Air Policing en septembre 2015. Quatre appareils et 80 personnes ont été déployés pendant quatre mois dans le cadre de cette mission.

Le Gripen, conçu par Saab est actuellement en service dans l'armée de l'air suédoise, en République Tchèque, en Thaïlande et en Afrique du Sud. Le Brésil commandé la nouvelle version du Gripen qui est en cours de développement. Le "roll out" de ce Gripen E (Baptisé NG au Brésil) est prévu pour mai 2016.

LITPOLUKRBRIG begins its participation in ANAKONDA 16 Exercise oriented on training and coordination Crisis-response Operations in Nowa Dęba training ground, scheduled to take place between 6th and 17th of June.

The exercise opening ceremony was held by Brigadier General Adam Joks, the Multinational Brigade Commander today, on 6th of June, and involved participants from Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Hungary and the USA.

During welcoming speech Brigadier General Adam Joks expressed his belief in the significance of this event. According to the LITPOLUKRBRIG Commander’s words, ANAKONDA 16 Exercise creates a wide spectrum of opportunities to cooperate with military partners from participating nations. During next 10 days the soldiers will work, train and live together shoulder to shoulder to achieve all desired training objectives and develop military capabilities. Hence, participation in this operation will allow raising the level of training, establishing mutual trust and understanding between the involved armies.

For Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade this is the first significant training event since opening its Command on 26th of January this year. The unit deploys a command post which will issue orders to the subordinated and affiliated elements and run them during simulated operation.

“ANAKONDA 16 provides us, the LITPOLUKRBRIG Command and certain affiliated units, with a possibility to verify the capacities of interoperability within the Brigade, as well as cooperation with the potential and current partners of the unit. We are brothers in arms and we will show that during this training event. At the end of the day we will be more proficient, more interoperable and better prepared to meet the NATO standards and international cooperation military requirements,” Brigadier General Adam Joks commented.

In particular, a Ukrainian airborne platoon with 80th Airborne Brigade has been attached to a Polish battalion. It opens an opportunity to exercise interoperability on tactical level and explore successfulness of combined tactical units.

It shall be recalled that the ANAKONDA 16 exercise, taking place at the largest Polish military ranges all around the country, will involve 31 thousand soldiers, hailing from 23 countries.

At the end of the ceremony Brigadier General Adam Joks wished all participants the successful and safe training and good working atmosphere.

BAKU (Sputnik) – Baku and Ankara are holding joint military drills in Turkey, the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry said Monday.
"According to the military plan of bilateral cooperation, Azerbaijan and Turkey launched the ISIK-2016 military drills," a press release from the ministry reads.

According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, three Mil Mi-17 military transport helicopters and three Mil Mi-35 attack helicopters left Azerbaijan for a Turkish military base in the central city of Konya.

The exercises, that according to media reports will reportedly involve troops from Hungary, Romania, Saudi Arabia and Northern Cyprus, are due to last until June 30.

Saab has delivered a replacement JAS-39D to the Hungarian Air Force

Saab has delivered a replacement JAS-39D (side number 44) to the Hungarian Air Force on Jul .1.

Hungary lost two Gripen fighters in 2015 and one of them was a twin-seater that is crucial in training new pilots.

JAS 39D is upgraded similarly to the JAS 39C but is a two seater variant.

The Gripen multirole fighter aircraft, developed by Saab, was first flown in December 1988 and entered operational service with the Swedish Air Force in 1997. It is planned that the Gripen will replace all current variants of the Viggen and Draken combat aircraft.

Gripen has been developed by an industrial consortium consisting of Saab, Saab Microwave Systems (formerly Ericsson), Volvo Aero Corporation, Saab Avitronics and FFV Aerotech. A joint venture company, Gripen International, has been set up by Saab and BAE Systems to market the Gripen for export markets. BAE Systems is building the main landing gear unit and wing attachment unit.

Hungary decides to overhaul its Mi-24 fleet

The Hungarian government has decided to repair the Hungarian Air Force's obsolete Mi-24 attack helicopter fleet instead of buying new or second-hand aircraft as originally planned, Jane's has learned. The Mi-24s, which have been grounded for some time, are likely to be overhauled in Russia.

Following the decision Mihaly Varga, Hungary's minister of national economy, tabled a motion to modify the 2017 budget by including a HUF10 billion (USD36 million) provision for the work. The overhaul (and probable upgrade) of the helicopters is expected to extend the fleet's service life out to 2024, Hungarian Defence Minister Istvan Simicsko recently told Magyar Idok, a pro-government daily.

Modernisation des Mi-24V/P hongrois !



La Hongrie va moderniser 8 de ses hélicoptères de combat de type Mi-24V et Mi-24P. Les travaux seront menés par JSC 419 ARZ, JSC Moscou hélicoptère usine Mil, et JSC NPO Geofizika-NV dans le cadre d'un contrat signé par Russian Helicopters et la force aérienne hongroise HuAF.

Les huit hélicoptères seront démontés et leurs turbocompresseurs Klimov TV3-117V seront livrés à JSC ODK-Klimov, une filiale de United Engine Corporation de Rostec, pour réparation et prolongation de leur durée de vie. Par ailleurs des travaux de modernisation de l’avionique permettront l’utilisation de jumelle de vision nocturne (NVG).

Les Mi-24 « Hind » hongrois :

La Hongrie disposait de 40 hélicoptères Mil Mi-24 « Hind » dont 20 Mi-24 « Hind-F ». A ce jour seul 17 appareils sont en core en état de voler, soit 6 Mi-24D, 9 Mi-24V et 2 Mi-24P.
