Un helicóptero 'Puma' (HD.19) del Ala 49 del Ejército del Aire y con base en Son San Juan (Palma de Mallorca) ha sufrido un percance cuando hacía una escala técnica en el aeropuerto internacional Mohamed V de Casablanca (Marruecos), donde se ha tenido que quedar estacionado para ser arreglado.

El incidente tuvo lugar este martes poco después de mediodía, cuando el helicóptero, que se dirigía a Canarias para participar en el ejercicio de adiestramiento.

Según ha informado el Ejército del Aire, el incidente se ha producido al iniciar el rodaje tras haber repostado. La aeronave ha quedado estacionada en el aeropuerto internacional, pendiente de recuperación de los daños sufridos.

La tripulación del helicóptero 'Puma', formada por cuatro pilotos y dos mecánicos de vuelo, se encuentra bien y no ha sufrido ningún tipo de daño.

Indra's InShield System Wil Protect Spanish A400M Aircraft from Surface-to-Air Missile Attacks

• The Spanish Ministry of Defense has opted to equip its most advanced military transport aircraft with Indra's infrared countermeasure system

• InShield was developed following significant R&D from Indra, which is now launching a new latest generation DIRCM system on the market


MADRID --- Indra will equip Spanish A400M aircraft with its InShield infrared countermeasure system (DIRCM or Directional InfraRed Counter Measures), to protect said aircraft from surface-to-air missile attacks. The contract awarded by the Ministry of Defense for the characterization and verification of the first unit is worth 4 million euros and will run until 2018.

Deployment of the system will begin in 2017, following exhaustive testing and evaluations conducted on all aspects of the solution. InShield is a latest generation infrared countermeasure system based on research and development run by Indra.

The solution ensures that aircraft are protected against attacks using short-range heat-seeking missiles, which include so-called MANPADS. Such weapons are relatively cheap and easily acquired by terrorist groups on the black market. Attacks with such weapons target aircraft when they are at their most vulnerable, during landing and taking off.

The Indra InShield system is activated once a warning is received from the aircraft's missile detection system (Missile Warning System or MWS). When a missile launch is detected, the DIRCM system confirms the threat and precision targets the head of the missile, where the guiding sensor is located.

The countermeasure is then based on a laser beam that confuses the guidance system and diverts the missile from its trajectory. The entire process is automatic and takes just a few seconds, meaning it does not interfere with handling of the airplane. InShield can detect and divert multiple missiles simultaneously.

The solution developed by Indra differs from other systems on the market thanks to its capacity to cover the full infrared band, meaning the system does not need to identify each missile in order to counteract the same, and it will work with practically all such projectiles.

Indra has adapted the system to protect both transport and passenger plans, as well as helicopters.

Successful testing

Indra has demonstrated its expertise in DIRCM systems in a number of successful tests, including as part of the NATO's so-called EMBOW trials, to evaluate system capabilities for protecting air platforms, and SALT trials to evaluate how systems fare against real missiles. The InShield system also successfully completed its first flight onboard an INTA aircraft, demonstrating its capabilities in a number of maneuvers.

The company also ran a series of tests in 2011, with the support of the French General Directorate for Armament (DGA), which included more than 130 trials and 20 hours of in-flight operations, totaling some 5000 DIRCM exercises for protection against MANPADS (each trial included the simultaneous use of several different kinds of MANPADS). The system was then incorporated and certified for in-flight trials in a C-212 aircraft.

Le premier A400M destiné à l’Espagne !




Le premier Airbus A400M destiné à l'Armée de l'Air espagnole a terminé son processus de peinture et est apparu dans les couleurs du client. L'avion, numéro de production MSN44, a quitté l'atelier de peinture de la ligne d'assemblage finale (FAL) à Séville et va maintenant subir des essais au sol en vue de son premier vol à la mi-juillet. Puis serra la livraison au client. Au total l’Espagne a passé commande pour 27 exemplaires de l’A400M.

L’autre bonne nouvelle :

Une bonne nouvelle ne vient que rarement seule, L’Armée de l’air française a réceptionné sur la base aérienne 123 d’Orléans Bricy son premier A400M doté des nouvelles capacités tactiques. A noter tout de même, que pour l’instant, les A400M continuent d’être livrés avec le boîtier de transmission défaillant, ce qui oblige une révision toutes les 20 heures de vol. Il faudra attendre septembre prochain pour voir arriver la nouvelle pièce.

L’A400M « Atlas» :

L’A400M est un avion de transport militaire polyvalent conçu par la division militaire d’Airbus (Airbus Military). Il est pour l'instant commandé à 174 exemplaires par huit pays différents, à savoir l’Allemagne (la France, l’Espagne, la Belgique le Luxembourg, le Portugal et l’Angleterre, qui ont été rejoints par la suite par la Malaisie et la Turquie qui ont reconnu le potentiel de ce nouvel avion pour leurs propres besoins. La polyvalence est ce qui caractérise le mieux l’A400M, qui est conçu pour offrir des capacités à la fois tactiques et stratégiques. L’appareil peut transporter 37 tonnes de charge utile sur au moins 4700nm (8700 km) de distance. Sa soute est dimensionnée pour accueillir tous les chargements et véhicules répertoriés dans le cahier des charges européen ESR (Europen Staff Requirement). Cependant, l’A400M ne peut servir pour l’instant que de plateforme de transport aérien, le ravitaillement en vol n’étant, pour l’instant pas validé pour les hélicoptères et pose plusieurs problèmes. L’A400M incarne le premier avion de transport militaire lourd véritablement nouveau depuis ces trente dernières années. Offrant deux fois plus de performances et de capacités d’emport que les avions actuels qu’il remplacera.

Un hélicoptère espagnol de type « Puma » est actuellement stationné à l’aéroport Mohammed V de Casablanca en attendant qu’il soit réparé.

Selon le site 20minutos.es qui cite l’armée de l’air espagnole, l’hélicoptère militaire a eu un accident mardi en début d’après-midi lorsqu’une de ses pales à touché le sol à son atterrissage. Les occupants devaient effectuer une escale technique.

L’appareil provenait de Palma de Majorque et se dirigeait vers les les Îles Canaries dans le cadre d’un exercice militaire.

Pour l’instant, le « Puma » est toujours immobilisé sur place en attendant que du matériel en provenance de la péninsule soit ramené.

L'Espagne récupère les deux derniers Super Puma de l'armée de l'Air



Les deux derniers hélicoptères Super Puma de l'armée de l'Air française vont être transférés à la force aérienne espagnole. L'armée de l'air française s'en sépare, car ces appareils constituent une micro flotte, mais ils intéressent l'Espagne, qui utilise des Super Puma pour les missions de SAR et transport tactique (ils ont notamment servi en Afghanistan).

L'escadron 1/44 Solenzara, basé en Corse, exploite encore deux machines de ce type : la première quittera l'armée de l'air début juillet, et la deuxième, en septembre. Ces appareils ont encore récemment sauvé onze personnes en trois opérations sur une semaine.

Cette cession intervient en tuilage avec l'arrivée progressive du Puma à Solenzara-Ventiseri. L'escadron exploite un premier appareil depuis 2015, et, à terme, en gèrera une douzaine, dont six en permanence basé en Corse.

La montée en puissance du Puma permettra de faire du Solenzara un escadron tactique, capable d'être engagé en opex, en plus de sa mission de SAR.

Le contingent espagnol des Forces intérimaires des Nations unies (Finul) a affirmé dimanche avoir trouvé le corps sans vie de l'un de ses soldats dans le quartier général du contingent, à Ibl el-Saki, dans le sud du Liban. Le soldat est décédé suite à un coup de feu, selon les premiers éléments de l'enquête, affirme l'Agence nationale d'information.

Le sous-marin espagnol S-80 joue son avenir

Juillet sera le mois décisif pour le sous-marin espagnol S-80 : c’est ce mois-ci que sera prise la décision de poursuivre (ou non) la maturation du programme. Navantia et la marine espagnole se réunissent ces jours-ci pour mener la revue critique de conception, qui permettra de figer définitivement la conception du sous-marin.

Les sous-marins S-80 ont connu de graves problèmes dans la phase de conception et de construction. D’un côté, en raison du sur-poids constaté, le sous-marin ne pouvait pas remonter à la surface. De l’autre, l’entreprise chargée d’intégrer le système de propulsion anaérobie a fait faillite, ralentissant la fabrication de cet élément. Et lorsqu’une autre entreprise a ensuite été chargée du système, cela a provoqué un retard important dans la construction.

Navantia et la marine espagnole effectuent actuellement la revue critique de conception (Critical Desing Review). Il s’agit d’un processus de plusieurs jours durant lesquels Navantia met sur la table chaque aspect du projet et le présente à la marine espagnole. Cette revue du projet est déterminante pour le destin final des sous-marins S-80 Plus.

La revue a été préparée par Navantia depuis plusieurs semaines, mais c’est seulement en juillet qu’ont commencé les réunions avec la marine.

Ce sera la marine espagnole qui prendra la décision finale et qui autorisera la poursuite du projet, permettant la fin de la construction du S-81 Plus. L’objectif est de vérifier chaque étape accomplie jusqu’à maintenant pour ne pas reproduire à nouveau les erreurs commises dans le passé. Il s’agit aussi de respecter les standards de qualité pour continuer la construction sans nouvel incident.

Farnborough 2016: Spanish Navy AB212 upgrade advances

The third of seven upgraded AB212 helicopters will be delivered by October this year to the Spanish Ministry of Defense’s Directorate General of Armament and Material, Sener confirmed at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA 2016).

The delivery is part of Sener’s modernisation programme to increase the operational lives of the Spanish Navy’s AB212 helicopters, carried out in a joint venture with Inaer.

One main objective of the AB212 modernisation programme was to produce a tailored product.

Speaking at FIA 2016, Fernando Horcada, business development manager for Sener’s defence division, said: ‘We are ensuring that the customer has the opportunity to interact, although it makes [the project] more expensive and complicated.’

Giving an example, Horcada further explained ‘The navy has asked for new capabilities during the process. At the beginning, there was no requirement for IFR capability… now there is. We had already had the helicopter certified for VFR, so this is something that slowed down the certification process.’

The Spanish Navy has also requested small changes in display configuration that require further software certifications.

The modernisation will enable the AB212 helicopters to operate without restrictions in controlled civilian and military airspace, in accordance with new regulations.

Self-protection and defence systems will also allow for deployment in low-medium threat multinational missions. Upgrades include an electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) and an integrated tactical mission computer with GPS, EO/IR and AIS systems.

Horcada told Shephard that the AB212 flight systems have been certified and the focus was now on the certification of the integrated mission systems. The modernised cockpit is currently undergoing certification for night vision goggle compatibility.

The programme is expected to be completed in 2017. The prototype, first flown in December 2013 and undergoing continuous development, will be the last to be delivered. All helicopters will then be retrofitted to the same configuration.

Sener currently operates in 17 countries. Horcada told Shephard that the company is focusing on Latin America for further helicopter modernisation projects.

Les Hornet espagnols ont 30 ans


L'armée de l'air espagnole a célébré, le 15 juillet 2016, les trente années de services du F-18 sous ses couleurs. Les premiers EF-18 Hornet espagnols ont été livrés à l'armée de l'air en juillet 1986 dans le cadre du programme CLAEX (Acronyme de "Futur Avion de Chasse et d'Attaque") et en remplacement des F-4C.

Aujourd'hui, 85 appareils sont en service au sein des escadrons n°15, 12, 46 et du Centre de Logistique d'Armement et d'Expérimentation (CLAEX). Dans les années 1980, l'Espagne avait commandé un premier lot de 72 EF-18A/B qui ont été modernisés au standard F-18A+/B+. Dans les années 1990, cette flotte a été complétée par un lot de F/A-18A ayant précédemment appartenus à l'US Navy. Ces derniers ont également été portés au standard 18A+.

Entre 1994 et 2002, les Hornet espagnols ont participé aux opérations dans les Balkans "Deny Flight", "Deliberate Force" et "Allied Force" depuis la base de Aviano en Italie. Ils ont effectué à cette occasion les premières opérations armées de l'Espagne depuis les années 1950.

Le EF-18 n'est pas le seul chasseur en service dans l'armée de l'Air espagnole qui aligne également une cinquantaine de Typhoon (21 Typhoon supplémentaires doivent encore être livrés.). Ces appareils ont participé plusieurs fois aux opérations de police des airs de l'OTAN notamment dans les états baltes.

The Executive Committee of the Ministry of Defense has approved the Critical Design Review (CDR) of the S-80 submarine being built by the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena. This is a very important milestone for the future of the program and the shipyard, since it involves the final “freeze” of the submarine design, and allows its transition to production. In this regard, the enlargement of the boat’s pressure hull was completed in April, and its five sections are already available for the incorporation of its internal structures.

The approval of the CDR by the Ministry of Defence also demonstrates the technical feasibility of the submarine program. Achieving this milestone means finally overcoming the design problems suffered by the program in the past. The program therefore is transferred back to the shipyard, whose highly advanced transformation allows it to face the future with optimism.

The director of the Shipyard and of the S-80 Submarine Program, Admiral José Manuel Sanjurjo Jul, stressed the importance of the approval milestone. “The program for the design and construction of the S-80 submarine is the most complex engineering project that is being undertaken at the national level. Therefore, the technical difficulties that have appeared throughout the program are normal in the development and implementation of a project that requires unprecedented technological solutions. A project like this places demands on the leading edge of numerous technologies, which means taking risks,”

Passing the CDR formalizes the complete redesign of the submarine, which will thus have a greater length and a larger displacement, without having lost the capabilities that make it a conventional submarine of the next generation.

The possibility of having a national design for the construction of submarines supposes technological independence in one essential aspect of national defense. In addition, the success of the program has several benefits: on the one hand, national defense, because the survival of the submarine weapon is at stake; on the other, Spain’s technological image and, third, the industrial and technological weight that Navantia Cartagena represents for the entire Region of Murcia.

Latest AEGIS Combat System Interoperability Tested Between DDG 51 and Spanish Navy Frigate




The U.S. Navy conducted a series of cooperative air defense test exercises with the Spanish Navy that culminated in live missile firing events using the latest Aegis Weapon System, July 20-21. This event was not only the first interoperability test of the latest Aegis Baseline 9.C1 with a foreign ship, but also the first combined Combat Systems Ship Qualification Trial with that country's navy since 2007. The destroyer USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) and the Spanish frigate Cristobol Colón (F 105) participated in the testing.

Reprogramming Annuities of the Armed Forces Special Modernization Programs

The Council of Ministers has authorized the rescheduling of the annual payments of the Law on Special Modernization Program, as a consequence of the reprogramming of the payment schedule for the A400M transport aircraft program.

This requires modifying the limits established in the Agreement of Council of Ministers on 19 June 2015 by which it authorized the Ministry of Defence to undertake spending commitments for the years 2016-2030.

The decision of the Ministry of Defense not to operate thirteen of the twenty aircraft initially planned, and to explore various avenues to search for different alternatives for the final disposal of that part of the fleet, requires Cabinet approval to authorize the financial reprogramming of the A400M program.

The option raised before this new scenario – to delay deliveries of the "inoperable" aircraft -- does not imply, in any case, the need to raise the spending ceiling of the Program.

Implementation of the Remotely-Piloted High-Altitude, Long-Range Aircraft Program

The Council of Ministers today [Aug. 5] approved the Agreement on Implementation of Phase 1 (Definition Phase) of the European Remotely-Piloted Medium-Altitude, Long-Range (MALE) Aircraft,” for an estimated value of 17,589,000.00 euros today.

This agreement has its origin in the "Framework Agreement" signed between the Minister of Defence of the French Republic, the Federal Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Ministry of Defence of the Italian Republic and the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Spain on cooperation on a Remotely-Piloted High-Altitude, Long-Range Aircraft Program (MALE RPAS).

The European MALE RPAS program meets an operational need for the armed forces, which require a capability for an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft system based on an unmanned aircraft, to support operations both within and outside national territory.

Participation of Spanish industry

The proposed solution is the development of a remotely-piloted aircraft system developed in the European Union, with the participation of the Spanish industry, so the purpose of the Agreement is to ensure the continuation of this program in which Spain is a party.

The purpose of this Agreement is the implementation of Phase 1, consisting of studies and analysis of current capabilities available to European industry to develop these systems, known as drones, and which will be carried out by the aerospace industries of the participating countries.

During this phase, which will last two years, the definition of the system, consisting of aerial platforms, sensors, ground control stations, data processing stations for information, and communications and data terminals will be defined, along with the requisite ground support equipment.

The Implementation Agreement shall be valid for four years after signing, unless the contributing countries unanimously decide to terminate or extend it before then.

The first Airbus A400M tactical airlifter ordered by the Spanish Air Force has made its maiden flight, marking a key milestone towards its delivery. The aircraft, known as MSN44, took off from Seville, Spain where the A400M Final Assembly Line is located at 15:25 local time (GMT+1) on 5 September and landed back on site 3 hours and 45 minutes later.
