Yeah it's crazy, probably the bilan in 2-3000 once all this GS are done and accounted for. I am more surprised by how many people got caught while shopping, while driving, etc. like they didn't expect the level of possible carnage while the weather was clearly predictable; was there a lack of communication and urgency? Or was there poor adhérence by people to the alerts? While the damage couldn't be prevented given the level of rainfall it's crazy to see the level of unnecessary lives lost; things can be replaced but not people.
Too bad they didn't accept help quickly, I am sure more helicopters and planes to bring at least water, temporary shelters, food would have helped the population cope as with floods like this there are rarely people to actually save since water and mud are fast killers compared to earthquake rubble etc.
I think there are some very clear takeaways for all the Mediterranean countries, we should be extra careful in the summer with fires (and water shortages) and more tropical winters with catastrophic floods
