The Ukrainian crisis, which reflects the shift from asymmetric fighting to high-intensity interstate conflict, is leading EU member states to decide to invest more in their defense and security capabilities. Several countries have already significantly increased their budgets.

Besides Europe, many countries are reflecting on this paradigm shift, which requires a rethinking of the models and capabilities of their armed and security forces in order to adjust to new threats.

, the world's leading land and airland defense and security exhibition, will be held from 13 to 17 June in Paris - France. It can directly and practically contribute to these reflections and perspectives through the very wide range of solutions presented, covering the entire spectrum of capabilities, from proven equipment to the latest technological innovations.

EUROSATORY will also be a privileged place for exchange, notably through the numerous conferences hosted and a large number of official delegations and experts attending.

Now, three months away from the event, in a context of regression of the COVID 19 pandemic and lowering of sanitary restrictions in France, EUROSATORY continues to expand with already more than 1,200 exhibitors from sixty countries registered, large groups, SMEs, and start-ups.

EUROSATORY is shaping the future of land and airland defense and security.

Eurosatory 2022: Significant presence of the airland sector at the exhibition

POSTED ON THURSDAY, 12 MAY 2022 10:44

Eurosatory 2022, the world's leading land and air-land defence and security exhibition will be held from 13 to 17 June at the Parc des expositions of Paris-Nord Villepinte. It offers an essential business platform for all the sector's players. This year, Eurosatory will focus on the air-land sector with more than 250 exhibitors already registered. People interested in aeronautics should not miss it!

The Airbus H145M can be equipped with Airbus’ HForce weapons system – an incremental, modular and cost-efficient weapon system that can be used on any military version of Airbus’ civil helicopter range (H125M, H145M and H225M). Three different packages are available that increase the capability of the aircraft, from ballistic firing through helmet-mounted display, to ballistic firing through the electro-optical system (EOS) or guided weapons firing. (Picture source: Airbus)

Given the current geopolitical situation, the air-land sector is more relevant than ever. Air defence, the use of helicopters and drones, etc. are major concerns for European governments, but also for other regions. This is reflected by the fact that more than 17% of the registered exhibitors are active in the air-land sector. Among them Airbus, MBDA, Thales, Rafael, Diehl, BAE Systems, Daher, Kongsberg, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rheinmetall, oketsan, Hanwha Defense, Elbit Sytems, Eurosam, Norinco... Throughout the 5 days of the exhibition, the professionals of the sector will have the opportunity to meet a large number of aeronautical subcontractors working in defence, vehicle and missile subcontracting, as well as in the aeronautical and space field.
Four helicopters will be exhibited at Eurosatory: three American helicopters, the Blackhawk, the Apache and for the first time the Chinook and Airbus' H145M... a unique opportunity to see the equipment in action.
At Eurosatory, more than a hundred registered companies offer drones and drone systems: among these, Aeronautics (Israel), Aerovironment (USA), Elistair (France), Hongkong Himark Electron Model, Skyborne Technologies (Australia). Almost all types of drones are on display. Visitors will be able to discover mapping UAVs, UAVs and tethered balloons, tactical UAVs, dual-propeller staggered-pitch UAVs, biomimetic UAVs, fixed-wing UAVs, and micro-UAVs with docking stations, swarm UAVs, mini-UAVs and many others.
The exhibition is also an international leader in the anti-aircraft field, with a unique range of air defence systems. More than 70 registered companies present products and services in this field, including AP-Flyer SP. Z O.O. (Poland), ApolooShield (Israel), Digital Research and Consulting Co.,LTD (Thailand)...
In addition to the products and services offer, Eurosatory offers many conference sessions on the following themes: "Helicopters /Aerocomabt" and "Drones/anti-drones fighting" to further develop the aeronautical segment. The programme includes*:
• Aerocombat in the Sahel–Saharan Strip - RETEX – French Army Staff
• Future airmobile capability – French Army Staff
• French military helicopters, excellence in the field of aerocombat – GICAT
• NGRC, vertical lift innovations to enhance operational capabilities - NATO/NSPA
• Tactical reconnaissance drone system - French Army Staff
• The fight against drones - French Army Staff
• Drones and robots tech challenges: autonomous use, swarms and drones/robots interactions - Drones4SEC
• Drones and robots use cases in defence and public safety - Drones4SEC
• UAV Systems – GICAT
• The laser weapon, a game-changer against drones - CILAS
On the Eurosatory LAB, the exhibition's start-up area, don't miss the GICAT master class - "State of the art in anti-drone combat" with a keynote by Christophe Salomon (IGA), Deputy Director General, Thales Land and Air Systems.
With more than 1,500 registered exhibitors from 60 countries, over 57,000 professional visitors expected and about 200 official delegations invited, Eurosatory is the must-attend exhibition for all the airland defence and security players!

Eurosatory 2022: Discover latest and newest defense technologies

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, 01 JUNE 2022 12:47

The hallmark of EUROSATORY, and what makes it the premier Defense & Security show in the world, is the very broad and competitive spectrum of capabilities presented. It is also the technological exhibition par excellence, presenting all the capacities able to respond to a high-intensity conflict with a ten or even twenty-year perspective. Eurosatory will take place in Paris, France from 13  to 17 June 2022. Follow all activities of Eurosatory with our Official News Online Publication and Official Web TV of the event.

perspective.(Picture source COGES)

EUROSATORY is a formidable showcase of solutions and services for both the most demanding capacity questions, as complex as the structured force systems (coordinated ground-air defense intervening in the 3rd dimension, digitization of land and air-land forces, etc.) and for wishes for so-called “off the shelf” acquisitions, including the simplest: assault rifles, for example. Therefore, the conflict in Ukraine highlights EUROSATORY's set of proposal capacities.

The dynamic demonstrations at Eurosatory present the mobility capabilities of a vehicle in n actual way, its weapon system operation being simulated by projection on a large screen with comments from a speaker.

The major product families presented in dynamic demonstrations will be land robotics, armored mobility, rescue and firefighting. There will be two types of demonstrations: those of the units of the French armed forces and internal security units, and those of the exhibitors.

For the first one, the French Army is planning a large-scale demonstration highlighting many of its components, including special forces. There will also be demonstrations by elite units of the Gendarmerie (GIGN), Police (RAID, BRI), CRS, and Paris firefighters. For the second one, presentations of 4x4 armored vehicles will be performed with different payloads, fire vehicles, and robotics, and even swarms of drones.

The search for innovation will be approached from very complementary aspects. First, a EUROSATORY LAB of 1,000 m² is dedicated to no less than 80 start-ups with numerous animations that will also appear on the technological centers and on the stands of the exhibitors. European structures developing defense research and innovation will also be present at the show.

Discover Tiger one of the most modern attack helicopter at Eurosatory 2022

POSTED ON THURSDAY, 09 JUNE 2022 18:24

Eurosatory 2022, the International Defense Exhibition in Paris, France, will see a star showcased in its air section: the Eurocopter Tiger, a twin-engine attack helicopter that first entered service in 2003. It is manufactured by Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter). Following their languages, in Germany it is known as the Tiger; in France and Spain, it is called the Tigre.

Development of the Tiger started during the Cold War, and it was initially intended as an anti-tank helicopter platform. France and Germany chose to proceed with the Tiger, developing it as a multi-role attack helicopter. It achieved operational readiness in 2008.
The Tiger has the distinction of being the first all-composite helicopter developed in Europe; even the earliest models also incorporate other advanced features such as a glass cockpit, stealth technology, and high agility to increase its survivability. Improved variants have since entered service, outfitted with more powerful engines and compatible with a wider range of weapons. Since the type's introduction to service,

On 18 June 1999, Germany and France publicly placed orders for an initial batch of 160 Tiger helicopters, 80 for each nation, valued at €3.3 billion. On 22 March 2002, the first production Tiger was rolled out in a large ceremony held at Eurocopter's Donauwörth factory; although production models began initial acceptance trials in 2003, the first official delivery to the French Army took place on 18 March 2005; the first official Tiger delivery to Germany followed on 6 April 2005. Germany reduced its order to 57 in March 2013. In 2008, OCCAR estimated the project cost at €7,300,000,000. France's FY2013 budget put their share of the project at €6.4bn (~US$8.7bn), implying a program cost of €14.7bn (~US$20.1bn) to the three main partners. The 2013 French White Paper changed the mix to 60 HAP and 20 of the more expensive HAD; at FY2013 prices, their HAP cost €27.4m/unit (~US$37m) and their HAD €36.1m/unit (~US$49m), including development costs the French Tigers cost €80m (~US$109m) each. In December 2015, France placed an additional order for 7 HAD helicopters, with the plan to upgrade the entire fleet to the HAD standard by 2025 for a total of 67 helicopters.

Since the type's introduction to service, Tigers have been used in combat in Afghanistan, Libya, and Mali.

Eurosatory 2022: Rheinmetall from Germany launches its new KF51 Panther MBT Main Battle Tank

POSTED ON MONDAY, 13 JUNE 2022 18:58

At Eurosatory 2022, International Defense Exhibition in Paris, German company Rheinmetall launches its new KF51 Panther, the latest generation of Main Battle Tank concept armed with a 130mm cannon. The main battle tank concept sets new standards in all areas – lethality, protection, reconnaissance, networking, and mobility.

In developing the KF51, Rheinmetall not only set out to modernize existing main battle tank concepts. Starting from scratch, it completely reconceived the platform. The KF51 Panther can be easily updated and equipped with the latest capabilities and functions. Its advanced, modular, open NGVA system architecture enables iterative development, which can then be updated in harmony with innovation cycles. The KF51 is the first representative of a new generation of combat vehicles. Soon, future innovations will enable environmentally friendly peacetime operations and further optimization regarding automation and combat effectiveness.
The KF51 Panther features an innovative operating concept. It is basically designed for a three-person crew: the commander and gunner in the turret and the driver in the chassis, where an additional operator station is available for a weapons and subsystems specialist or for command personnel such as the company commander or battalion commander.
Designed in accordance with NGVA standards, the tank's fully digital architecture enables seamless integration of sensors and effectors both within the platform as well as into a networked "system of systems". Operation of sensors and weapons can be transferred instantly between crew members. Each operator station can take over the tasks and roles from others, while retaining full functionality. Since the turret and weapons can also be controlled from the operator stations in the chassis, variants of the KF51 Panther with unmanned turrets or completely remote-controlled vehicles are also planned in the future.

ammunition handling system. (Picture source: Army Recognition)

With its main armament, the 130mm Rheinmetall Future Gun System, the KF51 Panther offers superior firepower against all current and foreseeable mechanized targets. In addition, further armament options are available to provide concentrated firepower for long-range strikes and against multiple targets.

The Rheinmetall Future Gun System (FGS) consists of a 130 mm smoothbore gun and a fully automatic ammunition handling system. The autoloader holds 20 ready rounds. Compared to current 120 mm systems, the FGS delivers over fifty percent greater effectiveness at significantly longer ranges of engagement. The FGS can fire kinetic energy (KE) rounds as well as programmable airburst ammunition and corresponding practice rounds.
A 12.7 mm coaxial machine gun complements the main weapon. Several options for the integration of remotely controlled weapon stations (RCWS) offer flexibility for proximity and drone defense. The KF51 Panther presented at Eurosatory 2022 is equipped with Rheinmetall's new "Natter" (adder) RCWS in the 7.62 variant.
Integrating a launcher for HERO 120 loitering munition from Rheinmetall's partner UVision into the turret is equally possible. This enhances the KF51's ability to strike targets beyond the direct line of sight.

All weapon systems are connected to the commander's and gunner's optics and the fire control computer via the fully digitalized NGVA architecture. This enables both a hunter-killer and a killer-killer function and thus instantaneous target engagement – in the future also supported by artificial intelligence (AI).

 Eurosatory 2022 (13 au 17 juin à Paris) Rheinmetall_from_Germany_launches_its_new_KF51_Panther_MBT_Main_Battle_Tank_Eurosatory_2022_925_002

The Panther has a fully integrated, comprehensive, weight-optimized protection concept, incorporating active, reactive and passive protection technologies. Without a doubt, the concept's most compelling feature is its active protection against KE threats. It increases the level of protection without compromising the weight of the system.

Rheinmetall's Top Attack Protection System (TAPS) wards off threats from above, while the fast-acting ROSY smoke/obscurant systems conceal the KF51 from enemy observation. Moreover, its digital NGVA architecture enables the integration of additional sensors for detecting launch signatures. Thanks to its pre-shot detection capability, the KF51 Panther can recognize and neutralize threats at an early stage. Designed to operate in a contested electromagnetic environment, the KF51 is fully hardened against cyber threats.

The KF51 Panther builds on the mobility concept of the Leopard 2. With an operational weight of just 59 tons, it delivers far greater mobility than current systems and has a maximum operating range of around 500 kilometers. Without prior preparation, it fits into the AMovP-4L profile, something no other current main battle tank upgrade can do. Consequently, the KF51's tactical and strategic mobility set it apart.

Thanks to the panoramic SEOSS optical sensor and EMES main combat aiming device, the commander and gunner are both able to observe and engage targets independently of each other, both day and night, while a stabilized daylight and IR optic with integrated laser rangefinder is available to both. In addition, via a display in the fighting compartment, the crew has a 360°, round-the-clock view of the vehicle's surroundings. Integrated, unmanned aerial reconnaissance systems enhance the crew's situational awareness in built-up areas and in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle. With these, the crew can also conduct reconnaissance under armour protection and share the results with other actors in a networked manner.

Eurosatory 2022: Rheinmetall to promotes UVision loitering munition in Europe

POSTED ON MONDAY, 13 JUNE 2022 18:57

Loitering Munition – remotely controlled airborne precision-strike munitions – combines the operational advantages of drones and guided missiles. The systems provide front-line forces with a combination of advanced intelligence gathering and target acquisition capabilities along with extended range firepower, which until now could only be achieved by complex coordination between several units and echelons.

In Octobre 2021, Rheinmetall and its partner UVision Air Ltd. have agreed on a cooperation to market UVision's HERO loitering ammunition family in Europe. At Eurosatory 2022, both companies will present the integration of different HERO Loitering Munition (LM) systems in manned and unmanned vehicles. For example, Rheinmetall's Mission Master XT robotic vehicle will be on display as a fire support vehicle with HERO 120 LM. Likewise, the new KF51 combat vehicle will be equipped with an LM Mission Pod for launching HERO 120s in addition to its main armament, the 130mm smoothbore gun.

Combat power multiplier

The term loitering munition is derived from the munition’s ability to remain undetected in the airspace above the target area for an extended period of time and to strike when the right moment arrives. Forces in a number of partner countries in Europe and NATO are already using them, and others are currently exploring ways to introduce this new generation of remotely controlled munitions into their arsenal. Versatile and easy to operate, Loitering Munitions can be used in national and allied defence as well as in low-intensity conflicts or peace stabilisation operations. LM offers the military user considerable cost advantages over guided missiles with comparable effectiveness and at the same time the ability to conduct reconnaissance and track the target in the military operation from the air over a longer period of time. An important tactical advantage of the field-proven UVision HERO systems lies in their high precision strike capabilities and thus a minimal risk of collateral damage.

 Eurosatory 2022 (13 au 17 juin à Paris) Eurosatory-2022-rheinmetall-to-promotes-uvision-loitering-munition-in-europe-925-001
UVision HERO-120 Loitering Munition at Eurosatory 2022 (Picture source: Army Recognition)

UVision offers several high-precision loitering munition models with its HERO product family, which differ in terms of possible ranges, flight times (short, medium, high) and payload (weight of active charge) – required for a variety of targets. Lighter models are man-portable and specially designed to be carried as highly effective precision munition by infantry forces.

A Loitering Munition system comprises – comparable to a guided missile system – a single or multicanister launcher, a loitering munition (or a number of LM’s if the latter), communication and the ground control module for the operator. The Loitering Munitions themselves are remote-controlled small air vehicles, each of which can attack ground targets – even beyond the line of sight

All models are equipped with high-resolution electro-optical sensors and infrared cameras that enable the operator to locate, monitor and ultimately engage even time-critical low-signature targets. In this way, enemy targets can be located, tracked and verified to deliver precise strikes. The HERO system can abort an attack in mid-air, return to flight mode and then resume the attack or reassign targets, giving operators great tactical flexibility on the modern battlefield.

The unique design of the HERO series makes it possible to conduct precision attacks in urban areas or remote locations while avoiding collateral damage, while adhering to strict rules of engagement. If an attack is aborted, the systems can be recalled and another target selected or retrieved for future use via an on-board recovery system. Continuous monitoring in accordance with the "human in the loop" principle enables calculated and pinpoint attacks that are precisely tailored to the timing and conditions of the constantly changing situation. The constant recording of the operation on the ground station provides proof of compliance with the strict rules of engagement.

HERO ammunition is already in use in a number of customer countries. Most recently, in the summer of 2021, the US Marine Corps decided to equip operational vehicles with HERO 120 LM systems.

The Sherpa A2M is an adequate answer to the tactical challenges met and created by artillery in high-intensity warfare: mobility, protection, close support to the troops on the ground, and mobile counterbattery options at the fraction of the price of a Self-Propelled Gun (SPG).

The alliance of Arquus, NTGS, and Thales allows the application of a truly complete solution delivering a unique indirect fire support solution, suitable for infantry support, collaborative armed forces troops and Special Forces, as well as autonomous artillery units looking for a high level of mobility and protection.

The Sherpa A2M combines the excellent mobility of a Sherpa Light, the proven Deployable Mortar System by NTGS, and the 120mm rifled mortar barrel by Thales, into one full fully integrated new solution.

Thanks to Thales capability, the vehicle embeds 120 mm rifled ammunition and in the future the mortar laser-guided ammunition. The rifled mortar barrel is three times more precise than smoothbore mortar.

Due to this superior efficiency and accuracy, it can achieve similar operational effects with much fewer shots; around 4 times fewer rounds are needed than for a smoothbore mortar.

NTGS provides its skills in global systems with the fire control system in the back of the vehicle. This system conveys information about targets and points of interest, which represents a significant strategic advantage.

Thanks to their expertise, the A2M Sherpa delivers control across all mission operations and is already combat-proven. The mortar and tube from NTGS and Thales are qualified both by NATO and by different armies.

The Sherpa Light is a multipurpose, 4x4 armored vehicle, designed by Arquus to provide a wide array of versions and customizations for all needs and missions, built on a single, proven base for increased commonality and ease of maintenance.

It is a modern, mature, new-generation vehicle, which is built on many years of industrial experience, operational deployments on the battlefield, and maintenance. It is protected against ballistic and mine as well as improvised explosive device threats with a STANAG 4569-certified protection, which ensures a high level of safety for the crew inside the vehicle during operations.

The Sherpa A2M can carry 40 rounds of 120mm mortar ammunition in the rear and possibly additional ammunition in the cabin, depending on user requirements. It has a range of up to 8,2 km with standard rifled ammunition and up to 13km with a rocket-assisted projectile, allowing it to enhance the protection of the embarked soldiers by engaging units without being hit (Shoot & Scoot).

Combining the expertise of these three companies ensures the highest level of quality for each of the Sherpa A2M’s features: protected tactical mobility, ruggedness, superior firepower and accuracy, as well as easily deployable systems and intuitive fire control.

At Eurosatory 2022, the Sherpa A2M is presented with a Hornet Lite RCWS fitted with a 7.62mm MG for the vehicle's self-protection.

Eurosatory 2022: Ostara displays Krampus Mk1 all-terrain vehicle

POSTED ON TUESDAY, 14 JUNE 2022 19:01

Lithuanian developers of Krampus Mk1 all-terrain vehicle (ATV) are getting prepared for the major European arms show and joke that their hybrid diesel-electric propulsion buggy is ready for “bucket missions” against the enemies on the battlefield.

Hybrid diesel-electric propulsion in its silent mode ensures a stealthy approach of the vehicle to the mission area, where the crew of two can dismount and send the vehicle autonomously towards the forward-firing positions.

Krampus Mk1 is designed for a 500-kilograms payload, which may include remotely controlled anti-tank, killer-drone-launching, or anti-aircraft weapons systems. After accomplishing its fire mission, Krampus ATV is designed to return to pick up its crew and continue the manned mission.

The designers of Krampus Mk1 ATV also envision vehicle use in non-military areas, such as border protection, law enforcement, environmental control, mining – any scenario where a mission may require autonomous or remotely-controlled operations for extended hours, or work in a hazardous environment.

The premiere of Krampus ATV by Ostara is expected to take place at Eurosatory 2022 exhibition in Paris, from June 13 to 17. The vehicle will be displayed on the Lithuanian National stand, organized by VersliLietuva, a non-profit agency under the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania.

Ostara has already reached level 6 technology readiness for its Krampus ATV project. In 2021, the team of developers concluded the field-testing phase and implemented the necessary corrections and upgrades to the vehicle’s systems and subsystems. Earlier this year, technology solutions providing remote and autonomous controls of the vehicle have been implemented.

Krampus Mk1 has an integrated diesel generator and powerful battery pack, providing a range of 1000 km. In silent mode, when two electric motors are powered only by a battery pack, the vehicle range can reach 200 km. Ostara says that its Krampus Mk1 ATV demonstrator has already laid foundations for the beginning of the next Krampus Mk2 prototype.

Based on the proven and battle-tested HUMVEE vehicle platform, the HUMVEE Saber is redefining survivability with 360-degree kinetic and blast protection in a truly light tactical vehicle. For Eurosatory, AM General partnered with Elta North America, to upfit the vehicle with a mobile Counter Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) that is designed to track, identify, and deter/defeat various UAS while the vehicle is in motion. Additionally, the vehicle features MBrace, an advanced occupant protection system by IMMI, to add head and neck protection during adverse events. Finally, the vehicle also features innovative electronics from ArmorWorks that allows for enhanced situational awareness with multiple field view options with thermal and infrared camera operation. The technology insertions by leading industry partners add higher levels of security and survivability to an already rugged, mobile, and highly protected light tactical vehicle.

The company is also displaying the versatility of Soft Recoil Technology (SRT), which is currently undergoing characterization tests by the U.S. Army and can be integrated into existing weapons systems and mounted on indigenous vehicles. AM General and Mandus Group have teamed up with Supacat to display the HMT Extenda Mk2 upfitted with a 105mm lightweight gun containing SRT, transforming the vehicle into a more lethal mobile weapons system.

The HMT Extenda Mk2 is a light tactical vehicle that can be simply and easily integrated with equipment, which provides protection for the crew and vehicle in a variety of theatres. Mounting the 105mm gun with SRT onto the vehicle allows for “shoot and scoot” capability – it can quickly deploy, fire, and displace, increasing survivability from counter-battery fire.

The HMT Extenda MK2 showcases the flexibility of the AM General /Mandus SRT and its ability to convert existing light vehicle platforms into self-propelled howitzer systems. Phil Applegarth, Director of Supacat explains, “the integration of the 105mm Light Gun Barrel and the AM General/Mandus Soft Recoil System onto the Supacat HMT Extenda Mk2 converts the platform into a long-range artillery vehicle, providing enhanced mobility, avoiding static positions, and enticing counter fire. The ability to fire and maneuver without pulling a trailer exists with Soft Recoil Technology, protecting both the crew and vehicle – this is why we are working with this technology. Protecting lives is at the heart of everything we do”.

The innovative tracked drive module has an increased level of protection and mobility that is otherwise only comparable to that of heavy tracked vehicles. Since the BOXER tracked is conceptually based on the modular system of the BOXER vehicle family, the drive module can be combined with all BOXER mission modules already introduced.

With this new version of the BOXER, the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) presents a new generation of light tank offering the firepower of a main battle tank and the mobility of an IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) with a combat weight of only 45 tons.

The design of the tracked version of the Boxer consists of three main parts with the driver position at the front right side of the hull with the powerpack on its left. The turret is mounted at the rear part of the hull while the vehicle is also able to accommodate up to six infantrymen.

The tracked version of the Boxer has a crew of three including a driver, commander and gunner. It can reach a top road speed up to 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 500 km.

The RCT120 turret mounted on the tracked version of the Boxer is remotely controlled and all the combat operations of the weapon systems can be controlled under the armor of the hull. The main armament consists of one 120mm cannon which has a traverse of 360° with elevation from -10° to +20°. The vehicle carries a total of 15 ammunition. The second armament of the vehicle includes one coaxial machine gun of 12.7mm caliber and a launcher station for SPIKE anti-tank guided missiles.

The tracked version of the BOXER offers the same level of protection as the wheeled version which provides protection against the firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. The vehicle is also fitted with APS (Active Protection System). The System’s hard-kill concept is based on intercepting the threat by launching a small warhead and initiating it at a safe distance from the protected platform, at a precisely calculated moment, and defeating or destructing the threat through a shock-wave effect.

The new Rila 8x8 armored vehicle in IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) configuration represents a new generation of combat vehicles combining high levels of mobility, protection, and firepower.

The IAG Rila 8x8 IFV design consists of three main parts, with the driver positioned on the front left side of the hull with the powerpack on its right, a turret is mounted in the middle of the roof, and the troop's compartment at the rear. The vehicle has a combat weight of 36 tons and the hull provides ballistic and mine protection up to Level 4A/4B STANAG 4569. The rear part of the hull can accommodate up to nine infantrymen.

At Eurosatory 2022, the Rila 8x8 IFV is fitted with a Guardian 30 RWS (Remote Weapon Station) developed by the Spanish company Escribano. The turret is armed with one Bushmaster Mk44 30mm automatic cannon and one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The turret is also equipped with six smoke grenade dischargers at the right front part and six more on the left side. In option, the turret can be also armed with anti-tank guided missile launchers.

In terms of mobility, the IAG Rila 8x8 IFV is powered by a 13L Diesel engine developing 540 to 720 hp. It can run at a maximum road speed of 105 km/h with a maximum cruising range of up to 720 km at a speed of 80 km/h. The vehicle can negotiate a gradient of 60% and side slopes of 30%. It can climb a vertical step of 0.65m and cross a trench of 2 m.
