Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan may procure "BAL-E" Coastal Missile System

According to Russian business daily Kommersant the Republic of Azerbaijan has expressed its intend to procure "BAL-E" Coastal Missile System from Russia. "BAL-E" is the export version of the BAL missile complex in service with the coastal missile unit of the Russian Navy Caspian Flotilla.



According to " Kommersant" Azerbaijan has been eyeing this missile system for a long time because of its need to protect its coastal zone of the Caspian Sea . Azerbaijan previously expressed interest in the "Bastion" coastal missile system with "Yakhont" anti-ship missile, however Moscow never gave its approval for this system.

Azerbaijan is a frequent customer of Russian weapons: Between 2010 and 2012 , contracts for the purchase of two battalions of air defense missile systems S-300PMU- 2 , several batteries of Tor- 2ME air defense systems, more than 70 helicopters for various purposes, and 100 T-90S tanks and 100 BMP-3 , self-propelled artillery battalions " MSTA-S" , multiple rocket launchers "Smerch" have been signed totaling at least $ 4 billion.



The Bal-E mobile coastal missile system with the KH-35 type anti-ship missile was developed on the order of the Russian Navy in the late 1990s and adopted for service in 2008. The system consists of a self-propelled command control and communications centre, self-propelled launchers, a transport and reloader machine and communications vehicle, a total of up to 11 special vehicles.

The coastal missile system is capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 120 kilometers at any time and under any weather conditions. The time of deployment after a march - 10 minutes, cruising range - 850 kilometers, ammunition - 64 missiles, the number of missiles in one salvo - 32.

Report: Azerbaijan buying Israeli coast-guard vessels

Jane's confirms that Muslim nation purchased 12 boats, based on photographs on website of Azerbaijani president.

Azerbaijan is reportedly acquiring 21 new coast-guard vessels from Israel, according to Eurasianet.org.

While Azerbaijan made no formal announcement about such a purchase, Jane's, the defense and intelligence publication, confirmed Thursday that the Azerbaijan Coast Guard ordered six Shaldag Mk V patrol boats and six Saar 62 offshore patrol vessels.

Jane's based its assertion on images obtained in mid-July showing details of work being done on the vessels at a new shipyard. Images of the vessels are available on the website of the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

According to Eurasianet, posters exhibited at the formal opening of the shipyard by President Aliyev "suggested that Azerbaijan was looking at a more heavily armed Israeli ship, the Saar 72 corvette."

Azerbaijan has purchased arms from Israel in past.

In 2012, Israel signed a $1.6 billion arms deal with Azerbaijan, committing to sell drones and anti-aircraft missile defense systems to Baku. Last year, Iran warned Azerbaijan regarding its purchase of Gabriel-5 anti-ship missiles, the Iranian Fars News Agency reported.

Azerbaijan has received a second upgraded Buk-MB SAM battalion from Belarus Source: OKB TSP


The Azerbaijani armed forces have received a second battalion of Belarus-upgraded Buk-MB medium range surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems.

Details of the deliveries were revealed to IHS Jane's by a military-diplomatic source at the ADEX-2014 international defence exhibition in Baku.

According to the source, two battalions of Buk-MB SAMs have now been delivered to the Azerbaijan Armed Forces. Each battalion comprises six 9A310 MB self-propelled launchers, three 9A39 MB launcher loaders, 9M38M1 and 9M317 surface-to-air missiles, a 80K6M radar, a 9S470 MB combat control post, and logistics support equipment.

Azerbaijan's first battalion of Buk-MB SAMs was seen for the first time at the Azerbaijan armed forces day parade in June 2013. OKB TSP, the developer of the Buk-MB SAM, has been upgrading former Russian Buk SAM systems in Belarus under a contract awarded directly from Azerbaijan in 2010.

The Buk-MB is an in-depth modernization of the Buk system, involving a thorough overhaul and complete replacement of their subsystems and subassemblies. Azerbaijan's Buk-MB SAMs use Russian-made 9M38M1 and 9M317 single-stage solid fuel guided missiles. The 9M38M1 missiles have a speed of 850 m/s, range of 35 km, operational altitude of 22.5 km, and aerial target hit probability of 0.71. The 9M317 SAM have a velocity 1,230 m/s, range of 42 km, operational altitude 25 km and aerial target hit probability of 0.78.

Kazakhstan and some other countries, including African nations, have shown an interest in the Buk-MB system, the source told IHS Jane's . "Some of them (African nations) seek to obtain the Buk SAMs but cannot afford acquiring a battalion in standard configuration. Therefore it is possible to offer them a SAM configuration with four launchers since the system itself can be easily reconfigured. Also, the Buk-MB can be interesting to some countries of Latin America and the Middle East."

OKB TSP stated its Buk variant is designed for countries unable to independently develop military equipment and that find the defence products of the leading manufacturers of military hardware too costly. "All the obsolete equipment of the SAMs has been replaced by modern counterparts from Belarus. In creating the Buk-MB more than 100 new devices and subsystems have been developed, which became key components of the modernized system," a report at the enterprise's stand said.

The Buk-MB is made from new components and fitted with modern automatic work stations and large liquid crystal displays. The introduction of digital signal processing technology has fully automated fault diagnosis of the entire instrumentation package. The OKB TSP representatives pointed out that though each launcher of the system addresses a target through a single channel, its six channels in the standard SAM configuration make the system fully adequate for countering air threats in today's operational conditions.

Ca peut-être compliqué, faut l'accord de la Russie et intégration missile standard NATO sur avionique Russe sans doute pas évident.

oui mais la il faut changé sur le russe c'est jsutement un enemie potentiel de l'azerbaidjan vu que les russes interviendront surment si un conflit eclate les chinois et les usa n'hésite pas a vendre des armes a des pays qui sont "allié"(même la france et la GB n'hésite pas)

Les forces azerbaïdjanaises ont abattu mercredi un hélicoptère militaire arménien, l'incident le plus grave depuis la fin du conflit qui a opposé les deux pays autour de la région disputée du Nagorny-Karabakh, terminé en 1994, a-t-on appris auprès du ministère azerbaïdjanais de la Défense.

"Le 12 novembre, un hélicoptère de combat MI-24 a tenté d'attaquer les positions de l'armée azerbaïdjanaise près de la région d'Agdam (dans le Nagorny-Karabakh). L'hélicoptère a été abattu par l'armée azerbaïdjanaise", a indiqué le ministère.

Si ça part en dérapage guerrier il y a tout à croire que les Azéris ont reçu des garanties de l'Ouest pour affaiblir un pays amis de la Russie ainsi que ces dernier qui possède une base militaire dans la région

les armeniens ont de gros lobby au US, en France, et son alliés des russes...

mais pour les azeris il serait temps de rentabiliser les achats massive de ces derniere année (pendant que le barils le permet encore !?)

les armeniens n ont pas été manchots sur le terrain durant la guerre en 90.
