Photo: 2S7 Pion self-propelled gun Azerbaijani Army during military exercises By Dylan Vosman - Aug 28, 2015
According to the approved by the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov plan, military units and artillery and rocket forces conducted exercises in combat shooting. The 2S7 carries a crew of fourteen; seven are carried by the Pion and seven are with an auxiliary vehicle. The system carries four rounds of ammunition; four more rounds are carried by the support vehicle. Due to the long range, the crew can fire one or two rounds and leave position before the first round hits the enemy position over 40km away. This makes the 2S7 less susceptible to return fire, from an enemy without an anti-artillery system such as ARTHUR.

The Azerbaijan Coast Guard's Ship Construction and Repair Center in Turkan has built the first of up to six Saar 62 offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), as well as the coastguard's sixth Shaldag Mk V fast attack craft (FAC).
The developments were confirmed in a press release from the Azeri Border Guard Service (DSX) - which has jurisdiction over the coastguard - issued at the pre-launch inspection of the vessels by Azeri president Ilham Aliyev in early September.
The OPV (pennant number S 201) was launched on 9 September; the FAC (pennant number S 306) entered the water on 16 September.
It is understood that another OPV is in build in the yard's covered construction hall. The hall has capacity for at least three vessels to be constructed simultaneously.

The 61.8 m-long, 470-ton Saar 62 has a maximum speed of 32 kt. Armament comprises a 23 mm ZU cannon in a Typhoon remotely controlled weapon system (RCWS), four 12-barrelled launchers for the AMP decoy system, Rafael's MLS-NLOS eight-cell launcher with an integrated electro-optical (EO) device for firing the 25 km Spike NLOS missile, two 12.7 mm heavy machine guns in Mini Typhoon RCWS mounts, and two pintle-mounted 7.62 mm Negev light machine guns (LMGs). Sensors include Elta's EL/M-2228X radar, a mast-mounted Toplite EO fire-control director, a Furuno navigation radar, and a diver detection sonar. The OPV can embark a light helicopter.
The 32.65 m-long, 95-ton Shaldag Mk V has a maximum speed of 40 kt. Armament includes a 23 mm Typhoon RCWS, two Mini Typhoon RCWSs, LMGs, and a four-tube Spike ER launcher. A Toplite director provides fire control.
All five Shaldags built to date are operational.

Belarus continues to upgrade Buk air defense missile system for Azerbaijan named Buk-MB.
Belarus continues upgrading Buk air defense missile systems for Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces using Russian-made components, a source in the Belarusian defense and industrial sector told TASS on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.
"The upgrade of Buk air defense missile systems to the Buk-MB version is under way for Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces," the source said.
"The systems will be modernized later than scheduled as Azerbaijan does not have enough money," the source added.
"A number of Russian-made components are being used to upgrade the air defense missile systems," the source said without specifying them.
It became known at the ADEX-2014 international armament exhibition in Baku that Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces had received two battalion sets of Buk-MB air defense missile systems with six launchers and three launcher-loaders each.
The TSP Design Bureau in Belarus is upgrading Buk air defense missile systems. Kazakhstan and other countries are showing interest in the Buk-MB version.
In May on the MILEX-2005 exposition in Minsk, Belarus presented their own modification of 9K37 Buk called Buk-MB. On 26 June 2013 an exported version of Buk-MB was displayed on a military parade in Baku. It included the new 80K6M Ukrainian-build radar on an MZKT chassis (instead the old 9S18M1) and the new Russian-build missile 9M317 (as in Buk-M2).

Harop loitering munition makes combat debut in Nagorno-Karabakh
Gareth Jennings, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly 05 April 2016
Azerbaijani forces fighting in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh have used the Harop/Harpy 2 against Armenian positions in what is believed to be the Israeli-made loitering munition's first use in an open combat role.
Footage posted on YouTube on 4 April by Azerbaijani Armed Forces Qarabag (not an official site for the Azerbaijani Armed Forces) shows an Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Harop appear to acquire a target on the ground before crashing into it. The impact takes place beyond a ridge line and no explosion is visible.
The footage is confirmed by several regional media outlets. According to their reports, the Harop targeted a bus carrying Armenian 'volunteer' forces near the front lines, destroying it and killing "five or six".
The Harop is a 'kamikaze' unmanned aerial vehicle launched by a solid-propellant booster rocket from a ground-based storage container, with the outer-wings folding out once airborne. Powered by a rotary engine driving a pusher propeller, the Harop is believed to have a cruising speed of 100 kt (185 km/h) and a maximum range of greater than 500 km. However, the direct line-of-sight datalink capability enables operator control at ranges of up to 150 km.
Ground controllers use the Harop's IAI Tamam POP-200 electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor turret to acquire a target then crash onto it the vehicle and its 15 kg explosive fragmentation warhead. The Harop can attack from any direction and at any attack angle from flat to vertical.
Although intended to be derived from the earlier Harpy, the Harop is in effect an entirely new vehicle. The Harpy's circular fuselage and delta-wing have been replaced in the Harop with a more complex profile and a delta wing with downward-folding outer panels of reduced lead-edge sweep.
In June 2015 IAI disclosed that it had recently completed a series of flight demonstrations of the Harop for an undisclosed foreign customer.

Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Escalates As Azeribaijan Forces Violate Ceasefire
Azerbaijani forces have violated the ceasefire in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh early on Tuesday by shelling border positions.
YEREVAN (Sputnik) — Azerbaijani forces have violated the ceasefire in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh early on Tuesday by shelling enemy positions, the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's (NKR) Defense Ministry said.
"Early on May 3, the enemy has violated the ceasefire agreement and used various firearms and 82mm mortars to fire along the line of contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijani forces," the ministry said in a statement.
Front units of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army are in control of the situation and continue to carry out their combat duty, the ministry added. The violence in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on April 2. Baku and Yerevan have accused each other of provoking hostilities that led to multiple deaths on each side. The sides agreed to a ceasefire on April 5, but clashes have continued. The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh began in 1988, when the autonomous region sought to secede from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, before proclaiming independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The warring sides agreed to a cessation of hostilities in 1994.
