ADEX 2015: Hanwha Techwin confirms 105 mm SP gun ready for mass production
James Hardy, Seoul - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
20 October 2015
Hanwha Techwin officials have confirmed that the company's 105 mm self-propelled howitzer is ready for mass production for the Republic of Korea Army (RoKA).
Kim Myung-hwan, a senior manager at Hanwha Techwin, told IHS Jane's at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (ADEX) 2015 that the system would enter service in 2017.
Hanwha completed its acquisition of Samsung Techwin and the Samsung Thales defence units in June this year.
The system, which was marketed by Samsung Techwin as the EVO-105, is now called the 105 mm Wheeled Self-Propelled Howitzer. It consists of a standard KIA KM500 (6x6) 5-tonne truck chassis with the rear cargo area modified to accept the upper part of the 105 mm M101 towed gun from the United States. Kim said that Hanwha Techwin could "switch the vehicle for export customers" - the 5-tonne truck had been chosen because it was already in wide RoKA service.
The system features a modified version of the fire-control system from Hanwha Techwin's 155 mm/52-calibre K9 Thunder tracked self-propelled gun, which is in service with the RoKA and Turkish armed forces and was recently down-selected by India.
Hanwha Techwin expects to start series production of its 105 mm SPH system soon, officials said at ADEX 2015. (Hanwha Techwin)
Kim said that the gun's 11.3 km range meant it would act "like a mortar" in an infantry fire-support role and complement the longer-range 155 mm K9.
Company officials have previously said the system was quicker to deploy, fire, and reload than towed 105 mm guns and has a maximum rate of fire of 10 rounds a minute. Sustained rate of fire is typically three rounds a minute with a crew of five.

Introducing Patria Nemo Container - a heavy mortar system with high mobility
Ajoutée le 1 sept. 2017
Patria Nemo Container includes all the equipment required by a mortar unit in a single package. The Nemo Container is delivered with everything that a mortar unit needs: protection for the crew, the weapon and ammunition. The container has its own power unit and air conditioning. In addition to an access hatch, the container has an escape hatch.
The customer can select NBC (Nuclear, Biological and Chemical) filtration systems, as well as the desired ballistic protection, made either of steel plates or ceramic armour. High-durability steel plating 8 to 10mm thick adds around three tons to the weight of the container. The container has space for one hundred mortar bombs. It has a crew of three: two loaders and a gunner, who also acts as the commander of the unit. The key benefit of the Patria Nemo Container is its easy mobility, which is unique to mortar systems of this caliber.
The container can be easily moved into a firing position on a high-speed boat, a ship or on a truck; the container can also fire from any of these carriers and naturally also from the ground. For example, the container’s versatile mobility enables coastal jaeger platoons to relocate this independent firing unit during a mission. This is also an excellent solution for protecting military bases. The container can also be purchased as a separate unit without the weapon system, in which case the customer can make cost-effective use of its existing Nemo equipment.
Patria Nemo Container, showcased for the first time at the IDEX 2017, has completed successfully its first test firings both on truck platform as well as a stand-alone on land.

Latest development of ST Kinetics AMGS 155mm artillery gun system
Singapore AirShow 2018 Latest News Posted On Thursday, 15 February 2018 17:11
ST Kinetics Defense Company from Singapore, the land systems division of ST Engineering, presents the latest development of its 155mm caliber Advanced Mobile Gun Systems (AMGS) project at Singapore AirShow 2018. The AMGS is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer mounting a 155mm/52 caliber gun system carried on an 8x8 military truck chassis.
Scale model of ST Kinetics 155mm AGMS Advanced Mobile Gun System at Singapore AirShow 2018. (Picture source Army Recognition)
Operating the AMGS is safer, efficient and faster. Its automatic projectile loading, charge loading and gun laying system is interconnected with a fire control system, enabling firing missions to be conducted remotely from its armoured crew cabin.
The 155mm AMGS is capable of firing a volley of rounds with simultaneous impact. This capability grants an element of surprises in firing missions by removing the unfavorable early warning created by single round-firing. The 155m gun has maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per three minutes with an effective firing range of 40km with Extended Range, Full Bore (ERFB) ammunition. It has a traverse of +30° with elevation from -3° to +70°
The gun's automated charge and projectile loading system reduces crew fatigue by removing the repetitive tasks of preparing the gun for firing. The crew's safety is further enhanced by reducing their exposure to firing blasts as they are operating the gun from the armoured crew cabin.
The AMGS artillery system has a gross vehicle weight of 28,000 kg, a length of 11.5 m, width of 3 m, and height of 3.5 m This artillery truck howitzer can run at a maximum road speed of 80 km/h and a maximum cross-country speed of 30km/h. The gun system can be remotely operated from the armored cabin. To increase accuracy, the weapon system is proposed with fire control system with integrated navigation unit.
The ST Kinetics AMGS can be operated by a crew of three offering the capacity to fire first rounds in less than 30 seconds from road position and leave the firing position in the same time.

Ukraine develops new Bogdana 6×6 self-propelled howitzer
Aug 10, 2018
Ukraine has developed a 155mm advanced wheeled self-propelled howitzer (SPH), called the Bogdana.
The new self-propelled artillery system was intended to destroy command posts, armoured and mechanised units, artillery batteries, communication posts and field fortifications.
The Bogdana self-propelled artillery system is mounted on a KrAZ 6×6 high-mobility truck chassis, manufactured by Ukrainian “AutoKrAZ” industrial company.
The new artillery system is fitted with a modern fire control system consists of a ballistic computer, a gun system computer. The display of the main fire control computer is located in the armored cab, however, there is also a gun display unit at the rear. It is used by the crew when the howitzer is deployed in firing position.
Is expected that new artillery system will have a minimum range of 780m and is capable of hitting targets at ranges up to 40km (50 with new-developed rounds). The maximum rate of fire is 6 rounds per minute.
According to Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, a new 155-mm self-propelled howitzer is being tested. “Its crucial characteristics are high mobility, precision, range capability, and high speed of fire”, – he emphasized adding that special ordnance can hit the target at a distance of up to 60 kilometers.
Mr. Turchynov also noticed that the new self-propelled howitzer “has the NATO 155-mm caliber”. “There were no weapons of such caliber in our Armed Forces, neither were they in the Soviet Army nor does it exist in the modern Russian army”, – Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine.
He added that both the gun control system and the technology for its production at the Ukrainian defense enterprises meet the NATO standards.
“The weapon got a very beautiful feminine name “Bohdana”, and I advise the enemies of Ukraine to memorize it well”, – Secretary of the NSDC Ukraine
The Bogdana has a combat weight of 28,000kg. The self-propelled artillery system is equipped with a load assisting system. It carries 20 round of ammunition and associated charges.
The cab of high-mobility truck chassis is of welded steel armour and provides protection from small arms fire. The front of the crew cab is fitted with two large windows and four-door is available on each side.
The new Bogdana 6×6 self-propelled howitzer will unveil to the international public for the first time during Ukraine’s Independence Day on Aug. 24.

Pakistan’s latest weapon from China — state-of-the-art ‘nuclear-capable’ SH-15 howitzer
The SH-15 appeared this week at a defence expo in Karachi. Pakistan is learnt to have ordered more than 50, enough for three artillery regiments.
Pakistan seems to have procured another ultra-modern piece of artillery equipment from China — the SH-15 howitzer. And the significance for India is that the system could be nuclear-capable, if Pakistan’s attempts to miniaturise nuclear weapons has been successful.
The howitzer made an appearance at Pakistan’s 10th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS), organised in Karachi this week. Only one picture of the weapon appeared, indicating some kind of secrecy or embargo, but that was enough to confirm that Pakistan has begun importing the system.
The SH-15 was also exhibited at the Zhuhai Airshow held this month in China. It is already in service with the People’s Liberation Army’s 72 Group Army in the Eastern Theatre Command, with the artillery brigade firing alongside the PHL03 MLRS (multiple launch rocket system) and the PLZ05 howitzer SP (self-propelled).
The SH-15 trials in Pakistan were carried out in secret in the mountains near Karachi. A leaked picture of the trials was published in Chinese magazines.
How it works The SH-15 system uses a 6×6 wheeled Shaanxi truck chassis for carrying a 155 mm howitzer mounted at the rear of the truck. The truck also has two spades connected to the howitzer at the rear for stabilising the system.
The howitzer system is operated by a crew of five and carries almost 22.5 tons of load.
It is protected against small arms firing and shell splinters by an armoured cabin at the front, which has all bulletproof windows and windshields.
The 155mm/52 calibre long-barrel howitzer is fitted with a double-baffle muzzle brake. It has four boxes for carrying 60 rounds of ammunition as first line.
Northern Industries Corporation (NORINCO), the state-run defence manufacturer that makes the SH-15, claims it has a maximum firing range of 53 km with a rocket-assisted artillery projectile, similar to the eight-year-old SH-1 system.
The elevation and traverse of this howitzer is operated hydraulically. It can also be operated by manual controls in case of emergencies. The maximum rate of fire is six rounds per minute.
The SH-15 can be used to perform a direct firing role, which the Pakistan Army seems very fond of.
Also read: China’s second aircraft carrier is well on its way, far earlier than expected
Nuclear dimension So, why is Pakistan so fixated on 155mm howitzers? The answer is that the SH-15 will be the best ‘shoot and scoot’ system for the use of nuclear shells — easy to hide and easy to use against troop concentration.
Pakistan has been working on the miniaturisation of nuclear weapons since 1984, with Plutonium as the core. The US nuclear artillery shell W-48 uses 10kg high density alpha-plutonium with a sphere of barely 54mm.
Pakistan’s ex-martial law administrator and self-proclaimed president Pervez Musharraf had told a US diplomat that Pakistan had produced the smallest nuclear warhead in the latter half of 2011.
Such a warhead, if fitted in a 155 mm shell with a stated range of 53 km, will be a game-changer against India’s ‘Cold Start’ doctrine. source : https://theprint.in/defence/pakistans-latest-weapon-from-china-state-of-the-art-nuclear-capable-sh-15-howitzer/156671/

Elbit Systems progressing new SIGMA 155 mm artillery system
by Christopher F Foss
Israel's Elbit Systems is developing a new fully automatic 155 mm/52 calibre SP artillery system for the Israel Defense Force (IDF) that will start to replace the IDF's 155 mm/39 calibre M109 tracked SP artillery systems around 2023 , company representatives told Janes.
While many countries still deploy tracked self-propelled (SP) 155 mm artillery systems, there is a trend towards 155 mm wheeled artillery systems, as they offer strategic mobility due to less reliance upon heavy equipment transporters.
A rendering of the new SIGMA 155 mm/52 calibre self-propelled artillery system being developed by Elbit Systems for the Israel Defense Force, based on an Oshkosh Defense 10×10 platform. (Elbit Systems)
The new artillery system, called SIGMA, is being developed via an initial USD125 million contract announced in March 2019. It is based on a US-supplied Oshkosh Defense 10×10 platform selected by the IDF, which uses the trucks for a number of missions.
The platforms will be fitted with a fully protected control cab, a nuclear biological chemical (NBC) system, and full air conditioning for a crew of two or three.
Mounted on the rear of the chassis will be an automatic turret armed with a 155 mm/52 calibre barrel with a 23 litre chamber that meets the NATO Joint Ballistic Memorandum of Understanding (JBMoU), and is fitted with a muzzle brake and fume extractor.
The 155 mm/52 calibre turret system will be remote controlled from within. In addition, the system provides a manual reversionary mode, or “degraded mode” of operation, an Elbit Systems spokesperson told Janes.
The automatic loading system will set the fuze, load the projectile, and then the Uni-Modular Artillery Charge System (UMACS) with the primers will be automatically loaded via a separate magazine.
