UK will gift around $700,000 for first aid kits to the Ukraine Armed Forces (UAF)
The first aid kits announced by Defence Secretary Michael Fallon will help the UAF to meet an urgent need for life-saving equipment. Delivered at the request of the Ukrainian government, this package comprises individual first aid kits that will help the UAF treat casualties who have been injured as they continue to respond to separatist aggression in East Ukraine.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said: "we are committed to helping Ukraine defend its territorial integrity and this builds on packages of support and training we have already provided. It will help the UAF treat casualties, strengthen their defensive capability and build their resilience.
The UK has already gifted over $1,4 million (£1million) worth of non-lethal equipment, including helmets, night-vision goggles and global positioning systems. Cold weather protective clothing and field tents will also be delivered in the coming weeks.
The gifting of equipment is in addition to training being provided by the UK Armed Forces to the UAF in areas such as medical skills, logistics, infantry and intelligence capacity building.

Textron Systems announced on 1 February that it had signed a contract with the Ukrainian government to supply three Survivable Combat Tactical Vehicles (SCTVs).
The contract, for an undisclosed amount, makes Ukraine the launch customer for the SCTV, which has also been pitched to Colombia and received interest from Georgia, Romania, and undisclosed NATO partner nations.
The vehicles will supplement a fleet of 230 High-Mobility Multi-Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs, or Humvees) that were pledged to Ukraine by the United States through an agreement to provide non-lethal aid to the Ukrainian government. Deliveries of a first batch of 10 vehicles took place in March 2015, with a further 100 being delivered in July.
The SCTV is an evolution of a platform for which Textron, and then-partner Granite, received a US Marine Corps (USMC) 2009 contract to provide armoured capsules to boost Humvee protection. According to company representatives, the package provides protection levels similar to the US Army's and USMC's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, with five primary upgrade kits on offer covering body armour, suspension lift, brakes, power pack, and cooling. The design uses 70% legacy Humvee parts, but the upgrade package depends on the series and condition of the Humvees that are being refurbished as part of the programme.
The vehicle also provides increased protection for crews through a fully armoured, monocoque v-hull capsule, which helps to improve ballistic protection from mine strike and ambush.
The SCTV's latest version weighs about 13,000 lb and its payload allowance is 5,500 lb, giving a permissible gross vehicle weight of 18,500 lb: 5,000 lb more than an M1100-series Humvee.

Ukraine plans for 20 new «Gurza-M» patrol boats Mar 11, 2016
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence plans to purchase up to 20 new armoured patrol boats for the Ukraine Coast Guard during the next three years, according to an official spokesman.
The new vessels, designated ‘Gurza-M’, will be built in the Lenin Kuznitsa shipyard hear Kiev and are designed for the protection of seaports, rivers and territorial waters.
The patrol boats will have the length of 23.7m and able to reach speeds of up to 25kts, with a maximum range of 700 miles. Armament includes two remote-controlled 30mm Katran-M weapon systems and small arms.
Currently the Ukrainian Navy has two such boats in its service, delivered in November 2015.
According to an official spokesman of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, in addition to the Gurza-M, up to seven ‘Lan’ fast missile boats may be purchase.
Government plans also include the provision of funds to complete the development of the Centaur amphibious assault boats.
The annexation of Crimea resulted in the significant reduction of the Ukrainian Coast Guard fleet, as a number of vessels were seized by Russia. This has brought about a number of procurement programmes aimed at building up naval and coast guard forces.
In November last year it was reported that the Ukrainian Navy and State Border Service could be merged into the State Border Guard Service in a bid to improve maritime security.

EUCOM Nominee Would Consider Javelin in Ukraine Aaron Mehta, Defense News 12:42 p.m. EDT April 21, 2016
WASHINGTON — The likely next head of US forces in Europe believes there is a need in Ukraine for anti-tank weapons, and indicated a willingness to provide the Javelin system to Ukrainian forces during a hearing Thursday.
Appearing at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, the White House pick to lead US European Command (EUCOM), also said he would be interested in exploring whether a permanent brigade in Europe makes more sense than the current rotational plan.
Asked by committee Chairman Sen. John McCain if Ukraine should be provided defensive weaponry, Scaparrotti said, “I believe that we should provide the weaponry that we believe they need to defend their sovereignty, and that they are capable of using.”
Pressed specifically by the Arizona Republican on whether that includes Javelin weapons, Scaparrotti replied, “I think there is a requirement for an anti-tank weapon like Javelin in their situation.”
The question of whether Ukraine should be receiving more military aid is a hot one both on the Hill and in the Pentagon. However, Scaparrotti’s caveat that the Ukrainian forces should be given only what “they are capable of using” is an important one, as the Ukrainian military has struggled to transform itself into a modern fighting force.
