Polish Air Force PZL130 upgrade programme
During a ceremony held at the Airbus facility in Warsaw on 25 October 2022, the last of 28 (serial 044) upgraded turbo driven two-seat PZL130 Orlik training aircraft was handed back to the Sily Powietrzne RP (Polish Air Force). All aircraft were modernised from TC-I to TC-II standard.
Between 2011 and 2013, the first batch, consisting of sixteen aircraft, were modernised from TC-I to TC-II standard. This deal had a total value of 37 million euros (148,6 million Zloty). In December 2017 a second contract was signed for the modernisation of another twelve aircraft with a total value of 44,6 million euros (186 million Zloty).
The Chief of the Air Force Management Board said: "Despite the turbulent times of transformation, Poland has managed to maintain a complete training system in the air force. It enables sovereign, autonomous training of jet, fast and transport aircraft and helicopter pilots. The Orlik plays a major role in the training subsystem’s of jet aircraft. This is the basic training aircraft, on which we make the selection, and the pilots will meet for the first time with overload, higher speeds, maneuvers in ordinary, tactical formations and with a certain standard of briefings. This aircraft will be the first platform on which any future F-16, FA-50 or F-35 pilot will be trained."
The serials of the modernised PZL130TC-IIs, all based at Radom/Sadkow and operated by the 4. Skrzydło Lotnictwa Szkolnego (4.SLSz), are:

First sets of Baykar Bayraktar TB2 drones delivered to Polish Armed Forces
Defense News November 2022 Global Security army industry
POSTED ON FRIDAY, 04 NOVEMBER 2022 15:53
Bayraktars unmanned combat UAVs (UCAVs) that, on the one hand, carry out reconnaissance missions, and on the other hand, are capable of performing combat missions as well. The delivery of the first batch of Bayraktar TB2s marks a major stage in the process of the Polish Armed Forces’ modernization equipping them with modern equipment.
On October 28, at the 12th Unmanned Aircraft Base, the head of the Ministry of National Defense participated in the handing over of the first Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial systems to the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces (Picture source: Polish MoD)
The government of Poland published a statement saying ‘’We are starting the process of equipping military units with Bayraktars. We ordered these drones long before Russia invaded Ukraine. At that time, we were told that this was a weapon that we would never benefit from. What has happened in Ukraine shows that those claims were wrong and that it is a highly effective weapon, which in the hands of the Ukrainians, allows them to effectively defend their territory’’, said Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak at a meeting with the Polish Armed Forces’ soldiers in Mirosławiec.
On October 28, at the 12th Unmanned Aircraft Base, the head of the Ministry of National Defense participated in the handing over of the first Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial systems to the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces.
‘’Today, we are recreating units of the Polish Armed Forces. We are strengthening Polish defense capabilities. The first Bayraktar sets are already in the 12 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base. The soldiers who completed the course in Turkey are trained and ready to operate them. They are motivated to guard the security of the Republic of Poland. It is important that, thanks to that equipment, our defense capabilities increase. In addition to the UAVs, we have also ordered radars and control stations. Moreover, we are prepared to service these machines’’, said Deputy Prime Minister M. Błaszczak.
The contract for the 4 MALE Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial systems (UAV) sets to the Polish Armed Forces was signed in May 2021. The first of the contracted sets has been delivered. The first batch of the equipment includes, among others, 6 unmanned aerial vehicles with 3 mobile control stations, system ground support elements, diagnostic devices, and spare parts.
‘’Combat readiness of the delivered sets is a matter of days. Soon, we will introduce Bayraktars to the defense system of the Republic of Poland. At my last visit, right here at the 12 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base, I asked the commander how the preparation process was going – both in terms of location and people. The colonel reported that everything was on the right track. I have just seen that we indeed are ready to commence, using Bayraktars, further strengthening our security. We still strengthen the defense capabilities of the Republic of Poland and develop the Polish Armed Forces’’, said the head of the Ministry of Defense.
‘’In recent months, in Turkey, soldiers of the 12th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base in Mirosławiec and the Engineering and Aviation Training Center in Dęblin took part in the training of the first instructors and system users. The next step on the way to adopting and introducing the Bayraktar TB2 system to the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces will be the final acceptance tests", Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak emphasized.
*** In May 2021, a contract for the delivery of 4 MALE class Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial systems (UAV) sets to the Polish Armed Forces was signed. This week, the first of the sets has arrived at the Polish Armed Forces, including, among others, 6 unmanned aerial vehicles with 3 mobile control stations. The first batch of contracted military equipment deliveries also includes elements of the ground support system, diagnostic devices, and spare parts.
In recent months, in Turkey, training for the first instructors and system users (primarily from the 12 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base in Mirosławiec and the Engineering and Aviation Training Center in Dęblin) was carried out. The next step on the way to adopting and introducing the Bayraktar TB2 system to the equipment of the Polish Armed Forces will be the final tests, which are to be carried out in the following weeks.
Each set includes 6 armed Bayraktar TB2 drones. In total, 24 UAVs will strengthen the Polish Armed Forces. The contract also includes the delivery of, among others, mobile control stations, SAR radars, simulators, and a stock of spare parts. The contract also provides for the delivery of MAM-L and MAM-C laser-guided missiles, which will enable the implementation of the full spectrum of tactical tasks following the operational purpose of the system and school ammunition.
The contract provides a 24-month warranty, training and logistics packages, as well as technology transfer ensuring the possibility of servicing and repairing, among others, engines, ground control stations, and cameras.
The Bayraktar TB2 is a MALE class tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of conducting surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) tasks and combat missions using guided missiles carried on four suspension points under the wings. The Bayraktar TB2 has been equipped with an avionics system enabling fully autonomous taxiing, take-off, flight, and landing. The drone is 6.5 meters long and has a span of 12 meters. It achieves a flight duration of up to 27 hours. The take-off weight of the drone is 650 kg, and the maximum speed is about 220 km/h.

In December 2002, the Polish Ministry of National Defense signed a contract to buy 690 Patria AMV vehicles, to be manufactured in Poland and delivered in two main variants: APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle). In 2013, Poland placed an additional order to reach a total of 997 vehicles. The Patria Technology Transfer was concluded in 2005 but production and strong cooperation between Patria and Rosomak S.A. are active and ongoing.
The Rosomak is based on an 8x8 chassis powered by a DI 12 Scania Diesel engine developing 480 hp or 543 hp. The vehicle can reach 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 800 km. The Rosomak is fully amphibious and propelled in the water at a maximum speed of 10 km/h thanks to two waterjets mounted at the rear of the hull. The troop compartment can accommodate up to 10 infantrymen.
At MSPO 2019, Rosomak presented the Rosomak XP, a newer, improved and more capable version of the Rosomak 8x8. It was designed on the basis of previous experience, setting a new standard for the construction of 8x8 wheeled vehicle platforms. Its new design offers more room inside the vehicle and a higher payload capacity, providing the possibility of easy installation of specialized equipment in accordance with the user's requirements, enabling the integration of weapon systems, protection and crew equipment at the same time. It uses new modern solutions in the area of crew protection, a high level of ballistic and anti-mine protection has been achieved which, due to the modular design, can be easily selected by the customer
The basic design of Rosomak 8X8 XP already provides crew protection inside the vehicle in accordance with STANAG 4569 - level 4a/4b, offering ballistic protection against firing of heavy weapons 14.5×114mm AP all-around the hull, and mine blast explosion of 10 kg TNT under the center and the wheels of the vehicle. The vehicle structure was designed taking into account the requirements for electromagnetic radiation, specified in the MIL-STD-461F standard, which was confirmed by specialized tests in the EMC chamber. This new vehicle combines an improved propulsion system with a better engine providing 450 kW together with the Integrated Traction Control System (ITCS).

POSTED ON TUESDAY, 06 DECEMBER 2022 11:58
According to information published on November 6, 2022, the South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace has successfully delivered a batch of 24 K9 155mm self-propelled howitzers to the Polish Armed Forces, meeting the requirements of the Polish deterrence capability.

The official ceremony was held on December 6 to celebrate the arrival of K9PLs, with the attendance of Polish Government leaders including President Andrzej Duda and Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
Among the South Korean participants were Minister Eom Dong-hwan of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration; Deputy Minister Yoo Dong-joon of the Ministry of National Defense; Son Jaeil, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace; and Executive Vice President Lee Boo-hwan of Hanwha Aerospace’s Business in Europe.
“The handover of K9PLs is a key milestone in the development of partnership between Hanwha Aerospace and the Government of Poland,” said Lee Boo-hwan, head of Hanwha Aerospace’s European business. “Meeting the requirements of the Polish Armed Forces is our top priority, and we’re proud of having produced and delivered the best-quality equipment to Poland so quickly.”
The K9PL delivery took only about three months after an executive contract was signed in late August. Under the first executive contract, Hanwha will deliver hundreds of K9PLs by 2026, with plans are also in place to manufacture hundreds of more K9PLs in Poland from 2026 in cooperation with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the largest defense group in Poland, which also manufactures the Krab Self-Propelled Howitzer.
In addition, Hanwha Aerospace also plans to build an advanced MRO center in Poland to provide efficient logistics support to Poland and other K9 user countries across the European region.
“There is no doubt Hanwha Aerospace is the most reliable partner for Poland to contribute the Polish defense capability and industry growth,” said Son Jaeil, President and CEO of Hanwha Aerospace. “Hanwha is committed to making Poland as a hub for the supply of K9 systems in Europe based on a stronger partnership with the Government of Poland.”
With the expansion of countries operating K9 artillery systems, Hanwha launched the K9 User Community in April 2022 to share experience on the operation of the K9, including logistics support capability. K9 user countries include South Korea, Turkey, Poland, India, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Australia, and Egypt.
The K9 Thunder is the world’s most popular tracked self-propelled gun with over 2,000 units already in service around the globe. The howitzer can deliver consistent, accurate, rapid effects at a range of up to 40 km with high rates and volumes of fire. In particular, the K9 is optimized for “Shoot-and-Scoot” capability to fire multiple rounds and immediately move to a different location to avoid potential counter-fire.
In a recent milestone, the K9 and K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicles were successfully tested by the US Army to prove their compatibility with various US munitions. The test was conducted at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona in mid-September 2022 to fire different types of US munitions including 155mm M795 projectiles and XM1113 Rocket Assistance Projectiles.
