MOSCOW, November 26 (RIA Novosti) - Israel has successfully tested its David's Sling defense system, also known as Magic Wand, local media reported.

Over the past few days, David’s Sling has intercepted a test-fired mid-range missile in its first trial run of the kind, the Haaretz daily reported on Sunday.

David’s Sling’s intercepting missile is an advanced weapon with the possibility of a greater range of activity thanks to its engine, which switches off and on a few times during the flight. The test involved no warhead, with a trial involving a warhead to be held by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the future.

The test brought Israel closer to possessing an active defense shield protecting the country against Islamic militant group Hezbollah’s projectiles, the Jerusalem Post daily reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said the David’s Sling missile defense system, now being developed by Israel’s defense company Rafael and US defense contractor Raytheon, is designed to “fill the gap between Iron Dome’s short-range protection and the Arrow 2 long-range ballistic missile defense program.”

The system, to become operational in 2014, would defend Israel against missiles with a range between 70 kilometers (44 miles) and 300 km (187 miles).

The Jerusalem Post said that according to the IDF, there are some 200,000 rockets and missiles pointed in the direction of Israel from Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas.

An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect on Wednesday. Both the IDF and the Islamist group praised the deal, in line with which, Israel ended its Operation Pillar of Defense against the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian enclave of 1.7 million that has been governed by Hamas since 2007, and Hamas stopped launching rockets into Israel.

The Pillar of Defense started on November 14 with an airstrike that eliminated the head of the military wing of Hamas, Ahmed Jabari. The airstrike came after a reported surge in rocket attacks on Israeli border towns from Gaza.

The interception that almost ended in tragedy: Ynet learned that during an interception attempt by the Iron Dome missile defense system this Wednesday, above Ashdod, one of Iron Dome's missiles strayed and landed in an open area not far from Route 4, near hundreds of moving cars.


During the eight days of fighting in Gaza, the Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted more than 400 rockets fired at Israeli residential areas, thus saving numerous Israeli lives.

However, the system that enjoyed an 84% success rate had a few mishaps.

Near tragedy near the highway


Wednesday, around 4 pm, Grad rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip to Israel, targeting the city of Ashdod. Three missiles from the Iron Dome defense battery tasked with protecting Ashdod were immediately fired at the oncoming barrage.


One of the rockets succeeded in intercepting one of the Grads, whilst another Grad landed in a residential area within city limits, resulting in the light injury of one person and damage to some structures.


However, the main drama took place near the Iron Dome battery itself. One of the rockets fired from the battery did a mid-air about-face. Instead of heading upwards towards the Grad, the missile turned in the direction of the nearby Route 4. At the last moment the rocket deviated and exploded in an open area adjacent to Route 4, some 30 meters away from the highway's northern lanes.


As a result of the ground explosion, pieces of burning shrapnel from the rocket exploded by the side of the highway. Drivers heading north were forced to hit their brakes to avoid getting hit by burning shrapnel. Luckily, no damage or injuries were reported.

IDF: The system works

IDF sources said in response that the Iron Dome defense system plays an important role in the IDF's ability to protect the home front. They continued by saying that the system proved its efficiency and will only continue improve with time.

The IDF spokesperson had a similar response and stated that during the last week the Iron Dome system intercepted and shot down 421 rockets fired at Israel, thus playing a vital role in the IDF's ability to defend the home front. He continued to cite the system's unprecedented success rate as well as reiterating the idea that the system has already proven it's efficiency, despite the fact that it does not promise a complete hermetic protection.

44 Skyhawks For Sale


Israel's Ministry of Defense is attempting to sell the IAF’s fleet of Skyhawk aircraft in light of the acquisition of the new Italian trainer aircraft

The SIBAT department of the Israeli Ministry of Defense is calling defense entities, militaries and countries from around the world and inviting them to acquire the fleet of Skyhawk aircraft which have been in IDF service since the 1960s.

The Skyhawk was the first fighter aircraft that the United States agreed to sell to Israel, and the Israeli Air Force began using the aircraft in 1967. Today, the aircraft are used for combat training and instruction in the framework of the IAF’s flight course, and the sale comes as part of the preparation for when the IAF receives the new Italian M-346 trainer aircraft.

During the recent operation Pillar of Defense in Gaza, the IAF used the Skyhawk aircraft for casting notices above the Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Defense is interested in selling the 44 Skyhawk aircraft for several dozen millions of US dollars. The aircraft is expected to be taken out of service in the coming year. If there is no response in the next five years, the aircraft will apparently be transferred for scrapping.

Israel orders ISTAR and armoured driving trainers from Elbit

Elbit Systems has been awarded contracts for delivery of intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) trainer and armoured driving trainers (ADTs) to the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD).

Under the terms of the contracts, Elbit will supply two ISTAR and unspecified units of ADTs to support the IMOD's border surveillance and observation and combat vehicle training programmes.

Elbit Systems aerospace division training and simulation vice president Alon Afik said: "These orders for armoured driving and ISTAR trainers position Elbit Systems as a front runner in providing multi-faceted training technologies, such as border protection simulation, sensor simulation and C4I training."

ISTAR is a combat support and field intelligence trainer primarily developed to allow real-time border control and protection training for forward observers (FOs) and sensor operators in all types of terrain.

The trainer enables FOs to efficiently practice joint strike and reconnaissance missions by replicating actual border situations that are having interoperability with command, control, communications, computers and information (C4I) and other communication systems.

Specific mission scenarios simulated by the trainer using a wide variety of day and night sensors include fire planning, ranging and field operations, as well as target detection, recognition, identification, acquisition and engagement in diverse environmental conditions.

Mounted on a six degree of freedom (DOF) moving platform, the ADT is a cost-effective advanced trainer, designed to provide highly realistic combat vehicle driving training to the operators in a broad spectrum of combat and non-combat scenarios.

Equipped with a network-based and user-friendly interface, the modular system is also capable of generating vital practice situations, such as driving under enemy fire or on dangerous slopes, to enable driver training in diverse weather and harsh field conditions.

ADTs will be delivered to IMOD during the first quarter of 2013, while the delivery schedule for ISTAR trainers has not been disclosed by the company.

Israel orders additional Fightex combat uniforms

Fibrotex Technologies has been awarded a contract for the delivery of additional Fightex two-sided combat uniforms to an elite unit of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The uniforms have been procured by one of the IDF's primary commando units as part of its new soldier survivability pack, following a comprehensive testing programme in extreme environmental and combat conditions.

Fibrotex Technologies marketing and sales vice president Yosef Kraus said "In addition to the IDF, interest has been expressed in our unique uniforms by various other international customers, and we expect to receive additional orders in the coming weeks."

Developed in collaboration with IDF special units using their experiences from recent conflicts, the Fightex is a next-generation smart fabric uniform capable of providing visual and near infra-red concealment during combat missions.

The lightweight uniform is exceptionally durable and fire retardant; it can be printed with a different camouflage pattern on each side, such as green for forests and other colours for desert or urban environments, enhancing the soldiers' survivability in any type of scenario.

In addition, the uniform enables comfortable when crawling and bending, and can also be integrated with a wide range of other items, such as winter uniforms, vests and load carriers.

Launched by Fibrotex at the June 2012 Eurosatory event in Paris, the uniform has already been purchased by the Israeli Navy, Air Force and Special Forces, as well as the French, Canadian and Italian special forces, as reported by Shephard Media.

Deliveries under the new contract are scheduled to start by the end of 2012 and will continue until the first quarter of 2013.

Several parts of engines belonging to F-16 fighters jets have been stolen from an airbase in central Israel in recent days, in a development that represents a serious security breach.

The commander of the base alerted Military Police to the thefts, and an investigation is underway.

Military Police suspect that the base may have been targeted by metal thieves, who may have had inside help, either from a soldier or a civilian serving on the base.

A large vehicle was likely involved in the heist, the investigators suspect.

An IDF spokesman confirmed the thefts, saying an investigation has been launched and military prosecutors will examine its conclusions.

No arrests have been made.

In recent years, a black market in metals has thrived, and thieves managed to steal parts of old F- 15 fighter jet engines and sell them as scrap.

The border with Gaza is one of Israel’s most tense regions. Hamas snipers, anti-tank missiles and explosives threaten IDF soldiers whose job it is to patrol the security fence on the border.

To counter these threats, the IDF has introduced the Guardium Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV), which patrols the Gaza fence around the clock. “The most important aspect of the Guardium is that it saves human lives — and money, too,” said Lt. Avidav, Head of the Guardium Division.

How It Works

The Guardium is unarmed, but is equipped with 360 degree cameras and a loudspeaker. It is highly mobile, which means that it can stream images from various angles and gather more data than a stationary camera can.

Infantry soldiers often patrol alongside the Guardium, which can detect threats from a distance. If it spots something suspicious, the soldiers in the command room immediately notify the foot soldiers in the field of the danger.

What It Takes to Operate the UGV

Back in the control room, soldiers — all of whom are women — operate the Guardium with joysticks, gear pedals, a steering wheel and monitors that broadcast a live feed from the field.

Soldiers who want to join the Guardium unit must have a driver’s license for automatic and manual transmissions. “Applicants must be able to focus intensively since the job demands being glued to a screen without interruption for six hour shifts,” said Lt. Avidav.

Once accepted to the unit, the soldiers go through a four-month course before sitting “behind the wheel” of the Guardium. As part of the course, the new soldiers participate in drivers training courses on a Jeep as well as a Tomcar.

Five Examples of the Guardium in Action

1. The Guardium spots a suspicious person in Gaza approaching the border fence with Israel. Soldiers in the command room switch on the loud speaker and order the suspect to freeze. Ground forces are quickly called to the scene.

2. Guardium operators detect the entrance to a smuggling tunnel on the Gaza side of the fence. The soldiers in the command room notify ground forces in the area to watch out for potential ambushes from the tunnel.

3. The Guardium spots a footprint on a dirt path adjacent to the security fence, indicating that someone recently crossed into Israeli territory. Soldiers in the command room alert the expert IDF trackers, the Desert Reconnaisance Battalion, who send forces to the area.

4. After the terrorist attack from Egypt on August 5, 2012, the Guardium patrols the Israel-Gaza-Egypt border areas for 80 hours until the broken fence can be repaired.

5. During Nakba Day riots on the Gaza border, the Guardium observes a suspect digging a hole near the fence.


The Future of Unmanned Ground Vehicles

In the next two years, the current model of the UGV will be placed by a bigger Ford F-350-based model with a weapon mounted on top.

Lt. Avidav made it clear that people from all over the world are coming to southern Israel to check out his Guardium UGV. He says that in the near future, the Guardium will be an even more critical tool for defending the people of Israel.

Le poste est considéré comme l’un des plus importants de l’armée… D’autant que c’est un tremplin pour devenir par la suite Chef d’Etat Major, position occupée actuellement par Benny Gantz.

Eizenkot terminé son relais de commandant des forces de l’armée du Nord l’an dernier, en prenant congé après une carrière longue de plusieurs décennies militaire qui l’a vu commander la brigade Golani et servir de secrétaire militaire d’Ehud Barak, quand ce dernier était Premier ministre et ministre de la Défense en 1999.

Le major-général était considéré comme le choix Gantz pour le poste d’adjoint, et pourrait fortement être nommé à sa place dans 3 ans, après la fin du mandat de Gantz. Mais le Major-Général Avi Mizrahi est également sur l’offensive pour obtenir ce poste.

Dans le passé, Eizenkot a déjà été le choix d’Ashkenazi pour le remplacer en tant que chef d’état major avant que des « pressions » extérieures se mettent en place pour désigner Gantz.

Yair Naveh devrait démissionner dans les prochains mois.

Also included are spare and repair parts, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical documentation, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and technical support, and other related elements of program support. The estimated cost is $647 million.

The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives.

The proposed sale of munitions will enable Israel to maintain operational capability of its existing systems. Israel, which already has these munitions in its inventory, will have no difficulty absorbing these additional munitions into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of munitions will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The principal contractors will be The Boeing Company in St. Charles, Missouri; KDI Precision Products in Cincinnati, Ohio; ATK (Alliant Tech Systems, Inc) in Edina, Minnesota; Kaman Dayron in Orlando, Florida; Lockheed-Martin Missile and Fire Control in Archibald, Tennessee; General Dynamics in Garland, Texas; Elwood National Forge Co. in Irvine, Pennsylvania; and Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Israel.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

Israel wants to buy thousands GPS-guided weapons from the United States at a time when tensions with Middle East rival Iran are on the rise.

The Pentagon notified Congress on Dec. 10 of the potential $647 million sale, which includes a broad array of bombs ranging from 250 pounds to 2,000 pounds.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to U.S. national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability,” said a statement from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the arm of the Pentagon that oversees foreign weapon and equipment sales. “This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives.

“The proposed sale of munitions will enable Israel to maintain operational capability of its existing systems,” the statement said. “Israel, which already has these munitions in its inventory, will have no difficulty absorbing these additional munitions into its armed forces.”

Specifically, Israel wants to buy 6,900 bombs and GPS-guided tail kits, called Joint Direct Attack Munitions, or JDAMs, which are built by Boeing. Also included in the sale are 3,450 Small Diameter Bombs, also made by Boeing.

Other contractors that stand to benefit from the sale are KDI Precision Products, ATK, Kaman Dayron, Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control, General Dynamics, Elwood National Forge Co. and Raytheon Missile Systems.

The notification of the sale comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East are extremely high over Iran’s nuclear program. Israel and the United States charge Iran is seeking to build nuclear weapons.

The announcement of the planned sale also comes on the heels of Israel’s 8-day surgical standoff campaign in Gaza, which ended Nov. 21. The Israel Air Force waged nearly 1,500 attacks, all of them with precision weaponry.

ils ont plus la force d'attaquer gaza ou le Liban ni la Syrie. une croyance chez l'armée et la classe politique israélienne qu'il faut tuer le serpent de sa tête. Une seul et unique guerre ça serait contre l'Iran.

Pour attaquer le Roi, il faut aussi neutraliser les pions.

Je considère que l'attaque sur Gaza avait pour objectif d'affaiblir les alliés Iraniens autour d'eux parce qu'ils vont bientôt striker l'Iran.

Le Hezbollah est en partie occupé en Syrie mais l'arsenal de roquettes/missiles est intact. On verra s'il y aura une campagne au Liban.

En tout cas, en cas d'attaque sur l'Iran, il ne faudra pas attendre quoi que ce soit du Hamas qui est désormais lié à l'axe sunnite.

Le "pion" Iranien en Palestine est le Jihad Islamique, vous n'avez pas remarqué ? La tolérance au chef du Hamas (Mechaal) n'a pas été montré au chefs du Jihad Islamique. (menace de liquidation s'il rentre par l'Egypte).
