The Government of Saudi Arabia has requested a possible sale of technical services to recertify the functional shelf life of up to 300 PATRIOT Advanced Capability-2 (PAC-2) (MIM-104D) Guidance Enhanced Missiles (GEM), modernization of existing equipment, spare and repair parts, support equipment, U.S. Government and contractor representatives logistics, engineering, and technical support services, and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated cost is $130 million. This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of an important partner which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. The proposed recertification program will allow the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces to extend the shelf life of the PAC-2 missiles in its inventory for an additional twelve years. The proposed recertification program will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The principal contractor will be Raytheon Corporation in Andover, Massachusetts. The recertification process will be performed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale Implementation of this proposed sale will require one contractor representative to travel to the Missile Assembly Disassembly Facility in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on an extended basis for missile assembly/disassembly support, system checkout, training and technical and logistics support. There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
bizarre…. Seulement recertification program ? Après les commandes des voisins et surtout la dernière commande d’avant hier pour le C4I je m’attendais plutôt à une commande THAAD ou PAC3…bizarre

The navies of Sudan and Saudi Arabia have launched their first joint military exercises in the Red Sea, the official SUNA news agency reported on Sunday.
The training is to run until Wednesday and focus on anti-smuggling operations and “boosting security and stability”, SUNA quoted Sudan’s military spokesman Sawarmi Khaled Saad as saying.
Two Saudi naval vessels and troops are participating, he said.
The exercise comes after warships from Iran, with which Saudi Arabia has tense relations, docked at Port Sudan last October and December.
At the time, Saad described the Iranian port calls as part of normal military exchanges between the two states.
Israeli officials have expressed concern about arms smuggling through Sudan, and the visits by Tehran’s navy came after Khartoum accused the Jewish state of an October 23 air strike against a military factory in the capital.
The incident led to speculation that Iranian weapons were stored or manufactured there.
Israel refused all comment on Sudan’s accusation about the factory blast, while Sudan’s foreign ministry denied Iran had any involvement in the plant.

Saudi Medevac to Be Equipped with AW139 Helicopters
(Source: AgustaWestland; issued March 6, 2013)
AgustaWestland is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract for a fleet of AW139 twin engine helicopters to equip the Saudi Aeromedical Evacuation Department of the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The helicopters will be configured with a dedicated aeromedical interior to perform air ambulance operations, with deliveries starting in 2013 and being completed in early 2014.
It is the first order for the AW139 to be placed by the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and continues the success of the AW139 in the Kingdom, where it is already performing demanding missions with other prestigious operators.
The AW139 has been recognised by many of the world’s leading aeromedical organisations as the most capable helicopter in its class, thanks to its outstanding performance and the easily accessible large cabin for patients and the medical team. The AW139 will further enhance the aeromedical evacuation service in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, helping it to save lives and deliver medical treatment to those in need in the shortest possible time.
With more than a 130 AW139s sold in the Middle East region, the AW139 is the market leader, offering new standards in terms of state-of-the-art technology, performance in the most demanding weather and environmental conditions and low operating costs. The AW139 is the only helicopter in its class to meet the latest civil safety standards and features Cat. A (Class 1) performance, a 30 minute run dry capable main gearbox and an advanced Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS).
The AW139, together with the AW169 4.5 tonne light intermediate and the AW189 8 tonne class twin engine helicopters, is part of the AgustaWestland Family of new generation helicopters which possess the same high performance flight characteristics and safety features as well as sharing a common cockpit layout, design philosophy and maintenance concept. This commonality will allow more effective operations for customers operating helicopter fleets across the 4 to 8.5 tonne categories.
More than 700 AW139s have been sold in almost 60 countries to nearly 190 customers for many roles including emergency medical service, search and rescue, disaster relief, offshore transport, VIP/corporate transport, passenger transport, law enforcement, fire-fighting, maritime security and other government duties.

Saudis receiving F-15 training systems
Published: March. 11, 2013 at 2:25 PM
ORLANDO, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Pilot and maintenance training systems for F-15SA aircraft are to be provided to the Saudi air force by Lockheed Martin, the U.S. firm announced.
The contract -- under a Foreign Military Sales arrangement -- is worth $253 million and is part of Saudi Arabia's modernization program for the aircraft.
Lockheed said its 360-degree full mission trainers will enable pilots to complete air-to-air combat, air-to-surface missions, air combat maneuvers and tactical intercepts training. The systems will feature a single dome over the dual-seat cockpit and desktop trainers for procedure training will also part of the package.
Virtual maintenance training systems will include systems will cover areas such as basic maintenance, landing gear and arresting hook, armament and flight controls.
"The complement of F-15SA training systems starts with desktop trainers and progressively increases in capability to full mission weapons systems trainers," said Jim Weitzel, vice president of training solutions for Lockheed Martin's Mission Systems and Training business. "This creates a cost-effective program since the appropriate level of technology is applied to meet the training objectives."
The trainers are to be delivered to Saudi Arabia by 2020.
