Eurosatory 2024 : vers un nouvel obus-flèche pour les Leclerc français

L’obus-flèche SHARD développé par KNDS France a fait mouche. Il rejoindra la gamme de munitions de 120 mm du char Leclerc rénové (XLR) à l’horizon 2030, un objectif annoncé par la Direction générale de l’armement (DGA) au salon de défense Eurosatory.

« Les dernières munitions-flèches ont été livrées au milieu de la décennie précédente. Vient un moment où le système propulsif peut se dégrader donc il faut pouvoir les remplacer », explique l’ingénieur en chef de deuxième classe Sylvain, directeur du programme de rénovation à mi-vie du char Leclerc.

Côté DGA, il est donc prévu de notifier courant 2025 le marché qui permettra de lancer la qualification étatique du SHARD 120, « un obus-flèche aux performances améliorées par rapport à la munition F1 aujourd’hui en dotation ». Une fois qualifiée, elle sera « introduite » dans la nouvelle conduite de tir, étape ouvrant la voie à des livraisons programmées pour la fin de la décennie.

À terme, c’est toute la gamme d’obus de guerre qui devrait être remplacée à l’horizon 2030, complète la DGA. Cet enjeu avait été pris en compte dès le lancement de la rénovation du char Leclerc, une opération qui comprend l’intégration d’une nouvelle conduite de tir permettant d’étendre le panel de munitions.

Dévoilé en 2021, l’obus 120 SHARD a été qualifié en fin d’année dernière par KNDS France. Désormais prêt pour la production de masse, il promet une augmentation de 15% de la pénétration tout en réduisant l’usure du canon de 25%, diminution des cycles et des coûts de maintenance à la clef. Non soumise à la norme ITAR, cette nouvelle référence est compatible avec tous les chars de l’OTAN dotés d’un canon à âme lisse, du Centauro au Leopard 2 et de l’Ariete au M1 Abrams.

Présenté pour la première fois au public, le char Leclerc XLR rejoint progressivement les régiments de cavalerie de l’armée de Terre. À ce jour, 28 exemplaires ont été livrés aux quatre régiments métropolitains, le 5e régiment de cuirassiers basé aux Émirats arabes unis devant être doté dans un second temps.

Certains kits du programme XLR seront perçus prochainement. Le brouilleur anti-IED sera intégré en fin d’année, effort qui se poursuivra en 2025 avec les tourelleaux téléopérés T2B conçus par FN Herstal. Confié l’an dernier à KNDS France et Safran Electronics & Defense, le renouvellement des viseurs chef et tireur démarrera en 2028 avec le rétrofit des premiers chars.
