(Reuters) - The Iraqi government is seeking to buy 36 advanced F-16 fighters from the U.S., American military officials familiar with the request told the Wall Street Journal.


This move could help Iraq reduce its reliance on U.S. air power and potentially allow more American forces to withdraw from the country than had been proposed.

The F-16, made by Lockheed Martin Corp, is the most sophisticated weapons system Iraq has attempted to purchase so far.

Late in July, the U.S. Department of Defense had approved up to $10.7 billion in arms sales for Iraq, including a $2.16 billion sale of M1A1 Abrams tanks built by General Dynamics Corp.

The U.S. recently announced F-16 sales to Morocco and Romania. Those sales, each for roughly $100 million per plane with training, related equipment and support included, offer an indication of how lucrative the Iraq deal could be for Lockheed Martin and its suppliers.

Iraq now appears determined to significantly expand the air power of its military, which has become more competent and confident in recent months but depends heavily on the U.S. for air support.

Iraq quickly has become one of the biggest weapons buyers in the world as it seeks to strengthen and professionalise its fighting force.

No one was available at the U.S. Department of Defense for comment.

The body of an Iraqi general killed when his military fighter jet crashed into the Arizona desert during a night training mission has been found near the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. officials said on Friday.

Search crews recovered the body of Brigadier General Rasid Mohammed Sadiq Hasan from the crash site about five miles (eight km) east of Douglas Municipal Airport, U.S. and Iraqi government officials said.

Hasan was alone in the Iraqi military-owned F-16 Fighting Falcon when it went down at about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, sparking a large grass fire.

The blaze was extinguished within hours, and there were no reports of injuries on the ground from the crash, authorities said.

Hasan was part of a Tucson-based training program for pilots from nine nations that is run by the Arizona Air National Guard's 162nd Wing.

"Our hearts are with Gen. Hasan's family, friends and countrymen," Colonel Phil Purcell, the wing commander, said in a statement. "Gen. Hasan's efforts in the defense of his nation should be commended."

The statement said that the Iraq pilots trained by the U.S. Air Force will be the first to use F-16's belonging to Iraq in the fight against the Islamic State militant group.

The Air Force is investigating the cause of the accident, U.S. officials said.

Un bug mortel. Sept personnes ont été tuées lundi à Bagdad par l'explosion d'une bombe tombée accidentellement d'un avion de combat irakien à cause d'un « problème technique », ont indiqué des responsables de la sécurité et de la santé.
« Une des bombes [à bord de cet avion Sukhoï] s'est coincée à cause d'un problème technique, avant de tomber sur trois maisons de Bagdad al-Jadida lors du retour de l'appareil à la base », a expliqué dans un communiqué un porte-parole des services de sécurité, le général Saad Maan. L'explosion, qui a eu lieu non loin de la base aérienne Rashid, a également blessé 11 personnes, selon des responsables. L'avion revenait d'une mission de bombardement quand l'accident s'est produit, d'après le général Maan.
Des pilotes irakiens en formation
L'Irak a reçu des avions Sukhoï Su-25 de Russie et d'Iran l'an dernier afin d'étoffer sa flotte aérienne pour combattre le groupe Etat islamique (EI), qui s'est emparé de vastes portions de territoire dans ce pays et en Syrie. Les Su-25 sont des appareils robustes conçus pour des missions d'attaques contre des cibles terrestres mais la flotte irakienne est constituée d'avions âgés qui ont déjà beaucoup servi.
Les Etats-Unis ont convenu de vendre 36 avions de combat F-16 à l'Irak mais aucun n'a encore été livré. Des pilotes irakiens sont toutefois en cours de formation sur ces appareils dans l'Arizona (sud-ouest des Etats-Unis). Un de ces pilotes s'est tué fin juin dans un accident durant un exercice de ravitaillement en vol.

Russia is set to supply the Iraqi army with approximately 400 advanced mine clearing vehicles. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has inked a 'secret' contract with Russia to equip the Iraqi army with the demining vehicles, the agency quotes a senior Iraqi official as saying without releasing his name.

The mine clearing armored vehicles will be used in military operations against the IS Takfiri terrorists in Northern and Western Iraq upon arrival in the country," the source apparently said, adding that the costs for purchasing the vehicles will be paid by the Iraqi government later.

The vehicle was developed on the basis of the T-90 MBT (main battle tank); it was built to collect intelligence, overcome obstacles and perform mine clearance.


It clears passages of a width approximately equal to the inter-wheel clearance of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers.

Attached to the front of the vehicle are two arms, each with solid steel wheels that rely on their weight to detonate mines while driving over them; this doesn't damage the tanks due to their thickness, allowing the vehicle to continue along its path with other tanks such as the T-90 following it.

The agency stressed that earlier in May, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had already said that Moscow is ready to send more weapons and ammunition to Bagdad to help the crisis-hit country overcome the Takfiri terrorist groups, particularly the IS.

According to the Russian media, Russia has already supplied fighting equipment to Iraq: Russian Mi28 anti-armor attack helicopter, multirole Mi-35 attack helicopters, the Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jets, TOS-1A heavy flamethrower systems, Pantsir air defense systems, Dzhigit support launching units, artillery and other ammunition.



The BMR-3M is mine clearing tracked armoured vehicle based ona modified chassis of the T-72 MBTT (Main Battle Tank) or the the T-90 MBT.

The standard turret armed with the 125mm cannon is removed and replaced by a fully enclosed raised superstructure for the crew. Each side of the chassis and the crew compartment are fitted with explosive reactive armour.

Mounted at the front of the vehicle is the KMT-7 mine clearing roller system fitted with an electromagnetic device to activate anti-tank mines fitted with a magnetic fuze. In addition to the mine-clearing equipment, the BMR-3M is also equipped with a multiple frequency-band jammer which prevents detonation of radio-controlled munitions.

The vehicle is armed with one 12.7 mm NSVT heavy machine gun mounted on the top of the crew compartment.

Les F-16 représentent un bond en avant pour l'armée de l'air irakienne, qui dispose pour l'instant d'avions à hélice Cessna Caravan et de vieux avions russes Su-25 pour les attaques au sol

Iraq has taken delivery of 30 Navistar MaxxPro mine-resistant, ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles with mine rolling equipment, the US military announced on 13 July.

The vehicles were handed over at Camp Taji, where US and allied personnel are training and equipping the Iraqi Army's new 15th Division.

Estonia donates weapons and ammunition to Iraq to help in fight against Islamic State


Last week Estonia dispatched weapons and ammunition to Iraq’s armed forces to support the country’s fight against the ISIL, also known as Islamic State. The shipment, which came in response to a corresponding request for assistance, consisted of Soviet-era military equipment that do not meet NATO standards and as such can no longer be used by the Estonian Defence Forces, the Estonian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday, July 22nd.


The donation to Iraq included 12 120 mm mortars of Soviet origin, 140 RPD light machine guns, 66 Chinese-made AK-56 automatic rifles, 44 Romanian-manufactured AKMS automatic rifles, and 230 Tokarev (TT) pistols, along with 21,000 rounds of ammunition.

The delivery of the donated arms will be organized by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

Estonia’s decision to support security forces battling ISIL is based on the EU Foreign Affairs Council conclusions of 15 August 2014, which supported the readiness on the part of member states to provide not only humanitarian aid but military materials to stabilize the security situation in Iraq and strengthen the capability of government forces to halt the advances made by ISIL.

Last year, Estonia donated over a million 7.62x54R ammunition cartridges to Iraq. In 2005, Estonia provided Iraq with 2,400 AK-56 rifles with 2.4 million cartridges, as well as 11 computers and furnishings for a computer lab.

Début mars, le gouvernement tchèque avait donné son feu vert à la vente à l'Irak de quinze appareils de ce type, conformes aux normes de l'Otan, destinés à aider Bagdad à lutter contre les jihadistes du groupe Etat islamique.

Trente-et-un pilotes irakiens sont arrivés en République tchèque il y a deux semaines, selon le chef d'état-major adjoint de l'armée tchèque, Frantisek Maleninsky.
"Le stage de formation va durer jusqu'au moment où les pilotes maîtriseront à la perfection le pilotage de cet avion", a déclaré M. Maleninsky.

Le contrat, entériné en mars par Prague, porte sur 13 avions en version monoplace et deux appareils en version biplace. Il s'agit de quatre avions provenant des matériels de l'armée de l'air tchèque et onze autres provenant de ses surplus.

Le montant du contrat, qui prévoit également les livraisons de l'équipement au sol, des pièces détachées, de l'armement et des munitions, se chiffre à 780 millions de couronnes (28,8 millions d'euros).
L'avionneur Aero Vodochody (banlieue de Prague) a fabriqué dans les années 1990 pour l'armée tchèque 72 appareils de ce type, pour 51 milliards de couronnes (1,88 milliard d'euros). L'armée tchèque n'en a cependant gardé qu'une trentaine, à la suite de coupes budgétaires.

Cet avion peut être équipé de missiles air-air et air-sol. Environ 80% des composants des L-159 sont de provenance étrangère, notamment américaine.
Prague avait aussi livré l'année dernière aux Kurdes d'Irak, qui combattent le groupe Etat islamique, des munitions pour une valeur de 1,5 million d'euros.

Le porte parole du ministere de la defense tchèque vient de rectifier l'information dans une declaration à l'AFP, il s'agit plutot de pilotes d'helicopteres MI-17 et non les avions de combat L-159.

Director of the company GP “Antonov” Mikhail nail in the exhibition of aeronautical engineering at the State Enterprise “Zavod 410 GA” announced the signing of a contract for the supply of new Ukrainian military transport aircraft for the benefit of the customer from Iraq.

“Right now, we already have a contract with Iraq. We have negotiated with China. We have to start serial production of the aircraft.” – Said Mikhail Gvozdev.

The An-178 is essentially an An-158 regional jet with a rear loading ramp (the two types share a number of components, including the front fuselage and cockpit, and nosewheel leg).

Development & Production give the An-178 a cargo hold measuring 16.65 m including ramp, or 12.85 m excluding ramp; a 2.745 m width at the floor, and a height of 2.75 m; a floor area of 40 m², and a hold volume of 125 m³ (both including the ramp). Its wingspan is 28.84 m, 32.95 m in length, and 10.14 m tall.

The aircraft has a maximum payload of 18 tonnes and a range of 1,000 km fully loaded. Its cruise speed is 445 kt, and requires a 2,500 m runway from which to operate.

Another batch of Mi-35M and Mi-28NE Night Hunter attack helicopters was reportedly delivered to Iraq by An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft, a source told TASS at MAKS-2015 airshow. In accordance with the delivery schedule, Iraq took delivery of four Mi-35M and four Mi-28NE attack helicopters. The rotorcraft feature the full combat configuration and are fitted with the night vision equipment, TASS reports with reference to a military attaché.

It was reported earlier that Baghdad would take delivery of 43 combat helicopters by 2016 (24 Mi-35M and 19 Mi-28NE helicopters). These helicopters will be used to fight terrorist groups in Iraq. So far Iraq have taken delivery of 16 Mi-35Ms and 11 Mi-28NEs.
The contract for delivery of military equipment and vehicles worth $4,2 billion between Russia (Rosoboronexport) and Iraq was signed in 2012 during a visit of Iraqi President to Moscow. The contract is implemented by Rostvertol (part of Russian Helicopters Holding Company), which manufactures Mi-35M and Mi-28NE combat helicopters, as well as Mi-26 heavy transport helicopters. According to experts, the cost of the delivered vehicles, including ground equipment and weapons, exceeds $1 billion.

In 2012 Baghdad and Moscow signed a number of contracts in the area of military-technical cooperation worth $4,2 billion for the first time since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime. In particular, the contracts include deliveries of 30 Mi-28 attack helicopters and 42 Pantsir air defense missile-gun systems.

je comprend pas cette armée qui d'années en années achete un nombre colossalle d'armement n'arrive meme pas a tenir ces position, le sydrome saoudien ....
