Aselsan selects cooperation with Thales for Turkey’s ATAK T129 helicopter programme 14 April 2010
AAAA’10 TX, Fort Worth - 14 April 2010 – Turkey’s Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) selected Aselsan to develop and produce the Helmet Integrated Cueing System (HICS) for the Turkish T129 tactical reconnaissance and attack helicopter. Used for situational awareness and weapon cueing, the HICS system will incorporate latestgeneration image intensifier tubes for tactical night flight. The wide-field (40°) binocular cueing system will display flight and targeting data, as well as symbology, on the pilot’s visor, and will project images from other sensors, such as high-resolution FLIRs.
Thales is very proud to have been selected as Aselsan’s main partner.
Metin Sancar, Aselsan Director Airborne and Naval Programmes said: “After a competitive process with the major suppliers of helmet mounted sights for helicopters, Aselsan was selected in partnership with Thales, which has extensive experience in the field with its TopOwl system. The TopOwl helmet mounted sight display is already in service. It has been chosen by 15 armed forces and more than 700 units have been delivered to date. Turkish pilots who evaluated the system in flight were impressed by the comfort of the helmet system and fully appreciated the benefits of visor projection technology, and this played a role in the procurement decision.”
Aselsan will have overall responsibility for the HICS and will develop the associated Electronic Unit and Software that integrates the head tracking and symbol generation systems. The HICS system could be proposed for Turkish armed forces transport and combat helicopters, as well as for other nations seeking to acquire the T129, in addition to future platforms.
Yves Joannic, Thales Vice President, in charge of helicopter avionics, said: “Thales is very proud that its experience in helmet mounted sight and display systems for helicopters will contribute to the success of the T129 programme. Thales’s helmet mounted sight display system expertise is now a well-known market reference.”
TopOwl delivers outstanding performance in demanding operational missions in difficult conditions and low visibility. It provides the pilots with exceptional comfort preserving the pilot’s full movements as well as giving an overall view of the cockpit Man Machine Interface and full visibility outside the machine. TopOwl is currently supplied to US Forces helicopters and on NH90 and Tiger Programmes.
Thales is displaying its TopOwl Helmet Mounted Sight Display on stand #2133 at the AAAA show in Fort Worth TX – 14-17 April 2010.

Turkey's first domestically produced armor
Turkish engineers within Nurol Technology Inc., after three years of R & D work in defense industry as one of the greatest needs were able to produce advanced ballistic armor. Usually shielded by Israeli armored vehicles were previously.
Turkey is the first domestic armor and "T-Armor" (Turkish armor), called for the development of products Nurol Technologies Inc. Has invested 15 million euros.
Within the Technology Group of Companies Inc. Nurol Nurol in 2008, fully indigenous advanced ballistic armor for the defense industry to start producing the work was completed. Nurol Group of Companies, with facilities produced in Ankara ballistic armor, military and private institutions in the country and abroad, successfully passed the tests.
Turkish armor, soldiers who served in the southeast, buildings, all ground and air vehicles that can be used for protection.

Israeli armored vehicles before, usually shielded by authorities who said, "We were dependent on external armor on. Countries, for use in armor technology, machinery and equipment do not even sell. We are our own body armor technology will be used in furnaces and machines we have manufactured their own. No armor can produce solutions as fully indigenous. Raw materials as well as all local produce. A strategic issue that will strengthen Turkey's power, "he talked.
BETWEEN THE WORLD'S BEST
Produced abroad and testing of the sample passes through armor, and after successful results from many countries are starting to get serious about the demands of the authorities, they noted:
"Countries, armor, while selling to another country, I do not give a time when the best armor. Usually the old model, developed an earlier sell armor. Developed armor, among the best in the world. For this reason, we will keep the best solutions for our country. A strategic issue because this cause. Our military is fighting in very difficult conditions in the Southeast. Already carry a very heavy loads. Ballistic armor vests do not want to move because it was too heavy. Whereas the lighter steel vests and they will use when we present it. "

Authorities, Nurol Technology Inc. 's, R & D activities after the armor used in construction materials, boron carbide-producing world, three from the company to become one, that this material is very light because it is the aircraft and personnel jackets used in indicating they were.
Sensitive and advanced manufacturing techniques and any threat to the proof, according to international standards, lightweight and ergonomically advanced ceramic plates produced in performing the telling authorities, if requested, any ballistic requirements, environmental conditions, multiple shots to the criteria in accordance with the various threats against the designs that could do they record.

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has delivered a prototype of its all-composite air inlet duct to Northrop Grumman for the production of the F-35 centre fuselage.
The air inlet duct, known as the destructive test article, will be used to validate the quality of TAI's composite manufacturing processes.
TAI produced the air inlet duct at its facility in Turkey as part of a five-year $28.4m contract awarded by Northrop in September 2009.
Under the contract, TAI will produce inlet ducts for the current production of centre fuselages on Northrop's F-35 assembly line in California and the 400 complete centre fuselages to be produced in Turkey.
TAI will begin delivery of the centre fuselages in 2013, as part the F-35 programme's sixth phase of low-rate initial production.
