The new PT-91P main battle tank (MBT) demonstrator, developed in Poland by
ZM Bumar-Labedy, is to be presented at the 2nd International Defense
Technology Exhibition (SITDEF 2009) in Lima, Peru, on 21-24 May.


The tank is being marketed as a potential candidate for the Peruvian
land forces requirement for 100 to 140 new MBTs. The selected vehicle
will replace 50 T-55M1/M2 Lion tanks and 96 AMX-13PA3 Escorpión light
tanks and could increase Peru's capabilities against Chile's ex-German
Leopard 2A4 MBTs.


The private venture PT-91P is based on an earlier version of the PT-91 Twardy tank used by Poland's land forces.

According to Lima based newspaper El Men the Peruvian government is in negotiations with France for the acquisition of two FREMM Frigates. According to the paper, the negotiations are likely to reach a positive outcome because of the many recent defense deals that were signed between Peru and France.

France recently sold to Peru a millitary satellite, anti-ship missiles and an upgrade program for its Mirage fighters fleet. The two countries also signed a Defense Agreement in November this year.

Contacted by Navy Recognition, no DCNS representatives were available to comment the information at the time of publishing.

The information would confirm however that Peru is currently seeking to increase its naval power. The Peruvian Navy is currently upgrading its fleet of Lupo class Frigates with new Electronic Warfare suites, 3D radar, Rheinmetall MASS countermeasures system and MBDA MM40 Block III Exocet missiles to replace the older Otomat anti-ship missiles. We reported in January 2013 that Peru would procure two new LPDs from Korea shipbuilder DSME to boost its amphibious capabilities.

Designed and built by DCNS, FREMM type Frigates are heavily armed: MM40 Blk III Exocet anti-ship missiles, Aster anti-air missiles and MU90 torpedoes. With the French Navy, the first nine frigates will predominantly conduct anti-submarine warfare missions, while the last two frigates, specialised in anti-aircraft warfare, are designed to protect a carrier or amphibious battle group against aircraft and missiles. All FREMM can also accomodate the Caïman Marine helicopter (NH90 NFH), as well as Special Forces and their equipment.

Five FREMM frigates are currently under construction at DCNS Lorient shipyard:
• Second-of-class FREMM frigate Normandie for the French Navy has just completed her first sea trial.
• Third-of-class FREMM frigate Provence was floated out on 18 September 2013.
• Fourth-of-class FREMM frigate Languedoc is under construction in the building dock.
• Work on the fifth-of-class FREMM frigate began in August 2012 and continues with the pre-outfitting of the hull blocks.
• FREMM frigate Mohammed VI will be delivered to the Royal Moroccan Navy towards the end of the year.

STX livrera d'ici 2015 cinq patrouilleurs de 500 tonnes au Pérou. Ceux-ci seront assemblés sur place.

Le chantier coréen STX Offshore & Shipbuilding vient de conclure un contrat avec le Pérou pour la construction sous licence de patrouilleurs. Le marché, signé le 10 décembre avec le ministère de la Défense péruvien, est d'un montant de 71,3 millions de dollars. Il porte sur la livraison de cinq patrouilleurs de 500 tonnes, avec une option pour trois navires supplémentaires.

Les matériels et équipements nécessaires partiront sous forme de kits de pièces détachées du chantier de Jinhae. Les navires seront assemblés au Pérou avec un soutien technique de STX Offshore & Shipbuilding. Ils doivent être livrés pour la fin 2015.

Plusieurs constructeurs s'étaient portés candidats selon le site spécialisé Infodefensa, dont le chantier français CMN basé à Cherbourg. Le néerlandais Damen, le coréen Daewoo, le britannique Rolls Royce, l'américain Swiftships Shipbuilder, l'allemand Fassmer ainsi que quatre chantiers espagnols, parmi lesquels Navantia, avaient également montré de l'intérêt pour l'appel d'offres péruvien.

Long de 54,50 mètres et large de 8,50 mètres, les patrouilleurs auront une vitesse opérationnelle de 22 nœuds et seront armés de canons de 30 mm. Ils sont destinés à la surveillance de la zone économique exclusive.

Des commandes supplémentaires sont attendues, le ministre de la Défense péruvien ayant fait part de l'intention du Pérou d'acquérir au total dix patrouilleurs basés sur la technologie coréenne.

En mars 2013, STX avait remporté un premier contrat en Colombie pour deux patrouilleurs de 250 tonnes.

Government-to-government negotiations between Peru and Russia for the acquisition of 24 MI-171 helicopters for Peru have now completed. The armed forces of Peru will use the helicopters to pursue counter-narcotics and anti-terrorism operations in the Valley of the Rivers Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro (VRAEM). 
The MI-171 sh-P helicopters will be delivered in a special configuration developed for operations at high altitudes and rough terrain. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the second half of 2014, and continue into 2015. 
The acquisition includes the delivery of a flight simulator and related training equipment to allow pilots to be trained in Peru instead of overseas, as is currently the case. 
Under the agreement, co-production of some components of the MI-171 helicopter will begin in Peru under a technology transfer arrangement.
The deal will also see the Russian Federation establish in Peru a Regional Maintenance and Repair Centre for helicopters. This centre will serve as a maintenance hub for all countries in Latin America which operate Russian-manufactured helicopters. 
The centre will be inaugurated during the first quarter of 2016, and in 2018 its capabilities will be extended to include major maintenance. 
Peru already operates the Mi-171Sh combat transport version of the Mil Mi-17 design.

( Infodefensa.com ) Lima - Through international bidding INTER-6-2013-EP/UO 0734-1 , the Army of Peru (EP ) has acquired a new batch of HMMWV high mobility multipurpose vehicles , popularly known as Humvee .

In line with the type M1151A1 twelve units donated by the United States in 2009 , the EP awarded in mid- December the bid the manufacturer AM General for the acquisition , this time , 36 units of the same variant a value of 15,882,100 soles (5.65 million) . Although additional purchases are expected, the transaction is so small that the U.S. company did not confirm on their website .

In October 2009 , AM General was awarded the bid for the sale of 22 units M1165A1 HMMWV variant Special Ops, valued at 13,825,470 soles.

The M1151A1 has a gross weight of 9,525 kilograms , 4.93 meters long, 2.03 meters height , angle of 48 degrees, range 402 km , diesel engine - 190 HP , four-wheel drive and seating for four passengers .

Delivery of vehicles to the Army

In early 2014 , the Ministry of Defense provided 62 vehicles EP , 27 acquired by the industry and 36 Jeep J8 , a five-door variant and modified roof that were donated by the Consultative Group on Military Aid U.S. Embassy . The Ministry International has acquired six buses 300 , 16 rural ambulances Type II Toyota brand recognition three vehicles and two Mercedes Benz 4x4 VTT .

The Jeep J8 vehicles are manufactured by Chrysler and the U.S. military variants are distributed by Jeep Government and Military Sales ( JGMS ) . They have a diesel 2.8-liter , 194- BHP and 460 NM of torque engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and Command Trac 4WD system. The chassis , brakes , axles and engine cooling system has been improved . The J8 has been successfully tested at 5,250 meters high in Chile and in the deserts of southern Africa . The engine can also use JP8 jet fuel .

The Peruvian Army has issued an RfP to Rosoboronexport regarding BMP-3 and BTR-80A. reportedly, the budget for planned purchase, if materialized will be at some 150 million dollars.
The BTR-80/BTR-80A is a combat vehicle of infantry of wheels that has a length of 7.7 m, 2.95 m. wide and 2.8 m high; as their weight in combat of 14.5 tons. It is powered by an engine diesel KamAZ-7403 of 260 HP which gives a speed of 80 km/h on road and 40 km/h to open fields, and a range of 600 km.
For its part, the BMP-3 is an armoured tracked which has a length of 7.2 m, width of 3.3 m and a height of 2.45 m. The combat weight is 18.7 tonnes. It uses an engine UTD-29, HP which gives a maximum speed of 115 km/h and a range of 600 km. The BMP-3, which in addition to its crew can transport 9 personnel, is armed with two cannons: a 100 mm 2A70 (scope of 4,000 m. with ammunition HEF and able to perform 10 shots per minute) and a 30 mm 2A72, besides by 3 PKTM machine guns of 7.62 x 54R.

Peru converts an offshore patrol frigate Lupo

President of Peru, Ollanta Humala and Minister of Defence , Peter Cateriano , officially delivered the first ocean patrol ship of the Navy of Peru ( MGP ) during ceremony at the marginal wharf Callao Naval Base .
It is the former missile frigate type Lupo , BAP Carvajal , the first of its kind to arrive at the port of Callao on March 1979 and thus gave its name to the series of four units contracted Italy . Two of them were built in the local shipyard SIMA Peru .
In the first half of the last decade, the Peruvian Navy acquired four other frigates Lupo , second hand, to Italy.
The unit has been assigned to the DG and Coastguards , and renamed Oceanic Patrol BAP Midshipman San Martín (PO-201). conversion and transfer was anticipated during interview by Infodefensa.com Admiral (R) Jorge Montoya , a early December. See note .


During the ceremony, the commanding general of the MGP, Admiral Carlos Tejada Mera stated that this unit becomes the largest tonnage patrol in the country's history and received his pavilion will increase actions for monitoring and surveillance of maritime domain , safeguarding its resources and combat unlawful acts in it.
The BAP Midshipman San Martin is playing its first mission in the maritime area as Peruvian recently recognized by the International Court of Justice in The Hague . Accompanied by research vessel BAP Melo , takes a survey and oceanographic survey of the area to collect data on types and quantities of marine species for future fishing.


Conversion
The frigate was put to work to dismantle antiship missiles, antiaircraft and redundant systems in order to adapt it to patrol missions. Retains its main piece of 127-mm cannons and two 40/70-mm. The work was conducted in SIMA Callao .
According to unofficial information, it is likely that a second frigate is also converted to patrol ocean, so the force area have only six frigates, and six corvettes PR-72 as the main component.
The ship has a displacement of approximately 2,500 tons full load (settings missile frigate), a de113 length, 2 meters, a beam of 11.3 meters, a mainstay of 7.95 meters, a depth of 3.7 meters, and its maximum speed is 35 knots.

Airbus Defence & Space a signé ce 24 avril un contrat avec le ministère péruvien de la Défense pour le développement, la réalisation et le lancement du premier satellite d'observation optique du Pérou.

Approuvé sur le principe en décembre dernier par le gouvernement péruvien après un an de négociations - et un passage d'une résolution de métrique à submétrique en cours de route - ce contrat fera l'objet d'un accord intergouvernemental entre Lima et Paris, la France apportant sa garantie au programme.

Le contrat s'élèverait à 579 millions de soles (150 M€) pour une livraison à la mi-2016 avec un lancement sur Vega. Airbus DS a remporté ce marché face à sa filiale britannique SSTL, à Deimos en Espagne et à IAI-MBT en Israël.

Basé sur une plateforme agile Astrobus 300, le satellite péruvien - parfois présenté sous le nom provisoire de « PerúSat 1 » - sera doté d'un instrument Naomi (New AstroSat Optical Modular Instrument) à très haute résolution (70 cm) réalisé par Airbus DS avec des structures et des miroirs en carbure de silicium fournis par sa filiale tarbaise Boostec.

Airbus DS fournira le segment sol associé et la formation des équipes péruviennes qui exploiteront le satellite. En attendant l'entrée en service du satellite, Airbus DS assurera la réception directe, au Pérou, des images optiques et radar collectées par sa propre flotte de satellite.

Outre la surveillance du territoire et de frontières souvent difficiles d'accès et contestées, le satellite péruvien permettra de gérer les ressources naturelles mais aussi de suivre les activités des groupes terroristes du Sentier Lumineux, les opérations de production de narcotiques, le défrichement clandestin et l'orpaillage illégal.

Ce contrat intervient alors qu'Airbus DS est également en pourparlers avec les Forces aériennes chiliennes (FACh) pour l'achat d'un second petit satellite d'observation optique basé sur la plateforme Astrobus 100 afin de succéder au SSOT (Sistema Satelital para Observación de la Tierra) lancé en 2011.

Le marché de l'observation spatiale est actuellement en pleine effervescence en Amérique latine puisque des appels d'offres sont également en cours en Colombie et en Equateur. Bogota souhaiterait notamment se doter d'une paire de satellites - un optique et un radar - pour lesquels Thales Alenia Space serait sur les rangs.

En parallèle, les deux industriels, qui ont remporté un contrat pour deux satellites au Maroc l'an dernier (sous l'égide de TAS), sont dans l'expectative concernant la finalisation du contrat FalconEye aux Emirats Arabes Unis (sous l'égide d'Airbus DS), approuvé l'été dernier et interrompu en fin d'année en raison de manœuvres américaines sur les licences Itar de certains composants clés.

Airbus DS doit aussi lancer le 29 avril le satellite d'observation à très haute résolution KazEOSat 1 (830 kg), qui utilise la variante de plateforme Astrobus 500, sur le troisième vol du petit lanceur Vega.
