Shimshon officially declared gas discovery
The Shimshon license has a best estimate of 2.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas with a 20% geological probability of success.
Isramco Ltd. (Nasdaq: ISRL; TASE: ISRA.L) and ATP Oil & Gas Corporation (Nasdaq: ATPG) have officially declared the Shimshon well a natural gas discovery. The net thickness of the Miocene-Oligocene target strata is 19 meters.
The Shimshon well, located 91 kilometers northwest of Ashdod, was drilled in 1,103-meter deep water and reached a depth of 4,429 meters, including the water. Well operator ATP carried out various tests and data collection, including electrical logs, examination of rock samples, chemical analysis of the natural gas, and pressure in the reservoir, which led to the conclusion of natural gas at the well.
ATP says that the quantity of gas discovered justifies an examination of resources for the estimation of the reservoir and commercial production. Under Israel Securities Authority rules, Isramco has 60 days to report on the estimated resources needed from the conclusion of the production tests.
Earlier this week, Isramco announced the results of the production tests at the Shimshon well, which took 35 days. The well produced 39.08 million cubic feet of gas and 9.3 million barrels of condensate, at an average rate of 22.7 million cubic feet of gas a day.
The Shimshon license has a best estimate of 2.3 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas with a 20% geological probability of success. The probability of success is lower than for the Tamar Sands formation, and the quantity of gas is just over a quarter of the 9 TCF Tamar discovery.
Isramco and its affiliates own 60% of Shimshon, ATP owns 40%, and . Isramco has agreed to sell 10% of the license rights to Modiin Energy LP (TASE:MDIN.L), controlled by Nochi Dankner's IDB Holding Corp. Ltd. (TASE:IDBH) and Tzahi Sultan, although the terms of the sale have not yet been met. Globes

Boeing integrates Elbit Systems helmets for F-15 SE
Next-generation helmets developed by Elbit System unit VSI have been validated for use in the F-15 Silent Eagle, a stealth version of the combat jet.
The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) has validated the integration of next-generation helmets developed Vision Systems International LLC (VSI), a joint venture of Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) and Rockwell Collins Inc. (NYSE: ROC), in the new F-15 Silent Eagle, a stealth version of the combat jet.
Use of the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System II/h (JHMCS II/h) is part of the development of the multi-role jet fighter. The JHMCS II/h allows a pilot to aim sensors and weapons wherever he or she is looking, through the use of new head-tracking technology and a display projected onto the helmet's visor. The JHMCS II/h is a development of VSI's JHMCS system which offers significantly improved ergonomics and reliability, at lower cost.
The new head-tracking technology is significantly easier to maintain while requiring less support equipment than previous trackers. Electronics enhancements enable all processing to be done within the helmet, eliminating most aircraft-mounted equipment, which also contributes to the system's overall cost savings. The system provides an easy transition in flight between day and night modes, greatly increasing mission flexibility.
Boeing is presenting the F-15 Silent Eagle as a relatively cheap stealth combat jet for the future battlefield. In contrast the expensive stealth planes, such as the F-22 and F-35 fighters and B-2 bomber, which carry their ordinance, avionics systems, and fuel within the airframe, the F-15 Stealth Eagle carries them in special pods beneath the wings and fuselage, using advanced aerodynamics and avionics to minimize the plane's radar signature.
Boeing JHMCS program manager Greg Hardy said, "Integrating this enhanced system onto the Silent Eagle took less than three months between 'go-ahead' and first flight."
VSI president Phil King said, "Technology advancements are reshaping the military helmet-mounted display market. The rapid validation of the maturity and effectiveness of several such technologies in this demonstration program has shown that we can meet and exceed the performance baselines established by the extremely successful legacy JHMCS design while also providing new capabilities and reducing cost to the customer."

Israeli President Simon Peres visits Athens
Athens - Israeli President Simon Peres is visiting Greece for the first time as Head of State, to discuss co-operation between the two countries and Israeli investment in the Mediterranean country. Greek President Karolos Papoulias welcomed Mr. Peres at the presdential mansion on Monday, saying “Your presence here highlights our two people’s desire for cooperation on various sectors." Following his meeting with Papoulias the Israeli Prime Minister is due to hold talks with Greek Prime Minister Anthonis Samaras, followed by meetings with SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras, and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos. During his three-day visit he will also meet with members of the Jewish community in Athens. Peres spoke of boosting the ties between the two countries. Ekathimerini reported he said “Greece has high mountains, which will bring you tourists but you also need high technology, which will bring you investment. About 20 percent of Greece’s land can be cultivated. We can do a lot of things and would be happy if we can help. Quite a few Israeli investors are interested.” According to To Vima Peres also praised the Greek people, saying "The Greeks are wonderful people with wonderful youth. The new generation is one that can bring development to the country wants. " The official visit is expected to strengthen strategic ties between Israel and Greece. Greece, together with Cyprus, could become an important ally with Israel when the untapped oil and gas resources of the two countries are exploited. Additionally good relations between Israel and Greece have boosted Israeli tourism to Greece, with 400,000 Israelis already vacationing in Greece this year. Peres has taken the time to regale the Greek media with a tale of how his father hid in a Greek monastery during the Second World War.

India's government in March banned several foreign defense contractors from bidding on contracts. The restrictions are to last a decade India is a key export market for Israeli defense firms, including Israel Military Industries, Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems.
Defense imports are critical for India's defense establishment, which, lacking a domestic military industrial base, remains dependent on foreign imports for roughly 70 percent of its military purchases. The ban, which includes IMI, has attracted critics, as shortsighted.
"We can expect the indigenous manufacture of ammunition to be slow, and we will have to import more artillery ammunition in the future as a result of the ban," retired Brigadier Gen. Rahul Bhonsle with New Delhi's Sasia Security-risks.com Pvt Ltd. told The Times of India. "Many of the banned firms are the owners of proprietary technologies. These technologies may not be available with other contractors, so the country's defense establishment is set to lose access to such technology."
New Delhi's Society for the Study of Peace and Conflict Vice President Deba Ranjan Mohanty added, "This is a lose-lose situation for both the companies banned from bidding contracts and the country, which is heavily dependent on foreign countries for purchasing arms and defense technologies." The situation "is not a very happy one," she said. "The blacklisting act was thus necessary to make the system more transparent," Moanty said. "The defense firms will be more careful and not indulge in unfair practices as a result."
Israeli arms sale to India are longstanding -- in the 2001-06 period India purchased arms worth nearly $15 billion from Israel. In March, India announced it had blacklisted the six weapons firms, including IMI, in connection with an alleged bribery scandal in 2009. "We are surprised by the Indian Defense ministry's decision because the process of hearings over the intended sanctions against the company has not been completed," IMI spokesman Josh Hantman said when the ban was imposed.
Hantman added that the decision was premature and unexpected, "especially in light of the fact that IMI had good reasons to oppose this measure. The Israeli Defense ministry will consult with Israel Military Industries about how to respond to the Indian Defense Ministry decision." The fiscal stakes are immense, as India intends to spend upward of $100 billion in acquiring weapon systems and platforms over the next decade.
Among those nations seeking to increase their market share is the United States. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter recently said, "As a country committed to enduring peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, India deserves the best military equipment available ... India is a top priority in our export considerations. "Practically, we want to be India's highest-quality and most trusted long-term supplier of technology ... We trust India and know India is not a re-exporter or exploiter of our technologies."
