China’s Military Monkey Commandos: destroy nests for aircraft safety
By Dylan Vosman -  Aug 27, 2015

Armée Chinoise / People's Liberation Army (PLA) - Page 23 China411

he United States, Russia, and Ukraine have all used dolphins, sea lions and beluga whales in their Naval forces before, and K-9 units are common in many defense forces, but now a new country and animal is joining the military creature scene. China has introduced a group of macaque monkeys to their air force division. According to the Chinese state controlled media, the monkeys joined the People’s Liberation Army to defend against birds. That’s right, the monkeys are up against birds.

Armée Chinoise / People's Liberation Army (PLA) - Page 23 China412

Migrating birds have caused issues on the base. (Chinese officials would not confirm which base the monkeys are at, simply referring to it as a Beijing air force base.) The base these monkeys are stationed in sits on one of the largest bird migratory channels in the world, and it is surrounded by the pear blossom trees they like to nest in. In the event they fly into the aircraft engines, the results could be catastrophic; enough to bring down a plane.

In the past, the soldiers used a variety of tactics to rid themselves of the birds: scarecrows, netting, firecrackers, ammunition, and even climbing into the trees to destroy nests. Nothing seemed to work.

Chine, premier vol du Rainbow 5 !

Armée Chinoise / People's Liberation Army (PLA) - Page 23 326

China launches latest Yaogan-series satellite

Andrew Tate, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
01 September 2015

China placed its latest satellite in orbit on 27 August, carried by a Long March 4C rocket launched from the Taiyuan satellite launch centre in northern China.

Yaogan-27 was described by Chinese media as a remote sensing satellite to be used for land surveys, crop yield forecasts, and disaster relief, although this is a commonly used description and space analysts assess it to be a military surveillance satellite.

The launch was China's fourth this year, with Beidou navigation satellites launched in March and July, and a China High-Resolution Earth Observation (CHEOS) satellite placed in orbit in June.

Chinese media also published photographs on 27 August of debris from a rocket booster that fell through the roof of a villager's house, although the connection with the satellite launch was not explicitly reported.

Five Chinese naval ships spotted in Bering Sea: Pentagon
By Agence France-Presse -September 3, 2015

Washington: The Pentagon on Wednesday confirmed the presence of five Chinese naval vessels in the Bering Sea between Russia and Alaska, which US President Barack Obama is currently visiting.

It was believed to be the first time Chinese military ships have been spotted in the area and is another sign of China’s global presence expanding far beyond its own shores.

“We respect the freedom of all nations to operate military vessels in international waters in accordance with international law. We are aware of the five People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships in the Bering Sea,” said Commander Bill Urban, a Pentagon spokesman, confirming a story first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

“This is the first time we have observed PLAN ships in the Bering Sea.”

The vessels are in international waters near the Aleutians, a chain of islands that fan out from the Alaskan mainland. The boats comprise three combat ships, an amphibious ship and a replenishment vessel.

China became a permanent observer to the Arctic Council in 2013 and has shown increased interest in the region’s energy reserves. The council’s members are the eight Arctic states: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.

Obama is currently in Alaska for a three-day tour of the vast state to raise awareness of the effects of climate change.

China on Thursday will assert its military might with a large parade commemorating the end of World War II. The display will feature 12,000 Chinese troops marching through Tiananmen Square alongside gleaming tanks and missiles, as fighter jets scream overhead.

Chinese troops stationed in Tibet

The China has never denied that there is a Tibetan territory. There are disputes over the precise boundaries of the Tibetan territory, but it is clear that the frontier of historic and ethnic Tibet extends beyond the boundaries of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). Tibetan areas within the PRC but outside the TAR have been incorporated into the surrounding Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan, and Yunnan. The Tibetan province of -Tsang forms the greater part of the TAR; the Tibetan province of Amdo forms a large part of Qinghai, although a small portion lies in Gansu; and the Tibetan province of Kham is divided among Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan, and the TAR

China and Pakistan air forces launched joint military drills Shaheen-4

Chinese and Pakistani air forces on Sunday Sept. 6th launched joint drill codenamed Shaheen-4 (Eagle-4) by pressing in several contingents of fighter jets, bombers and early warning aircraft. The joint exercise is part of a series of military exchange programmes between the two air forces, Chinese Air Force spokesperson Shen Jinke said.

The two air forces deployed contingent fighter jets, bombers and early warning planes, Shen said. He however, did not say how long the drill would last nor disclosed the area where it is taking place.
The first such drill was held in Pakistan in March 2011, the second in China's western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in September 2013, and the third was held in Punjab, Pakistan, in May last year.

Shen said that China's Air Force was willing to expand the scope of cooperation with various countries.

Over the years China has emerged as Pakistan's prime military weapon supplier as they forged close strategic relationship. The two countries jointly produce the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft.

Reports in Beijing said Pakistan plans to acquire another of China's multi role fighter the J-10. J-10's first overseas buyer will be Pakistan, Fu Qianshao, an aviation equipment expert with China's People's Liberation Army Air Force told official the media recently.

According to the official media reports, China is wooing Iran to buy 150 jets of J-10 in the backdrop of lifting of UN sanctions.

Pakistan has dispatched a 75-member military contingent to take part in the September 3rd massive military parade held in Beijing to commemorate the 70 anniversary of victory against Japan in WW-II.

China reveals its new Z-19E light attack helicopter By Dylan Vosman - Sep 8, 2015

China’s light attack helicopter, Z-19E, developed by Harbin Aircraft Industrial Corporation already attracts much attention before the third International Helicopter Exposition held in Tianjin from Sept. 9-13, 2015. The Z-19E  export version-  Harbin Z-19, also called WZ-19, is a Chinese reconnaissance/attack helicopter developed by Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (HAMC) for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force and the Ground Force Air Force. It is an improved variant of the Harbin Z-9 and hence a distant cousin of the Eurocopter Dauphin.

China Begins Work on New Stealth Attack Helicopter By Dylan Vosman - Sep 11, 2015

China has begun to develop a fourth-generation attack helicopter and expects to deliver it to the People’s Liberation Army around 2020, according to Aviation Industry Corp of China. The company disclosed the information in a media brochure distributed to domestic journalists taking part in the Third China Helicopter Expo, which opened on Wednesday in Tianjin. This is the first time that China has confirmed it is developing a new-generation combat helicopter. The company gave no further details. However, Lin Zuoming, AVIC’s chairman, said on the sidelines of the expo that the new aircraft will have stealth capability and will reshape the combat patterns of the PLA ground force. “It is a trend that the ground force will become increasingly dependent on helicopters because they have better strike capability and mobility than armored vehicles, and can transport supplies to frontier troops in a timely manner,” he said. Wu Ximing, chief helicopter designer at the State-owned defense contractor, said the new helicopter will also feature supreme maneuverability in complicated environments, outstanding survivability and joint operational ability. China now has the second-generation WZ-9, and third-generation WZ-10 and WZ-19, in its combat helicopter fleet. Their major tasks are anti-tank warfare and air support missions for infantry troops, as well as air-to-air combat. The United States began to test the world’s first fourth-generation attack helicopter, the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche, in 1996. It canceled the project in 2004 for a host of reasons, including technical specifications and budget cuts. Russian media previously quoted Andrei Shibitov, deputy CEO of Russian Helicopters, as reporting that Russia is researching designs for a fourth-generation combat helicopter that is expected to have a low radar signature, a long range, an ultrafast speed and low noise and should be able to confront fighter jets. According to an article carried in China Aviation News, a newspaper owned by AVIC, in May last year, Chinese helicopter engineers were developing a bearingless main rotor, a cutting-edge technology key to the fourth-generation helicopter. In addition to the new combat helicopter, AVIC is also working on a medium-lift utility helicopter, which made its debut flight in December 2013. Called by aviation observers the Z-20, the utility helicopter is supposed to ease a longtime shortage of such aircraft in the Chinese ground force and Navy. Chinese designers are also working on the development of ultrafast helicopters that can achieve a speed of 700 km/h, according to AVIC.
