- NSC to continue training of Kuwait's Armed Forces
30 May 2013 British simulation training company NSC has been awarded a contract to continue working with Kuwait's armed forces for three additional years.
Under the contract, the company will provide computer-assisted decision-making exercises to help prepare the country's future military commanders at the Mubarak Al Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
The company will train the region's armed forces and other agencies for a broad spectrum of operationally relevant scenarios using its Joint Operations Command and Staff Training System (JOCASTS).
NSC managing director Jeremy Spurr said the company has first-hand experience of Kuwait's determination to develop military leaders of the future.
"Through our continued support of the excellent directing staff at the Mubarak Al Abdullah Joint Command and Staff College, NSC is focused on providing world-class training that will preserve this operational advantage and ultimately enhance the national security of the state of Kuwait," Spurr said. Having supported training programmes at the facility since being established by the British military mission in 1996, NSC will enable Kuwait's military to simulate the defence of its borders and critical national infrastructure.
The company will also deploy its experienced team to closely work with directing staff at the college for preparation of bespoke exercises, which will reflect the ever-changing nature of peacekeeping.
Readily modified to feature specific threats and actions, JOCASTS is designed to offer a mix of virtual incidents and live-feeds, and realistic strategic training for staff officers in the conduct of joint and combined operations within complex environments.
The system is also used by the British military to prepare commanders and headquarters staff for the challenges of modern-day combat operations at the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) in Oxfordshire, UK.

- Kuwait asks F/A-18 support
Published: June 11, 2013 at 12:14 PM
WASHINGTON, June 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale of technical and logistics support to Kuwait. The deal would support the country's fleet of F/A-18 C/D aircraft and carries an estimated value of $200 million. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the package would include avionics software upgrades, engine component improvements, ground support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical documentation, and engineering change proposals. The principal contractor would be General Dynamics, Boeing and Wyle Laboratories. The assignment of 90 U.S. government and contractor representatives to Kuwait for three years to establish and maintain operational capability would be required, the agency said. "The proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East," DSCA said in its notification. "The proposed sale of this support will not alter the basic military balance in the region."

Kuwait's Ministry of Defense says it is moving to finalize the procurement of armored combat vehicles 8X8 for mechanized brigade of the Army of Kuwait, announced the military portal http://www.tacticalreport.com/. Unofficially, we find that the Duro Dakovic with AMV vehicle passed the test with honors. Although Kuwait is not precisely determine the amount of vehicle you purchased, we found out that this number will be between 100 and 140 vehicles for various purposes, including remote-controlled armed cells 30mm.
However, it should be very modest when it comes to Kuwait and the Middle East, since the final decision could be spread over several months, if at all only policy.

- Kuwaiti C-17 Emerges
The first of two Boeing C-17 Globemasters destined for the Kuwait Air Force has emerged from the company’s Long Beach assembly line.
The aircraft is the second C-17 to wear a high-visibility colour scheme, wearing the bright white and silver scheme also worn by the air arm’s L-100 Hercules. Qatar’s Emiri Air Force also operates a colourful C-17 which wears the colours of the national carrier, Qatar Airways, although it is flown by air force pilots.
Boeing has not formally confirmed Kuwait as a customer for the heavy airlifter, but it will join a rapidly growing population of C-17s in the Gulf Region. The type is already flying with aforementioned Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Saudi Arabia maybe in the bidding for at least some of the 13 “white-tailed” aircraft being produced by Long Beach before the C-17 line closes in 2015.
The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) detailed a request from Kuwait for a single C-17 back in September 2010. The country then registered interest in a second aircraft in April 2013.
The C-17, photographed by Californian photographer, Michael Carter, is yet to make its first flight, but should be delivered in the coming weeks.
Kuwait is modernizing its air arm. As well as C-17s, it is also investing in C-130J and KC-130J Hercules and is also looking at purchasing a new fighter aircraft to replace its McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C/D Hornets.

- Eurofighter in lead to sell 28 planes to Kuwait
(AFP) – 14 hours ago Paris — The European Eurofighter consortium has signed a draft agreement to sell 28 of its fighter planes to Kuwait, online French newspaper La Tribune reported on Thursday.
Of the 28 outline sales, which are not yet binding, four are covered by options to purchase, the report said.
The report, citing various sources, said that Alenia Aermacchi, a subsidiary of Italian group Finmeccanica which is a member of the consortium, had obtained Kuwait's signature on the agreement a few days before Brazil announced that it had chosen to buy Gripen fighter planes made by Swedish company Saab.
Brazil chose the Gripen in preference to the Rafale made by French group Dassault Aviation and the F/A-18 Super Hornet plane made by US group Boeing.
Alenia Aermacchi is responsible alongside British aerospace and defence equipment group BAE Systems for promoting the Eurofighter Typhoon which is in competition for the Kuwait contract with the Rafale 3 and the Super Hornet.
The report said that if Kuwait did choose to buy the Eurofighter Typhoon, the decision would be a surprise given "the extent to which Kuwait is under American influence since the first Gulf war" in 1990-1991 to counter the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq.
Kuwait, which is already equipped with US-built F/A-18C/D Hornet fighter planes, wants to develop its fleet of fighters, the report said.
The Eurofighter consortium groups BAE Systems, Finmeccanica, and the European aerospace giant Airbus Group, which changed its name on January 1 from EADS.

- Boeing Delivers Kuwait Air Force’s 1st C-17 Globemaster III
LONG BEACH, Calif., Feb. 13, 2014 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today delivered Kuwait's first C-17 Globemaster III airlifter, an aircraft that will expand the Kuwait Air Force's capabilities in military and civilian operations, including humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
"The C-17 meets the unique airlift requirements of the Kuwait Air Force," said Col. Abdullah Al Foudari, Deputy Commander Kuwait Air Force. "With this airlifter we can more effectively participate in the operations we choose, transporting large payloads across long distances, flying at high altitudes in hot climates such as ours, and landing on short, unpaved runways."
A custom paint design distinguishes the Kuwait C-17 from the 259 others that have been delivered to customers around the world.
"When this C-17 arrives to deliver humanitarian aid or disaster relief anywhere in the world, people in need will know that the aid came from Kuwait," said Col. Abdullah.
"We welcome Kuwait to the global C-17 fleet with the knowledge that this aircraft elevates the Kuwait Air Force’s airlift capabilities and also further strengthens Boeing's relationship with Kuwait," said Nan Bouchard, vice president and C-17 program manager. "We will support this C-17 long after today's delivery."
Boeing will support Kuwait's C-17 fleet through the C-17 Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Program, a proven multinational Performance-Based Logistics program.
Boeing has delivered 260 C-17s, including 223 to the U.S. Air Force, and a total of 37 to Kuwait, Australia, Canada, India, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the 12-member Strategic Airlift Capability initiative of NATO and Partnership for Peace nations. http://boeing.mediaroom.com
