Ce passage est à retenir, très souvent dans les suppositions d'achat les membres proposent le matos russe arguant qu'il est moins cher et plus abrodable à l'achat, et oublient qu'il est plus couteux en MCO et autres.

NEW DELHI — The Indian Air Force is entering the global market to buy six additional aerostat radars for more than $400 million, a decision that avoids awarding a repeat order to Rafael of Israel.
In the next one or two months, India will float tenders to Britain’s BAE Systems, U.S. companies Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, France’s Thales, Israel Aerospace Industries and Russia’s Rosoboronexport, sources said.
The Indian Ministry of Defence agreed with the Air Force that fresh bids from the global market were better than giving repeat orders to
Rafael. Air Force officials were not satisfied with the maintenance of two aerostat radars Rafael supplied, sources said.
Specifically, one of the two aerostat radars supplied by Rafael in 2007 was damaged in inclement weather along the Pakistan border in 2009 and has yet to become operational.
An Indian MoD source said Rafael demanded a high price for repair of the damaged radar, annoying the MoD.
The radars were based on a 2005 contract for three radars, which was awarded on a single-vendor basis.
Rafael executives in India were unavailable for comment on the accusations.
The state-owned Defence Research and Development Organisation is developing two home-grown aerostat prototypes. The total requirement is close to 30 in the next 10 years.
Radars mounted on aerostats, or tethered balloons, provide long-range, low-altitude detection of hostile aircraft. The Air Force requires the aerostat radars, which can be raised to 15,000 feet above sea level.
The aerostat radars to be purchased will include an advanced programmable radar, electronic intelligence, communication intelligence, V/UHF radio telephone equipment and identification-friend-or-foe technology. The radars will have a coverage area of 10 to 350 kilometers and be able to pick up targets ranging from ground level to 30,000 feet.
In addition, the payload will include an air surveillance radar to detect missiles and fighter aircraft at various ranges, a surface surveillance radar and a combined surveillance radar for air and surface targets.
“Both India and Pakistan are using aerostat radars, and the need for deployment of such systems has increased further to monitor of low-flying aircraft,” defense analyst Nitin Mehta said. “Each aerostat is capable of providing a three-dimensional, low-altitude coverage equal to more than 40 ground-based radars.”
Even the Indian Navy is planning to deploy aerostat radars for surveillance along the coastal border, an Indian Navy official said.

Airbus Wins India’s Tanker Rebid
NEW DELHI — Airbus has been selected as the preferred vendor over Russia’s Ilyushin to supply six aerial tankers for the Indian Air Force in a $1 billion tender, according to Indian Defence Ministry officials.
After the commercial bids were opened earlier this month, the base price of the Russian Il-78 tanker was quoted as lower than that of the A330, but when factoring in maintenance and fuel costs, the Airbus was the better value, said a Defence Ministry official. The official refused to provide the exact quotes of the bids, and said the
Russian government-owned company had not yet been officially informed about the decision.
Russian diplomats confirmed they had not been informed of the Airbus selection.
Boeing withdrew from the competition in 2010, leaving only the A330 and Il-78 in competition. The tender in 2010 also was sent to EADS, Lockheed Martin and Antonov of Ukraine. Antonov did not qualify, and Lockheed and Boeing did not participate.
The Indian Air Force is using six Il-78 midair refuelers bought from Uzbekistan and plans to buy 12 additional tankers, which includes the six from Airbus.
Defence Ministry sources said it is not yet decided if a fresh tender will be opened to buy the remaining six or if a repeat order will be given to the winner to the current competition.
The current tender is itself a rebid of a 2006 tender in which the A330 finished behind the Il-78 tanker, but the Indian Air Force preferred the European tanker. When the matter was sent to India’s Finance Ministry, it said the lowest bidder should be the winner. The controversy led to the cancellation of the tender.
Defence Minister A.K. Antony wrote the Indian Parliament on Dec. 14, 2009, that the Finance Ministry had expressed reservations about the competition.
“The procurement proposal had been progressed in accordance with the Defence Procurement Procedure — 2006 and thereafter referred to the Ministry of Finance who has expressed certain reservations relating to the competitiveness of the bids and the reasonableness of the price,” Antony wrote.
The Indian Air Force plans to deploy the tankers at Panagarh Air Base in the eastern state of West Bengal to help increase the range of its Su-30MKI fighter jets, which would enable the Indian aircraft to penetrate deeply into China, an Air Force official said.
In addition to lower fuel costs, the Airbus tanker is optimized for high-altitude cruise and fitted with advance avionics, the IAF official said.

MiG-29K carrier trials for India completed
RAC MiG has completed sea trials of its MiG-29K/KUB combat aircraft involving the Indian navy's future aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, with deliveries under New Delhi's 2010 contract on track to start late this year.
"All tests on the ship have been completed successfully, and the customer signed the respective protocol. We no longer need a carrier [for trials]," says RAC MiG general director Sergei Korotkov. The Indian navy has already received 16 K-model fighters and KUB-variant trainers from a previous order, and "these aircraft are being successfully operated", he adds.

Meanwhile, a first batch of six Indian air force MiG-29s to be upgraded to an improved UPG standard have been completed at the Russian company's Lukhovitsy plant to the south of Moscow. Introducing a new avionics suite harmonised with that of the MiG-29K, the work is being performed under a March 2008 contract, with 90% of the aircraft to be modified in India under Russian supervision.
Speaking at the Lukhovitsy site on 25 October, Korotkov said RAC MiG has "a considerable backlog of orders from the local customer and foreign countries, which gives us a high workload through to 2017". This represents business worth more than $6 billion, he added.
In addition to building new deck-based fighters for the Indian and Russian navies, the company is also on schedule to hand over its first MiG-35s to the Russian air force next year. Korotkov says he expects the Russian defence ministry to order more of the latter type in 2013-14.

Textron Begins CBU-105 Weapon Deliveries To India

U.S. firm Textron Defense Systems has begun deliveries of 512 CBU-105 sensor fuzed munitions to India. The company began deliveries of the weapon system to the U.S. Air Force in September -- it is a foreign military sale (FMS) to India and therefore needs to be routed through the applicable U.S. service -- and will complete deliveries by the end of the year. Deliveries to the Indian Air Force by the U.S. Air Force are likely to begin early 2013.
A 2010 government to government contract worth $257.73-million was cleared after India expressed interest in the weapon in 2008. Textron began production for the Indian order in February 2011. The weapon is likely to be deployed from the IAF's Jaguar strike aircraft and Su-30MKI air dominance fighters.
As a result of treaties on cluster munitions that India and the US are not signatories to, India's interest in the CBU-105 has been perceived as controversial, though the Indian government has persistently committed to the use of such weapons only against military targets.

Les médias indiens, citant des sources au sein du gouvernement, ont auparavant annoncé que l'Armée de terre entendait acheter 25.000 obus Invar destinés aux chars T-90 dont elle est équipée. Sur ce nombre, 10.000 seront achetés en Russie et 15.000 seront fabriqués en Inde sous licence russe.
Par ailleurs, les forces armées indiennes entendent faire l'acquisition d'au moins 10.000 obus guidés anti-char Konkours-M fabriqués en Russie. Selon les médias indiens, le montant de ce contrat s'élèverait à 240 millions de dollars.

Russia set to deliver another missile frigate to India
KALININGRAD, Nov 9 (IANS): The second of three stealth frigates that Russia is building for India at the Yantar Shipyard in the Baltic exclave of Kaliningrad will be handed over on Friday.
Shipyard spokesman Sergei Mikhailov said the solemn ceremony for delivering the warship will be attended by high-ranking Russian and India militaryofficers.
Russia and India signed a $1.6 billion contract for constructing three modified Krivak III class (also known as Talwar class) guided missile frigates in 2006. The first frigate, INS Teg, was inducted into the Indian Navy on April 27.
The third frigate, INS Trikand, is currently undergoing dock trials and will be inducted into the Indian Navy in the summer of 2013 after completes sea trials in the Baltic.
The new frigates are armed with eight BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. They are also equipped with a 100-mm gun, a Shtil surface-to-air missile system, two Kashtan air-defense gun/missile systems, two twin 533-mm torpedo launchers, and an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter.
Russia has previously built three Talwar class frigates for India - INS Talwar, INS Trishul and INS Tabar.

India in talks with Russia to upgrade Sukhoi combat jet fleet
New Delhi: India has opened talks with Russia to upgrade its fleet of air superiority Sukhoi Su-30s with a new radar and avionics to make the fighters more lethal than what they already are. The upgrades are likely to begin in 2015.
However, a debate is currently in progress between the two nations on India getting full access to all software and equipment design of the new systems that will be integrated on the upgraded Sukhois, a senior Indian Air Force (IAF) officer told IANS.
"We have begun talks with Russia on modifying the Sukhois and giving them the latest technologies," the officer said of the combat jets that were first inducted by IAF in 1997.
The planes, considered to be in the heavy category of fighter aircraft, are the most advanced the IAF has and is the frontline plane for all forms of airborne warfare.
"The modified Sukhoi will be an entirely new plane in terms of radar and avionics," said the officer, who is in the know of the discussions with Russia.
"We are currently holding a dialogue with Russia for full access to software and design of equipment to be integrated to the aircraft," he added.
India has raised eight of the 14 planned Sukhoi squadrons till now with the ninth squadron planned for raising in Sirsa, Haryana, in December.
Six months from then, India will raise its 10th Sukhoi squadron in the Punjab sector under the Western Air Command.
This will be the third and fourth Su-30MKI squadron of the IAF to be deployed close to the Pakistan border in two years, after Jodhpur in Rajasthan in October 2011 and Halwara in Punjab in September 2012.
It also plans to raise two more squadrons in the eastern sector, adding to the existing two squadrons there.
Besides, four more Sukhoi squadrons will be raised by 2015, completing the entire 272-plane complement of the fleet.
After the raising of these squadrons, India will start upgrading the fleet beginning with the first 50 Sukhois it had inducted in 1997.
India has till now lost three Sukhoi planes in crashes - the first one in April 2009, the second in November 2009 and the third in December 2011. While two IAF pilots were killed in the first accident, two pilots each bailed out to safety in the second and third crashes.
The twin-seater Sukhois are also being modified for carrying the India-Russia joint venture BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

Four Indian naval submarines, from both Sindhughosh (EKM) and Shishumar (HDW) classes, took part in the Indo-U.S. exercise, Indiaex-2012, held off Goa early this month where the compatibility of the submarine rescue system of the U.S. Navy with Indian Navy submarines was tested for the first time. The fortnight-long exercise, meant to demonstrate the rescue of personnel from a disabled submarine, held special significance for the Indian Navy, which operates an ageing fleet of submarines but does not have a Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) of its own. During the sea phase of the exercise, the Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System (SRDRS) of the U.S. Navy’s Undersea Rescue Command was pressed into action to bring to safety Indian submariners holed up in Indian submarines simulating various distress scenarios. In all, four Indian submarines took the dive, one daily, during the mock-up. Responding to the distress alert, a pressurised rescue module from the launch and recovery system fitted on board a non-military vessel was launched and manoeuvred to the required depth to mate with the forward hatches of the submarine in distress. Pressure inside the submarine and the rescue system was equalised before opening the hatch to effect the safe transfer of personnel. The Indian submarines that took part in the exercise underwent minor modifications to be able to pair off with the pressurised module, which can secure up to two dozen personnel at a time. INS Nireekshak, Indian Navy’s deep sea diving support vessel with an on-board submersible capsule called ‘Bell’, assisted in the conduct of the exercise providing safety back-up. It also documented the procedures key to developing interoperability with the U.S. Navy in submarine rescue operations. Commander S.S. Sarna, Commanding Officer of Nireekshak that is based in the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, termed the interaction with the U.S. Navy in the niche field of submarine rescue a professionally satisfying experience. While it has been toying with the idea of buying a couple of DSRVs for sometime now, the Indian Navy still has a lot of ground to cover in possessing a failsafe submarine rescue capability. At present, it relies a great deal on Russian-made pressurised escape suits in the Sindhughosh-class submarines and rescue spheres that can be punched out during trouble (as in fighter aircraft) in Shishumar-class submarines. Nireekshak’s clearance divers operating out of ‘Bell’ could also be of help at limited depths.

Boat rams aircraft carrier INS Viraat near Cochin port
Kochi, Nov 19: A boat operated by the Kerala State Water Transport Department (KSWTD) collided with the aircraft carrier INS Viraat near the Cochin Port yesterday.
The boat was ferrying 100-odd passengers to Vypeen when a German cruise liner 'Celebrity Solistice' suddenly left the Q berth at the port and entered the shipping channel without sounding a siren, KSWTD officials said.
Though the boat stopped midway, its crew lost control after the cruise liner's propellers caused a whirlpool. Consequently, the boat rammed INS Viraat around 4 pm.
The boat's roof was damaged but none of the passengers were hurt, the officials added. The water transport department has ordered an enquiry into the mishap.
'Celebrity Solistice' had arrived here on Nov 17 with nearly 2800 tourists and a 1250-strong crew. Yesterday, the cruise liner started its journey to Port Klang in Malaysia.
According to naval sources, the boat's collision with INS Viraat had not caused any damage to the latter. The Indian Navy's flagship was dry-docked at the Cochin Shipyard earlier this month.
The aircraft carrier's underwater equipment and hull are to be restored here as part of its periodic refit. A coat of corrosion-resistant paint will be applied on the hull, the sources said. The maintenance work is expected to be completed by Feb 2013.
INS Viraat was inducted into the Indian Navy in 1987. The aircraft carrier was originally commissioned into the United Kingdom's Royal Navy as HMS Hermes on Nov 18, 1959.
During the Falklands Conflict between Argentina and the UK in 1982, HMS Hermes was the flagship of the Royal Navy's task force. In 1986, India bought the Centaur class vessel that displaces a staggering 28,000 tonnes.
Incidentally, the country's first ever Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) is being built at the Cochin Shipyard. Construction of the IAC has been delayed because some of the critical parts including the gear box are yet to be delivered.

Indian Coast Guard Ship H-189, the third of the series of twelve Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) designed and built by M/s Griffon Hoverworks Limited (GHL), UK was commissioned today at Mumbai by Vice Admiral SK Sinha, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
The 21 metres long Air Cushion Vehicle with 31 tonnes displacement can achieve a maximum speed of 45 knots. The ACV is capable of undertaking multi-farious tasks such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and rendering assistance to small boats/craft in distress at sea. With the commissioning of H-189, the force level of ICG has gone up to 77 ships & boats and with the planned inductions the force level would be doubling by 2018.
The Air Cushion Vehicle H-189 will be based at Okha under the Administrative and Operational Control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West). The hovercraft is commanded by Commandant YogeshDutta and has a crew of 02 Officers and 11 Enrolled Personnel.
The commissioning ceremony was witnessed by Inspector General SPS Basara, Commander Coast Guard Region (West), DIG BS Yadav, Commander Coast Guard Region (North-West) and other dignitaries from Central and State Government.

The interceptor was fired a few minutes after the target missile was fired from the Integrated Test Range at [color:9cf0=#0000FF !important]Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, about 70 km from Wheeler Island.
India is developing the interceptors which have been successfully tested several times in the past, to provide air-shield to important Indian cities against hostile attacks.

NEW DELHI — India on Nov. 26 said long-time ally Russia would finally hand over a refurbished aircraft carrier next year and end a bitter dispute over the Soviet-era warship caused by rising costs and delays.
The Admiral Gorshkov, now 30 years old, is to fill a vacuum left by the scrapping in 1997 of India’s first aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, which had been in service since 1961.
Defense Minister A.K. Antony told parliament that the end of 2013 has been set as the latest date for the delivery of the 44,570-ton aircraft carrier, renamed INS Vikramaditya by India.
“The delivery of Vikramaditya has been delayed to the last quarter of 2013 against the envisaged delivery schedule of December 2012,” Antony told parliament’s lower house in a statement.
The Indian navy currently has only one operational aircraft carrier, the INS Viraat, which is to be phased out. It is also planning to build one locally.
Moscow accounts for 70 percent of Indian arms supplies, but late deliveries and commercial disagreements have led New Delhi to use other suppliers such as Israel, Britain, France and the United States.
The original delivery date was August 2008, he said, and added its price tag was fixed at $978.4 million in 2004 when the deal was signed, but it was “revised” to $2.3 billion for delivery in 2012.
“The total cost of the project will remain at $2.3 billion at the time of delivery in the last quarter of 2013,” he assured parliament and added technical glitches during trials in the year led to the delay.
The warship required new turbines, boilers, 2,500 kilometers (1,500 miles) of cabling and reinforcement of its flight deck as part of the deal between India and Russian defense export firm Rosoboronexport.
Under the contract, Russian shipyard Sevmash has equipped the vessel with modern weapons, 16 MiG-29 fighter jets and a fleet of anti-submarine helicopters.
The shipyard has insisted the dramatic rise in the cost is mainly due to Indian demands for features not included in the original contract.

11/8/2012 - JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Indian air force has begun sending about 100 airmen to Joint Base Charleston to receive instruction from the 373rd Training Squadron Detachment 5, on how to operate the 10 C-17 Globemaster IIIs they recently purchased.
"The Indian air force purchased the C-17s and they need the training because these Indian airmen are going to be the ones standing up the initial C-17 unit (in India) and we were nominated to be the school house that teaches them," said Tech. Sgt. Paul Higgins, 373rd TRS Detachment 5 electrical environmental instructor.
The 373rd TRS Detachment 5's mission is to provide aircraft maintenance to the Department of Defense and its allies.
"We are learning the basics of the aircraft as well as the technical manual, which is quite helpful in learning the part numbers and other technical aspects of the C-17," said Indian air force Junior Warrant Officer Prakash Chand.
Each specialty-specific class has four students. The length of the course varies by specialty, but usually lasts about four to six weeks.
"We teach across the board" said Higgins. "Every specialty we have on the C-17, we are teaching here. We have electrical environmental, communication, navigation and general crew chief functions, just to name a few."
The training includes classroom time as well as hands on work where the new maintainers apply the skills they learned in the classroom on simulation training aircraft.
"What we're learning here is going to help us to be able to maintain the C-17 aircraft in India," said IAF Junior Warrant Officer Ranbir Singh Rana. "We have very good and experienced instructors and very good communication with them. We are catching on very quickly and when we have questions, they are able to clear up things quickly."
The IAF expects to receive their 10 C-17s in June 2013. India paid $4.1 billion for the aircraft, which is expected to replace their IL-76 fleet.
The C-17 provides the Indian air force with a payload of 164,900 pounds and can take off from a 7,000-foot airfield, fly 2,400 nautical miles, and land on a small, austere airfield with runways of 3,000 feet or less. The C-17 is equipped with an externally blown flap system that allows a steep, low-speed final approach and low-landing speeds for routine short-field landings. www.amc.af.mil The first group of students is slated to graduate Nov. 8.

French Dassault opens Indian subsidiary for Rafale deal Economic Times, Nov 28
NEW DELHI: After bagging the multi-billion dollar contract for supplying 126 Rafale fighter aircraft to IAF, French Dassault Systems [Err: Dassault Aviation] has opened an Indian subsidiary company here.
The company named Dassault Aircraft Services India Private Limited ( DASIPL) was set up recently and it is 100 per cent owned by its French parent company, officials said here.
The new company is headed by a French national Richard Lavaud [R.L. is Dassault Aviation's Director for India], who has worked in India earlier with defence firms,and will work towards finalising the deal with India, they said.
Earlier this year, Dassault Rafale had emerged as the lowest bidder in the IAF tender for supplying 126 combat aircraft edging out its European rival Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft in terms of prices.
The contract has been offered to Dassault and it is negotiating the terms and conditions and the final price of the aircraft with the Indian Defence Ministry officials.
Dassault has also entered into an agreement with Reliance IndustriesBSE 1.66 % Limited (RIL) for partnering in defence and homeland security sectors in the country.
There was a possibility of the two companies working together in the combat aircraft deal here.
After finalising the deal, Dassault will have to reinvest 50 per cent of the contract's worth back into the Indian defence sector.

IAF to upgrade fighter Su-30MKI
New Delhi: The prowess of IAF's frontline fighter aircraft Su-30MKI is set to get a boost with plans to equip them with missiles having a strike range of around 300 kilometres. The plan is to upgrade the first 80 Su-30MKIs to the level 'Super Sukhois' which will have highly advanced radars and weapon systems, IAF sources said.
Su-30 MKIs have been inducted into IAF in four phases. The ones to be upgraded are from the first phase and the project is likely to be completed in the next three to four years, they said.
The sources said the plan involves equipping the aircraft with long-range stand-off missiles upto the range of 300 km and a request for information (ROI) was issued recently for procuring such a weapon system from global vendors.
The missiles with a range around 300 kms would be in addition to the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles which would be carried by around 50 aircraft of the force.
The aircraft would also have the highly-advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar along with the latest avionics systems, they said.
The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will work with the Russian help under a project expected to cost around Rs 10,900 crore for upgrading the Su-30 MKIs.
IAF has a fleet of around 170 Su-30MKIs and it has plans to procure around 272 of them.
So far, orders for 230 aircraft have been placed and plans are to sign a deal for 42 more during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit next month here, the sources said.
The SU-30s were inducted into the IAF in late 90s and at present six squadrons of the aircraft are in service.
The first squadron was of the Su-30 was of the 'K' variant but later they were also upgraded to the latest MKI version. Till now, the IAF has placed orders for around 280 of these heavy air-superiority aircraft of which over 100 have been inducted.
IAF is already upgrading its two main fighter aircraft fleet of 60 MiG-29s and 50 Mirage planes. It is about to sign an around USD two billion deal with France to modernise its Mirage aircraft. The Jaguar, MiG-27 and MiG-21 fleet have already been upgraded by the force.

Israel pips US in anti-tank guided missile supply to India
NEW DELHI: Israel has upstaged the US in [color:182f=#0000FF !important]the ongoing race to bag [color:182f=#0000FF !important]the huge deal to supply third-generation anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) to the Indian Army, in a project which could well be worth $1 billion eventually.
Defence ministry sources said the plan to go in for the American FGM-148 Javelin ATGMs has "virtually been shelved" because of Washington's reluctance to provide full military knowhow - licensed "transfer of technology (ToT)'' - to allow India to indigenously manufacture the "[color:182f=#0000FF !important]tank killers'' in large numbers after an initial off-the-shelf purchase.
Instead, the Army has already completed extensive trials of the Israeli 'Spike' ATGM, which like Javelin is also a shoulder-launched and fire-and-forget missile, under varied conditions in plains, deserts and mountains. "The staff evaluation is now in progress as [color:182f=#0000FF !important]the next step in the procurement process,'' said a source.
The Javelin imbroglio has once again rekindled long-held fears in the Indian defence establishment about the US not being a reliable long-term supplier of cutting-edge military technology. India also detests American conditions on "[color:182f=#0000FF !important]intrusive end-user inspections'' of weapons sold to its armed forces.
The US has notched up military sales worth over $8 billion to India in the last few years, including [color:182f=#0000FF !important]mega deals for C-130J 'Super Hercules', C-17 Globemaster-III and P-8I maritime patrol aircraft, but they did not involve licensed production in India.
The AGTM project, in contrast, involves ToT since the 1.13-million Army wants to equip all its 356 infantry battalions with the man-portable missiles as an effective counter to Pakistani and Chinese main battle tanks. A bulk of the estimated 2,000 launchers and 24,000 missiles required for this are planned for production by defence PSU Bharat Dynamics (BDL) after getting requisite ToT from the selected foreign vendor.
With General Bikram Singh identifying infantry modernization as a major thrust area, the Army wants to complete the induction of these 2.5-km range advanced ATGMs by the end of the 12th Plan (2017).
At present, infantry units are making do with second-generation Milan (2-km range) and Konkurs (4-km) ATGMs, produced by BDL under licence from French and Russian companies, which are wire-guided and do not have fire-and-forget capabilities.
Overall, the Army has an "authorized holding'' for over 81,000 different kinds of ATGMs, which are critical to stem enemy armoured attacks, but does not have even half of that number in its inventory.
A part of the deficiency will be met by the induction of the long-delayed indigenous third-generation Nag ATGMs, which are vehicle and helicopter-mounted, with a 4-km strike range. The Army has already placed an initial order for 443 Nag missiles and 13 Namicas (Nag missile tracked carriers).
If Israel, the second-largest defence supplier to India after Russia, does indeed stitch up the ATGM project, it will be the third major missile programme between the two countries. They are already collaborating in two surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, under which deliveries are slated to begin soon.
While the DRDO-Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) project for long-range-SAM to arm Indian warships is worth Rs 2,606 crore, the medium-range-SAM one for IAF is worth Rs 10,076 crore.
