Netherlands advances amphibious All-Terrain Vehicles procurement for Dutch Marines


The Netherlands Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced its intention to proceed with the acquisition of new amphibious tracked All-Terrain
Vehicles (ATVs) for the Dutch Marines, as part of the Future Littoral All-Terrain Mobility Band Vagn (FLATM BV) program. This decision comes
after collaborative efforts with Sweden in a joint procurement initiative did not materialize, leading to delays in the FLATM BV program.

Selon le supplément du Journal officiel de l'Union européenne, les Pays-Bas ont officiellement attribué le marché pour la fourniture de 14 hélicoptères de transport tactique et logistique à Airbus Helicopters. Le Caracal (H225M) a gagné en finale contre le UH-60M Black Hawk du constructeur américain Sikorsky.

A quelques semaines du choix de la police allemande (Bundespolizei) pour une commande majeure (40 hélicoptères lourds), le contrat signé le 1er octobre par Airbus Helicopters aux Pays-Bas pour l'acquisition de 14 Caracal (H225M) dans le cadre d'une procédure négociée, selon le supplément du Journal officiel de l'Union européenne, montre à quel point cet appareil séduit certaines des forces armées les plus exigeantes dans le monde entier, comme Singapour, les Émirats Arabes Unis et la France. Les Pays-Bas sont le douzième client à l'export du Caracal en vue de remplacer des vieilles machines déjà fournies par Airbus Helicopters (Cougar).

IDV Delivers First Manticore 12kN Multirole Tactical Vehicle to Dutch Armed Forces


Italian Defense Company IDV (IVECO Defence Vehicles) officially delivered the first of 1,185 medium multirole protected vehicles called Manticore
to the Dutch Armed Forces on November 30, 2023, during the NEDS defense exhibition in Rotterdam in the presence of Vice Admiral Jan Willem
Hartman, Commander of the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT) and National Armaments Director of the Dutch Army.

First Apache Guardians to the Netherlands

On 7 December 2023, the first two Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters were delivered as airfreight to Woensdrecht air base by a USAF C-17A Globemaster II.

The new attack helicopters, serial numbers Q-37 (c/n NL007) and Q-38 (c/n NL008), have been off-loaded and will first go to the Logistics Center Woensdrecht (LCW) before being delivered to 301 Squadron at Gilze-Rijen air base. It is not yet known when the Apache Guardians will continue their journey, but this is believed to be somewhere in Q1-2024.

Currently a major renovation takes place at Gilze-Rijen where the simulator building will receive the new Apache Echo simulator. The simulator will be ready for use in mid-January 2024.

Upgrade programme Dutch NH90 helicopters

All nineteen NH90-NFH helicopters of the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) will receive a Mid-Life Update (MLU). This MLU programme will start in 2028 and will keep the helicopters operationally relevant for another fifteen years.

The MLU programme includes both hardware and software adjustments, including new communications equipment, an improved sonar system, the integration of a new torpedo (Mk54, which the Royal Netherlands Navy will also use), and improved Electronic Support Measures System (ESM), or electromagnetic surveillance and collection equipment. The current data link system Link 11 will be repaced by Link 22, which has many more options and is more secure. This system is necessary to share the large amounts of data that the NH90 collects with other flying and sailing units.

The programme consists of two parts. The first is the development and qualification of the MLU, for which the Netherlands supplies one NH90. When this process is completed, the second process takes place, a so-called retrofit for the remaining eighteen aircraft.

Unlike a number of other countries, the Netherlands continues to use the NH90. The helicopters are operated by 860 Squadron Arcens affligo as part of the Defence Helicopter Command (DHC) at Den helder/De Kooy.

306 Squadron Reapers to Romania

The Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) MQ-9A Unmanned Combat Aerial System (UCAS) that are
currently based at Hato airport (Curaçao) made their last operational flight in the Caribbean on 12 January 2024.

The aircraft will be made ready for transport to their new operating base in Romania where they will contribute to the
protection of the Netherlands and NATO partners.

Three 306 Squadron Reapers were delivered in February 2022 and were operated from the US FOL (Forward Operating
Location) at Hato. The location at Curaçao was specifically chosen for test and evaluation and the good weather conditions.

Their stay at Hato have been lenghtened twice for a period of six months. According to Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) the
unmanned aircraft stayed longer for training and supporting the Commander of the Caribbean Sea Force and the Caribbean
Coast Guard.

In August 2023, a fourth MQ-9A Reaper was delivered to Leeuwarden air base including two Ground Control Stations (GSC).
It has not been reported whether this aircraft will join the three that will go to an as-yet undisclosed location in Romania.

The US Army has delivered two AH-64E Apache V.6 Guardian attack helicopters to the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) as part of a larger

announced by the US Program Executive Office (PEO) on January 10, 2024.

Netherlands Navy likely to send frigate to Middle East to fight Houthis

Netherlands cleared to buy 386 AGM-114R2 Hellfire antitank missiles


The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency on February 2 announced that the State Department has made a determination approving a
possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the Netherlands of Hellfire Missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $150
million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this sale.

301 Squadron receives first Apache Guardian

On 14 March 2024, the first Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu, Royal Netherlands Air Force) AH-64E Apache Guardian was delivered to 301 Squadron Per Sapientam Efficiens et Immortalis at Gilze-Rijen air base.

The attack helicopter, bearing serial number Q-37 (c/n NL007), initially visited the low-flying area (Gebied Laag Vliegen) GLV-V at the Oirschotse Heide before landing at its new home base.

The Apache Guardian was delivered on 7 December 2023, to the Logistics Center Woensdrecht (LCW) as airfreight by a USAF C-17A Globemaster II. At the LCW, the new helicopters are assembled and undergo necessary maintenance. Following a process of system implementations and checks, a certificate of airworthiness is issued.

The Netherlands ordered a total of 28 AH-64E Apache Guardian version v6 attack helicopters to replace the AH-64DN Apache helicopters. The first six, with serials Q-31 to Q-36, were delivered to 302 Squadron at Robert Grey Army Airfield / Fort Cavazos (TX).

The final delivery of the new helicopters is scheduled for 2025.
