Boeing 787 Begins First Flight-Test Operations Outside of Washington
VICTORVILLE, Calif., March 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The second Boeing (NYSE: BA) 787 Dreamliner, ZA002, landed at 10:53 a.m. local time today in Victorville, Calif. This marks the beginning of the first flight-test operations outside of Washington state for the program. The airplane will be stationed at Victorville for approximately three weeks. The crew will conduct ground effects testing among other activities. During ground effects testing, the pilots fly the airplane very close to the runway to gather data regarding the aerodynamic effects and performance of the airplane during the takeoff and landing phases of flight. Quantifying this performance is part of the certification requirements for all new airplanes. “Victorville’s airfield is the former George Air Force Base,” said Randy Neville, chief pilot for ZA002. “There is ample ramp space for parking and plenty of on-site facilities. There is a long runway and plenty of level, clear land along the approach to the runway. We can operate there without disrupting air traffic control or other commercial aircraft.” A crew of more than 150 employees will be stationed at Victorville while the airplane is there. Boeing Completes First 787 Dreamliner Maintenance Training Class
EVERETT, Wash., April 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Boeing (NYSE: BA) today announced that it has completed the first maintenance training class for the 787 Dreamliner. The class consisted of 10 mechanics from 787 launch customer ANA (All Nippon Airways) and two regulators from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB). The mechanics, who completed the training last week, are the first of 150 ANA mechanics to be trained by Boeing over the next seven months. They spent more than 30 days learning how to maintain the world’s most advanced commercial jetliner, including 20 days of theoretical training, two days of engine runs and taxi testing, five days of practical training and five days of troubleshooting exercises. To conclude the training, students conducted component identification exams on production airplanes, as well as troubleshooting exams in the full flight simulator. To support the all-new 787, Boeing Training & Flight Services, a division of Commercial Aviation Services, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, has developed an all-digital, Internet-based teaching system for maintenance training, along with training tools that connect real-time to a virtual airplane and airplane systems. “Getting our mechanics trained and prepared is essential to being ready to take delivery of the airplane later this year,” said Michihide Kono, vice president of Engineering and Maintenance for ANA. “This is an important milestone for our ANA team and we are delighted to see the continued progress on the program.” The curriculum is designed to focus on performance-based training that incorporates real-world simulated maintenance scenarios for a more immersive training experience. “The use of personal tablet computers, interactive computer-based training, three-dimensional images and desktop simulation makes it possible to deliver training more efficiently,” said Sherry Carbary, vice president of Boeing Training & Flight Services, Commercial Aviation Services, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Our team is committed to providing our customers with the resources and tools they need to be successful.” The 787 comes with digital tools and databases that replace volumes of printed materials. - An engineless ZA005 rolled out of Paint Hangar 45-03 yesterday afternoon in Everett, WA sporting a fresh livery. This particular 787 will be the first powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines. When it went to the paintshop on July 9th, the aircraft had a rudder formerly painted in the colors of Royal Air Maroc, the original customer for the fifth and sixth flight test aircraft. The paint scheme of ZA005, now registered N787FT, is a simplified version of the Dreamliner scheme's wave and a blue tail similar to that of ZA006. Sources say the aircraft is expected to return to the factory shortly at position three inside Building 40-26.

A special hangar at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base allows the airplane to experience heat as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 Celsius) and as low as minus 45 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 43 Celsius). After the airplane is stabilized at either the hot or cold temperatures, flight test technicians will follow the Airplane Maintenance Manual to perform the steps required to prepare the airplane for flight release and operate under these conditions. Sensors and monitors will allow the test team to determine if all systems hardware and software operate as expected. Cold-weather testing is being conducted first, with preliminary hot-weather testing to follow. Additional extreme-weather testing will be conducted later in the flight test program. EVERETT, Wash., July 1 — Boeing today announced the completion of firm configuration for the 787-9 Dreamliner. Boeing reached this milestone after years of collaboration with airline customers and partners to determine the optimal configuration for the new stretch version of the Dreamliner. “Firm configuration means the airplane’s structural, propulsion and systems architectures are defined and not changing,” said Mark Jenks, vice president of 787-9 development, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Boeing has completed the trade studies required to finalize the airplane’s overall capability and basic design, allowing the airplane manufacturer and its suppliers to begin detailed design of parts, assemblies and other systems for the 787-9. As detailed designs are completed and released, production can begin. The first 787-9 delivery is scheduled for late 2013. “We have a disciplined process in place to ensure we have completed all of the requirements for the development stage of the program,” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “The team has done a fantastic job to get us through this important milestone.” The 787-9 is the second member of the 787 family. A slightly bigger version of the 787-8, the airplane will seat 250-290 passengers, 16 percent more than the 787-8. The 787-9 will have a range of 8,000 to 8,500 nautical miles (14,800 to 15,750 km). “We have been working closely with our customers for years to reach this milestone,” said Mark Jenks, vice president of 787-9 development. “We are excited about the performance and capability this airplane will offer our customers.” The 787 Dreamliner is an all-new twinjet designed to meet the needs of airlines around the world in providing nonstop service between midsize cities with new levels of efficiency. Article publié le 25 décembre 2010 par David Barrie Après l'incendie d'origine électrique qui avait cloué au sol les 787, une modification temporaire a été installée pour permettre à la flotte de Dreamliner de reprendre l'air.
Le Boeing 787-8 au roulage à Farnborough
Depuis le début de feu d'origine électrique découvert sur un appareil de test en approche à Laredo au texas au début du mois de novembre, aucun Boeing 787-8 n'avait revolé, jusqu'à ce que la raison de l'incendie ait été trouvée. Boeing annonce donc que les essais en vol ont repris sur le Dreamliner. Une solution provisoire a été mise en place pour démontrer que l'avion peut voler. Une nouvelle version du logiciel de distibution de l'électricité a été installé et les équipes ont conduit une batterie de tests pour s'assurer de la validité de la modification. La vérification, qui comprend des essais en laboratoire des composants, des essais sur l'intégration avec les autres systèmes ou des tests sur le simulateur de vol et sur l'avion réel au sol, s'est terminée en début de semaine sous l'égide d'Hamilton Sundstrand, le fournisseur de l'équipement (une filiale d'United Technologies). Boeing précise enfin que, même si ses Dreamliner ont été cloués au sol pendant plus d'un mois, la campagne de certification ne s'est pas arrêtée, et les essais au sol ont pu continuer. Cet événement aura un impact sur les avions à livrer aux clients et Boeing prévoit d'annoncer un nouveau programme de livraison au mois de janvier 2011. Lors du salon de Farnborough, les responsables de Boeing juraient que la première livraison interviendrait dans les tous premiers jours de 2011 avant de se rétracter quelques semaines plus tard.
