China launches fourth and final Type C13B corvette for Bangladesh Navy

China’s Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group has launched the fourth and final Shadhinota-class (Type C13B) corvette on order for the Bangladesh Navy (BN), according to a news report published on the cjdby.net website.
The launch ceremony for the 90 m-long warship, which has been named Prottasha (with pennant number F114), was held at the company’s shipyard in Wuhan on 8 April: about two months after third-of-class Shongram was launched at the same location.
The vessels follow BNS Shadhinota (F111) and BNS Prottoy (F112), both of which were launched in Wuhan in late 2014 and were commissioned into the BN in March 2016, according to Jane’s Fighting Ships.
However, images show that, unlike the first two ships of the class, the latest two appear to be equipped with a more advanced phased-array radar, which, according to the website sina.com, could be the SR2410C 3-D multifunctional radar, although no official confirmation has emerged.
The Type C13B corvettes, the design of which is based on China’s Type 056 corvettes, have a beam of 11 m, a draught of 4.4 m and a full-load displacement of 1,330 tonnes. Top speed is approximately 25 kt. Each of the ships has a complement of 78, including 60 crew and 18 officers.
The Type C13B class is fitted with a 76 mm H/PJ-26 main gun, two 30 mm H/PJ-17-1 close-in weapon systems, a FL-3000N eight-cell launcher for surface-to-air missiles, four C-802 surface-to-surface missiles, and a helipad.
While the combat systems of the Type C13B are broadly similar to those of the Type 056, the BN ships lack a sonar system and anti-submarine weapons.

The sale of two UK-surplus Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules transport aircraft to Bangladesh has been confirmed by a support contract announced by Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group on 10 May.
While a government-to-government agreement on the sale of two of the Royal Air Force’s 10 short-bodied C-130Js to Bangladesh had previously been disclosed, the awarding of a multi-year support contract to Marshalls confirms that the deal has now been signed.
“The acquisition of C-130J aircraft from the Royal Air Force provides a key enhancement to our current airlift capability,” a Bangladeshi Air Force representative was quoted as saying during the signing ceremony that was held on the same day as the announcement at the service’s headquarters in Dhaka.
As well as performing in-country support of the aircraft, Marshalls will also be modifying the aircraft, including designing, developing, and installing a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) capability, to enable the Bangladeshi Air Force to carry out tasks within the country and overseas in support of UN missions.
The acquisition of the C-130Js will enable the Bangladeshi Air Force to retire the four C-130Bs that it has fielded since 2001 (these were acquired secondhand from the United States), at the same time as augmenting its three Antonov An-32 ‘Cline’ and three L-410UVP-200 transport aircraft that date from 1989 and 2015 respectively.

The Bangladesh Navy (BN) has received the two Shadhinota (Type C13B)-class corvettes it ordered from China in late 2015, according to a statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Bangladeshi military.
The two new 90-m long ships, which have been named Sangram (with pennant number F 113) and Prottasha (F 113), were handed over to the service on 28 March and arrived at the naval base in Chittagong on 27 April, said ISPR.
The ships, which are expected to enter service in the near future, are the third and fourth of the class. Both ships were built in Wuhan by China's Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, with Sangram being launched in February 2018 and Prottasha two months later.
These vessels follow BNS Shadhinota (F111) and BNS Prottoy (F112), both of which were launched in Wuhan in late 2014 and entered service in March 2016, according to Jane's Fighting Ships .

Although the combat systems of the Type C13B are broadly similar to those of the Type 056, the BN ships lack a sonar system and anti-submarine weapons.

Bangladesh to receive additional surplus UK C-130J airlifters

Bangladesh is to receive additional short-bodied C-130Js that the UK is divesting itself of, with an undisclosed number adding to the two confirmed in 2018.. Source: IHS Markit/Patrick Allen
The sale of additional UK-surplus Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules transport aircraft to Bangladesh has been confirmed by a support contract announced by Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group (ADG) on 20 June.
The Asian nation is to receive an undisclosed number of aircraft to add to the two already confirmed via a previous support contract for Marshall ADG. With the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) looking to divest itself of nine 'short-bodied' C-130Js (designated C5 in UK service), all but four aircraft have already been earmarked for customers.
"Marshall ADG has signed a new multi-million-pound contract with the Bangladesh Air Force to support additional C-130J aircraft purchased from the UK Ministry of Defence [MoD]", a company statement said, adding, "This new multi-year contract follows on from the contract signed in May 2018, and will see Marshall provide total support to the entire Bangladesh Air Force C-130J fleet".
The Bangladesh Air Force has previously noted that the acquisition of C-130J aircraft from the RAF provides a key enhancement to its current airlift capability. As well as performing in-country support of the aircraft, Marshalls will also be modifying the aircraft, including designing, developing, and installing a medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) capability, to enable the Bangladeshi Air Force to carry out tasks within the country and overseas in support of UN missions.
The acquisition of the C-130Js will enable the Bangladeshi Air Force to retire the four C-130Bs that it has fielded since 2001 (these were acquired secondhand from the United States), at the same time as augmenting its three Antonov An-32 'Cline' and three L-410UVP-200 transport aircraft that date from 1989 and 2015 respectively.

On 18 August 2019, a Bangladesh Biman Bahini (Bangladesh Air Force) 15 Squadron K-8W Karakorum jet training aircraft, serial 14322, had to abort take-off from its homebase Matiur Rahman AB (Jessore).
The aircraft took off from Matiur Rahman AB at around 13:00 hrs local time and just after getting airborne, at about 15-20ft it suffered an engine failure and the pilots had to make emergency landing over the runway. The aircraft skidded off the runway, went over the grass and collided with the runway barrier. Both pilots, Squadron Leader Muzahid and Flying Officer Shahriar, are safe. The aircraft seems to be a write-off.

On Friday 23 August 2019, the first Bangladesh Biman Bahini (Bangladesh Air Force) C-130J started its delivery flight to Dhaka. The C-130J, serial 99-5479/S3-AGE (ex RAF ZH881) officially rolled out at Marshalls of Cambridge (UK) on 22 July 2019.
The second C-130J, serial 99-5482/S3-AGF (ex RAF ZH884) was first noted outside at Cambridge on 15 August 2019. The delivery flight of this Hercules most probably will be around half September 2019. In total five former Royal Air Force Hercules C5 transport aircraft have been sold to Bangladesh. Marshalls has won the contract to overhaul the former RAF Hercules C5s that are involved. They will support the Hercules fleet of Bangladesh with spare parts and maintenance ensuring continuity in their operation.
Trailspotter made a nice video of the final departure of C-130J 99-5479/S3-AGE on Friday 23 August 2019. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=lGoPeg0U6_M&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR2WPH5p-LORl5CgO0JM0g4EAhbjWyLSayX8xjGfz3FNy4Kbye6Kt6FkmyA

North Sea Boats Completed Delivery of X-12 Fast Patrol Boat to Bangladesh Navy
11 September 2019
In 2014 North Sea Boats (PT Lundin Industry) receives order from Bangladesh to build 18 X-12 fast patrol boat (all photos : North Sea Boats)
North Sea Boats 16 boat ToT contract with Bangladesh Navy Shipyard completed with successful sea trials and commissioning this week.
The X12 is an 11.7 m long craft designed for patrol and interception roles in tropical areas. It is configured with an enclosed cabin to seat 3 crew members and 8 troops, and is equipped with a fully integrated navigation, radar and communication package, and a head (toilet).
There is an elevated 12.7 mm gun mount strategically positioned on the cabin top, with two additional gun mounts on the aft deck. The engine hatches and wide side decks enhance safety and ease of movement around the craft, especially during boarding operations. And the aft transom platform protects the propulsion system, and can also be used for diving operations or re- covering persons from the water.
The modern V hull combines deadrise angles forward for cutting into head seas, and a keel plank aft to improve acceleration, speed and stability. And the heavy duty tendering provides protection when coming alongside other vessels. The boat can operate in offshore and shallow waters, and if needed, make beach landings.

First follow-on K-8W Karakorum finished for Bangladesh!
The first K-8W of a follow-on batch for Bangladesh is finished as is seen on this publicity shot taken at Hongdu Aircraft Corporation. It seems to show a K-8W with serial 19329.
Bangladesh signed a government-to-government deal with China in 2018 to acquire an undisclosed number of additional K-8s.
So far, the Bangladesh Air Force (Bangladesh Biman Bahini) obtained nine K-8Ws from 2014 onward, serialled 14320 to 14328. BAF voiced a requirement for 23 additional ones, but we do not know if that will actually come to fruition.
Our friends of Bangladesh Aviation Hub published exclusive photographs made today (4 December 2019) by Hasibul Hossain of two of the four DA40s delivered to the Bangladesh Army Aviation Group; S3-BRD (named after river Dhaleswari) and S3-BRG (named after river Gomati).
Both aircraft were seen landing at Dhaka. Six days ago, on 28 November 2019, Bangladesh Defence & Security Analysis published a short video witnessing a take-off to illustrate that the first batch was delivered.
